rschatz on CFP: QoE Technical Session at COST Meeting Sep 20-21 2010, Zagreb

Dear QoE-interested TMA members!

Once again, we are going for a dedicated QoE-related Technical Session at the TMA COST action’s upcoming MC-Meeting in Zagreb (Sep 20-21). The session will be (again) a great opportunity for learning about each other’s current activities in the field of QoE (including STSMs) and for fostering joint activity.

By now we envisage a series of short presentations plus discussion, following a format similar to what we had in Zurich. (However, this time we’ll take care of a more relaxed pace that allows for going more in-depth, leaving sufficient breathing space for the discussion part ). In order to facilitate planning and get a rough idea about the amount and nature of participation, I ask you to briefly send a mail to schatz(AT)ftw.at with the following infos:

1) Do you plan to attend the session? (if not: somebody else from your institution?)

2) If yes, do you want to give a presentation about your (group’s) QoE-related activities?

3) If yes, what will be the nature/content of your presentation?

Ideas so far are: Institutional Overview [IO], Technical Presentation [TP], STSM, or a combination of them.

4) What is your preferred scheduling of the QoE session?

Options: a) Mo Morning, b) Mo Afternoon, c) Tu Morning

5) Do you have any further questions, comments or suggestions?

Since the holiday season is approaching at the speed of light with planning activities more and more urgent, I ask all people interested in attending/presenting for a quick reply/mail to schatz(AT)ftw.at until Thu June 24th ! (sorry for the short notice)

Thank you for your input and see you in Zagreb, Raimund Schatz

Welcome everybody!

I would like to open the discussion on Testing Methodologies & Metrics with the following question:

Imagine that we agree to share subjective testing data (e.g. user ratings and network traces from Web QoE user studies) for analysis and comparison. What would you consider the TOP 5 requirements that need to be fulfilled so that the data exchanged is useful to you?

Best regards, Sebastian

This Special Interest Group (SIG) deals with topics such as QoE models, metrics, test methods and frameworks in the context of traffic monitoring and analysis (TMA). It aims to:

Identify research opportunities that emerge from connecting the fields of TMA and QoE,

Adress common research topics, and

Foster collaboration and exchange of QoE-related know-how among SIG participants.

For more information please visit the related QoE topic page.

Furthermore, we are going to kick off some discussion of SIG-related technical and organisational topics and hope for your enthusiastic participation!

Yours,

Dear Researchers interested in Bandwidth estimation,

according to our discussion in Barcelona, we should have a 1-2 hour Telco to set up collaborative actions. I have created a Doodle poll for this. Please use this link to provide information on your availability. Please also upload your slides to the portal.

Alberto,

that is a great idea. At this point it should be clear to anyone that reference tools & data are a necessity for this research to progress.

My GTVS tool was an attempt to fill one gap and TIE comes at hand too. However, additional work is definitely needed.

This week the folks at ipoque have open sourced part of their DPI engine. I think this establishes a base comparison point from now on. Check the tool out at http://opendpi.org/

Dear Alberto and all,

UPC is also very interested in joining such an interesting SIG. We are working on several topics related to this area and, in particular, we are currently studying the impact of sampling on traffic classification and the application identification problem using NetFlow data. Therefore, we have some NetFlow labeled traces that could be used in the framework of this new SIG.

Obviously, we will assist to the Barcelona meeting where all these topics could be discussed.
