Being on time is important throughout life, which is why schools often have serious punishments for being tardy.

Bit of background here.

I went to a religious boarding school for high school and one of the things we had to do was go to prayers every day on time.

I wont explain in full the consequences of tardiness or absence (there was a whole point system etc,) but if you did it enough you got in-school-suspension for a day.

That would be annoying.

Basically you had to sit in a classroom from 9-7, minus lunch and afternoon prayers, and you couldn’t leave.

They gave you one assignment(an essay on why you were tardy/absent so much) but anything else to keep yourself not insane was your responsibility (no music or phones were allowed either).

So, eventually this happened to me and I was taken to the classroom after breakfast, given my assignment and that was it.

The assignment took me maybe 2 hours to do so now i have another 7-ish hours to… learn my lesson?

Keeping busy makes the time go by.

Well anything to keep myself not bored, i.e schoolwork, books, works.

Since I didnt care about falling behind in the morning classes, I read a book, and in the afternoon, I reviewed for a math test, finished all my math homework, wrote an essay, and read another book.

By that time my suspension was over, so for following the rules, I had a pretty functional day with no class.

Honestly, it sounds like they put the time to good use, which is exactly what I’m sure the teachers want to happen.

Day two of the job. Didn’t ask me. Just added me to the store whatsapp group and told me “this is how we communicate.”

Cool, so now every single person at this store has my personal phone number whether I wanted that or not.

Seriously, everyone.

The coworker who makes everyone uncomfortable? Has my number now.

The guy who got fired for stealing last month? Still had my number for weeks before anyone removed him.

My manager who doesn’t understand boundaries? Texts me on my days off because why not, the number’s right there.

It just feels poorly planned.

And the group itself is pure chaos.

Blurry schedule screenshots, memes, shift swap requests, someone’s kid’s fundraiser link, and oh look there’s an actual important policy change buried 50 messages deep that I missed and somehow that’s my fault.

Everything exists in one endless scroll with zero distinction between “read this now” and “lol check out this tiktok.”

The manager doesn’t care.

I told my manager the privacy thing bothered me.

Got hit with “it’s just a phone number.”

Right.

MY phone number that I can never take back from two dozen strangers and that follows me long after I leave this job.

He feels that this is blurring the lines.

Zero separation between my personal life and a job that pays me $14 an hour.

Previous job didn’t share my number with a single coworker. Work stuff stayed in the work breakroom app.

When I quit, they just removed me, no lingering group chats, no weird texts from ex coworkers months later.

That’s how it should work.

Your employer making you use whatsapp for work communication is them telling you they don’t care about the line between your job and your life.

Purpose built employee messaging apps exist.

There’s no excuse anymore.

AITA for getting annoyed after I kept failing to wake up my sister for her work?

I have been waking my sister for months for her work since she does not wake up to her alarm.

(She closes the alarm and sleeps back after).

I offered to wake her up for her work, so I kept calling her at least three times every day to make sure she was woken up enough to go and prepare for work.

Lately I started to feel very annoyed as she was not waking up and closing her phone’s voice off when I called, leading me to call her repeatedly 3-5 times, enough for her to wake up.

But her sister was offended.

After seeing my annoyed expression, she became very hurt, saying that I said I’d to that, and if I said this before she would not have relied on me.

The case is I am used to waking her up for work but after she ignores my calling to sleep more, I am getting angry at it.

She says she does not remember doing that, today especially she said her phone was out of her reach, but I can hear my phone call voice shutting down after seconds.

Making me the liar in the situation as she says that, which hurts my feelings.

They can’t even agree to disagree.

I understand she is working in a long taxing work, she says that she can’t even feel her body and can’t keep up with everything.

When she says it like that I feel bad (I am a student and I generally spend my time in the home and I am a morning person).

So I usually would be awake those times, I still set alarms for myself to wake her up. It feels like at least I can do that.

But I can’t help but feel mentally tired after the argument especially.

It just didn’t work.

After the little argument I said that I will not wake her up as she should get up with alarms, as it would be the best decision for us.

I feel hurt in general, like it was my fault for offering her that, but I did not expect to keep calling her to wake her up.

“I (24F) live in an apartment building that has a mix of families and grad students.

My apartment is right by the door to the parking garage so I’m used to a lot of noise. However recently a young boy has been practicing kicking his soccer ball into the wall next to my apartment door (it shares the wall of my bathroom).

When he first started I could hear the shelves of my bathroom shaking and it scared the hell out of my cat (not to mention making me jump every time cause I have PTSD).

These kids play out in the hallway daily and most of the time it’s totally harmless. Last year the same boy and his sister were playing ding dong ditch on our floor but just knocking really loudly.

And it’s getting out of hand.

At first I got up to check, but could hear there giggles as they fled. I chocked it up to harmless fun at first cause they’re kids! But then they came back like five minutes later and tried to open my door.

It was unlocked at the time because I was getting ready to leave so they started to open it but then freaked out and ran away.

She finally had enough.

That was sort of my breaking point where I then went to where they live and told their parents that they were running around knocking on doors and trying to open them.

The mom freaked out and said something along the lines of not again! So obviously they’ve done something similar in the past.

But anyway I didn’t want to say anything about the soccer at first to the kid because I felt bad. my whole family told me I should but I didn’t want to be a cranky Karen.

But today he did the same thing and I realized I do need to say something because something could fall off the shelf in my bathroom, it’s so loud, it scares my cat and me.

I opened my door and he started to back up and I just asked him if he could stop kicking his ball into the wall.

He nodded and ran away but now I just feel bad because he is just a kid living in an apartment building without a lot of greenery or a playground nearby.

That’s exactly what colleagues in an auto parts store found out in this story.

But the main villain here isn’t even the active shooter.

Can I work around the body?

I was the general manager at a Big Red Corporate Hell Auto Parts store, and a few years ago this event took place.

It was a Friday morning around 0700, and I had just made it to the store to open. In the main office I noticed a note about a very annoyed customer that came in for parts the night before, but they had been shipped to another store.

Not our fault, this happens all the time. Usually we just give them a 20% discount on the transaction and they go on their merry way.

But this guy apparently threatened to do harm to multiple employees – why someone didn’t call me the night it happened I’m not sure. They had filed a police report and taken all the info.

Regardless of the threat, the manager never imagined what would happen next.

I heard someone knock on the door – keep in mind there was me and one other employee in the store at that time.

I figured it was the new guy coming in for training, so I sent other guy to go get him. But this was where all hell broke loose.

Let me stop and say first that I was an Army Ranger, Scout Sniper, and I have been shot at, hit with a Humvee and almost blown up by an IED. None of that helped with this situation.

Cue the other guy running in the the office and slamming the door, shouting, “He’s got a gun!”

The manager was understandably confused.

I said, “What? Who?” and my colleague replied, “The guy from last night.”

So I immediately started calling the cops. As I was hitting the last 1, I started hearing shots ringing through the store.

I kept dialling and explained the situation, knowing that two layers of drywall weren’t going to stop a round from tearing me a new hole. I told my staff member to stand directly behind the office door, since it is a solid steel door.

This entire time the guy was still firing, I could tell that he had reloaded at least once. He was yelling something incoherent, I just sat there and waited for the moment when he started shooting the office. I’m not sure how long had passed – for all I know it could have been minutes.

Yikes. Let’s find out what happened next.

What happened next astonished me and changed my life.

I heard sirens finally and more people yelling, then massive amounts of gunfire, had to be at least three different pistols, then I heard a cop saying, “This is the police, if there is anyone else in here announce yourselves and come out slowly.”

Myself and my staff member walked out, and they took us into cuffs and put us in the back of the car while they clear the store.

As we were walking out, I saw that the entire store was a mess of bullet holes, there was oil all over the place, in general IT WAS DESTROYED.

They ask us what happened, got statements, and I told them I need to call our District Leader and Corporate about this.

This is where I decided that I would never work for this hell hole again, along with the other employee that was there.

I called the corporate office and told them what had happened, and filed a load of paperwork. By this time it was roughly 0930-0945.

They then asked me if we could work around the mess.

The manager couldn’t believe the nerve of corporate.

I responded, “Are you kidding me? I just told you the cops shot, and killed a person in my store…” to which corporate replied, “Yes, can you work around it?”

I was angry beyond belief at this point, and said, “Seriously, you want me to work around the body and pool of blood and oil that has massed around the dead guy in my store?”

Corporate replied, “So I’ll take that as a no?”

I don’t think I’ve ever yelled at someone so much. One of the cops actually had to take the phone from me and make me go smoke. In the end me and my colleague got two weeks paid off, a trip to the police station, court, and one hell of a story to tell our kids.

Stories like this really do show that in big companies, individuals don’t matter at all to those at the top.

No concern, no offer of support for staffing or cleanup – the only thing they cared about was keeping the store open so they could make money.

It’s no wonder he wanted to quit.

I think maybe his giggle was more of a polite “Okay, well done, you got me haha I’m just trying to get home after a God-awful day at work more fool me for leaving my Spotify on public and trusting somebody not to invade my one moment of privacy all day ” sort of giggle.

Now we’re crawling along at 2 miles an hour next to each other and no longer making eye contact.

It’s a bit awkward.

The last time I worked with him, he came up to me 4 times, despite us rarely talking before.

First he asked if I was ok because he “figured he should”. Then, he asked if I was getting married (knowing i was) and asked if I was sure when I said yes. He then said that he liked me a lot and later said he loved me and cared about me a lot.

This is weird…

I replied that he didn’t, he doesn’t know me, and I’m engaged. He said that hurt and I apologized before he walked away. The third time he came up to me he was following me around when I was looking for my friend to tell him the drama.

He told us to have fun but not too much fun and walked away.

Give it a rest, dude!

The last time he came up to me he asked if I was sure, when I said yes he told me not to grow up too fast because I’m getting married so young, which I understand but I don’t need advice from him.

He saw me telling my friends about the situation and probably laughing. He called in sick the next day.

I’m wondering if I should report this to my boss because it does make me uncomfortable and it is unwanted. He is also clearly persistent.

A rare retail cashier moment

As I’m ringing out this lady, I compliment a scarf she’s buying two of, and she hands me one and tells me to buy it for myself because she doesn’t need two.

And I said, “Oh, I can’t, my husband wouldn’t like me buying more clothes.”

She said, “It’s only 12.99, you should treat yourself to something, promise me you’ll buy it after work.”

Then, the woman totally surprised her.

I said, “Okay,” and put it aside, knowing I wasn’t going to really buy it.

Then she asked me to ring up both scarves because she thinks she saw another one back there that she will buy.

I insist we can just do a separate transaction, but she says no, no. Also, I need 6 gift receipts.

When I hand her the receipts, she picks the scarf up and hands it to me with a gift receipt and says, “This one is for you, God bless you.”

Wow! That was such a sweet thing to do.

Fancy wedding went slightly wrong in a lot of ways

A number of years ago, my husband and I were invited to a black tie wedding in the Hamptons (Long Island, NY). Which is all well and good if that’s your thing and at least it wasn’t in the height of summer and the insane prices – it was in November.

The invitation was incredibly ornate and the heaviest paper/cardstocks I think I’ve ever seen.

They hired a wedding planner and very obviously poured a ton of money into it.

They were both working at high level, high paying jobs at investment banks in NYC before the ’08 crash and enjoyed spending that money.

But things didn’t go as perfectly as they wanted.

There’s a laundry list of how spending money doesn’t mean you get it right –

1 – The recommended/reserved accommodations started at $600 per night and were near the church, which was a good 45 minute drive from the reception – shuttle buses were included at least.

We stayed at a nice and comfortable but not fancy motel that was right next to the reception location.

2 – The reception started 2 hours after the ceremony to allow time for transportation and photos so people were hanging out in November waiting for the shuttle buses and then being driven around in circles to kill time.

It wasn’t the most comfortable situation.

3 – The reception was in a barn – it really was lovely. However, there wasn’t enough room inside for the cocktail reception and dinner so the cocktail hour was outside under a tent. On grass. With no additional flooring.

All of the women were sitting because otherwise our heels would sink into the grass, it was a pretty ridiculous scene.

4 – We move inside for the dinner and the lighting was almost all candlelight.

Beautiful, until you realized that the light was insufficient for the incredibly ornate script on the place cards – they would have been challenging enough with more light.

With no seating chart, people were wandering around squinting for a while.

The food wasn’t ideal either.

5 – The first course was a shrimp bisque with two whole shrimp on top. Still in the shells with the heads. Not ideal for a black-tie dinner.

6 – My husband was a vegetarian at the time and his main course was a stuffed pepper. Looked great. It was actually stuffed with wildly undercooked quinoa.

There was drama.

7 – The table decor consisted of beautiful tall silver candelabra with 8 arms and black tapers, with moss at the base of each candle.

Interspersed with these were very tall vases with extremely long silver-painted branches, from which were suspended tea lights in a variety of small black holders, the whole thing probably 10 feet above the ground.

As the evening wore on, the heat from the tea lights melted the fishing line holding them, so the tealights and holders would crash down onto the tables and onto people’s plates.

Several of the tapers from the candelabra melted down enough that the moss caught on fire – there were at least 2 that were carried out by staff as they blazed away.

And awkward situations occurred.

8 – The maid of honor was drunk when it came time to give her speech and she shared the story of how the bride and groom met.

Turns out it was a drunken hookup when they were both seriously dating other people, not a great story for family members to hear….

It was kind of sad that they spent many thousands of dollars and it was just not a particularly enjoyable evening.

And they did divorce not many years later. At least it was a memorable evening!

If there’s one thing that students are notorious for, it’s their parties.

It’s just a load of young people having fun together of course, but sometimes this can cause a disturbance to neighbors.

Once in a while is fine, but if this disturbance becomes routine it can be quite upsetting – and even cause more serious problems.

The student in this story is aware of this, and tried her best to mitigate the noise during a recent party at their place.

But her roommate’s boyfriend seemed determined to make as much noise as possible – and for her, it was the final straw.

I have two female roommates and they both have boyfriends (as do I) who stay round often. We are all music students with personal equipment.

I don’t have a problem with one of the boyfriends, but the another one is literally one of the biggest ****** I know, ESPECIALLY regarding music tech and equipment.

It’s like he has some superiority complex or something.

Unfortunately, this guy (we’ll call him T) stays round A LOT.

Let’s see how the drama truly got started.

Recently we were hosting a party for our friend’s birthday, and we were using our TV to play music. My two other roommates have speakers, so if we wanted more volume, this wouldn’t have been an issue.

However, without permission from my other roommate and me, suddenly T was outside our flat with a massive speaker (like actually, one you’d see in a venue for agig).

We were all drinking, so at the time I didn’t care much – but then it started to play.

I was like, “this is way too loud for a flat party” because I know there are families living in our complex.

And things just got worse from there.

We did proceed to get a few noise complaints (this went on until 1am) and I kept turning it down just for it to be turned back up by T every time.

This is despite the fact that everyone knew about the complaints, and HE DOESN’T EVEN LIVE HERE!!

Now the speaker is just sitting in my living room, taking up space and reminding me of how annoyed I am at him for disturbing my neighbours.

I don’t know if I should ban the speaker from my house or not, would that be overreacting?

It’s clear that T has no regard for anyone or anything except for his own ego.

To keep turning the music back up, even when other people were getting upset, shows what a thoughtless guy he really is.

His speaker should be back home with him, not in their living room as some sort of weird trophy.

Over this time we have come to the agreement that I cook dinner and she puts away the leftovers/ does most of the dishes. I also do all of the grocery shopping. It just makes more since as I’m the one cooking and I get off work a couple hours before her.

His wife is pretty particular…

My wife is very particular and will complain about the brand of every single item I purchase if it’s not her specific favorite. Most of the times I just buy according to her preference.

The one exception is Andouille sausage.

Our local grocery has pre cut sausage that is also slightly cheaper than the brand she prefers. Every Monday I make on of her favorite meals consisting of sausage, potatoes, and veggies in a sauce.

He can’t win!

Once everything is mixed in the sauce she can’t tell the difference and won’t say anything but anytime she gets home before I’m done and sees the packaging she will complain.

I’ve explained that I also work 10 hour days and appreciate saving 10 minutes of prep time by getting pre cut sausage. She is absolutely not having it and is getting upset.

When I pointed out that she can’t even tell the difference she states that she always can but just doesn’t always say something.

An American mom named Clara who lives in Bologna, Italy with her family, which includes two small kids, talked to TikTok viewers about how Italian school lunches for kids compare to the ones she was used to in the United States.

So I was on express register 1, way at the end of the store, while every other coworker was on the other side.

I’m more casual here since I’m not as supervised, but also because I don’t want to outwardly express my overall disdain for express.

I’m not usually quick-witted, so I felt proud of this joke.

A nice old lady comes up to my register, buying a single small item. When anyone buys just one thing, I always ask if they want a bag.

It all started with a little lighthearted banter.

Me: Did you want a bag for this?

Lady: (joking) No thanks, as long as you guys won’t stop me in the parking lot!

Me: (joking back) You have the receipt, so they won’t tackle you on the way out.

Even the lady in line thought it was funny.
