Paaritunniste seminaride käigus tuleb juttu mikroskeemidest, MIDI-st, tinutamisest, jootmisest ning kuidas see kõik musategemisega kokku käib. Ja mitte ei tule ainult juttu, vaid läheb reaalselt ka ehitamiseks.

Alustasin selle kallal tööd 2009nda aasta sügisel, kui kohtusin Ingrid Kohtlaga (hetkel vedamas muusikaedetabelisaadet Eesti Top7). Panime esialgse kondikava koos paika ning edasine on juba ajalugu.

Sisukas ja kaasahaarav, näited asjakohased, pisut familiaarne kõnepruuk lõi lugejaga isikliku sideme ja motiveeris kaasa mõtlema, valitud teemaring igati asjakohane.

Uue kogumiku näol on tegemist kõigi olulisemate muusikatööstuse ja -ettevõtlusega seotud teemade tiheda kontsentraadiga.

Update: Rada7 raamatud on läbi müüdud. Edaspidi saab osta internetis TEEMA veebipoest, Tallinnas baaris Levist Väljas, Rakvere Teatri Kohvikus ning ka otse (hind sõltub saatmisviisist – 8eur maksikirjaga, 10eur Smartpostiga).

PS: Esmatähtis on ikkagi muusika – ilma hea musata on turundustööst vähe kasu.

See ei tähenda aga, et ma muusikast eemal oleks.

Olen endiselt seotud Estosterooni korraldamisega Von Krahlis ning mängin seal ka plaate. Laividega aga ilmselt selle aasta sees enam üles ei astu.

Peale selle on sügisesse ja talve algusesse planeeritud projekt “Isetegevus Muusikas”, mis sai toetust läbi Euroopa Ühenduse programmi Euroopa Noored. Sellest lähemalt juba õige pea.

Järgmisena ilmub aga EP “Äriasjad”, millega koos tuleb ka raamat “Äriasjad ehk Sissejuhatus Muusikaturundusse”. Seda siis juba 16ndal septembril (Estosterooni raames). Pikemalt järgmises postituses.

Kas me ei ole piisavalt uhked enda muusika ja keele üle või tehakse head muusikat lihtsalt liiga vähe?

Plaatide müük näitab, et tavaliselt domineerivad Eesti plaadid, samas on klubides ja raadiotes olukord vastupidine.

Siit tekib omakorda küsimus, et mis mõtet on üldse meie enda keelel ja kultuuril, kui me seda ei toeta? Eriti nii väikese riigi nagu Eesti puhul, mis on niigi omamoodi luksus.

Teine pool on muidugi selles, et kas me eestlastena saame üldse väita, nagu me saaks aru välismaise muusika kultuurilisest kontekstist (eriti laulusõnade puhul). Enda puhul ma küll seda teha ei saa. Iga gizzy-grizzly räppar ajab täiesti oma rida sõltuvalt asukohast ja kohati on päris keeruline (kui mitte võimatu) jälgida, millest jutt käib.

Seoses sellega otsustasin teoks teha pikemat aega peas küpsenud mõtte.

Sel neljapäeval käivitub Von Krahli Teatri baaris uus peosari Estosteroon. 100% eesti muusika – nii laivis kui plaatide pealt.

Laiviga teeb otsa lahti Orelipoiss ehk Jaan Pehk – teda on toetamas Tapecut didgeridool. Kinkymint seevastu on nii DJ kui laivi eest (elektro, techno, hiphop).

DJ nimekiri on järgmine:

• Tõnis Kahu – alati huvitavat ja head muusikat kriitilisest vaatepunktist
• Marju Marynel Kuut – soul’i diiva toob kaasa lugusid, mida isegi Kahu ei tea
• Enn Tiidumaa – house, ambient, klassikaline

So, here’s a short overview on how to do it in Windows Vista:

1. Download the User Remote Script (korgnano_live.zip) – originally provided by Create Digital Music
2. Unzip the UserConfiguration.txt to
   C:\Users\[YOUR USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\Ableton\Live [VERSION NUMBER]\Preferences]\User Remote Scripts\nanoKONTROL\
3. Connect your Korg nanoKONTROL to your computer
4. Go to Control Panel > System > Device Manager
5. Under “Sound, video and game controllers” you should see Korg nanoKONTROL. Right click on it and select Properties.
6. Under the “General” tab you should a line that says something like “Location: Port_#0001.Hub_#0002” (see the picture below). This means your Korg nanoKONTROL is connected to your computer via USB port number 1.
7. Now open up the UserConfiguration.txt and add the following line there: ControllerName: 1
8. Start (or restart) your Ableton Live! and open up Preferences > MIDI / Sync
9. Make sure you select Korg nanoKONTROL as the Control Surface (and both for Input and Output) and Track and Remote for MIDI ports (see the picture below).

…and you’re done

Now you can start midi mapping the nanoKontrol. It’s also possible to use templates I guess but I personally like to customize from scratch. The same process works for Korg nanoPAD as well.

Remember that you should change the “ControllerName” variable every time you connect your nanoKONTROL via different USB port.

I visited Barcelona in May last year and got a proper skin burn (before going to Morocco haha) but loved the city nevertheless. As far as I’ve heard everyone who have been there wants to go back so I’m no exception.

One of the places I visited in Barcelona was Antonio Gaudi’s park. The architecture of Gaudi is just plain right amazing. With some fairly simple adjustments he can make an office building look like a spaceship (not to mention Sagrada Familia).

The park itself is a fairyland:

While standing on the hill (there in the park), watching the cityscape I heard some divine music from down below. I went to check it out and found a man playing something that looked like an iron pot.

It turned out that the pot is called hang – a relatively new instrument (~10 years old) from Switzerland. Hang players prefer to call it a sound sculpture (not a drum) which makes perfect sense to me.

In the autumn I started working on a new untitled track. I needed some percussion and was introduced to a guy called Mattias Siitan. I think there are only a couple hang players in Estonia and Mattias is one of them. I was really lucky to find him.

You can see the demographics of your fans (very helpful when planning a campaign) and friends, Trends over time (such as song plays, friends and profile views), song statistics (apparently the 1st song in the playlist is not always the most popular), blog statistics and visitor maps.

I used to rely on NextBigSound a bit for analytics and will continue to do so (as my activities are scattered around the internet) but I think it’s great that MySpace shows at least some innovation. BTW: they recently bought Imeem as well (although I haven’t figured out the reason yet).

The second good news is about Facebook. There have been talks about customized (targeted) updates for at least half a year now.

Today I noticed that when I update my status for my artist page I can target the update by country and/or language:

That’s great news! It solves the problem of sending updates in Estonian to my London fans for example.

Actually let me rephrase it – it’s huge. If this feature rolls out to personal profiles as well then people can finally separate their professional and personal life. These two tend to overlap in social networks.

Would you really like to update your professional contacts about another morning in the toilet after a Friday night?
