TV: White Van Man: Season 2 and The Family Tools

The Ollie-Darren tandem has returned for White Van Man’s Season 2. Its first episode “Charity” was aired on 23 February. Season two has a total of six episodes for fans to enjoy. If you have not seen season one yet, make sure you find the time to do so. This sitcom is totally cool and hilarious and have I mentioned painfully embarrassing?

White van man is actually the term that mostly describes self-employed individuals in the United Kingdom who drives light white commercial vehicles carrying their carpentry and plumbing business to every customer’s home. Handymen and their handy vans. Pretty handy, huh?

White van handymen Ollie [Will Mellor] and Darren [Joel Fry] unfortunately do not cater to residents in the US. TV: Survivor 25: Philippines

First and foremost, congratulations to Kim Spradlin for bringing home the Sole Survivor title plus the $1M check and the $100,000 America’s Choice prize after surviving 39 days in Samoa. Survivor: One World, the American reality tv’s 24th installment of the show has been a cool wild ride for both the castaways and its viewers. [F.Y.I: Kim and Troyzan are my favorites in season 24]

Survivor 25 which is scheduled to air its first episode sometime within the third quarter [September, I guess] of this year is going to be filmed in the Philippines. With more than 7,100 islands to choose from, the Philippines is no doubt a fantastic Survivor location.

Oh, and are you aware that three contestants from previous seasons who have been forced to leave the competition due to medical reasons will be returning for season 25? Exciting, isn’t it? Will we be seeing Colton once again? Uh-oh!

TV: Grandma’s House

I used to not like spending hours in front of the telly watching British comedy sitcoms. A few years back, I could not get the British accent, could not figure out a bunch load of British words and could not relate on certain British expressions. But then, time was able to turn me into a fan of British comedy shows after going through seasons 1 through 4 of The IT Crowd. Him & Her, Fresh Meat, White Van Man, Gavin & Stacey, Black Books, Spaced - only to name of a few of my favourite English tv shows.

So anyhoo, my boyfriend got a tip from his best mate a couple of nights ago. Thinking that it might be something good, we watched the pilot episode of Grandma’s House the following day.

Grandma’s House has just released its second season with its first episode being aired on 19 April 2012. With a star rating of 7.4 out of the possible 10 on IMDB, and with season 2 being released this year, my expectation was truly sky high.

Hmmm. I do not know what to say really. After watching the pilot episode [originally aired on 09 August 2010], I found myself not really happy. It did not bore me totally. Some parts somehow made me laugh at least but it wasn’t sufficient enough to get me going, if you know what I mean.

I will certainly spend some time watching its second and third episodes one day just to make sure that I will not be missing something huge if ever I decide to scratch if off my to-watch list.

Life is Like a TV Show

I have once spent a couple of months as a pharmacy intern in a drug manufacturing company where my everyday has been spent mixing concoctions, performing quality control and doing research where I have encountered for the first time laboratory moisture analyzers, state-of-the-art microscopes and other huge lab instruments.

Thinking back, being stationed inside the companies laboratory made me feel like I was in a crime lab show such as CSI or a medical drama series like House M.D. or Grey’s Anatomy. The experiments, the merging of chemicals, those tiny explosions and the deadlines --- oh yeah, I miss those stressful lab days.

Those days have been over years ago. Now, my days are spent in huge kitchens which is not really that different when compared to those lab days. As a chef, instead of mixing chemicals, I now mix ingredients to produce and serve good food to guests. Just like in laboratories, quality control in the kitchen is still highly observed and I continuously do research and experiments on recipes.

Kitchen instruments? We have huge ones, too! Walk-in vegetable refrigerators and freezers, massive ovens and stoves and more. The kitchen is for sure a stressful workplace and I love it!

If you think about it, life is like a tv show. Now, I am experiencing the pressure as a MasterChef competitor and as one of Chef Ramsay’s chefs in Hell’s Kitchen [though my workplace isn’t that hellish actually]… kinda cool in many ways.

Rock Climbing Adventures in Austin, Texas

I have never tried sport climbing myself but have always dreamed of giving it a go one day. It does scare me to bits whenever I think about the idea but it sure looks fun and I want to be a part of it somehow.

If rock climbing is one of your favorite pastimes, then you will definitely want to try it in Austin. I want to visit Austin one day and if given the chance, I want to go rock climbing there at the same time. I am looking into beginner courses right now and man… I want to try it now! Thrilled and excited --- that is how I am feeling, no doubt! With awesome trails, beautiful scenic views and changing routes, rock climbing in Austin is truly a fascinating experience for both pros and starters of all ages.

Aside from looking into the possibility of having a rock climbing adventure in Texas, I am also reading recommendations on where to stay when in Austin. Condos in Austin look fabulous and cozy. I have heard of condo units for rent but have not stumbled upon one yet. I am very curious about the price depending on the length of stay so hopefully, Google can feed me some answers.

Games: Playfish is Closing Down Restaurant City

After almost three years, Playfish has decided to close one of its very popular Facebook games, Restaurant City. On June 29, 2012, players can no longer continue creating dishes, buy, gift and rearrange furniture, complete Maggie challenges and visit each other’s restaurants. Unfortunately, even the Gourmet Edition of the game [available on iPhone, iPod touch and iPad] will also be shut down. Yes. Restaurant City is closing down the kitchen.

Although I stopped playing the game during the first quarter of 2011, I must admit that somehow, I will miss it.

Goodbye Restaurant City. Thank you for the good times and for finding me great online friends.

Summertime Means Golf and Mini Golf!

My boyfriend and his brothers go golfing at least once a year. A few hours under the sun during summer, admiring the beauty of nature while playing one of their favorite pastimes is their healthy and fun way of spending quality sibling time together. They usually end their golf activities with a sumptuous picnic.

I do not have a deep understanding about golf but I sure do want to try my swing one day. Those bags and club sets look so inviting, don’t they? I have to say though that the golf balls bore me. Golf ball printing is a good idea! A golf ball with my name one little thing I want to do. Of course, Bebe will have a one, too [with his name, of course]!

Mini golf on the other hand is something I understand a lot and because the rules are way easier to grasp than playing the real one. I play it with Bebe and family at least three times every summer. I have never won a game but it’s loads of fun and challenging, too!

I can already feel the warm summer breeze. In a few weeks time, I’ll be out mini golfing once again! This time, I’ll try harder. Who knows? I might end up bringing home the bacon [there’s no prize actually] at last.

TV: The Guild

As a huge fan of The Big Bang Theory, I have to say that there have been times when I dream of becoming a member of the brainy gang. Actually, an hour ago, I have just seen the latest episode of the show, “The Stag Convergence” which as usual has given me the real LOL deal. Anyhoo, so while hanging out at IMDB.com, I’ve come across The Guild. The show has up to five seasons with a very high star rating of 8.7 out of the possible 10 from more than 3,000 IMDB users. The show is now included on my list of “to watch”!

The Guild is a comedy web series with its plot focused on Zaboo and Codex, technology geeks who spend most hours of each day playing video games. They one day meet in person and ta-dah… begins the funny roller coaster adventures of the two.

Even if the show is not about SEO nor blogging, it seems like a lot of my internet genius friends will like The Guild. With so much discussion and debates going on at the moment regarding web optimization, blog tips and techniques, hosting [from the simplest type to hybrid hosting options] and the recently released Google Penguin, I think The Guild’s YouTube webisodes can help lighten everyone’s moods.

You can watch all The Guild webisodes on YouTube or simply grab seasons 1 to 5 on DVD. I’ll be checking out season 1 on YouTube and if I find myself getting hooked, I’ll certainly end up ordering the rest online.

TV: Warehouse 13

With so many good tv shows these days, finding time to watch them all is impossible especially when one has quite a full schedule on hand. I always try to cope up whenever I can and still, I keep missing on something exceptional – Warehouse 13, for example. With its pilot episode released on 27 July of 2009, the show has received impressive reviews and high ratings, enough to make me want to watch it.

If you are a fan of X-Files, Fringe and Torchwood, then you might as well add Warehouse 13 on your list of favorites. I have seen its trailer on YouTube and although it does not say so much, it seems like it has loads of potential.

Warehouse 13 stars Eddie McClintock as Pete and Joanne Kelly as Myka, both U.S. Secret Service agents who are sent to South Dakota where the warehouse of paranormal objects are secretly being kept. Expect loads of experiments, researches, trolleys, large storage boxes, hard hats, orange vests, rolling ladders, fascinating discoveries, solving mysteries [oh… I so love mystery!], huge piles of books and papers and more… definitely, more!

TV: Breakout Kings

I saw the ad on telly and found two very familiar faces at once [Jimmi Simpson - It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Robert Knepper - Prison Break, Heroes]. I watched the first episode with Bebe then got hooked. Breakout Kings, yeah!

Breakout Kings’ pilot episode was released on 6 March 2011 on A&E Network. With a promising plot, this show is definitely a must-see especially for those who enjoy watching Prison Break and Alcatraz. It stars Domenick Lombardozzi [Ray Zancanelli], Laz Alonso [Charlie Duchamp] and Brooke Nevin [Julianne Simms] - a team of crime fighters with their own personal issues whose mission is to bring escapees back in custody within 48 hours. In order to put the cons behind bars as soon as possible, Malcolm Goodwin [Shea Daniels], Jimmi Simpson [Lloyd Lowery] and Serinda Swan [Erica Reed], are chosen to join Ray, Charlie and Julianne. The twist? These three are all cons. Why not? You’ve seen it before and most of the times, it works… send a con to catch a con! The reward: with every fugitive they catch shortens their sentence. That’s minus one month per accomplished mission. Good deal!

Oh. If you are curious, Robert Knepper [Prison Break] will appear on Season 1 Episode 3 entitled “The Bag Man”. Yup. It’s T-Bag out of prison! With a very beautiful reason in his head, T-Bag escapes Fox River State Penitentiary, the five maximum-security prison featured on Prison Break to kill those who did his sick mom wrong. With so much to go through, T-Bag, smart and cunning as always, is able to accomplish his aim and meet his mom before the Breakout Kings team catches him. This is so far my favorite episode of the series. T-Bag’s such a twisted character yet adorable!

Because Breakout Kings Season 1 has been a hit, the pilot of its second installment has been aired on 4 March 2012. Breakout Kings Season 2 has a total of 10 episodes with a two-hour finale on 29 April.

Starting to Get that Summer Feeling?

How is the weather in your corner of the world? Are you already feeling the sun shining on your cheeks? Is it beginning to get really warm that you know you will soon be heading to the beach to get some tan? If you are starting to get that summer feeling, I so envy you. The weather up here has gotten weird since Sunday.

It rained on Sunday. It snowed on Monday. It snowed more on Tuesday. It was cloudy and very dark on Wednesday. It rained much yesterday. Today is really dark and again, it’s raining … a lot. Bloody weather, it is! With temperatures playing between 1 to 7°C, the citizens are back to wearing winter jackets. With the cold breeze blowing, it’s really freaking cold outside at this time of the year. So odd!

Sometimes I wish that it’s August 2011 once again when Bebe and I are in London, enjoying the sun and the warm weather with Bebe’s best mate Lo and family. I sure love Lo’s gramma’s garden… a lot! The greens, the flowers, the tiny but lovely fruit and veggie garden, the bird sanctuary, the trees, the tree house, the bees --- I so miss all these!

Anyhoo, despite the present bad weather, summer will reach this part of Sweden hopefully soon. I can’t wait to take a stroll downtown, see kids enjoying at the park, play minigolf, eat ice cream and fries [weird combo, I know] under the shed of one of the outdoor patio umbrellas along the river, sit on the grass or take my indoor cats for a short walk. Summer is so much fun so summer, where are you?

TV: Zooey Deschanel is the New Girl

If you love Friends, How I Met Your Mother and The Big Bang Theory then most likely, you’ll enjoy New Girl. It stars the cool and gorgeous Zooey Deschanel along with Jake Johnson, Lamorne Morris, Max Greenfield and Hannah Simone. While New Girl premieres in the US [Fox Network] on 20 September 2011, here in Sweden, its pilot episode has just been aired yesterday, 13 April which, by the way, is perhaps the best Friday the 13^th I’ve had so far. All thanks to New Girl!

New Girl is something one can safely consider as the modern version of the popular tv show Friends. It’s funny, fresh, brilliant and totally awesome!

New Girl: The Plot:

Jessica “Jess” Day [Deschanel], a teacher who, after finding out face to face that her boyfriend for many years, Spencer [Ian Wolterstorff], has been sleeping with another woman decides to leave and is on the hunt for a new place to stay. She bumps into a “housemate: wanted” ad, applies and has somehow gotten in. With her bizarre attitude and unexpected singing moments, Jess turns her housemates into great friends she can rely on.

Meet Jess’ roomates:

Nick Miller [Jake M. Johnson] - after being dumped by the love of life [at least he thought] Caroline [Mary Elizabeth Ellis] six months ago is the gang’s pessimist with a heart. Nick’s a law school dropout who ends up working as a bartender and is at the moment in search for the love of his life.

Schmidt [Max Greenfield] - is the group’s douchebag. He is the only male employee in his work place and thinks of himself as a lady-killer. He sure does have an eye for Cece [Hannah Simone], a model and is Jess’ best friend.

Winston Bishop [Lamorne Morris] - is Nick’s childhood best friend who leaves the apartment for a couple of years to try his luck in Latvia as a basketball star. He comes back to join Nick, Schmidt and Jess on the sitcom’s second episode. He’s cool but is having problems landing on a job.

If episode 1 is still fresh in your memory, you’ll definitely remember Coach [Damon Wayans, Jr.] --- the roommate who has trouble talking to women because of his involuntary voice volume? Ring a bell? In episode 2, Coach leaves his roommates and that’s when Winston returns from Latvia.

Minigolf Downtown: Fun But the Lawn Needs More Grass

4.] The Green Mile [1999] - At number 71 on IMDB.com’s Top 250 movies of all time comes The Green Mile. Admit it, you cry a river every time you get to watch this very captivating film. Just like The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile is also written by the brilliant Stephen King. No wonder why The Green Mile’s a one of a kind classic!

5.] Troy [2004] - Although not included in IMDB.com’s chart of Top 250 movies, Troy is in my list of all-time faves. It might not be considered by many as an epic masterpiece but for me, Troy is something I consider as an electrifying ride that is worth every penny. Have seen it a bunch load of times!

I am so happy to find these Blu-ray movies on sale! Such a wonderful addition to Bebe’s Blu-ray bundle of happiness!

Yoga To Do It!

After coming home from internship a few hours ago, I suddenly felt this leg and foot pain attacking my mood. I gave my legs and feet a soothing massage while watching an episode of The Breakout Kings [will do a review later]. The massage helped however, it did not eliminate the pain totally. Sigh.

I guess it is really time for me to give yoga a chance. I do yoga sometimes but I am planning on doing it everyday. Most likely if I am doing yoga regularly, I will not be experiencing too much muscle pain. Half an hour a day might be enough for a beginner like me, right? During those yoga trials, I have proven that yoga helps me relax, keeps me calm, increases my strength, improves my posture and gives me inner peace. I still haven’t done some yoga accessory shopping. Window shopping on the other hand is something I am really good at. Because I already have a meditation iPhone app, aside from a yoga mat, a ball and a cushion, I also need an instructional yoga DVD for starters. Gotta check one online! Fingers crossed, I hope it doesn’t cost a fortune.

To Watch: The Avengers

The long wait is soon over. Fifteen days from now, the much awaited movie of the year is finally hitting the big screen all over Sweden! As early as yesterday, Bebe and I have already scheduled April 27 as our The Avengers day. After his work and my internship, we’ll be watching Nick Fury and the S.H.I.E.L.D.’s team of super humans doing their thing to save planet earth. We still haven’t made any reservations yet but we’ll definitely do that no later than five days before the big day. To get good seats, it’s better to book early, right?

I’ve gone through a few reviews from those who’ve been lucky enough to watch The Avengers’ screening night. So far, so good. I’ve checked some trailers and man oh man… it’s excitement overload! Students of film online courses know the must see films of 2012 and I bet The Avengers is one of the films they’ll highly recommend.

Of course. Before watching The Avengers, it is a must in my rule book to first see the movies Iron Man 1 and 2, Thor, Hulk, The Incredible Hulk and Captain America. Because Bebe and I have seen all these more than twice [yeah, we are that addicted!], we are so qualified to gain access to two The Avengers tickets! Woo-hoo!

By the way, are you aware that there is going to be a third Iron Man Film? Yes. After The Avengers, Tony Stark [Robert Downey, Jr.] is back for Iron Man 3 which is scheduled to be released in theaters during the first week of May 2013. It’s still on its pre-production stage so no trailers yet.

Aside from Tony Stark, Thor 2 is scheduled to be out on November 2013 while Captain America 2 on April 2014. Long waiting periods but we’re all aware that all these are worth the wait! No news on Hulk’s comeback at the moment. I wonder why.

Gadgets: Nokia 808 PureView - The Brilliant Camera with a Phone and More!

In August of 2009, I found myself at the crossroads - to leave Nokia for iPhone or not? After weeks of thinking things over, iPhone 3GS, it was.

My iPhone’s turning three soon and I am seriously considering the idea of getting a new mobile device. I love Apple but to be honest, the iPhone 4S doesn’t appeal that much to me [sorry]. I don’t know. I guess I want something new for a change? [yup. That’s a question mark you’re seeing.] The Nokia Lumia 800 has been my first option not until I’ve heard about the amazing Nokia 808 PureView.

With a 41MP image quality Carl Zeiss lens, I’ve completely thought that it was a joke at first. Fortunately, I was wrong!

I love animals. I love pets. As of the moment, Bebe and I have two indoor cats [an orange and a black one]. Back home, my brothers and mom have a one-year old Chow Chow and they even feed a few stray cats. In the near future, I see myself owning at a white furry cat and a male Chow Chow. Pets are everyone’s best friends, you know?

I can still remember those fun-filled days when my brothers and I together, took care of a couple of rabbits. One white and one gray. Oh, I so miss those gorgeous creatures!

TV: Smithy to the Rescue - Red Nose Day 2011

After watching the final episode of Gavin & Stacey, I felt my heart sank. Bebe and I so love this tv program that letting it go had been a struggle. No more Pamelar and Gavlar. No more Nessa, Mick, Gwen, Uncle Bryn and most of all, no more Smithy! I wanted more robot dances and singing the Smithy way! --- Life’s ain’t lush without this crackin’ mate, I tell yah’.

Missing James Corden’s character [Smithy] a lot, I keep on reminding Bebe to check if there’s going to be a Smithy spin-off anytime soon or maybe a new season of the show or if not, at least a Gavin & Stacey movie. Yeah. I know. I sound ridiculous but if you’ve seen this tv show from start to finish, you’ll know why I so want to see Smithy and the gang all together one more time.

A couple of nights ago Bebe surprised me with an absolutely funny YouTube video on his iPhone. We were already in bed. He wasn’t that sleepy while I, on the other hand was very much ready to doze off to sleep. The first few seconds of the clip did not get me interested but by the time I heard Smithy’s voice, yay! --- that was pure adrenalin rush!

Getting a Car? Not Yet.

During our coffee break last Monday, one of my classmates asked me if I was interested in buying her car. Thinking it was a joke, I said yes. She at once told me about the car, the price as well as the pros and cons. After a short chat, she made me realize that she was selling it for real.

Although the car is obviously old, it is still looks whole and pretty. It has an issue with the battery which, according to my culinary classmate is easy to fix. Curious as always, I’ve Googled for batteries myself and have found positive reviews about Odyssey batteries such as the Odyssey pc310, the pc545 and the pc925. How I wish that I could really grasp everything about its specs and details. But then again, I am not a mechanic, am I?

I really really really want to get the car. She is even offering me a lower price which is brilliant. One huge issue though. I still do not have a Swedish driver’s license. To get one, I need to finish school first, get a job and enroll to a driving school. Aside from being very expensive, getting a driver’s license in Sweden is a tough road to take. So, it might actually take awhile before I can get my own car.

We’ve made a deal somehow. If the car is still unsold by the time my driver’s license lands on my hands, then the car is meant to be mine.

I haven’t taken a photo of the maroon car she’s selling. Will do that some other time. Meanwhile, let me show you this piece of beauty… unfortunately, it is not for sale. But then again, if it is, I’ll definitely can’t afford it anyway.
