It is not recommended to use both at the same time, we usually either use PowerPath or VMware NMP. Refer to "EMC PowerPath VE With VSphere" documentation for more details. Q2) Can we use VMware Update Manager (VUM) to schedule upgrading of VMware tools on the VMs to meet latest ESX hardware version ? Yes, this is possible with VMware Update Manager 4. We do not need to create a new baseline, there's a default baseline that does this task. Q3) Does Storage Vmotion use the Service Console to migrate running VMs live from one storage to another storage ? Storage VMotion migrates VM via the Service Console network, this means that there's no additional burden on the other Virtual Machine connection network. Q4) Can we implement VMware Fault Tolerance on a VM with an existing VMware Snapshot on the VM ? No, VMware FT does not support VM with existing snapshots. We have to merge or discard the snapshot before enabling VMware FT to protect that VM. Q5) What is the protocol used by vCenter Linked Mode to link to other Virtual Center Servers ? vCenter Management Server 4 uses LDAP via port 386 by default. Q6) Does VMware supports installation of vCenter Server 4 on Windows Server 2008 R2 operating system platform ? No, Windows Server 2008 R2 is not a supported platform for installing vCenter Server 4. Refer to "vSphere Compatibility Matrix" for details. Q7) Is it possible to configure both thin provisioned virtual disk and thick provision virtual disk n a single VM, thus, creation of a VM with multiple virtual disks which have different provisioned modes virtual disk ? Yes, this is possible. Q8) When deploying thin provisioned virtual disk for VM, the virtual disk is expand on demand which creates many fragments which could be scattered across our datestore, what's the way to defrag a VM with thin provisioned virtual disk ? When performing Storage Vmotion migrating the VM to a different LUN and migrating the VM back to original datastore, the VM's file will be fragmented. Q9) During Scripted Installation of ESX Server 4, is it possible create local directory on the host and run scripts to install third party utilities from other vendors such as HP or Dell ? Yes, it is possible to create a local directory to load packages then configure scripts to run pre or post installation of ESX Server. Refer to "Scripted Installation of ESX" for more information. Q10) What's the major different between virtual network adapter E1000 and VMXNET3 ? VMXNET3 is the third generation of paravirtual network adapter by VMware. Includes features such as MSI/MSI-X support, Receive Side Scaling, IPv6 checksum and TCP Segmentation Offloading (TSO) over IPv6, VLAN off-loading and Large TX/RX ring sizes. Refer to "vSphere Networking" guide and "E1000 and VMXNET3" discussion for more details. Q11) Are we able to configure vCenter Server Heartbeat to keep replication and synchonization while disabling automatic failover and enabling only the option for a manual switch over ? No, that is not possible with current version of vCenter Server Heartbeat. Q12) If the local Windows OS running vCenter Server Heartbeat restarts after applying a security patch, will the Primary vCenter Server trigger a failover to the Secondary vCenter Server ? As the default ping for the channel network is 3 pings with 20 seconds interval between each ping, the failover will occur and Secondary vCenter Server will take control and start protected services. However, we are able to configure the ping intervals in the vCenter Server Heartbeat manage server console. Q13) Can we import host profiles created on our master vCenter Server located in our main datecenter to the vCenter Servers running in remote sites or branch offices ? Yes, vCenter host profile configuration allows us to import host profiles created in virtual machine profile format .vpf into existing vCenter Servers that we wish to apply the host </itunes:summary><description>Q1) Can we use EMC PowerPath together with VMware NMP (Native Multi-pathing Plug-in) ?

It is not recommended to use both at the same time, we usually either use PowerPath or VMware NMP. Refer to...&lt;div class="feedflare"&gt;

Desktop recomposition is use to update changes such as application updates, patches, service packs or even Vista upgrades to the source image. Desktop refresh is returning the image back to it's original state when you first deployed it. Q2) During installation of View Connection Server, installation halted due to IIS using port 80, what should I do ? There are 2 options, either you can stop the IIS service on the Windows OS you are installing the View Connection Server or you can change the port from 80 to 8000. This is because the installation requires the use of port 80. Q3) If I have an SQL Server Application running in my 6gb VM and I decide to check it out, will the application be checkout as well ? Yes, View client with offline desktop will checkout the entire VM including everything inside so that your mobile users can use their VM offline even without network connectivity. Q4) What is the recommendation to protect VMware View Connection Server to ensure high avaliability ? The way to build high availability is to configure replica View connection servers, the sessions information is replicated between View connection servers using ADAM. Q5) If the user were to checkout an offline desktop and the online equavilent were to get patched by administrators, when the users update their offline desktop or run the backup will their offline desktops receive the patches as well ? Update will not be possible as this kind of operations is not available. Q6) Is the link clone technology used in VMware View Composer similar to the one used in VMware Lab Manager ? No. When using VMware View Composer link clone technology to create multiple desktops or pool of desktops using the Automated Desktop Delivery option, the virtual machines being created are reflected in the Virtual Center Server via VI Client. Q7) Besides integration with AD, what other directory services does VMware View integrate with ? As of present, it is only able to integrate with AD and no other services. Q8) Is there a way to enhance the security level on my View Connection Server ? Yes. We can integrate VMware View Connection Server with RSA Secur ID. Q9) Name me a key difference between VMware View and Citrix Xen desktop virtualization ? Citrix is a forward looking technology which supports W2k3 OS and above. Whereas, VMware View gives users the flexibility of looking at a wider range of OS ranging from legacy OS to the latest OS available in the market. Q10) Does VMware View's VMs support printer drivers and usb devices on the client ? Yes. There is support for all printer drivers as it is using virtual drivers and usb devices on the VMs are also supported. Q11) What is the benefit of using VMware ThinApp for packaging an application ? It packs the application into an exe file which means you do not have to install the application into your user's system drive. The exe file can be run from any location including network shares, usb drives and cd roms. This helps save space and increases performance of user's desktop. Q12) What is the default maximum caching time for offline desktop ? The default maximum cache life is 7 days but we can choose to change this number to a higher number of days. This setting can be changed when you login to your view administrator via browser - desktops and pools - global policies - offline desktop policies - edit - change the number of days Q13) What is the purpose of the cache lifetime setting for the offline desktop ? The data on each offline system is encrypted and has a cache lifetime controlled through policy, if the client loses contact with the View Connection Server, the cache lifetime is the period in which the user can continue to use the desktop before they are refused access; this countdown is reset once the connection is re-established. Yes, we can now add odd number VCPU to our virtual machines. Q2) What is the limitation for configuring VMware Fault Tolerance for a virtual machine ? Virtual machine selected for VMware FT must be provisioned with thick disk and not thin disk, if it was provisioned with thin disk, there will be a prompt to inflate the existing disk size. Q3) What is the disadvantage of configuring VM direct path I/O for a virtual machine ? If we configured VM direct path I/O, the virtual machine gains significant performance improvement as it is provided direct access through the adapter, however, it loses it's virtualization features and the adapter cannot be used by other virtual machines. Q4) Does vSphere provide support for the currently version of VMware Site Recovery Manage version 1.0 ? vSphere has does not support SRM version 1.0 at this present moment. Q5) What is the benefit of using a Distributed vSwitch as compared to a Standard vSwitch ? With a distributed virtual switch, the network statistics and policies of the virtual machine that has been vmotion to another ESX Server will migrate with the VM. This provides the ability for network vmotion and is useful for implementing inline intrusion detection systems and firewalls. Q6) Does ESX 4 and ESXi 4 support jumbo frames and TSO ? Yes, both ESX 4 and ESXi 4 provides support for jumbo frames as well as TSO, these can now be configured in the GUI as compared to VI3 where administrators could only do it via command lines. Q7) What is the different between VMware Data Protection as compared to the traditional VMware Consolidated Backup ? VMware Data Protection supports all storage architecture for backup and restore via LAN and SAN. It also supports full, incremental and differential file level backup options. Q8) What is the key driving factor for users adopting VMware vCenter Data Recovery ? It's an API that runs in a virtual machine within your vCenter, it provides agentless backup and can backup virtual machines even when they are being vmotion to a different host. Q9) Can we perform Storage Vmotion now via the GUI inside vCenter ? Yes, Storage Vmotion feature is now avaliable in the vSphere Client connected to vCenter Server. It provides full support for FC SAN and NFS. Q10) When using vCenter Linked Mode feature, what are the functions that could be shared among the vCenters in this link ? vCenter Linked Mode allows administrator to centrally manage all the vCenter within a single view, roles and licenses can be shared across the vCenters configured in a link. Q11) Do I still require a Flexnet License Server if all my ESX Servers are ESX 4 and ESXi 4 ? No, you no longer require a license server for the to manage the new ESX Servers. All licenses are managed within the vCenter Server. Q12) If my customer has a hybrid environment where they still have ESX 3 and ESX 3.5, can vCenter communicate with the existing Flexnet License Server ? Yes, vCenter can communicate with existing license servers so as to allow it to manage legacy ESX Servers. vCenter will pull the licenses for legacy hosts from the flexnet license server. Q13) Why am I unable to hot add CPU and memory to virtual machine ? You are required to enable this function under the virtual machine settings in order to use it. Therefore, it is advisable to enable it before you start your virtual machine for the very first time. Q14) Is it true we can now use the new VMware Update Manager to upgrade our legacy ESX Servers (For example: ESX 3.5) to ESX 4.0 version ? Yes, the new VUM has the ability to upgrade your legacy ESX Server hosts for you. However, if you are upgrading a standalone host, you will be required to power off all virtual machines running on that host. Paravirtualization is a virtualization technique that presents a software interface to virtual machines that is similar but not identical to that of the underlying hardware. An example would be after the installation of VMware Tools, under your device manager in your Windows Guest OS, you will see a Vmxnet network driver. Q2) What do they mean by using PAM ? Pluggable Authentication Module (PAM) is a security module usually found in Unix systems, it resides inside the Service Console and if we need to use it, we can activate PAM via command line. Q3) Why is it a must to place our boot disk on a local storage for MSCS ? Firstly, if your boot disks, quorum and shared disks are all on the SAN if SAN connectivity fails, the Active node can become confused about what has occurred. From a troubleshooting perspective it is easier if local storage is used. Secondly, time-out values in the Windows registry and latency on the SAN fabric could cause unnecessary triggering of node fail-over. Lastly if your boot disks are on SAN, both VMware and Microsoft will not provide support to you in the event if something happens to the virtual machine. Q4) What is the purpose of the logger command ? The logger command is used primarily in shell programs to write to log files. Can be useful for testing entries placed in /etc/syslog.conf Q5) What is the key difference between VMware HA and Microsoft Clustering ? VMware HA is a restart of virtual machines and services are restarted, whereas, even though MCSC does have minimal downtime, MCSC is still an application failover. Therefore, for critical virtual machines that we want to ensure maximum uptime, we should protect them with MCSC. Q6) When using "mountvm" command to store a single file, which 2gb file to choose ? When using the mountvm command, we will mount the first scsi disk for example "mountvm -d c:\Backups\VM_name\scsi0-0-0.vmdk -cycleId c:\Backups\Mount_Point_Name" it will create a mount point to the full VM backup and you can copy the files out from the mounted location. When you run the unmount command "mountvm -u Mount_Point_Name" it will delete the mount points created. Q7) Can we set multiple das.isolationaddress for VMware HA ? Yes, we can set a maximum of up to 10 isolation address for VMware HA under the Advance Setting tab in a VMware HA configuration. Ensure you change the default detection time to 20 secs of greater as the more isolation addresses, the longer we should put the timeout to ensure proper failure detection can occur. Q8) Can we use host file to configure a VMware HA 2nd service console ? Yes, we can execute "nano -w /etc/hosts" then add in "10.1.76.51 hb-oxygen01" where you enter the IP address of your own host 2nd service console and heart beat - your hostname. Q9) In VMware HA advance setting, why is there no das.isolationaddress1 ? This is the standard convention das.isolationaddress (This is the address of your secondary service console) and das.isolationaddress2 (This is the address of your partner's host secondary service console) Q10) When doing VCB full VM backup, is there compression and thin disk provisioning ? No, when doing full VM backup using VCB, if you have a 30GB VM even if you are only using 15GB, it will still backup all the 30GB and it does not do compression. Q11) What is the command to check if an individual HBA is loaded ? We can run this command "esxcfg-module -g qla2300_707_vmw" where qla2300 is the qlogic adapter name and it will show you if this driver is enabled or disabled. Q12) When using browser access to access our Virtual Center, ESX Server and Virtual Machine, what port must we enable ? We have to ensure that port 443 is open as it utilizes https. Q13) If I have an existing VMFS LUN and I extend the LUN on the SAN Storage side, will it be reflected inside my VI Client into the ESX host ? No, it will not be reflected. However, this method is possible and the workaround is that after extending the LUN </itunes:summary><description>Q1) What is paravirtualization ?

Yes, it will be recalled correctly. However, if we attached the shortcut as an attachment, the recipient receives a shortcut and will require access to the sender's archive in order to open it. 2) What is the size on disk of Symantec EV 8 after installation ? The size is about 418 mb, slightly lesser than 500 mb after installation. This includes installation of EV 8 and admin console. 3) Can we have multiple EV Servers target the same Exchange Server ? Yes, but the mailboxes can't be common. If for example we have 100 mailboxes, we can do 50 on each EV Server but this type of configuration is often complex and prone to misconfiguration errors. 4) Can there be interaction between OWA Client and EV Server with OWA 2007 installed ? Yes, when the client sees the EV pages (Archive Explorer, Search and ViewMessage.asp) in the browser. 5) What changes the way EV Extensions integrate with Exchange 2007 as compared to Exchange 2000 and 2003 ? Control files are not amend, no virtual directories are created and configured in IIS, no form registrations are performed and proxy bypass list is not modified. 6) How are binary files such as jpg, gif, bitmap and files larger than 50 mb indexed ? These files are not indexed, however, the attributes (metadata) of these files are indexed to facilitate search and restore. 7) Why am I not given the option to create a mailbox when I am creating a user in Active Directory and running Exchange 2007 ? With Exchange 2007, the user mailboxes can only be created via the Exchange 2007 recipient and create mailbox option. 8) When I run the provisioning task in report mode, it shows 5 mailbox synchronized but when I run in report mode it shows no mailbox successfully synchronized ? The mailboxes are only successfully synchronized the Exchange Archiving Task is run and not the provisioning task. 9) Would you recommend a full backup when upgrading from EV 7.5 to EV 8 ? Yes, a full backup is recommended before an upgrade as there are many changes and enhancements such as vault store group, vault cache and desktop policies, definitely there will be changes made to the databases. In the event of a failure, you can restore from your backup. 10) What is the primary difference between primary and non-primary file groups for the finger print database ? The ‘Primary SQL File Group’ houses the system tables, stored procedures and views. The ‘SIS Data Locations’ house the actual fingerprint data for the Fingerprint Database, which is expected to grow very rapidly. 32 ‘Non-primary File Groups’ (each containing 1 file) are created, spread across the locations provided by the user as evenly as possible, and initially as small as possible. Therefore, a maximum of 32 locations can be entered in total (at 1 file group per location) Whether it extends automatically or not depends on whether autogrowth is allowed or not. Refer to this "Difference Between Filegroups" for more information. 11) What is the main purpose of a vault store group and the finger print database ? The main purpose of a vault store group is for the use of optimized single instance storage (OSIS) and each vault store group has it's own finger print database which contains the metadata for all the SIS sharable parts of the archives in the respective vault stores within a single vault store group. 12) Why do we have to use the netbios name instead of the fully qualified domain name when entering the database, for example dc-sqlmanager\sqlserver ? It is recommended to use the netbios name instead of the fqdn as this is safer, if we were to use the fqdn and there is a problem with the dns server, the name may not resolve. 13) If I have 6 Exchange 2007 servers in my environment, on which server should I install the OWA client for Exchange 2007 ? You have install the EV OWA Client (64 or 32 bit) o</itunes:summary><description>Symantec Enterprise Vault 8 Frequently Asked Questions

Frame/packet forwarding, firewall, NAT/PAT and VPN. 2) Describe the components that comprise the ScreenOS security architecture. Interfaces, Zones, VRs, Policies, VSYS 3) Describe the basic IP packet processing sequence in a Juniper Networks security gateway. Basic sequence: Session, destination, lookup and policy. 4) How is a Juniper Networks appliance different from a system? Appliance supports only 1 VSYS, suitable for SMB and System supports multiple VSYS, suitable for large enterprises and ISP. 5) When and how is a self IP address used on a Juniper Networks device? Self IP Address is used by juniper device to source a load request to the TFTP server, it is applied on E1 or Trust interface. (Used in boot mode recovery) 6) What is the major difference between performing a ScreenOS software upgrade from the CLI and from the Browser UI? Cli upgrade will write the validated file to flash memory, in order to load the file from memory to RAM, a reset of the system is necessary. Whereas, Browser UI upgrade only requires us to reconnect the device. (CLI shows the process and we must reload the software manually, the Browser UI is transparent and reloads automatically.) 7) In Layer 3 mode, what packet information does the device use to make forwarding decisions? In L3 mode, the device uses destination IP to make forwarding decisions. 8)List three commands you can use to validate routing configuration. Get route IP address, trace-route and ping commands can be used to validate routing configurations. 9) When using interface-based NAT, to which address is the source address translated? The source address is translated to the outbound interface. 10) What are the limitations of interface-based NAT? You cannot use any created zones with interface-based NAT. Interface-based NAT only works in the predefined Untrust zone. 11) What are the basic components of a policy? Address, Service, Action are the basic components of a policy. 12) What is the default action for every policy set? The default action for every policy set is deny all. 13) What are some common policy misconfigurations? Ordering, name and address mismatch and group membership are common policy misconfigurations. 14) Which advanced feature displays session duration information? Logging displays session duration information. (Use the “get session” command to get traffic logs which shows the duration and session translation.) 15) Which advanced feature displays usage per policy over time? Counter display usage per policy over time. (Traffic counter is able to show graphical representation of usage (byte per sec) that matches the policy.) 16) How can you tell if a policy has an associated schedule? If a policy is disabled, you can tell it has an associated schedule by the gray background in CLI. If it is enabled, the only way to tell is to look at policy details. 17) Explain the difference between firewall authentication and Browser Auth authentication. Firewall authentication requires traffic to match the policy to trigger login dialog. Policy must permit telnet, FTP or http. Browser Auth requires user to browse to delicate IP address on the juniper device to trigger login dialog. 18) When configuring NAT-src, is a DIP address pool required? No, a DIP pool is not required when configuring NAT-src. 19) In which mode must the ingress interface be for policy-based NAT operation? The ingress interface does not have to be in any particular mode for policy-based NAT operation – policy-based NAT overrides the interface setting. 20) How many IP addresses can you configure in a DIP address pool? How many IP addresses we can configure in a DIP address pool depends on the subnet mask for the DIP address. (4 – 252) 21) How do you translate all traffic to a single outbound address that is not the interface address? We can create a DIP address with one address. 22) What are the four basic options for NAT-dst? One to one, many to one,</itunes:summary><description>1) Name four functions that a security gateway can perform.

Frame/packet forwarding, firewall, NAT/PAT and VPN.
