Nomad Wheelchairs. Hearts and hands go out to those who spend time in one of these, for whatever reason. And massive props to Mark Owen for taking big steps and re-thinking how mobility products can also look and work better.

nomad is a young, innovative lightweight wheelchair manufacturer born out of the frustration and motivation of a very determined wheelchair user. After more than a decade in various wheelchairs, nomad director Mark Owen was no longer willing to accept the uninspiring designs on offer and set about trying to improve things.

This is an astounding, beautiful and rewarding use of 3 1/2 minutes.

Chris Tootell, an animator for “The Corpse Bride” and Neil Gaiman’s new “Coraline”, made this stop-motion video clip for the song “Flicker” by Paper Beats Scissors in his apartment as an after-hours project.

He used a Canon DSLR, some nice lighting, a brilliant eye and a whole lot of time. Very often, that’s all you need.

It’s a slow start but give it time.

It’s all stop motion with time lapse vfx. Pretty much all done in camera with 30 second exposures.

Obama’s newspaper industry bailout isn’t one

Looking at my post 2009-trip bank balance tells me I’m no economist. Hell, it’s lucky I’m still not working otherwise I’d probably be trading insolvent. So I won’t comment on the validity or necessity of a US news industry bailout, but this quote:

The president said he is “happy to look at” bills before Congress that would give struggling news organizations tax breaks if they were to restructure as nonprofit businesses.

Made me laugh.

Let me get this straight: if a newspaper business re-structures itself to be awarded 501(c)(3) corporation status (non-profit) then it just might receive the same tax-breaks as 501(c)(3) corporations receive. Seriously? REALLLLLY?!?!?

That’;s not a bailout, that’s x=x logic. But that is great reporting.
