This is great news for the very strong following of regular guests who return to this hotel year after year.

Refurbishment was delayed due to the late arrival of furniture coming from the Far East. 3 months later it has arrived!

There is a fabulous Summer rate available from April 1 to early December 2010 that makes this a great buy. A week this summer inclusive of flights hotels and transfers will start around £899. If you check it out on Tripadvisor you will find that the staff, the food and the welcome are what returning guests appreciate. “It kind of felt like a houseparty” said one guest ” Staff are extremely friendly and attentive and it is close to the best beach on the island Pebbles Beach” said another.

There is also something historic about the surroundings. It used to be a rum store and was built in 1804. Also the nearby Pebbles Beach is great to watch high speed beach cricket Bajan style on Saturdays and Sundays.

If you like this style of hotel, you should also check out Discovery Bay one of Tropical Sky’s clients’ favourite hotels.

Ally one of our Travel Advisors has just returned from Las Vegas! Below is a run down of her trip ..

I travelled to Las Vegas with 4 friends for a 5 night girly get away from the rainy UK at the end of Feb and although the weather was quite chilly it didn’t stop us having a fabulous time. Most people go to Vegas for the gambling but we didn’t have time for this which must seem really odd. On arrival we decided to arrive in style so I arranged for a stretch limo to pick us up from the airport to take us to The Luxor Hotel, via the strip. My friends just couldn’t believe it and we all felt like VIP’s as we stepped out of the vehicle. The Luxor Hotel was very much like a Tardis and from the outside it didn’t look that large but inside the casino went on forever. Our room was in the west wing and, luckily, we were able to have interconnecting rooms which worked out really well.

On our first day we started to explore ‘The Strip’. First stop was the Bellagio with its amazing water fountains at the front. Inside, and through the casino, we visited the Conservatory where they had an amazing display for Chinese New Year complete with statue, hundred of flowers including orchids, fountains, trees, and much more. It must’ve cost a fortune to put this together. From here we went onto the Venetian with its St. Marks tower, gondola river ride and painted ceilings, then over to Caesars Palace to see the fountains and complimentary show called the ‘Downfall of Atlantis’. A trip to the top of the Stratosphere was almost too much after seeing the rides. Who in their right minds would want to sit in an open top car and be transported over the edge of the tower at 80 floors above ground level - absolute madness. On the 3rd evening we booked to see Phantom of the Opera at the Venetian - wow what a brilliant show and the production was first class. On the way back to the hotel we stopped outside the Mirage for their amazing Volcano display.

We must’ve walked miles during the first 3 days but on the 4th day we had booked a helicopter trip to the Grand Canyon with an overnight stay at the Grand Canyon Western cowboy ranch. This was brilliant. The helicopter took approximately 45 minutes and Captain Mike took us over Lake Mead and the Hoover Dam before descending into and over the Canyon. Luckily we had a good day for flying and the colours of the rock in the Canyon were amazing. When we arrived at the Ranch we were greeted by a real cowboy (Billy) and taken to our cabin in a horse drawn carriage. After a welcome drink we unpacked our overnight bags before saddling up for a 45 minute horse ride. It was freezing and there was still snow on the mountains but what a brilliant experience - the horses were so good. That evening we ate a typical cowboy dinner of steak and beans in the main cabin house which was like stepping back in time. There were lots of old black and white photos on the walls, lace curtains at the windows and lots of cowboy memorabilia scattered around. The chairs and table were solid wood and extremely heavy but hand made. Afterwards we sat around the camp fire for a sing song with cowboy Mike. Inside our cabins we had a wood burning stove, bathroom and double bed downstairs and upstairs in the gallery there were a further 3 single beds which is ideal for families. All beds also had electric blankets which was great as it was so cold even around the camp fire.

The next morning we were awake early and had time to explore the ranch and have a look in the tipi’s which are used in the summer and the old saloon bar and wagon. After a typical American breakfast we were taken back to the helicopter for our 40 minute back to Vegas and a tour down the strip.

Our last day was spent shopping in the Outlet Mall 2 miles south of the Luxor and a visit to the MGM grand to see the lion enclosure. We also had a flutter on the one armed bandits in the Casino where one of us put in $1 and won $129 - the rest of us lost within the space of about 5 minutes.

There’s loads of restaurants to choose from in the hotels and they’re all after your business but one of the best we found was the ‘all you can eat buffet’ in the Bellagio. The price for dinner was $30 each and there was so much to choose from including Alaskan Crab legs but if you go expect to wait up to half an hour to be seated as its so popular. For a typical American Diner, I recommend Cocos just off the Strip near to Hooters and opposite the MGM Grand. The breakfasts here were just fantastic and cheaper than anywhere downtown.

We all agreed that 5 nights in Las Vegas was just about right but be prepared to walk miles and to ‘tip’ everywhere you go.

There are endless things to do in Hong Kong for all types of tourists. The city is a bustling metropolis with some of the world’s tallest skyscrapers but there are some surprisingly beautiful nature reserves and parks too, so even the most active holiday makers or those just looking to relax will find the perfect mix at this diverse destination.

One of the most popular attractions for all tourists is The Peak, Hong Kong Island. Giving arguably the best view of the city skyline, The Peak showcases the towering skyscrapers, the world-famous Victoria Harbour and Kowloon and peaceful green hillsides. Getting to it is an experience in itself as the Peak Tram climbs 373 metres up a steep hill, making the buildings look like they’re at a 45°angle! There are a number of things to do when you’ve reached the top including the Peak Circle Walk or have a wander down to the Lugard Road Lookout for fabulous views across the harbour.

If you want to get away from the busy urban city, there are many parts that are still luscious and green with much of the country preserved as Country Parks and Nature Reserves. Among the favourites lies The Hong Kong national Geopark which covers an area of 50 square kilometres.

But if all that is still a bit too much activity, there are countless beautiful and peaceful temples to help you get away from it all.

Days were spent sunning themselves on idyllic beaches and generally doing what every heartbroken multi-millionairess would do. With gorgeous beaches, crystal clear waters, a low key, chilled out atmosphere and food delicious enough to entice even the smallest of celebrity appetites, it’s clear why she chose Thailand. Now, in the aftermath of break up number two, all eyes were on the shrinking starlet again to see where she’d escape. With half the worlds paparazzi in LA, why Cheryl chose La La land to hide away this time is almost as mysterious as her choosing to stay with Ashley for so long!

An array of shops are on offer, including the traditional markets and the upmarket chic boutiques.

However, arguably one of the best things to do in Chiang Mai is a cooking course. With amazing food sold on every corner, its seems a waste to return home without learning how to recreate the fabulous food. A vast array of cooking courses are on offer to tourists which use the freshest ingredients, with English-speaking chefs who teach up to seven meals, it really does make for an authentic experience.

Best For Beaches - Antigua
Antigua’s beaches are supreme. As a coral-based island, the sand is bright white and there is plenty of it, collecting in the curves of the islands’ zig-zag coastline. What’s more, Antigua is said to have 365 beaches, one for every day of the year. All of the beaches on Antigua are open to the public, though some of the harder to reach beaches are among the island’s most beautiful, making the journey well worth the effort!

Best For First-Timers To The Caribbean – Barbados
It is easy to get to, friendly, lively in places and an ideal place to start for a first-time visitor. The island also has excellent beaches and places to stay and the climate is top notch. For its size, Barbados has more to offer than any other island in the region, but its relative development means that it may not fit everyone’s idea of a tropical escape.

Best For Sailing and Spice – Grenada
Tall, volcanic and immensely green, Grenada has some of the best sailing in the Caribbean. Grenada is also immensely fertile and there are some exceptional public and private gardens on the island for those interested in Grenadian spices – cocoa, nutmeg and mace, allspice, cinnamon and ginger. It’s no wonder why Grenada calls itself the ‘Isle of Spice’.

Best For Exploring and Adventure – Jamaica
One of the largest Caribbean islands, Jamaica is an excellent place to travel around - there are so many tourist attractions in Jamaica that there is always something to suit everyone. This lively, energetic island offers the adventurous traveller endless things to do and see, not just on the beaches, but inland in the mountains and rivers. Jamaica also has a lively cultural life, with excellent music and plenty of opportunities to mix it up with the locals! The Jamaicans themselves are funny, charming and eccentric, exasperating at times, but always engaging!

Here at Tropical Sky we pride ourselves on being the wedding abroad experts. We have a dedicated team who take care of your wedding arrangements whether you’re looking to get married on safari, want a cultural fusion ceremony in Thailand or prefer to tie the knot in the tropical and romantic Caribbean.
So, when couple Neil Ward and Louise Robertson came to us to arrange their wedding in the Caribbean, we were delighted to assist. Little did we know however that the groom planned to row across the Atlantic to Barbados to meet his bride-to-be! Now that’s what we call “Row-Mantic”!

Ski instructor, Louise said she had no idea where or how they wanted to get married, but Neil joked he’d row the Atlantic just to marry her. That idea obviously stuck, so having decided on the Caribbean, Louise threw down the gauntlet to Tropical Sky to make that happen. Tropical Sky has arranged some unusual weddings in the past, from ceremonies with elephants in Sri Lanka to saying nuptials on the tip of the Grand Canyon with a horse-drawn wagon for transport, but this one was definitely different!

We rose to the challenge though, so that by the time avid adventurer Neil left the port of San Sebastian La Gomera in the Canary Islands on the 4th January 2010, all was arranged. Getting hitched didn’t go entirely without a hitch and we had to quickly re-arrange the wedding date to Saturday February 13th to accommodate Neil’s delayed arrival. One day out after rowing the Atlantic Ocean isn’t bad going really and is the perfect excuse for the groom to assume the bride’s usual prerogative of being late on the wedding day!

To celebrate of Neil’s fantastic achievement and Louise’s astonishing faith in her soon-to-be hubby, we’ve put together a special “Row-Mantic” Caribbean Wedding Package – with only a one-way flight included! So if any other adventure junkies want to try their hand at crossing the Atlantic themselves, Tropical Sky already has the perfect ready –made solution. It starts from £1,182 per person. The price includes seven nights all-inclusive in a deluxe pool/garden view room, one-way flights with Virgin Atlantic, resort transfers and a free wedding to incorporate ceremony charges, wedding coordinator, Champagne, wedding cake, flowers and more.

Swimming, rowing, surfing or snorkeling, or even if you prefer a more conventional approach to getting married in the Caribbean, call us on 0845 543 2203 to make your special day even more special!

Below: Neil and Louise after Neils arrival, sipping cocktails (Well Deserved). Congratulations!

Taking place at the Rhodes Hall Plantation in Hanover, the event is organised by Positive Tourism Network and the Caribbean Health Tourism & Spa Conference, who aim to promote healthier Caribbean diets and change people’s philosophy towards food. The focus will be on every conceivable type of vegetarian food available in the Caribbean including five star gourmet preparations, raw foods, healthy juices, natural pies, natural herbs and spices and natural wines from plant sources. Exhibitors will include vegetarian restaurants, vegetarian food purveyors, juice makers, natural seasoning producers, herb growers, and a farmers market. The festival will also include health and spa sections, where health and wellness professionals will showcase their skills and knowledge.

Whilst some might argue that Egypt is a place to spend more time under than out of the water, there are plenty more (than just) fish in the sea for those who do their research! Not only are Egypt’s pyramids one of the great wonders of the world, but the Nile that runs through the country is the longest river in the world!
Egypt was one of the greatest civilizations of the past and has over 4,000 years of history, so it’s a must-visit destination for culture vultures!

If all that’s still not enough, the following events take place annually;

July/August - Summer Mouleds
The most prominent religious festivals which tourists experience in Egypt are the ‘mouleds’, which are incredibly lively processions that take to the streets of Cairo on various saints’ birthdays. The mouleds generally take place in summer and blend religion with folklore, usually taking the form of wild dancing accompanied by music, chanting and fireworks.

October - Pharaohs Rally The thrilling three-week-long endurance race across the Sahara Desert attracts competitors from all four corners of the globe. The Pharaohs Rally is a 1864-mile (3000km) circuit beginning under the Sphinx in Giza, crossing the finish line in Cairo. Prices range from €3700 to participate.

November - Cairo International Film Festival
With a cinematic tradition dating back as far as the 1930, Cairo is known as the ‘Hollywood of the Middle East’. The Cairo International Film Festival began in 1976 and continues to wow film-goers who visit annually. For younger film enthusiasts, the Cairo International Film Festival for Children stakes place in March each year and sustains and encourages films which address youth issues.

It might be a city that never sleeps, with more than enough bars, restaurants and night-time haunts to satisfy any thrill-seeking traveller, but it is also extremely traditional and uniquely Indian. Where else would you sit in a taxi in traffic that eclipses New York’s, alongside rickshaws, donkeys, London buses and children begging?

Where else could you stand knee-deep in the Indian ocean, before filtering through the vast array of award-winning entertainment options, all stemming from the city - from world-renowned film to theatre and a million different dance and music shows.

With its millions of sights, smells and sounds, Mumbai is not a city that can be contained or compared to anywhere else in the world - See it to believe it!

Cuba is a hive of creative and cultural activity at the best of times, but in February the island’s creative juices go into overdrive, with a plethora of music, literary and multimedia events happening throughout the month and into March. These include the Festival Internacional Jazz Plaza, which is one of Havana’s most famous music events. The Jazz Festival celebrates the connection between Cuban rhythm and jazz, which goes back to the late 19th century when newly freed slaves immigrated to New Orleans. If swinging your thing isn’t your bag, what about the Festival de Música Antigua Esteban Salas? Previously an event to commemorate the music of Cuban composer Esteban Salas, it has now become a festival of early music. Every year the event gathers outstanding performers of Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque music who perform in Old Havana.

For book worms the Feria Internacional del Libro is a must to visit. What began as a modest book fair founded by the famous Cuban writer, scientist and philosopher Alejo Carpentier, and held in the surrounding areas of Havana’s Central Park, eventually became the most important book and literary event on the island! Anyone feeling that bit more cutting edge will appreciate the Muestra Nacional de Nuevos Realizadores, which is an event for the promotion of new filmmakers and showcases daring and inquisitive works usually produced outside official production. The event includes the screening of films by young filmmakers, as well as international contemporary cinema.

One tip though – steer clear of coconut milk, which is laden with fat and added to everything in South East Asia - curries, rice, marinades and even your morning porridge! Thai sweets (based on egg yolks and sugar) are pretty lethal, too! However, whilst in Rome…

It may be the smallest micro-state in South East Asia, but Singapore offers a world of contrasts and with its diverse racial mix of Indian, Malay and Chinese, it is an exciting and authentic destination for visitors to experience Chinese New Year. The Lunar New Year is the most important festival in the Chinese calendar and is a time to exchange well wishes and gifts of good fortune. The streets of Singapore’s Chinatown become lit with red lanterns, twinkling lights and elaborate decorations, fireworks colour the sky and busy street bazaar stalls are laden with Chinese delicacies and symbols of prosperity and good luck. Part of the festivities is the Chingay Parade, the largest and grandest street procession in the country, which is a multi-cultural and cosmopolitan parade featuring some of the finest performing groups from around the world. This colourful event presents lavishly decorated floats, stilt-walkers, lion dancers, fire jugglers, and music performances. Another annual New Year must-see is the River Hong Bao, which is a cultural event including a range of performances from top national artists, as well as art and craft stalls and floats!

Despite the average British tourist tending to tower over Thailand’s generally shorter population, this diminutive race has a national sport that would kick any 6ft rugby player into touch. Thrill seekers wanting to see Thailand’s pocket rockets brave it out in a muay thai (Thai kick-boxing) match can do so almost every day of the year, at the major stadiums in both Bangkok and the provinces. Traditional Thai boxing matches are preceded by elaborate ceremonies and accompanied by lively music, with the biggest and most popular events held at the Lumpini Boxing Stadium and Ratchadamnoen Boxing Stadium. Be sure to ignore street touts and get tickets from authorised sellers in the ticket booths at the stadium. Ticket prices usually vary depending on the seating, though they may be slightly higher on big event nights. If you’re keen on throwing a few punches yourself, why not take Muay Thai lessons too…

Just in time for the month of puritanical dieting, purging and being generally sin-less, Boeing is about to introduce guilt-free flying to the world. The long-awaited 787 Dreamliner has finally completed its first test flight from a runway next to Boeing’s plant near Seattle, which was witnessed by thousands. At 22 feet long and 19 feet diameter, it heralds a new era of plastics-based aircraft with the potential to save airlines millions of dollars in fuel costs and help the planet to boot! For those really wanting to push the eco-friendly boat out on their next holiday, there are plenty of hotels and resorts that advocate green and sustainable tourism. These include The Verandah Hotel in Antigua and the Gayana Eco Resort in Borneo.

Staying at Almond Morgan Bay on a recent trip to St Lucia, i booked a boat trip to see the sights of the island. Definitely a MUST for anyone planning to visit ….

After an early morning pick-up we set sail along the stunning west coast. The staff were excellent pointing out exclusive hotels and flora and fauna along the way.

Our first stop was the beach at Jalousie, set in between the twin piton peaks. Absolutely gorgeous with white sand and crystal clear water - i could have stayed all day!

From the beach we were collected via taxi and transported to the Sulphur Springs at Souffiere. The only ‘drive in’ volcano in the Caribbean, we took an escorted tour.

Next stop was the Diamond Water falls - we all hopped in for a quick cool down. I was amazed at the sheer force of the water - not for the faint hearted!

We travelled back down to the beach and boarded the boat heading to a secluded beach for lunch. It was great trying the local produce, the fish was so fresh and barbequed to perfection! After we were all suitably full we headed back onto the boat for the quick ride to a Marine Park right next to Jalousie.

This is a great spot for snorkelling as the sea bed drops away and the fish are in abundance. For those who aren’t into snorkelling the view looking up to the pitons is spectacular. I sat on the edge of the shore and fed the fish some of my banana. I was surprised at how many different types of fish surrounded me in seconds!

As i was doing this a large crowd was forming at the other end of the beach. I headed down to see what they were looking at, turtles were hatching! Very strange as they normally hatch during the night - what a great experience! As i reached the beach the last two turtles were heading down to the sea.

After about an hour of snorkelling we jumped back onto the boat stopping briefly at Marigot Bay. This was such a great day out an perfect for all the family!

1. Thailand is a Buddhist country, where Buddhist images are held sacred. Therefore be careful what you touch, stand on and don’t take anything!
2. Dress properly when entering a Buddhist temple. Cover up before going into a hall of worship.
3. When entering a Thai house, remember to remove your shoes.
4. Avoid placing your feet on the table while sitting, pointing at or touching anybody with your feet – it is considered rude.
5. Traditionally Thai people greet each other with a wai (by pressing their palms together at their chest). If someone wais at you, wai back – unless wai-ed at by a child.
6. Thai people absolutely LOVE their King, and if you visit in late November around the King’s birthday, absolutely everyone wears yellow to celebrate! Yellow t-shirts are on sale everywhere for those who want to join the party….
7. Don’t touch a Thai woman, they are very conservative – even a pat on the back can be perceived as offensive.
8. Thai people smile to express gladness, thank and greet people – hence why they are seen as such a happy nation. Try and crack a few – it isn’t difficult in Thailand!
9. Don’t touch a Thai person on the head. The head is seen as the noblest part of the body and a sincere apology should be offered if someone’s head is touched unintentionally.
10. Public displays of affection should be avoided between men and women, and nude sunbathing is a huge no-no.

Those who venture further than the bright lights of the city will realise that Dubai offers much, much more than glitz and glamour. The strange, barren landscape of the desert offers a plethora of adventures for when the shopping, spas and nightlife has become tiresome. The desert can be explored in many quirky and crazy ways, from camel trekking to four-wheel drive safaris, and those who want to understand the desert eco system can even opt for a desert walk led by conservationists. There are so many traditional Arabian pursuits on offer that to stay within the hotel grounds would be a waste of a stay! Anyone for a barbeque in a Bedouin encampment?
