Editors Wanted: Become a Neighborhoodr Editor

Being a Neighborhoodr editor is easy: you can republish whatever you’d like about your neighborhood from your own blog, or you can reblog or link out to your favorite local news outlets. We only ask that you please be mindful of the the people following the blog by spreading out posts using the queue and keeping the conversation on topic. There’s no commitment, and usually there are multiple editors per neighborhood to keep content fresh and colorful.

Over time, cities will have their individual neighborhoods represented, as the demand for that neighborhood presents itself. Tell us what’s happening in your neighborhood by clicking one of the links at the top of each city page. Help The Lower Eastside Girls Club win $50,000 in the DVF Foundation’s “People’s Voice” Awards!

The DVF Awards were created in 2010 by von Furstenberg and the Diller-von Furstenberg Family Foundation to recognize and support women who are using their resources, commitment and visibility to transform the lives of other women. Honorees receive $50,000 in support of the nonprofit, 501c-3 organization with whom they are affiliated to further their work.

Vote for The Lower East Side Girls Club founder Lyn Pentecost here.

The last day of voting is Feb. 15.

If the girls club wins, the money will go toward construction of their new Avenue D clubhouse and for their continued employment of local teenagers.

The MTA has partnered with OpenPlans, an open source dev shop, to produce MTA BusTime. BusTime is a real-time bus-tracking map available online and via smartphones. Originally estimated to cost $140M, the OpenPlans solution cost under $270K.
