Jamaica says no to Dudus US extradition

Jamaica Prime Minister Bruce Golding has responded to United State criticism over their refusal to extradite Tivoli Gardens don Dudus. Christopher Coke otherwise known as Dudus has been the subject of an extradition request by the United States since August 25, 2009. The Jamaican government maintains that the evidence presented by the United States was obtained illegally, and as such, the request has been denied.

No to Kartel and Mavado in Barbados

Although Mavado and Vybz Kartel have made peace, the Commissioner of Police in Barbados, Darwin Dottin, is objecting to their joint performance in that country on March 27. Dottin said the force was concerned about the negativity associated with both entertainers. Dottin also said that the force did not have the authority to ban artistes wishing to perform in Barbados, given the provisions of the CARICOM Treaty on freedom of movement, but he urged the organisers to look again.

Trinidad Petrotrin sued in New York

Petrotrin has been sued by World GTL Incorporated and its subsidiary, World GTL (St Lucia), in the United States Federal Court in Manhattan, New York, seeking no less than $12 billion for their losses over the collapse and breach of contract of a joint venture project. The action arose out of the alleged wrongful taking and expropriation of a nearly-completed $3 billion gas-to-liquid plant, being constructed inside the Petrotrin refinery, Pointe-a-Pierre.

Beyonce Knowles ended her I AM World Tour in Trinidad and Tobago last night to much pleasure. Beyonce aka Sasha Fierce, performing for her first time in Trinidad at the Queen's Park Savannah remarked that the people of Trinidad and Tobago know "how to party". Opening for Beyonce was Machel Montano and the HD Family, with Destra Garcia joining him for their hit combo, Is Carnival.

JW and Blaze with Palance have undoubtedly won Road March 2010 in Trinidad by leaps and bounds. Even without the official results being announced, Palance was easily the most played tune for Carnival 2010. It will be more difficult to figure out who place second and third in the Road March race. An official with the NCC, has even stated there is really no reason to tally the figures.

Mavado manager robbed over website in Canada

Julian Jones-Griffith, manager for dancehall ace Mavado, was robbed over the weekend of his cellular phone and laptop. Mavado, Stacious and Jones-Griffith were in Toronto last weekend for a number of appearances in the Ontario mecca. Rumours began surfacing on the Toronto Star website claiming Mavado was robbed outside a recording studio while on tour in Toronto, Canada.

Brian Lara home robbed

The Lady Chancellor mansion of former West Indies star Brian Lara has been robbed. A safe with close to TT$1 million was reported missing as well as more than 40 VVIP tickets for the upcoming B3 Beyonce I AM concert. The vault also contained personal items belonging to Lara. Police said the theft was discovered during the early hours on February 3rd, 2010. Police have held eight individuals in connection with the robbery.

Buju Banton held in Miami on cocaine charges

Buju Banton is in custody in Miami, where he is expected to be charged with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute more than five kilos (11 pounds) of cocaine. Drug Enforcement Administration agents say Buju Banton, real name Mark Anthony Myrie, has been in custody since Thursday and will soon be transferred to Tampa where the charges are expected to be laid.

Jamaica Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police Glenmore Hinds, has publicly stated that his forces are ready for any backlash associated with the deportation of West Kingston don, Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke. Dudus is wanted in the United States on drug and arms trafficking charges. The Jamaican Government has not signed the request since the United States sent the papers to Jamaica in August.

Former Miss Universe Trinidad and Tobago 2008 contestant, Anya Ayoung-Chee has a sex tape which was supposedly swiped from the laptop of her boyfriend, Wyatt Gallery. According to TMZ, Wyatt Gallery confirmed Ayoung-Chee was in the tape with him and another woman, but the other woman was not Miss Japan Hiroko Mima. Gallery claims the video with him, Ayoung-Chee and another unidentified woman was swiped while at a PC repair shop in Trinidad.

Trinidad and Tobago Works Minister Colm Imbert announced yesterday that President George Maxwell Richards would proclaim the act which will allow the use of the breathalyser in Trinidad and Tobago on Monday. The reason for the charge is failure to pay a local business man money owed in the amount of US$ 19,993. The court order was issued by Justice Sebastian Ventor. Jah Cure was recently released from prison in Jamaica after serving time for rape.

In previous years Peter Tosh was more popular in internet searches that any dancehall artist. Currently, for every 100 searches for Vybz Kartel there were 63 for Tosh. The Marleys, heirs of the Jamaican reggae legend Bob Marley taking up the fight against the global trademark pirates, wanting to enforce their exclusive rights to Bob Marley’s image that has grown steadily in scope and appeal since the reggae superstar died of brain cancer in 1981 at the young age of 36. The Marley name, look and sound are estimated to generate an estimated $600 million a year in sales of pirated items.
