All That (Natural Self Remix) / Forever And A Day (Eric Lau Remix)

An essential 12” from Tru Thoughts, this double A side brings two excellent songs from Lizzy Parks’ debut album ‘Raise The Roof’ into a whole new sphere, with heavyweight remixes by Natural Self and Eric Lau.

“All That (Natural Self Remix)” was picked up as a highlight of the upcoming year on the BBC 6Music Funk & Soul Show’s end of 2008 show, which aired as a special on BBC Radio 2 in December. Natural Self, the king of beatsy funk gives this great, swing-fuelled song a live party ambience, amping up the double bass and burying some of his trademark electronic noisemongering low down in the mix for a totally new take on the track.

The Eric Lau Remix of the dramatic “Forever And A Day” showcases Lau’s unique, crisp and twisted take on modern soul that has won him may fans including 4 Hero, Bugz In The Attic, Phonte (Little Brother), Benji B and Mista Jam (BBC 1xtra). The UK producer’s recent album, released on Ubiquity, featured as album of the year in Gilles Peterson’s BBC Worldwide Awards and Vapors Magazine.

This 12” is a limited pressing of 500, and also features the reworked instrumental cuts and original a capellas for both tracks.

Praise for Lizzy Parks’ ‘Raise The Roof’ album:
•	“A very classy affair” – Craig Charles (BBC 6Music)
•	“Lovely Lovely LOVELY! Will playlist this on the radio. A great release” – Laurent Garnier
•	“A work of art – with its dense, panoramic and majestic soundscape” – Snowboy (for Blues & Soul)
•	“Great, will be giving this an airing on the show” – DJ Food (Ninja Tune)
•	“Wonderful, uplifting jazz soul nuggets” – DJ Mag

Black Gold 7

The second installment in Tru Thoughts’ Black Gold series of limited vinyl DJ weapons features two killer cover versions set to become Tru Thoughts classics: Quantic And His Combo Bárbaro give you their spin on “Wandering Star” by Portishead, and Nostalgia 77 hooks up with the Fiction Trio to take on Eminem’s “My Name Is”.

Both tracks on this double A side 7” are taken from the upcoming ‘Tru Thoughts Covers’ album, which is coming out later in 2009 (on the Unfold imprint) and features some of the label’s biggest covers from over the years as well as a number of other exclusives from Jamie Woon, Bugz In The Attic and Lizzy Parks amongst others.

The DJs are loving these two beauties – here are a couple of the reactions so far:
Boca 45 – “Brilliant 45! Both sides will fit perfectly in ‘Boca plays his 45s’ sets. Genius idea of Quantic to do a calypso version of wondering star!” 9/10
Ashley Beedle – “As always a great treat from Tru Thoughts to get the Black Gold 7“s. Both sides do the business. Class.” 10/10

This Black Gold 7” is the first ever release to feature the sound of Quantic And His Combo Bárbaro, the new band that Will Holland has assembled in his current home of Cali, Colombia. More from them soon…

The Black Gold 7” is limited to 500 copies worldwide.

Stabilo Bossa

Stabilo Bossa / Kes is Simon “Bonobo” Green’s first Tru Thoughts release under his Mr. Hyde like pseudonym Barakas.
This new persona allows Simon Green to produce heavier dance floor tunes and blend heavier breaks, builds and drops with his trademark organic melodies and melodic progressions.

Stabilo Bossa is a lively, fast-tempo dance track with bassy undertones, horns, and symbols combined with Latino elements and dirty synth sounds. This is beautifully coupled with the B-side Kes, which has a steady beat intro that breaks into a faster, verging on drum and bass, beat and sick cyber electro snippets that get your mouth watering.

This phenomenal 12” is available to buy now on the Etch Shop for only £3.99.

This dance floor side to Simon Green has been spotted once before on a Tru Thoughts release when he collaborated with A&R manager Robert Luis to release ‘Bungee Jump Against Racism’ under the names Nirobi & Barakas. This was released as a 12” in 2005 and is also available to buy now on the Etch Shop for only £3.99.
