Imagine working at a fast food restaurant. You have a great manager, learn the company rules, and you’re great at your job.

What would you do if you transferred to a different location at the same fast food restaurant, but the manager didn’t seem to like you? Would you keep doing an awesome job and do everything right, or would you trust her and do things her way?

In this story, one employee is in this situation and insists on following the rules. That really backfires for the manager because it turns out she’s being pretty sneaky when nobody’s looking.

I’m so sorry I got in the way of you embezzling the McMoney ;(

I worked at two McRestaurants. I’m not going to reveal which McRestaurants these may be, but you may work it out.

The first was in my hometown before uni for 6 months. The second was in my uni’s town for 18 months. The two McRestaurants had differing IT systems (one had an online system, the other just had paper) and so I couldn’t simply be transferred.

I had to resign from one, get fast tracked through application at the other, and the people who McTrained me had an easy few shifts.

It sounds like things were going well at the first McRestaurant.

Lead up to being told what to comply to:

Now, the first McRestaurant was very strict, but a bit too easygoing. I had good customer service so was put on the tills every shift; I could combat every Karen with enough sarcasm and fake boomer humour to make them like me.

When working on tills, the managers gave the till users their swipe cards so we could issue refunds quicker or delete an incorrect item on the order when a customer changes their minds ten times.

All is good. Each shift I walk in, count the McMoney, do my job, cash the McMoney, go home. I was almost always perfect to the penny.

The manager actually sounds pretty helpful.

Until one shift, I notice a coworker using my till during my break. When I cash the McMoney that shift, I’m down by like a fiver and a few pence, and I’m given a Cash Retrainer (disciplinary and basically a pop quiz about cash handling)

After doing so, I mention the other coworker to a manager and he tells me it’s my fault for not constantly supervising my till and for not ‘locking my till’ during my break which I didn’t know I could do. He happily shows me.

Cool and good. He’s nice and even shows me the legal writing that says I cannot leave the till – from counting to cashing – unless the till is locked… i can comply with that

Now, onto the other McRestaurant.

The night I am finally forced to use this knowledge;

A year later. New store, new managers, same legal stuff. I offer to take a coworker’s shift so I can afford to eat next week, and end up on a shift with a manager who has never asked me to go on till before… which is weird. I’m great with customers and despise cooking McFood.

This time though, she was expecting the other worker but had already gotten the McMoney ready. I take it from her, count it, sign it off, and do my job.

I start learning that she is working everyone HARD while she picks her nails and checks her phone. After a while she notices that we haven’t had any orders for a little while and that I’m just stood watching her procrastinate.

OP wasn’t sure exactly what the manager wanted him to do.

“Stop standing around and DO YOUR JOB”

“Err… i am? We have no customers so I can’t serve anyone”

She tells me to get stock for the kitchen.

“What? I thought you wanted me to do my job?”

“Yes. Do your job.”

“By the book McManager?”

“Yes”

The employee knew what to say.

“Okay. No problem. I will stay by this till like it says in the book” (duh)

I continue to stand there and she gets irate.

“Look, McManager, the only way I will leave this till is to go on my break”

She rolls her eyes and leaves me alone. Yay! About an hour getting paid to chat with the customers and coworkers who are nearby the till!

Here’s what happened when OP went on break.

Eventually, I’m asked to go on my break so I lock the till as per usual and do so.

A coworker of mine (someone who used a flexible till next to mine while I was on break – a flexible till is signed off by a manager) said that while I was on my break she came to the till, got angry tapping the screen for it to do nothing, and stormed off.

When I came back from my break, I asked for her manager card.

“NO. It’s for managers only, and YOU’RE just a till boy today”

“Wow okay, is this an extended break?”

“What?! NO go do your job”

OP explained.

“I’ll be able to if you give me the manager card so I can unlock your till and DO my job? To be honest you can supervise since it’s your card”

Again, she rolls her eyes, goes to the till with me, holds out her manager card, and I have to swipe it while she was STILL holding it because she wouldn’t let go. The screen becomes responsive again and I unlock it.

She seems to avoid me for the rest of the shift, while I just chill since it wasn’t too busy. I have time for a proper laugh with some customers and I even have a drunken friend come in for a milkshake. She and I chat for a while and talk about the weird McManager.

End of my shift, the McManager is suddenly very nice and sweet, offers to take my McMoney and count it up for me and I can go home early!!

OP insisted on counting it himself.

Haha… no. I’m paid to the minute and want to cover my own butt, so I count it myself. Not quite perfect. 3 pence over, I probably just didn’t give a few people their penny change when they walked away. But for a cash retrainer it has to be +/- £1. I’m chill.

It was satisfying to irritate her so much while I took the role of procrastinating away from her for that shift. I was grinning on my way home that I had done everything as I should’ve and put a manager in her place. I even got a drunk friend buddy to walk home with!

Turns out there was more to it…

There’s a lot to unpack here.

That was the most profitable Thursday evening in MONTHS.

That evening was HUNDREDS of quid more profitable.. a lil investigation had been carried out because of this.

Then they noticed it was the first Thursday evening in months to not have a perfect to the penny cash amount.

Then they noticed that it was me who signed it off, not the normal person.

The manager got in big trouble.

Then they noticed that the signature of the other person didn’t match with her signature on other shifts.

Far too much for it to be a coincidence.

CCTV showed McManager to be taking the till’s McMoney into the office on the usual worker’s break every shift. I got in the way of it this time for just doing as told and doing my job by the book.

Fired of course, fined of course, think she spent a small amount of time in prison but now I see her cleaning the floor in the colonel’s chicken restaurant across the street.

Also, I probably would have trusted her to look after the till while I got stock if she hadn’t been so rude XD

Now it makes sense why the manager didn’t want OP dealing with the cash. He was too good at his job, and she was doing something illegal.

A woman who enjoys riding her bike had a run-in with a garbage truck driver after he nearly ran her over and she talked about how she got some petty revenge on this reckless fella.

“I like cycling, it gives me a sense of peace.

I’m not in a club, I just ride about on my own.

On the day in question, I was pedaling along a single carriageway road that narrowed slightly as it crossed a bridge. I was positioned as close to the curb as I could be without clattering my pedal and fetching myself off.

As I approached the narrow bit, I was overtaken by a massive garbage truck. All well and good – but he swerved in front of me because he had misjudged the speed of the oncoming car.

That was close!

His rear wheel missed my front wheel by about 2 inches, I was raging.

The truck took a left turn up ahead into a residential road. So I followed him, pulled up in front of the truck and gave him the full force of my anger. Watched with great interest by the other workers as they emptied the bins.

But the driver wasn’t sufficiently contrite, in my opinion. So I decided to take direct action. And this is where I need to confess my wrongdoing.

Whoa!

I reached my hand through the open window, grabbed the keys out of the ignition and tossed them into a large bush on the other side of the road. Then I set off to finish my ride.

When I shared this tale with my partner, I was told I would likely feature on the local crime watch program, be reported to the police and face legal action because I had ‘put fear into the heart of the garbage man.’

For context, he was a heavily built, tattooed hairy bloke with no concern for the safety of others, and I’m a 5 ft 4 in slim female. With anger issues clearly.

Upon reflection, I did feel a sense of guilt, and do regret my actions. Heat of the moment and all that.”

When someone is going through a divorce, you never know how they will handle it.

When the man in this story took a phone call from a rude woman who turned out to be his boss’s soon-to-be ex-wife, he tried to be polite. When she really wouldn’t give up with her insane demands, however, he put her in her place and shut her up for good.

Of course, she continued to try to cause problems for him long into the future, but in the end she lost out on the divorce.

Boss and his wife were going through a divorce, she wanted me to order him to do her bidding.

I was in the Air Force, and had been recently promoted, and then transferred to a small electronics maintenance shop in California.

This guy is having a lot of trouble.

The shop boss (a scatterbrained and somewhat spineless guy) thought that I was going to be the new boss until we figured out that he outranked me by “time in grade” – we were the same rank, but he held his rank a year earlier than did I. So he was the boss.

He was also going through a very messy divorce. He caught his wife cheating on him and was heartbroken and bewildered, but his civilian wife had become extremely vicious and was trying to get him in trouble.

What a horrible situation.

Her boyfriend was a military cop (MP), and she tried using that against my boss until the military caught on and put a stop to it.

So, I had only been there for a couple of days, and was alone in the shop doing paperwork when the shop phone rang.

Oh boy, this is drama he doesn’t need.

Her very quiet, and somewhat contrite voice said, “Why do you keep hanging up on me?”

“Ma’am this is a military phone line for military business. I’m not required to listen to an abusive civilian who has nothing to do with my job. So any cursing will immediately end this phone call. Speaking to me is your privilege, not your right.”

No need to let her try to dictate the conversation.

She started to say something, but I just bulldozed over her.

Ma’am, I don’t know you and you don’t know me, but you’ve accused me of being a liar to protect your husband from you. Frankly, I don’t care one way or the other. What is true is that he DOES outrank me by a year in grade, and will remain the shop boss unless something changes.”

He really isn’t messing around.

“You are not in my chain of command, ma’am, so even if I did outrank your husband, I would not order him to do anything for you because that would be unlawful and unethical.”

“I don’t care about what is going on between the two of you, and since I’m not anyone’s friend here I won’t lift a finger to help either of you solve your personal problems. As long as his personal life doesn’t get in the way of his Air Force duties, or break the laws of the UCMJ, then I. Just. Don’t. Care.”

I bet she was shocked.

“Now get off my phone. I have work to do.”

And I hung up again.

Some people get vindictive during a divorce.

She spent the next year trying to mess up his life, and almost succeeded, but a judge saw through the crap and awarded him full custody of their children, with supervised visits only by her. He wasn’t a great leader, but he was adequate. And she was such an awful woman!

And she never said more than a sentence or two to me for the rest of my time at that assignment.

It is funny to think that this lady could demand that this guy do anything. She sounds awful.

I am 41. My girlfriend is 39. I have 2 cats.

One is 9 months old and a little black cat named Siri. The other is around a year old, a tabby named Beep. Both are affectionate and vocal. They always greet me when I come home.

I also have a girlfriend. She is amazing, and every minute with her is awesome. She is always so cute when I am around, and it makes my heart happy when she giggles the way she does just before she hugs me.

Today, the GF started a fight.

But we just had our first big fight.

I know how old we are, but it’s really bothering me.

She up and said I love Siri (my black cat) more than her. It came out of nowhere.

She said that I talk about my cats like they were girlfriends.

This feels really weird to explain, but Siri doesn’t even act like a cat. She chirps, almost barks. And she is really gentle and cuddly.

Is it weird to like that? My girlfriend says I need help for being attached to animals like this.

That was her on best behaviour, telling me straight up how they think about people, and I just nodded.

So what should I have said?

I think that “no-beach policy” wasn’t really about the beach, but about how much trust the company places in its employees. OP wasn’t wrong for staying polite. But it’s also reasonable to question whether that kind of work environment would have been a good fit.

In my humble opinion, it’s the only way to live!

Because let’s be honest, who has time for that nonsense?!?!

Well, a lot of people think they do, and their lives are filled with all kinds of conflicts that could probably be avoided.

In today’s story, a woman explained why she’s had it with her dramatic roommate.

Take a look…and be glad this isn’t happening to you!

Just feeling annoyed. Confronted roommate for monopolizing the shared washroom and she just started yelling nonsense.

“I specifically avoid this housemate. A total 4 of us live here, duplex system. I share a washroom with her and other two downstairs share with each other.

Every single time I turn on the hot water switch, we have to wait for 15 mins minimum. The moment that 15 min is up she goes inside the washroom.

The first time she did it I was like wait what?

I texted her ‘why did u enter when you are not the one to turn the switch on so you know I was waiting for showering?’ and she seen-zoned me.

It happened again!

Today was the second time.

She woke up and saw the switch was one and just got in the washroom knowing someone was waiting for it. If you turn it on, you shower and turn it off after. That’s how it has been in this house for months.

I called her out saying this is the second time you have done this and it’s getting annoying.

This was about to get ugly.

She literally started screaming at me that I keep the lights on all night( my own room lights???), electricity bill is so high last month (I was on semester break last month???), you always just don’t say face to face and then start acting like you are feeling so annoyed nobody told u to tolerate just speak up, etc.

I stood my ground and made her apologize and she said she will not repeat this stuff after almost 30 minutes of yelling. Later another flatmate texted me ‘turn off your own lights before you go to sleep and stop pinning the blame on me’.

I literally just said what?

Then she started saying u blamed me for the high bill and light. I literally have proof of this 2nd roommate constantly keeping the kitchen light on and asking me not to turn it off since she will do it.

This whole thing is out of control.

Why should I be accused of her ‘crime’.

I literally showed her all the times she texted me not to turn the light off repeatedly and it was left on all night long and then she seen-zoned me.

All of these people have zero communication skills.

they think yelling loudly makes them the winner, the moment you pull out evidence against them they ghost u or act like they don’t know you. Just venting here.

My older brother is 21, and I am 18, and he has always been a slacker.

We were not that close in childhood, but I was always kind to him because he is my older brother.

My brother started stealing from me, and it all started with me lending him money myself. First $100, then $200. At some point, it got to $400, and he returned none of it to me. I constantly asked him for it back.

At some point, I stopped lending him money, and I started just saving it in my piggy bank. Then he got into my piggy bank, and not just once.

Unfortunately, no one would listen to her.

I complained to my parents and to other family members. I asked him to stop doing this because it was not necessary. I asked him why, and he just said that he would return it, he would return it, so I would not worry so much.

He said it was just money and asked if I was really that stingy. I could not save up for anything or afford anything for myself. My parents did not give me money.

I hid it everywhere possible already, but walking around everywhere with my money would be absurd.

This last time, he stole a large amount of money from me. I had just received my salary and bonus, and when he said that he could not return it to me because he had already spent it, I did not understand how it was possible to spend such an amount.

This time, she called the police.

I do not believe him, and I think he put it away somewhere.

I snapped and filed a police report against him. Of course, my whole family attacked me. They said that I am a traitor and asked how I could do this to my brother.

I explained to them that I could not endure this anymore, but of course, nobody listened to me.

Tell me, did I act like a fool in this situation? Should I have come up with something else? Believe me, this has continued for many years, and I do not know.

When the CEO and marketing team got back from their conference, I got pulled into the CEO’s office along with the marketing assistant.

We got chewed out for wasting everyone’s time. I was told I should have known better than to do something like that.

And that I was lucky I wasn’t fired. Absolutely crap.

I went home and wrote “f***” in as many ways as I could in my journal and decorated it and colored it.

Over 10 years ago now and it still annoys me.

It’s hard to blame OP for helping organize a casual lunch when everyone involved was on board. If anything, the company’s reaction seemed completely out of proportion. Like seriously, what’s wrong with employees sharing pizza for lunch?

In today’s story, a woman is a big frustrated because her roommate is not only pretty dirty, but she also isn’t on schedule to get her stuff out of their apartment to move out.

“My roommate took herself off the lease and left me as the sole tenant of the apartment. I also chose to end my tenancy since the apartment is too expensive to live alone.

All of this left me as the sole tenant on paper, meaning I am responsible for any damage or lack of cleanliness that she also caused in the almost two years that we lived here as well as the fixed tenancy clause.

She’s really dragging her feet…

The thing is the landlord requires a pre-move out inspection and then a final inspection on or before the end of the month, but she hasn’t taken/packed away most of her stuff and hasn’t even started cleaning or tidying up in any way.

I can only clean around her stuff, and she still has items on the walls that she hasn’t taken down so I can’t even check the walls for damages.

This is really frustrating…

I don’t know if she will even clean as per the move out policy or if she’s leaving all of that up to me as well but I don’t know what to do.

I know her well enough to know that she expects to just be able to move out on or before the last day without thinking about the aftermath (cleaning, inspections, handing over the keys etc.)

I don’t know what to do.

I don’t want to be held liable for any fees after the fact, but I can’t even hold her accountable for that because I’m the sole tenant on paper.”

AITA for calling in a welfare check on my friend?

Me and two of my best friends met at school a few years ago but have since all moved to different states but have been regularly keeping in contact.

Brooke lives in the Midwest. Hanna lives in the northern Midwest, and I live in the South.

Regardless of their location, the girls still do their best to keep in touch.

Normally we are in contact at least once a week. We all have super busy lives now, so it’s not abnormal to go two or three weeks without talking, but we always catch back up. There’s no expectation to be in contact every single day, as that would be unreasonable with us all living very busy lives.

Hanna recently moved to a new state, and we haven’t heard from her in three months.

Soon one of the girls noticed something troubling about Hanna.

We’ve called, texted, and tried to FaceTime, and we’ve gotten nothing in return.

Again, it’s not abnormal to go a couple of weeks, but three months was seeming excessive. Brooke and I reached out to some mutual friends and Hanna’s aunt to see if they’d heard from her in a while, just because we were getting concerned.

This was really out of character for her, so they wanted to play it safe.

We weren’t necessarily concerned that anything bad had happened, but three months, again, was just a really long time, and she wasn’t returning any calls or texts, and she wasn’t posting on social media as often as normal.

After not being able to get a hold of some other friends and hearing back from her aunt, Brooke and I decided to call in a wellness check just to see if she was okay.

But Hanna wasn’t happy about this intervention.

Well, a few hours later we got a text from Hanna saying that we were going overboard and being extreme, and it was unnecessary for us to talk to her aunt, our mutual friend, and call the police. She said that she’s been extremely busy and doesn’t have any time to relax or do the things she wants to do because she’s busy working.

The rest of the group doesn’t feel like Hanna is being fair to them.

I understand things get busy, but again, it had been three months. Hanna was extremely mad at us and told us moving forward to not do anything like that again.

We apologized for seeming to be excessive, but we just wanted her to know that we were concerned and we missed her.

It’s not like a wellness check was their first strategy. They had already tried texting, calling, and FaceTiming, but nothing worked.

Calling that overboard conveniently skips over the fact that the alternative was simply accepting an unexplained three-month silence and hoping for the best.

If Hanna doesn’t want to keep in touch any longer, then she needs to use her words and explain that.

Employee Blows up Phone while I’m on vacation

I work as a foodservice manager hourly. I was recently transferred to a new store because they needed help.

Corporate seems to think I can get it back up to the standard the health department requires with a team who has no respect for authority and a lot of drama.

In June, my husband and I were invited to a lake house over a weekend we both had off.

Within the first day of being up there, one of my employees called me twice with “issues” they could have solved themselves.

This woman rejected a work call while she was on vacation.

This past weekend, my husband and I went out of state, several hours away. This was a trip that had been planned for several months.

On the second night up here, she called me twice. I declined her calls because I’m on PTO and there’s another manager there.

I asked her what was up, and she said she was “done filling in for people.”

I said we’d discuss this when I got back (she wasn’t filling in for anybody), and she sent a thumbs up.

She got blamed for employee problems in the workplace when she wasn’t even there.

Yesterday, she sent me a text basically saying I need to go through my boss or someone else if I “want contact with [her].”

I immediately called my boss, and it sounds like I’m getting blamed for someone not showing up to two of his shifts.

At this point, I’m done with the drama, but I’m losing two people.

They are firing the one who didn’t call and show, and the other one is going back to school in August.

Employees are given time off for a reason. And when they are on vacation, they shouldn’t be disturbed, let alone blamed for anything that happens in the office. I honestly think OP handled the situation reasonably by setting boundaries. It’s just that the workplace drama eventually became too much to deal with.

Getting the green light for a trip and then getting blindsided by a fight over that same trip a week later is exactly the kind of whiplash one man is currently navigating.

AITA for wanting a trip with my friends

For context, these are mates I’ve met at work over the past 2-3 years who I have become close with since then, as we get along both professionally and personally.

They went on a trip to Vietnam over a year ago which I couldn’t make as it was about a month out from a trip me and my partner took and was last minute.

But when he tried to book another international trip,

I booked a trip to Thailand, to go obviously Bangkok for a couple days, then onto Phuket and the islands from there.

My partner wasn’t happy for me to go until I met these friends, which I tried to initiate years ago and never happened. They and some other work friends met up, and she was happy for me to go as she could see they were fun, going people.

His girlfriend is now really unhappy about the idea.

We had a fight and she isn’t happy, as our last trip in March/April was average (nothing on me, the trip itself), and she is unhappy about going again after we had an average trip.

She is unhappy we are going to Thailand (all men), and I can book something last minute, which has been spitting ideas back and forth since 1-2 years ago from the Vietnam trip which I understandably couldn’t go on.

She had told me I should go, and she is happy to go after talking.

But it didn’t take long for her true feelings to bubble back up to the surface.

I confirmed again, so booked a flight there plus a couple hotels. A week after, a fight broke out from the above about our crap trip and booking last minute.

AITA for wanting a boy’s trip to Thailand.
