<p>One of the most amazing parts of the human is the spine. The spine is an amazing engineering feat. The spine is designed to distribute the weight of the body across its length. The spine gives us the ability to walk upright. Our dependence on our spine is one of mobility. Many people experience low back pain. Low back pain comes when there is a concentration of force. This concentration of force can stress the muscles and soft tissues of the spine. You can take preventative actions to minimize this type of occurrence.</p>
<p>Let us start with diet.  One principal reason that many people experience the pain and discomfort of a low back injury is because of the Standard Western diet, high in fats, processed foods and sugars.  This is a major contributor to the increasing rates of obesity in society.  Obesity along with decreased amounts of exercise has led to an increasing number of people who suffer from low back pain.</p>
<p>Although your spine is an amazing engineering feat, it can become overloaded or misused. It is important to use proper lifting techniques and to maintain your posture. Learn to protect your back. When you lift use your legs. Your posture should be upright and not in a slouched position.</p>
<p>There many simple techniques to preventing low back pain. If you sit then make sure that you sit upright with your shoulders back. This takes the pressure off of your spine. If you are standing, do you slouch? Many people stand with their shoulders hunched forward. Instead put your shoulders back and your chin up. This not only improves your posture but also portrays a positive image.</p>
<p>Another key area of prevention is learning proper lifting techniques.  Lifting applies to all sorts of objects, not just heavy lifting.  Most people lift by bending over which puts all the weight and strain directly on the lower back.  The lower back was not designed for this type of lifting.  Instead use your legs by bending your knees.  Let your legs do the lifting because these are the largest and strongest muscles you have.</p>
<p>Exercise is another great preventative practice for low back pain. Start with a stretching course for the muscles. You can then do light exercises. Just going for a walk for 20 minutes can contribute greatly to good spine health. This will help to strengthen the muscles of the back as well as your heart.</p>
<p>The key to good spine health is muscles that retain their elasticity. Massage chairs are very helpful to massage the muscles. Massage chairs can penetrate deeply into the muscle tissues for soothing relaxation. Massage therapy helps to keep the muscles flexible and retain their elasticity. Massage chairs also have heating elements which can be used to help reduce swelling as well.</p>
<p>Another important preventative health tip for your spine is your sleeping position. Most people sleep between seven and eight hours a night. Improper sleeping positions can put stress on different parts of the spine and neck. It is better to sleep on your back than on your stomach. If you sleep on your side you may want to consider using a pillow to put between your knees. This will help to straighten your spine while you sleep. You can also try rolling up a small towel and inserting it in the lumbar area to make it more comfortable.</p>
<p>Prevention starts with the basics. Start with your diet, exercise, sitting and standing, lifting techniques, massage chair therapy and your sleeping position. Check with your medical professional for further information in these areas. Prevention of low back pain is an ongoing process. A massage chair can be an important partner to help you maintain your spine in the best health possible.</p>

<p>Respiration</p>
<p>This can be called the most important element of effective stress management in conjunction with the <a href="http://http://thewinsorpilatesguide.com/winsor-pilates-and-the-6-principles/">Pilates 6 Principles</a>. What unites physical exercises and deep meditation? Exactly! It&#8217;s the correct breathing.</p>
<p>Exhale deeply right before a stressful moment, it will relieve the upcoming stress quickly and effectively. When exhaling try to let out most of the air from your lungs, once lungs become &#8220;empty&#8221; quickly inhale a bit of air. This breathing out causes a mini cell suffocation which provokes a feeling of well being.</p>
<p>Positive is always better than the negative</p>
<p>If you&#8217;re faced with a violent video, look away! If you can listen to some classical music. Please do! Make it a rule of thumb, anything good comes before bad.</p>
<p>Youth is known for it&#8217;s kindness and affection. Many wonder why. They were not exposed to all of the negative elements that are out there (at least yet). So lets learn from the kids and surround ourselves by nice things.</p>
<p>Seeing things from the side</p>
<p>Say you come back from a long day at the office and notice that nobody greets you when you come back home. One person may assume that it&#8217;s because nobody loves him/her any more. Yet, for someone else it might indicate that the other person is exhausted or sick too tired to be cheerful. What would you think? People are free to assume good as they are to assume the bad.</p>
<p>Sometimes you need to challenge your beliefs and assume something is good rather than bad. It will put things into perspective and it&#8217;s something which is often needed in our hectic lives. A good example is the royal tradition called the &#8220;3 moons&#8221;, it consisted of waiting 3 days before confronting someone after a disagreement took place.</p>
<p>They believed that 3 nights allowed them to see things in another light. Now you have the royal secret and hopefully you will use it.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Joseph Pilates was born in Mönchengladbach, Germany, in 1880. His father was a prize-winning gymnast of Greek origin and his mother was a German, naturopath, who believed in stimulating the body to heal itself.  Joseph Pilates was a skinny and sickly child. He suffered from asthma, rickets and rheumatic fever. He was so skinny that he could not fight back the older boys who taunted him and it was under these conditions that caused him to begin his life&#8217;s journey to fitness and health.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">He studied both Eastern and Western forms of exercise including yoga, Zen, and ancient Greek and Roman regimens.  He came to believe that our modern life-style, bad posture, and inefficient breathing were the roots of poor health. His answer to these problems was to design a unique series of life enhancing physical exercises that help to correct muscular imbalances and improve posture, coordination, balance, strength and flexibility, as well as to increase breathing capacity<br />
and organ function.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">He went to England in 1912 and when World War I broke out in 1914 he was placed in an internment camp along with other German nationals. It was here that he began to develop the floor exercises that later evolved into what we now know as the Pilates mat work through the use of &#8220;Controlology&#8221;,  the comprehensive integration of body, mind and spirit.  A terrible epidemic of influenza swept the world in 1918. The internment camps were the hardest hit.  Under Pilates&#8217; rehabilitation program no detainees under his care succumbed to the disease.  He devised rehabilitation equipment from bedsprings and beer keg rings.  These were the origins of the equipment used today.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><img class="alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-22" title="j-pilates02" src="http://thewinsorpilatesguide.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/j-pilates02-150x150.jpg" alt="j-pilates02" width="150" height="150" />Pilates returned to Germany after the war and trained the Hamburg Military Police in self-defence as well as taking on personal clients. In 1925 through the persuasion of Nat Fleischer and with the aid of Max Schmelling he moved to New York.  There with the help of his wife Clara, a kindergarten teacher, he established his gym, developed the Pilates method of exercise, invented the Pilates exercise equipment, and of course, trained students.  In the same building as his gym there were several dance  and rehearsal studios, which led to his being discovered by the dance community.  Through the use of &#8220;Controlology&#8221; its dancers were sent to Pilates for rehab.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Joseph Pilates taught in New York from 1926 to 1966, referred to as the &#8220;Golden Years.&#8221; He was a friend and teacher to many renowned dancers and choreographers.  He trained a number of students  who applied his work and became teachers of the Pilates method themselves. This first generation of teachers who trained directly under him are often referred to as the Pilates Elders. Some committed themselves to passing along Joseph Pilates work exactly as he taught it. This approach is referred to as classical style Pilates. Other students went on to integrate what they learned with their own research in anatomy and exercise sciences.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Joseph Pilates died in 1967 at age 87. He had maintained a fit physique throughout his life. He was renowned for his flamboyant personality liking cigars, whiskey, and women. He would be seen running the streets of Manhattan, in the dead of winter, in his habitual bikini bottom training attire.  His wife Clara continued to teach and run his studio for another 10 years after his death.</p>
