Here We Come World!

There are two massive events that are going to take place in the next 3 weeks.

First of all KingsGate Community Church will be LIVE on BBC One on 31st May 2009.

The BBC only broadcast live church services three times a year and this year they have chosen KingsGate to do one of the broadcasts at.

Secondly, yesterday Tulip Radio announced their launch date! They will be launching on Friday 12th June 2009. This is a new chapter in Spalding's history as it will see the launch of Spalding's first ever full time radio station.

My own 3 hour show on the radio!

This post is about four days too late, but better late than never!

All this week at Peterborough Regional College we are running our own radio station; XPRES FM.

And everyday this week I have the pleasure of presenting the afternoon show from 1pm to 4pm.

The show includes live band performances, a ringtone quiz, interviews and also a daily drama, which is performed by performing arts students from the college.

So far this week I have interviewed the manager of Peterborough Museum, aired band performances from several bands from the First Diploma Course in Music and also other performing art bands, three out of the five drama performances and had a lot of fun along the way.

Thursday and Friday see two more bands take to the air for live performances around 1.3opm each day, more ringtones from the staff room, interviews with the head of media at Broadway and two more dramas.

It is set to be an amazing week. We are on air from 7am to 10pm with the latest news on the hour and also regular weather and traffic news throughout the day.

Since starting my Media Production course at Peterborough Regional College I've got involved in a few productions and I've had some time on my hands the past couple of days. So I decided to showcase some of my best work in a short reel.
The reel includes a production called 'Sorry Till Closed', a music video, a radio interview with Ralf Little and videos I have done for Tulip Radio.

My Go using Microsoft's Songsmith

I've heard about Microsoft's Songsmith and thought I should give it a go. So this afternoon I downloaded Songsmith from Microsoft (http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/um/redmond/projects/songsmith/) and sung a couple of nursery rhymes into my microphone to see how it coped. This is the result.

Back to Blog: Mad About Tulips

It's been a while since I last blogged properly. I'm starting to sound like one of those people that don't blog regularly...

This week marked the last term of college before the summer. But also the week Tulip Radio went national with a little help from Greg James from BBC Radio 1.

To set the scene, there is a news reader on BBC Radio 1 called Tulip Mazunda (might not be spelt like that) and Greg likes to find stuff with the word Tulip in it. He found one song. Then he found Tulip Radio in Spalding and starts to tell her about it. There are some emails exchanged between Greg's Radio 1 team and the Tulip Radio management, which ends up with.... Well if I told you, you wouldn't want to listen to the audio clips I have from Greg's shows!

Tulip Radio were mentioned every day this week, but I've only got the first three online at the moment for you to listen to in this post. However they are all on the Tulip Radio Facebook Page in the Music Player.

Some of you may be asking "When is Tulip Radio going on air then?" Well, neither I nor the management at the station know. We're currently in the midst of putting all the technical bits of the station and we don't know how long it's going to take. Sorry.

Oh! And some news on the front of my laptop which I sent back to America. I heard last week that Dell and Best Buy have ran some tests on it and they say it should be fine! My Uncle doesn't trust the shipping companies in not damaging it if he sent it back to me, so my Grandma and Grandad are going to bring it back with them after their visit. But they will get back while I'm in Australia. So I won't get it back in my hands until about 19th July 2009. Sad times.

Next weekend will be Spalding Flower Parade weekend so I should be busy and not drunk.

My Interview with Ralf Little

On Thursday it was the opening of the Peterborough Regional College's Broadway Media & Journalism Centre. To open the building we invited Ralf Little along. You may recognise him from the first six series of Two Pint of Lager and a Pack of Crisps and also from the Royle Family.

I was able to interview him in the buildings brand new and high-tech radio studios. I found out his favourite colour, favourite food and if he could be any animal, what he'd be!

Overall it was a great evening and it was enjoyed by all. So enjoy a small piece of the evening right now. Just click play.

Sorry Till Closed - The Revised Opening Titles!

Well a couple of weeks ago we had our last shoot at Somerfields in Whittlesey. The shoot went as planned and we made sure we had alot more shots to add to the opening. So now that we've got all that extra footage I've re-uploaded the new opening sequence. The original is still on there and available so you can compare it.

For a start version 2 is twice as long as version 1. Version 2 also introduces the main characters, Chris and Dave. And before anyone comments, yes Dave does scratch his nuts. But myself and the director felt that this added character to Dave as that is what he's like. That shot was actually an out take but I thought I'd make use of it.

RND 09 - The Dancing!

On Friday 13th March 2009 it was Red Nose Day 2009. During the week of the day some guys at PRC Broadway Media & Journalism Centre decided to do a 'Broadway Dances For Comic Relief' thing in the TV studios at Broadway. So I was dragged in to do the vision mixing for the Wednesday and Thursday of video recording. Below is a video from the Campus' YouTube channel. I did all the vision mixing and the graphics in the studio and recorded it directly to tape, and then Scott has uploaded it. So watch and enjoy. Hopefully more of it is coming soon.

Oliver's Summer In... The New Blog!

Well last summer was amazing in America. Thanks to everyone still :)

But Summer 2009 sees another adventure taking place.

I shall be travelling to Australia with my Dad to see some friends of his.

So I have decided to restart my "Oliver's Summer In America" blog, but under the new title Oliver's Summer In...

Last Wednesday, myself, Daniel, Craig and Lawrence went to Somerfields in Whittlesey to record the first part of our of video assignment 'Sorry Till Closed'.
We didn't have this name at the beginning of the shoot but as we started filming around we got the idea when we came back to the tills.
I edited the footage we had for the opening sequence and was quite happy when I came up with this.

I'm doing Something Funny for Money!

monThis morning I was chatting to my good friend Rachael and it some how came about that I would wear a thong....

So I thought that I'd do if for Comic Relief. Here's what's going to happen;

I will wear a thong as a replacement for my boxers for a day, if I can raise £50 before Thursday 13th March 2009.

So to help me in this great task, I have set up a Red Nose Day giving page. Just go to www.myrednoseday.com/thewebguyuk and give as much or as little as you wish to help me get to the magical £50 mark!

All it will take is 5 people to give £10 each or even 10 people to give £5 each!

I'm prepared to put myself through possible pain for Comic Relief as I always like to try and do something for these kind of things. In past years I've helped out Children In Need by doing quiz evenings with Christopher and Thomas, and I thought why leave Comic Relieft out!

BBC @ KingsGate

The BBC is coming to KingsGate Community Church in Peterborough on 31st May 2009 to do a LIVE broadcast of a service.

The BBC do live Sunday services several times a year, and this year they have chosen to do a service from the church I attend (KingsGate).

Songs Of Praise will also be recorded in KingsGate at the beginning of June!

All of these broadcasts will be going out on primetime BBC television and will give you a great chance to see one of Peterborough's biggest church congregations in full swing! It will also show you the East of England's biggest conference centre, with up to 1800 seats!

So keep your eyes peeled to my blog (thewebguyuk.co.uk), the KingsGate website (kingsgateuk.com) and the Songs Of Praise website (bbc.co.uk/songsofpraise) for all the latest information on the broadcasts.

Day Two of the Big Britain Snow-In

Like many other people in Britain, I have been affected by the high amount of snow that has fallen upon God's great Earth.
Yesterday I was supposed to go to college, but the college buses were cancelled, thus no college. But I was also supposed to go to Jess' house between the end of college and my college parents' evening. So I haven't seen Jess since a 2 minute meet on Monday.
Today is my day off college any ways so that doesn't really bother me. But then I was supposed to go meet some people in town but there is now way I'm going out today. Which also means that I won't be going to KingsGate Youth tonight.
It rather all sucks.
On a lighter note, here's a photo of the view outside my house I took yesterday:

If you follow me on Twitter, Facebook, MySpace or Bebo you might be aware that my laptop is currently not working. It says that the hard drive isn't connected. At the moment it isn't looking good.
So just a heads up, that I won't be online as much as usual.

That's exactly what has happened today.
I uploaded a video entitled 'Funny Puppet Story- How Does A Man Start His Day?' on Sunday 09 December 2007 at 10:05:22 PST. Only today have Warner Media Group (WMG) decided that they want to remove my video due to 'copyright issues'. It all sucks!
As of today the video had 2,655 views, 9 comments and a 4 star rating.
So what I am going to have to do is re-edit the original file so that it uses a different track and then re-upload it.
So when it's done, watch my YouTube for the re-edit.

It sounds rather like a bad chat up line to be, but it's actually a really cool flash-based games website! It is rather funky and I've spent too much time on it already!

So what on earth is Mogulus? Well some people would compare it to BLOG.tv or Ustream, but it is WAY about either of them. It's got a better back end... that's the end you, the viewer, don't see. It's easier to use and it's got great quality streaming.
