MuggLab.com was one of the first Mighty Muggs websites I found when I started getting serious about collecting Mighty Muggs. The site is chock full of great info on the various Mighty Mugg lines, as well as covering the world of customs Mighty Muggs.

Now, to help fund the continuing efforts of the website, Dr. Mugg is organizing a fundraiser sale on eBay of some excellent custom Muggs, created by some of the coolest Mugg artists going around. Check out the eBay listings here, and place a bid on something you like!

No News Is …

Good news? Hardly. No news here for quite some time simply means I’ve been too slack, too busy and too distracted. But you know what it’s like … you go through periods of time in your life when one thing seems to dominate, and then that season passes and you have time to focus on other things for a while. Life for me this year has been a bit of a paradox. I’ve had regular, steady work in my IT consulting day job, which has meant a level of stability that I haven’t had for many years.

You’d think then I would have had plenty of stress-free time to spend on the things that this site is all about. You’d think that wouldn’t you? I would, yet I find that it’s been months since I’ve posted anything new, or even kept up with adding info of new toys in my collection! I mean, I got some cool Indiana Jones toys for Father’s Day, more Mighty Muggs (including the awesome SDCC ‘09 Wolverine with retractable claws!), plus some cool collectible vinyl toys from a recent work trip to LA. But alas, they have been placed in the collection, but not talked about much since.

So it’s with that in mind that I look forward to writing some new material here shortly, and getting back some time in my schedule for the little plastic things in life that make me smile.

New Marvel Universe Mighty Muggs Confirmed at SDCC’09

Seems that Marvel Mighty Muggs had the run of Hasbro’s Mighty Muggs display at last weekend’s Comic-Con 2009 in San Diego. More specifically, a re-launching of the Marvel Universe waves (reportedly up to 3 new waves of figures), including some new characters such as Warhammer, Juggernaut, Deadpool and another Wolverine (that makes 4 versions now!). There are some great pics over on The Blot of these guys, and some shots on ToyArk.com also show the hooded version of Spiderman on display as well.

I’m so happy to know that more Mighty Muggs are planned. Even though some of the lines have been discontinued, the popular Star Wars and Marvel lines look like being in good shape for a bit longer at least.

New Paper Toy from Inavatof

Thomas over at Inavatof has released a new paper toy for free download – The Vendor. This is a character that Thomas developed as part of a short comic a little while ago, and it’s nice to see the hairy ice-cream-wielding ape take on another life.

Quick tip when making this one – try using double-sided tape instead of glue, especially if using a heavier paper or card as I do, as some of the curves are a little hard to stick with glue.

The Empire Muggs Back!

A friend of mine alerted me to this story – seems the StarWars.com folks have got a fundraiser on for Make a Wish Foundation, auctioning a range of custom-made Mighty Muggs from prominent artists. Called “The Empire Muggs Back“, the exhibition and auction will take place at San Diego Comic Con, but we’re told to keep watching StarWars.com for “in-depth Empire Muggs Back coverage, info on the online charity auction, Mighty Mugg crafting tips and artist profiles.” Can’t wait!

Via StarWarsBlog: There are a lot of things that people called Michael Jackson throughout his life, but I don’t remember “pinball wizard” being one of them. Check out this interactive panorama (from Pinsane.com) of Michael Jackson’s personal “entertainment arcade” – it’s a mind-blowing combination of video game arcade and pop culture museum (lovin’ the Star Wars, DC and Marvel influences here). Ahh to have a kazillion dollars …

Millennium Falcon Paper Model available for download

A friend of mine found this on some Japanese site called Biglobe (anyone know it?) – it’s a pretty rockin’ paper model for the Millennium Falcon. I can’t read Japanese, and the model itself doesn’t have any clear design credits (in English anyway), so if the creator if this is out there somewhere and wants to touch base, I’d gladly let everyone know. I haven’t made the model up yet cause I’ve used up all my good paper-toy card on a recent batch of Cubees, but rest assured once I do get this sucker made, you’ll be reading about it here! You can download individual pages from the Japanese source site here, or otherwise you can get a combined PDF that I created from here.

Comic Con 2009 Exclusives List

Via The Blot: The Comic-Con 2009 Exclusives list has been published, containing pictures and descriptions of every exclusive item available at this year’s conference. There’s some very cool items even beyond my own particular interests, and really makes me wish I was living in California right now Some highlights for me include:

Vegetables That Cannot Die

Ghostbusters Cubee paper craft toys now available

When there’s paper toys, that gotta get made … Who ya gonna call? Cubeecraft! Now available for download are Peter Venkman (Bill Murray), Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis), Ray Stantz (Dan Ackroyd) and Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson). I LOVED this movie when I was young and taught myself how to draw the Ghostbusters logo so I could plaster it all over my school books. Grab the Ghostbusters Cubeecraft series here, including the older Mr Stay Puft model from a while back.

SDCC ‘09 Exclusive Wolverine Mighty Muggs (featuring retractable claws!)

A little while back we heard the news of a metallic finished Optimus Prime Mighty Mugg release for SDCC this year, but were expecting at least one other as well.

Today, images have started circulating of the newly announced companion to the Transformers re-release – it’s an X-Men Origins movie version of Wolverine – complete with retractable claws!

Being an Aussie I have no problems with the Hugh Jackman styled design, which I think they have nailed very well. From the side of the box shot here I think there may be some classic “Wolverine scratches” across the artwork around the back.

Overall a pretty cool choice for an exclusive I reckon, and I’m glad to see that there’s life still in the Mighty Muggs brand. Rumours still circulate about a new Transformers line “Revenge of the Fallen” themed Mighty Muggs, but no confirmation on that front as yet.

As I won’t be making it to SDCC this year (just to clarify – I’ve never been to any SDCC’s at all, but there’s always hope!) I’ll be pinning my chances of picking up this Wolverine through either eBay or perhaps an online retailer who starts stocking them after the conference. Out of the 4 SDCC exclusive Mighty Muggs released so far (Commander Gree, Fertility Idol, Peter Parker, Iron Man), I’ve picked up two from online retailers in Australia (Gree, Idol) and hope to one day buy the others without having to sell a kidney.

A (very talented) friend of mine today directed me to a website that he has been contributing to with some custom paper toy designs – NicePaperToys.com. It’s kind of like a DeviantArt site for paper toy designers and artists. Well worth checking out to find some cool new toys to make, and getting involved if you’d like to share in the community and networking aspect of the site. By the way, my friend Thomas of Inavatof has developed some pretty cool characters (one of my favourites being Bad Carrot). Check it out!

I’ve bought Mighty Muggs from quite a few online sources now, and one of them has been Yogee.com.au. They have a pretty good selection of the Star Wars, Indiana Jones and Transformers lines at the moment, but they’re also running a special offer until June 30 – buy 3 Mighty Muggs and you’ll receive a randomly selected 4th Mugg for free. Mighty Muggs Alert: Star Wars Wave 8

I know this has been a bit of a Mighty Muggs site recently (when I have had the chance to post – which unfortunately hasn’t been that often!) but hey, it IS what I’m collecting a lot of at the moment. I’ve actually had a bit of a break from any mass purchases, but the pocket money has been building, and yesterday I saw that my favourite online shop Saga Central had received their shipment of Waves 8 & 9 of the Star Wars Mighty Muggs lines. So out came the fantastic plastic and Wave 8 should hopefully be arriving at the man-cave here fairly soon. Included in Wave 8 (as picture above) is Wicket (the Ewok), Qui Gon Jin, Imperial Guard and the Wampa. I’m most excited about Imperial Guard, as I had this guy as an original action figure when I was a kid and he was one of my favourites. Something about the long mask and robe that was just always so cool.
