(Sturgeon Bay, WI) June 15, 2013 Results- As the green flag flew for the first feature of the night the skies opened and action was halted. The staff knew once the rain started it wasn’t going to stop and the races were cancelled at Thunderhill Raceway. All qualifying races had been complete which constitutes a complete show per the rule book. All drivers received equal pay and points for the night. Huge thanks to all the drivers who did their best in helping us get the show in.

The Egg Harbor Fun Park go-karts saw their first action as three lucky fans raced their dirt track heroes on the oval go-kart track that lies within the infield of the track. In competition Morgan Serveys upset Dave Bouche in a 4 lap dash, Bradley Skippon bested Kelsy Hayes and Brayden LeMieux made short work of Randy LeMieux Jr. en route to victory.

The go-kart races are something we are hoping to do on a weekly basis, with a maximum of 3 children per night. Right now drivers must be 4’ or taller to register. We are working on ideas to get the shorter children a chance to race as well. We’ve also thrown around ideas to do a raffle for a race at the end of the night, all money raised would be donated to DOOR CANcer. For now you can get a ticket for your children at the ticket booth after the first heat race has started not before as we want to let fans in the stands first so we don’t mess up the ticket line.

Next Saturday June 22 we hope to finally be in Mother Natures good graces as we set to remember long time Thunderhill supporter and race fan Terry Simon. The night will feature driver introduction in the Kelsey Racing IMCA Modifieds and everyone will receive free popcorn.

(Sturgeon Bay, WI) June 12, 2013- Week 4 preview at Thunderhill Raceway which features $1 Coors Light the entire night with a paid admission this Saturday June 15. We are looking for our first entries for the Spectator Eliminator. Rules are very simple…must have helmet, paid pit pass, street-able vehicle no “race cars“, 18yrs or older. Driver doesn’t need valid drivers licenses but must have ID. You race after the final feature of the night. The winner gets a nice trophy for victory! Great chance to get out on the “Circle of Death” and get your adrenaline fix without all the expenses of a race car.

Egg Harbor Fun Park has been gracious enough to lend Thunderhill a few Go-Karts and the plan is to choose 3 kids names, let those kids choose their favorite racer and let them race on the Go-Kart track at intermission. “Were currently working out all the details for ages that will be eligible to race. More importantly our goal is to give the kids a memory of a lifetime in racing their dirt track hero.” stated Woody. We’ve also thought about having race fans pay a small fee to race their favorite driver at the end of the night and all money raised to will go to our DOOR CANcer account and will be used to help local families fighting Cancer.

Eagles Inside Track…

The Stock Cars saw the return of Shawn Olson. Olson raced the #52 machine of Troy Muench. At Luxemburg Speedway Muench debut his brand new Petrie Chassis IMCA Stock Car which features the John Soukup #99. Muench as well as many others have changed their car number to the 99 in memory of Soukup who lost his battle with cancer this off season. Olson is a sponsor on both Muench’s race cars which resulted in some extra seat time for the former Street Stock champ

In the Kelsey Racing IMCA Modifieds Dan Ratajczak picked up his second feature win in a row. James Tebon leads the standings by 6 points over Ratajczak. Billy LeMieux sit’s a bakers dozen behind Tebon. Greg Gretz Mods in only his second start in the Mods has already won a heat race. Gretz is the leading Rookie in the class.

Despite a hard wreck a couple weeks ago Bret Koehler found victory lane in the Bull Pen Bar IMCA Stock Cars. Dave Bouche hasn’t finished outside the top four in this early season which has vaulted him into the point lead. Opening night feature winner Shawn Havel sits second just 3 points back of Bouche. Jeremy Wiitala is third in points just 6 markers back, Luke Lemmens who has one feature to his credit sits fourth 7 points out, John Anschutz & Tom Brumlic tied are for fifth in the standings 9 points behind the leader. Last season the title came down to the final night of the season, this year looks to be the same.

Opening night feature winner Jarred VanLaanen holds the number one spot in the LaVine’s Ice IMCA Sport Mods. It’s a total free for all for the top spot with the top eight in points are only separated by 10 points. Every night for here on out will feel like the final point night for all the title contenders. Defending champ Bernie Reinhardt picked up the win last week and sits second on the standings, Randy LeMieux Jr. third, Josh Massart fourth, Chris Budzban and Dennis Miesler are tied for fifth, Kelsy Hayes seventh and Ryan LeMieux eighth.

Martin Kelsey’s bad luck in the Sport Mods has continued after running in the top five every night Martin has been caught up in late race wrecks, results haven’t matched his performance. In the Rookie battle Cody Rass holds a 3 point edge over Jacob Zellner. Rass sits tenth in the standings.

Despite being disqualified twice at Luxemburg Scott Boulanger has been perfect at Thunderhill in the Lackie Rentals IMCA Hobby Stocks with three feature wins in three nights. He leads last years runner up Derek Moede by 4 points. 2003 Hobby champ Joe Hegnet sits third 13 points out of the lead.

In the Showcase Kitchens Street Stocks Keith Kickbusch holds a slim 3 point edge over Kevin Luedtke. Last weeks winner Brandon Peterson suffered a DNF (did not finish) is back in the title hunt 10 points back. Jeremy Dubois runs fourth 11 markers behind the leader. Kickbusch and Peterson hold titles in the IMCA Hobby Stocks while Dubois holds one in the Feisty Fours. Luedtke is chasing his first title. Former Street Stock champ John Sternard was suspended for a week after having issues with Todd Wagner. This pushes Sternard out of the title contention while Wagner sits fifth.

Five divisions do battle every Saturday night through the summer. IMCA Modified, IMCA Stock Car, IMCA Northern Sport Mod, IMCA Hobby Stock and Street Stocks will compete on the 1/3rd mile clay oval. (Sturgeon Bay, WI) June 8, 2013 Results- Bret Koehler took the lead on lap 10 and kept the competition in his rearview scoring the win in the IMCA Stock Cars at Thunderhill Raceway on Wicked Witch Racing night brought to you by Northland Steel. Other feature winners were Dan Ratajczak (IMCA Modified), Bernie Reinhardt (IMCA Sport Mod), Scott Boulanger (IMCA Hobby Stock) and Brandon Peterson (Street Stock).

Next Saturday Coors Light will be the title sponsor and will offer $1 a beer for the night with a paid wristband. Spectator Eliminator is slated to race and we are searching for those who are brave enough to race their street vehicles on the track.

A broken thumb didn’t stop Jamie Suchocki from pacing the first 9 laps of the Bull Pen Bar & Grill IMCA Stock Car main. Bret Koehler kept pace and stalked Suchocki the first half of the race. As the midway flags flew Koehler made his move sneaking under Suchocki and to the lead. Luke Lemmens and Dave Bouche made a late race charge on Koehler. Lemmens got to the leaders back bumper that’s as far as he’d get with Koehler scoring an exciting win. Lemmens second, Bouche took third and took over the point lead, Tom Brumlic and John Anschutz completed the top five.

Bernie Reinhardt brought home the top spot in the IMCA Sport Mods with his first win of the season.

Rick LeMieux and Martin Kelsey battle for the lead early on before defending LaVine’s Ice IMCA Sport Mod champion Bernie Reinhardt slipped around Kelsey for the lead. Rick LeMieux suffered a flat tire sending cars scattering ending the night for co-point leader Kelsy Hayes who was caught up in the wreck. Reinhardt with stood all comers through several cautions going on to score a clean sweep. Jarred VanLaanen made a late race charge finishing second thus taking over the point lead, Rookie Cody Rass placed a career best third, Dennis Miesler fourth and Randy LeMieux came back for fifth after being part of a caution mid race.

Dan Ratajczak made it two wins in a row in the IMCA Modifieds.

Ratajczak worked past rookie Greg Gretz for the lead on the opening lap of the Kelsey Racing IMCA Modified feature. Point leader and James Tebon jumped to second and caught Ratajczak. Tebon tried several times to work his way inside for the lead but Ratajczak wouldn’t be denied scoring a clean sweep. Tebon took second for the third straight week, Gretz was third, Cory Cochart fourth and Billy LeMieux fifth.

Scott Boulanger remains undefeated with his third win in a row in the IMCA Hobby Stocks.

In the Lackie Rentals & Remodeling IMCA Hobby Stocks it was Dave Schmidt leading till lap 11 before point leader Scott Boulanger blast by down low a cruised to a comfortable win. Schmidt had to settle for second, Derek Moede third, Joe Hegnet fourth and Amber Weidner rounded out the top five.

Brandon Peterson scored a clean sweep in the Showcase Kitchens Street Stocks. Point leader Keith Kickbusch took home second place pay, Kevin Luedtke third, Marcus Moede fourth and Mike Sargent in his first run of the year took a fast fifth. Peterson dedicated the win in memory of his dad.

(Sturgeon Bay, WI) June, 6 2013 Press Release- Last week Mother Nature may have got the best of us but its not putting a stop to the $1 Bud Light and Budweiser this Saturday night June 8 at Thunderhill Raceway. The buck beer will last all night with a paid wrist band. Northland Steel of Sturgeon Bay will bring the IMCA Hobby Stocks into the spotlight with driver introductions. The Bartenders Race will be rescheduled.

With no racing the point standings stay the same which allows me to let you know more of what’s happening at The Hill with something I like to call “Eagles Inside Groove”….

Former IMCA Stock Car champion Greg Gretz of Kewaunee made his debut in the Kelsey Racing IMCA Modifieds at Thunderhill two weeks ago . Gretz is a racing a Slick Chassis built by Russ Reinwald of Juneau. The chassis burst onto the scene scoring several feature wins last season. Years ago it was common place for local drivers to buy chassis  that were built out of state, namely Iowa. Now days local racers have started their own chassis shops with great success. James Lee Tebon of Algoma finished second in the standings in 2012 at Luxemburg Speedway by only 3 points and earned his first career IMCA Modified championship at Thunderhill with a Slick Chassis, he’s currently getting his new Slick machine dialed in.

Speaking of chassis builds in Wisconsin, Kewaunee’s Luke Lemmens broke into victory lane two weeks ago in the Bull Pen Bar & Grill IMCA Stock Cars wheeling a 2013 FAST Chassis. These race cars are built by defending IMCA Stock Car champ Dave Bouche of Algoma.

3rd Generation racer Daniel Sell of Suring made his first ever laps in the Lackie Rentals IMCA Hobby Stocks for the 5th Annual NB-27 night. The Weidner Family borrowed Daniel Sell one of their race cars allowing him to get his feet wet in the sport. Daniel Sell was running well until a mechanical failure ended his maiden voyage. The late JR Sell paved the way for his son Dan to race in the IMCA Stock Car ranks in the mid 90′s while working out of the Bouche Racing shop in Algoma. Dan jumped back into Nathan’s memorial car and won his heat and placed fifth in the feature. Sells have always ran under the Ford Motorsports blue oval banner.

Full Throttle racing magazine has made its return to our local dirt tracks due to the extensive work of Bert Lehman. Lehman could be consider the center of the racing universe covering stories from tracks, drivers and local touring series. A Thunderhill Raceway article will be forth coming. Not only do you receive exclusive stories in Full Throttle, the magazine is also FREE and can be picked up at the Dan Lewis Photography trailer.

Budweiser and Bud Light will only be $1 with a paid wristband. Budweiser has been a long time supporter of the track and with everyone being on a tight budget these days, what’s better than having a few cold beers after a hard week of work for only a buck!

A special Bartenders Race will take place at the end of the night. So if you’re a bartender and you want to race. Get after your buddy who has a race car, get your pit pass, sign up at the back gate and come get your thrill at Thunderhill!

(Sturgeon Bay, WI) May 25, 2013 – “Budzo” Chris Budzban survived several late race restarts to earn his first career feature win in the IMCA Sport Mods at Thunderhill Raceway for the 5th Annual Nathan Bouche Memorial. Other feature winners were Dan Ratajczak (IMCA Modifieds), Luke Lemmens (IMCA Stock Cars), Scott Boulanger (IMCA Hobby Stocks) and Keith Kickbusch (Street Stocks). The Nathan Bouche Sportsman award went to Sturgeon Bay’s Mike Kelsey.

Ricky LeMieux’s mechanical issues moved Budzban to the first row of the feature which stuck him door to door with defending LaVine’s IMCA Sport Mod track champion Bernie Reinhardt. Both of which won their qualifying races. Budzban quickly established a sizable lead sending the field battling behind him. Cautions kept Budzban honest but when the checkers fell it was “Budzo” with a dominating performance en route to a clean sweep followed by Reinhardt, Josh Massart, Randy LeMieux Jr. and Kelsy Hayes completed the top five.

Luke Lemmens finally found some good luck leading every lap to victory in the Bull Pen Bar & Grill IMCA Stock Cars.

A 23 car starting grid brought the field to green with Lemmens sneaking by Tony Bouche for the lead on lap 1. Jeremy Wiitala worked his way to the runner up spot with a handful of laps left but a leaking right front tire ended his mount to challenge Lemmens who scored a clean sweep in his 2013 FAST Chassis Stock Car, Wiitala barely finished with his tire going down but still managed a second place. When Wiitala pulled into the infield for tech the tire had gone completely flat. Last weeks winner Shawn Havel brought home third, defending champion Dave Bouche fourth and Dan Sell driving the Nathan Bouche #27 brought home fifth and a heat race win. It was the first checker flag Nathan’s car has seen since it was rebuilt, very fitting to see it came on his night.

The “Frog Station Flash” Dan Ratajczak led every lap of the Kelsey Racing IMCA Modifieds to earn his first feature win of the season.

Defending champion James Lee Tebon gave chase the entire race but had to settle for second for the second straight week, two-time champ Jay Matthias made his first trip to the track with a solid third place, Eugene Gregorich and Billy LeMieux rounded out the top five.

Keith “The Kicker” Kickbusch capped off a stellar weekend winning in the Showcase Kitchens Street Stock feature.

Fresh off a heat race win Brandon Peterson paced the field. With the end in sight Peterson left just enough room down low and Kickbusch took advantage of it taking the lead with only 2 laps remaining scoring the win. It was Kickbuschs second victory of the weekend after winning Friday night at Luxemburg Speedway. Peterson placed second, Billy LeMieux again went double duty racing in two divisions racing to third from row 6, Kevin Luedtke had another solid run with fourth and former champion Tony Everard took home fifth with his first visit of the season.

Scott Boulanger remains undefeated in the Lackie Rentals and Remodeling IMCA Hobby Stocks with his second feature win a row passing CJ Weckler for the win.

Weckler had good night go bad with another flat tire. Derek Moede who rolled over Friday night rallied to second, Travis Hackett third, Ryan Rohr fourth and Joe Hegnet fifth. Boulanger also won Friday at Luxemburg.

The Bouche racing shop has always helped those with the will to race. The NB-27 memorial will award the Sportsman trophy to someone who defines what racing and family are all about. The traveling trophy has been awarded to Nathan’s father IMCA Stock Car driver Tony Bouche, Billy Hayes, Edward Anschutz and Darrell Massart. Award ceremony will take place in front of the grandstand. The IMCA Stock Cars are spotlighted and will have driver introductions for their feature.

We will also take a moment of silence in memory of those who made the ultimate sacrifice fighting for our freedom while serving our great nation.

Detour signs are posted, so make sure to follow them into town, then let the GPS take you the rest of the way. Otherwise I’m pretty sure it will take you to the closed bridge.

(Sturgeon Bay, WI) March 23, 2013- One of Thunderhill Raceway’s most decorated racers looks to enter new role as car owner. Aaron “The Hammer” Thornton looks to help an old time racer cross a wish off his bucket list. With his very busy seasonal business Seal-Tec Seal Coating, Thornton’s time in the shop has been limited over the years and last season he only raced a few times. At 69 years young “Wild” Bill Krueger has seen it and just about done it all in racing. He and his wife Mary are now retired and living in Sturgeon Bay. Kruger is a published author and was a paid crew member on an open wheel Indy Car team in the late 1960’s. Kruger will add another chapter to his storied career driving for Thornton in 2013.

“Wild” Bill’s first race came to be at Jefferson Speedway when a friend bet him he was to scared too strap in the car and race it. This took place in 1960 barely 18 years old Krueger, had to duck track officials as he wasn’t old enough to race! He ended up an impressive ninth out of 23 cars driving a 1949 Buick 4 door Sedan that featured a straight 8 engine. Krueger has wins on the dirt capturing a feature win at Chilton in the Sportsman division which paid a grand total of two dollars and a case of beer. He’s raced in several different states, numerous tracks that include Indianapolis Raceway Park, Elkhart Lake, Hales Corners, Slinger Super Speedway and the Milwaukee Mile. Next on the list, Thunderhill Raceway.

If you’ve been racing for a long time you’re considered a veteran. This makes Thornton’s race car a veteran and then some. “The car started out racing an Enduro Series then progressed into a early 90’s IMCA Stock Car finally finding its home as a Street Stock a few years later.” “I bought it from local racer Troy Muench in 1999 and won the 2004 Street Stock title at Thunderhill.” “This will be the 26th season on the car.” In fact Thornton has never finished outside the top three in points in all the years he ran full time with that car.

Thornton has competed the Bomber, Street Stock, IMCA Stock Car and IMCA Modified divisions, finding victory lane in all of them. He holds two track championships at Thunderhill and a Street Stock title at Luxemburg Speedway. When you see the black and gold #95 remember “Wild” Bill is behind the wheel. As for Thornton’s racing future; “As the years go by I’ve raced less and less, it maybe time for me to hang up my drivers suit, time will tell.” “For now I’m looking forward to helping Krueger drive that old tank of mine.”

(Sturgeon Bay, WI) May 18, 2013 Results- Former Thunderhill Raceway champion Jared Siefert used a green white checker restart to slide by defending champ James Tebon taking the win in the IMCA Modifieds. The win netted the former IMCA Modified National champ $800. Other feature winners were Shawn Havel (IMCA Stock Car), Jarred VanLaanen (IMCA Sport Mod), Scott Boulanger (IMCA Hobby Stock) and Von Eytcheson (Street Stock) Cory Cochart earned the N.E.W. Racing Supplies Hard Charger award in the IMCA Modifieds.

Next Saturday May 25 will be the 5th Annual Nathan Bouche Memorial featuring driver introductions for the IMCA Stock Cars.

Tebon and Siefert quickly sped to first and second with Tebon leading the way. Billy LeMieux was shuffled out of his front row starting spot but came storming back literally driving the car like he stole it. LeMieux pounded the cushion working to the outside of Siefert. Tebon stayed smooth working the low groove leaving the battle behind him. A series of cautions brought the field tight to Tebon’s bumper. LeMieux’s machine began to show smoke when another yellow flag flew forcing him to the pits with mechanical issues. Rookie Brad Lautenbach became a player on lap 10 running the top side eventually passing Siefert for second. Lautenbach then set his sights on Tebon pulling to the outside quarter panel of the leader when the caution flew. This put Lautenbach inside and Siefert outside for the green white checker finish. That was the break Siefert needed as he slipped passed Tebon taking the win in thrilling fashion. Tebon second, Lautenbach a strong third, Cory Cochart started in row five to finish fourth and Eugene Gregorich Sr. rounded out the top five.

Shawn Havel scored a clean sweep in the IMCA Stock Cars.

Havel and defending champion Dave Bouche quickly distanced themselves from the pack. Bouche kept the lead as Havel began to search for a line to catch the leader. With 7 laps remaining Havel found the momentum in the high groove working passed Bouche as they raced door to door. Havel’s racer was hooked up and hauling the mail which brought him all the way to the NAPA Auto Parts victory lane. Bouche held of a closing Brett Koehler for second, Tom Brumlic and John Anschutz capped off strong runs finishing in the top five. The race went caution free.

Jarred VanLaanen led every lap en route to victory in the IMCA Sport Mods.

VanLaanen used his front row starting spot to take an early lead but several cautions kept Kelsy Hayes and Martin Kelsey on the back bumper of the leader. Hayes secured the second spot and set her sights on VanLaanen closing in midway through the contest. With a handful of laps remaining the caution again waved allowing Ryan LeMieux to challenge the leader. VanLaanen nailed a perfect restart and beat LeMieux back to the checkers by car length. Hayes held on for third, Randy LeMieux Jr. fourth and Dennis Miesler brought home a solid fifth.

Scott Boulanger passed Ryan Rohr en route to victory in his John Soukup themed IMCA Hobby.

Rohr set the pace early leading the first five circuits before Boulanger blasted to the outside groove taking the lead. Derek Moede followed suit taking over second. With 5 laps remaining CJ Weckler broke an axle sending his car into a barrel roll out of turn 2. Dave Schmidt hit the debris field from Weckler‘s crashing machine, sending his race car into the backstretch wall. Both drivers emerged unscathed under the red flag but their night was over. Boulanger led the rest of the way taking home the win, Moede second, Travis Hackett was third, Rookie Dan VanPay placed an impressive fourth and Rohr rounded out the top five finishers.

Von Eytcheson went to victory lane scoring a clean sweep in the Street Stocks.

Jimmy Anderson and Kevin Luedtke paced the first handful of laps before Eytcheson quickly worked from row 3 and to the lead. John Sternard worked to the back bumper of Eytcheson with 2 laps remaining but it was to little to late as Eytcheson took the win, Sternard had to settle for second, Luedtke third, Keith Kickbusch and Todd Wagner made their return to racing both finishing in the top five.

(Sturgeon Bay, WI) May 16, 2013- Thunderhill Raceway is coming out of the gate swinging with a guaranteed $800 purse for the winner of the Kelsey Racing IMCA Modified feature. The season opener is this Saturday May 18, brought to you by Dave Hatch Racing and WDOR. A $50 Hard Charger award will be given to the driver who passes the most cars in the mod main courtesy of N.E.W. Racing Supplies.

Thunderhill is in search of a few brave souls to race their street vehicles for the Spectator Eliminator tentatively taking place as the last race of the night. Drivers will need to have a “street legal” vehicle, helmet, seat belts are mandatory…racing suits recommended. Spectator Eliminator drivers must buy a pit pass, register at the pit gate before the night starts and attend the drivers meeting. No coming out of stands to race. Winner gets a trophy and a trip to victory lane!
