Some great times with friends, some sad and awful losses.</p> <p>The beginning of October brought Joe and I two weeks of wonderful vacation and relaxation. We started our trip with a long drive up to Vermont for our friends Ryan and Michelle’s wedding. I got to meet my adorable nephew Noah for the first time and of course see my niece Lili, who just started Kindergarden! I can’t believe she is getting so old. First <a href="http://thethibaults.com/2011/10/14/dave/">news was about Dave</a>. A week later, I got the awful news that my friend Ashley, who I had met in BOLC (Basic Officer Leadership Course) last year, was killed in Afghanistan on Oct 22. Ashley was in my platoon, and we were a very tight group. She had volunteered to be part of a Female Cultural Support Team who works along side Special Operations units in some of <a href="http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-cultural-20111212,0,4424366.story">the most dangerous parts of Afghanistan (click for article).</a> Ashley was an amazing soldier and just overall awesome person, and will be missed by everyone who knew her. (<a href="http://www.ocregister.com/news/testa-321825-caouette-rover.html" target="_blank">Article here</a>) Dave was my mom’s neighbor in Massachusetts when she was in Jr High, and was a life long friend of both my parents. We spent many holidays in Seal Beach with the Caouettes over the years of my childhood, and their kids were like our cousins.</p> <p>The last time I saw Dave was at our wedding in 2008. He seemed to be having a good time. And I scratched the ‘old’ blog, because nobody wants to read about stuff that happened a year ago, right?</p> <p>Joe and I celebrated our three-year wedding anniversary last month. He got me a sweeeeeeeet new <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-D3000-Digital-18-55mm-3-5-5-6G/dp/B002JCSV5I" target="_blank">Nikon</a>. I got him a <a href="http://www.betabrand.com/bags/green-cornucopia-bag.html" target="_blank">backpack.</a> (Granted, he had been talking about wanting this backpack for his weekly farmer’s market trip, but still. He wins.) I plan on using this awesome gift on this blog and hopefully get my <a href="http://www.armynursemolly.com" target="_blank">Army</a> blog back up again too!</p> <p>Other new(ish) news: We moved to Baltimore! It means a 40-ish minute commute for me to get to work, but we are loving our new ‘hood. (Don’t believe all of Baltimore is like <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Sgj78QG9Bg" target="_blank">The Wire!</a> warning: link is nsfw.)
