Treasure Island is the place to be October 10^th, as Lodi Wine Country brings their best selection to the San Francisco Bay. The second annual Treasure Island WineFest will feature over 45 Lodi wineries and 200 unique wines, but that’s not all… Sample wine country appetizers and the finest selection of artisan vendors, take in a guided wine tasting seminar or lounge bayside to live acoustic music. Of course, don’t miss the best views of Fleet Week aerial shows, as the Blue Angels showcase their talent during the event. The Treasure Island WineFest is the only wine tasting that pairs the best of flights in the air with flights in your glass!

Save the date to share an afternoon with the vintners and growers behind California’s hidden jewel – Lodi Wine Country. Tickets will be $55 in advance or $65 at the door and available for purchase August 2010.

That’s right!  Get ready to marvel at the talents of 26 year old Jackie Vierra , a graduate of the Academy of Arts University in San Francisco and a Lodi vintner, who has taken the lead in capturing the interest of Bay Area residents by creating the festival entry piece - a Led Zeppelin-esque painted piano.

The piano was rescued from a warehouse in Lodi and transported to Vierra’s family winery in Acampo. Jackie worked her magic to give the piano new energy and has now handed it over to winegrowers Joe and Sherri Cotta. The Cotta’s will load it up on their ’62 pickup and haul it over to Treasure Island!

While Joe Cotta is the featured pianist, he’ll share the stage with four other talented friends.

Lodi is a town full of homegrown treasures; our wines, vintners, gourmet food purveyors and artists!

We are pleased to announce that Lodi’s Knowlton Gallery will be at the Treasure Island WineFest displaying several original paintings depicting the Lodi landscape and way of life. A few of Lodi’s gifted plein air artists will paint live at the event!

Stop by and see Juan Pena, an avid practitioner and advocate of transparent water color, who will set up on the island to capture the beauty of the day on canvas. Pena has studied under such greats as Vernon Nye, Thomas Leighton and Jade Fon Woo. In the 1960′s, Pena began on-location pencil drawings and has been painting plein air ever since. His paintings demonstrate a moment in time and the work pops with enthusiasm for his subject.

Another very talented plein air artist, Ann McMillan, studies the interaction of light and color in the tradition of California Impressionism. McMillan’s pieces reflect the vibrancy of nature and her love of close observation of the landscape. Her recent work emphasizes the intensity and subtlety of sun and shadow. Watch in amazement as she captures the scenes at the Treasure Island WineFest in the San Francisco Bay.

3:00 p.m. – Lodi Rules – Focus on Sustainability
Learn more about Lodi’s commitment to Sustainable Winegrowing with a discussion of the Lodi Rules – California’s first third party certified sustainable winegrowing program. Enjoy interactive discussions and a tasting of certified  Lodi Rules wines.

4:00 p.m. – Blockbuster Zins of Lodi
A perennial favorite! Lodi Zins continue to wow judges at competitions across the country. Learn the spectrum of flavors and styles from big to bigger, as demonstrated by a collection of Lodi’s top gold medal winning wines.

Summer has come to an end and the harvest season in Lodi Wine Country is well underway.  Our local vintners and growers are ready to celebrate the wrap up of the 2009 crush at the Treasure Island WineFest!

We’re heading on the road and ready to set up shop in the middle of the beautiful San Francisco Bay! We are thrilled to be sharing our hidden treasures in a refreshing and exciting venue. Don’t get us wrong… we love being in our hometown nestled amongst the expansive grapevines. But every now and then, it’s time to pack up and head out of town.

We’re heading west and bringing the best of our backyard to you! We’ve got our hand crafted wines packed and have even thrown in some cheese and olive oil for fun….can’t wait to see you on October 11th!

Harvest is an incredibly busy time for Lodi’s bustling wine industry. So, if you plan to visit Lodi Wine Country, be on the lookout for harvesters and tractors barreling down the road. It is truly a magical experience to watch the transformation of our local landscape.
