ADHD is a condition that affects children and adults alike but it has been extensively studied only among children. Many types of ADHD treatments have been developed over time and they include drugs, behavior therapy, natural medicines for ADHD and also natural remedies for ADHD. It has been clinically proven that a combination of drugs and behavior therapy is the most effective solution to manage this condition. But, there are many other non medical treatments also that have been developed over time and have gained acceptance among the population.

Behavioral therapy, that includes behavior modification techniques, has been extensively studied and has been shown to be the best option for managing ADHD when used in combination with drugs. It uses the concept of rewards (what a person likes) and punishments (what a person dislikes) and by providing or removing these rewards and punishments, it is possible to successfully control the behavior of the ADHD person. It is important to note that the specific module that is used for different people will vary depending on what the individual likes and dislikes are.

Dietary intervention is another line of treatment that has been known to have a positive impact on ADHD symptoms. It is postulated that cognition and behavior are mediated by monoamine neurotransmitters and the food that we eat contains the precursors of these chemicals. Feingold diet has received a lot of attention as a diet plan that helps in improving ADHD condition. Though there are critics of this theory, it does not harm to try out dietary management as a line of treatment since it does not have any side effects. After all, eating healthy hasn ‘t harmed anyone!

Family therapy and social skill training is also considered beneficial for management of ADHD. It is important to evaluate and address the family dynamics once a family member has been diagnosed with ADHD. It helps the family members to adjust to this new condition and become aware of their role in helping the ADHD person. Many clinical models have been developed for family therapy and these models propose regular sessions for maximum benefit. The counseling of the ADHD individual himself empowers him to deal with his situation in the best possible way.

There are many alternative treatments available, some of which have been evaluated scientifically. Others have gained attention because people have tried these and have reported positive benefits. However, people have shown interest in these alternative treatments because they do not have any side effects. Some of these treatments are visual therapy, Homeopathy, Hypnotherapy, Auditory stimulation and Biofeedback.

Pregnant moms quite often have a question will talking to your baby increase his intelligence? In our culture the majority of the opinion is that parenthood starts after birth. In fact some believe that the baby isnt a baby until after he is born so it isnt surprising that others believe that parenting isnt possible until after the baby is born.

This view has been fostered over the years by scientists, who dont define the baby as human until after they are born since they are believed to be unable to see, hear or experience pain or emotion.

However, more recent research has shown that children are able to hear their mothers voices and are calmed by the same after they are born. Then, to reset the clock on parenting you shouldnt miss the early period from conception to birth. This early period of parenting is a wonderful time to form an early bond and foster a relationship with mom and dad that will be reassuring to your baby once he is thrust into the world.

Another essential piece to early parenting is helping the child to construct a physical environment (his body) that will determine the childs equipment for living which includes his limitations and advantages. Parents who wait until after the baby is born have started too late. By now all of the basic equipment has been finalized and although there is some plasticity about the brain and development it wont negate poor nutrition or poor development.

Also, because of the increasing amount of chemicals, viruses and bacteria that can assault the baby before hes born the womb is no longer the safe place it once was. A mother may also innocently invite birth defects through poor nutrition or lack of necessary vitamins and minerals. For instance, folic acid is necessary for the appropriate development of the neural tube or the neurological system.

One of the biggest surprises to scientists has been the emotional responses that children express in the uterus that are viewed on ultrasound. Children move in response to the mothers cough, laughter and voice. Doctors have seen protest movements to uncomfortable movements. Interestingly ultrasounds have also observed the inner world of twin social behavior in the uterus that includes kissing, hitting, kicking or playing together. Life in the uterus bears very little resemblance to the lazy world that was previously thought.

But will talking to your baby increase his intelligence? The most recent research shows that babies who are exposed to specific music or auditory stimulation will show recognition when they are born. Does this recognition lead to enjoyment of the same? Scientists arent really sure that recognition of a musical piece will lead to further exploration of the experience. But what has been proven is that parents who participate in early parenting while the baby is still in the uterus develop stronger bonds with their children that last a life time. Is this because the parents who speak with their babys while they are in the uterus also spend more time after the baby is born? This is difficult to determine.

Studies done in Venezuela have also shown that children who were stimulated before they were born also had earlier development of speech, fin and gross motor development and better cognitive processing. These gifts of early parenting will talking to your baby increase his intelligence or do these parents also spend more time after the baby is born on the same type of activities?

Soon youll be too big and too tired to enjoy it and your doctor will advise against it. Then the baby will be born and all your life will change.

During your second trimester there are things to begin planning to stay on track for pregnancy that doesnt end in a panic state. But what to plan in your second trimester? Its time to make a list of things that will have to be accomplished before the baby is born. You ma want a generic list or one that allows you to tick off the items as you complete them. Use what works for you.

These are some of the things that you will want to be thinking about:

Nursing bras if you are going to be nursing

Supportive bra to use during exercise that fits your growing breasts

Maternity clothes for your growing belly

Babys room crib, changing table (if you are using it), clothes storage

Crib sheets and bumper pads to protect baby from the railings

Growth and development toys just a few

Maternity leave at work are you going back? Full time or part time?

Paperwork to add your baby to your insurance policy be sure to make the call!

Labor and delivery classes

Nursing class

Birth class for your other children

Dental cleaning so you dont have to have one until after you return to work

Support after your baby is born help, housekeeping, nanny,

Choosing the type of birth you want at the hospital or at home

Choose your pediatrician for you baby

Resource books on nursing, delivery

Create a journal of events during this time

These are just some of the things what to plan in your second trimester. You may find that a global list works best or you may like to plan out when youll make these decisions and enter the dates into a calendar to keep you on track. What ever makes the most sense to you use it! What ever you do do not leave the decisions and planning for the third trimester, or worse, just weeks before the baby is born.

1. Bury a time capsule together with trinkets and love letters to each other. Draw a map with an X marking the spot. Store the map in your safety deposit box or in another safe place. Dig it up in 10 or 20 years.

2. Create a music disk of love songs, fun songs or songs that remind you of each other.

3. Plant a post-it note or two in a book your love is reading. Write “I love you,” I want you,” or “XOXOXO.”

4. Go to a photo booth at the mall together. Fool around while having your photo taken. Keep the photos in your car or at work for when you need a fun pick-me-up.

5. Plant a tree together and talk about how you will carve your names in it with a heart in 20 years.

6. Go to a coffee shop – just to sit together and talk. Or get coffee to go – go for a long scenic drive together.

7. Be naughty, play hooky together. Do whatever you want together.

8. Send your love at letter at work. Disguise it in a business envelope. Make it happy for a pick me up, loving for romance and naughty if you’re planning a date that evening.

9. Heart shaped notes – use one at a time or 20 at a time. Plant little messages throughout the house or garage to add a thrill.

10. Pick up some dipping chocolate and strawberries or cherries at your local grocery store. This makes an incredibly romantic dessert for two.

11. Drive for an hour or two just to have a picnic or stop at a restaurant you’ve never been at.

12. Name a Star together. When you ‘re apart you can look up at your star and know someone is out there waiting for your safe return.

13. Use glow in the dark stars and a black light to create a romantic night sky inside.

14. Create a spa atmosphere at home. Candles, essential oils and burners, mood music and massagers or other relaxation products can be purchased at almost any department store or bath shop.

15. Godiva, the fine chocolate maker, has developed wonderfully tasting chocolate liquor. Use wine glasses to serve it for dessert.

16. On a special night, dim the lights and put on soft music. Then, undress leaving a trail of your clothes from the front door to the bedroom; just before your love is about to arrive home.

17. Sit by the fire together roasting marshmallows.

18. While your love is taking a shower, sneak in and write, “I love you!” on the steamed mirror.

19. Make a puzzle of a love letter or brochure for a surprise getaway. Send a piece to your love everyday until it ‘s complete. Or leave a piece on the table or dresser everyday.

20. Make a tape recording asking your love to meet you somewhere or tell them how much they are loved.

21. Next time you ‘re walking anywhere, grab your love ‘s hand or walk arm and arm.

22. Make a “Prescription for Love” on the computer. Fill it out using words like: take two doses of love and come see me now or take with kisses twice daily. Use an empty medication bottle without the label, inside you can fill with heart candies or erotic messages.

23. Plan a surprise anniversary party for your love.

24. Leave a Hershey ‘s Kiss where it will be found with a note, “I ‘m thinking of kissing you.”

25. Just call to say, “I love you,” “I ‘m thinking of you” or “I miss you.”

Medications, a quick fix solution, are the most common way out of panic attacks. They are, for sure, not the ultimate solution to all behavioral dysfunction and many people have become well without the aid of them. Nonetheless, they are still being prescribed for two reasonsbecause they work and because they are convenient.

But can people with panic attacks truly live normally without the medications? For those who believe in their capacity to help themselves intro treatment other than taking pills and tablets, they can. Sadly for those who are used to the idea of resorting to meds for cure, it may be a bit hard not to take them.

People who depend too heavily on medication for the alleviation of panic attack symptoms know for a fact that dependence will ultimately occur. Along with the possibility that they will not get cured of their behavioral condition, they also will create another problem for themselveshow to recover from dependence on the medication? This truth is perhaps further exacerbated by the fact that panic attack medications are not the typical over the counter drugs that one could easily get over with.

Oftentimes, these drugs (e.g. valium and antidepressants) are meant to cure serious cases of mental disorders. Eventually, the patients will no longer suffer from only one condition but two serious conditions. The bonus? The addiction adds and aggravates the unpleasant experiences accompanying panic attacks. This is the common experience of people who rely too much on laboratory-produced substances.

Apart from drug dependence, panic attack medications can also trigger side effects at varying degrees. Typical examples of side effects are slower reflexes, light headedness, lack of energy, nausea, dizziness, upset stomach, blurry vision, disorientation, memory loss, confusion, impaired judgment, reduced brain activity, slurred speech and depression. Beyond the typical side effects, panic attack medications can also pose added risks overtime especially when certain combinations of medications are used.

Another problem that may be experienced are the paradoxical effects they could elicit. Paradoxical effects include those conditions that are excited by the use of specific medications which include irritability and anxiety at the less serious levels, and mania, aggression and hallucination at the more advanced stages.

Further, panic attack medications come with hefty price tagsnot really the best way of exacerbating your already serious behavioral disorder.

However, despite all the negativities surrounding panic attack medications, their effects should not be counted as entirely useless or dangerous. They were made to provide symptom relief and possible cure to start with. Thus, not all effects are bad. Nonetheless, it must be remembered that relief from the symptoms should not be entirely dependent on their effects. They must only be used when extremely necessary. Otherwise, these medications, which are by nature foreign chemicals, might destroy something in you that is beyond repairable.

The truth is, there are a number of ways to cure yourself from panic attacks apart from depending on medications to give you the solution. Behavioral therapies as well as cognitive approaches are among the best alternatives to drugs. Group and individual therapies are also good options. But despite all the promises of these therapies and treatments, if the person lacks the determination to take himself out of the grip of panic attacks, all these may prove useless.

Over the years, medical professionals and patients alike proved that only the person, the patient of panic attacks, could find the cure for his condition.

Plan an unusual baby shower and your friends will be talking about your party abilities for months. The best part is that it isnt nearly as difficult or time consuming as you might believe. Your first task on the list is to bring together people for the shower who are meaningful to the new mother, have a desire to have some fun and are willing to step out a bit during the party.

Try spicing up the menu a bit for an unusual baby shower. Use a theme of foods but put away the pizza or common meatballs and try bringing foods together from the new moms favorite foods. She may enjoy Spanish foods, South of the Border, Chinese, Asian, Southwestern, French or Caribbean. Think outside the box and then find a restaurant who will prepare the food for take out. The last thing you want to do, unless you love to cook, is to figure out a new food and present your first attempt to all your friends. Catering also frees up your time and energies to put into the shower and keeps you out of the kitchen.

Unusual baby showers used to be couple showers but now they are more common place. Inviting all women or a couples shower is really up to you and what you believe the mother will enjoy most. And that decision will be based on the kind of games and gifts you have planned. You may even contemplate having a family shower and include the children of all the guests.

One fun unusual baby shower game is a name scramble. Take the first name of the mother and dad, making sure they are spelled correctly. Then each participant can come up with all of the combinations of letters from each name that will spell a baby name. You can use each letter once or more than once the choice is yours. Now you have a list of potential names for the new parents that they may want to consider.

All guests may want to participate together for one gift that is personalized through the use of photos and arent the usual frilly gifts. The new mother may appreciate a gift of babysitting when the baby is 3 months old.

Go beyond the usual baby gifts and consider a diaper cake. This is a cake that is put together with white diapers (not the colored pink or blue ones) into three layers. You can stuff the center of each layer with another small gift. Its cost effective, fun and very useful.

Unusual baby showers may also include unusual center pieces that dont necessarily have to be centered around a baby theme. You may want to use a seasonal flower arrangement, moss topiary that is made easily from the hobby store, a center piece of lollipops or chocolate cookies on sticks.

Another unusual baby shower gift is a time capsule where the new mother can collect items from the day the baby is born and has a great canister in which to keep them. Or a hand impression kit that mom can take an impression of the little ones hands.

Dont forget prizes for the guests that they can take home. Goody bags seem to be popular for the younger than 10 crowd but they can go over really well with the older than 20 crowd too. Try using gift bags stuffed with samples of make up or perfume. Have a friend who sells Avon or Mary Kay? Theyll be happy to give out samples that may net them new customers. How about including a some fresh flowers and a small glass object that represents your friendship with the new mother. What a great reminder for the guests that they are important too!

It is believed that there are many possible causes for ADHD. Hence, ADHD treatment should be based on a multifaceted approach that should encompass medication, behavioral therapy, dietary intervention and exercise. A combined approach has been shown to have imparted the maximum benefit to the children diagnosed with ADHD. Of the various causes for ADHD, some important factors that are related to the diet are nutritional deficiencies, food allergies, food additives and heavy metal toxicity. Though there is no conclusive evidence to prove that a particular type of a diet will offer a positive benefit, experts agree that a well balanced diet and exercise can go a long way to help in managing this condition effectively.

It is important to exercise daily. ADHD is a brain-based disorder in which the chemistry of the brain (neurotransmitters) is not functioning normally. Exercise helps in normalizing the brain chemistry.

It is postulated that cognition and behavior are mediated by monoamine neurotransmitters and the food that we eat contains the precursors of these chemicals. Hence, dietary intervention is another line of treatment that is known to have an impact on ADHD condition. There are two approach of dietary intervention. The first is based on the concept of elimination of foods to which the ADHD children might be sensitive to. Feingold diet is the most famous of the diet elimination approach. This diet plan is based on the principle that the additives used in the processed foods, especially artificial colors, artificial flavors, preservatives and salicylates induces hyperactivity in sensitive children and adults and hence such foods need to be eliminated from the diet. One should consult an expert before experimenting with the Feingold diet.

The other approach of dietary intervention is nutritional supplementation. It encompasses the supplementation of the diet with the nutrients that are missing in the diet of the ADHD child. Again, the evaluation of the nutrients that are missing in the diet should be done by an expert. There are many nutritional supplements that are available in the market today that help in providing a specific nutrient which might be missing from the diet. Supplementation with polyunsaturated fatty acids can help alleviate the deficiency of these acids, which are a component of the membranes of the nerve cells. Glyconutritional supplements, which contain glucose, galactose, mannose and other basic saccharides, are becoming popular. Two initial studies have shown a link between the consumption of these glyconutritional supplements and the reduction in hyperactivity and inattention symptoms. Other supplements consist of single vitamin megadoses, recommended daily allowance vitamins, natural remedies for ADHD etc.

Experts agree that there are many different causes for this condition. And if there are many reasons, there have to be a number of different treatments, combining pharma drugs, natural medicines for ADHD, proper diet planning and behavior therapy. However, before starting with any treatment, it is prudent to consult your doctor.

When you become pregnant your doctor should warn you not to change and clean the litter box for your cat. Cats who are allowed to be outside, or who were born outside, or whose mother was outside could have contracted toxoplasmosis and can pass it along in their excrement.

Toxoplasmosis is an infection that can threaten the health of your unborn baby. It is caused by a parasite that doesnt cause an illness to your cat. The parasite, Toxplasma gondii is carried by birds and transferred to cats when they are eaten.
About 80% of domestic cats carry toxoplasmosis after having eaten a bird, mole, squirrel or other infected prey.

The parasite multiplies in the cats intestines and then excreted into the litter box or soil outside. You can also get the parasite from eating undercooked meat from animals infected with the parasite.

Healthy adults dont usually suffer ill effects from toxoplasmosis and many times dont even have symptoms to suggest they have an infection. But if you become infected when you are pregnant your baby can also become infected. The infection can seriously damage your childs brain and eyes. If you have been infected between 6-9 months before you become pregnant (flu like symptoms) you will develop immunity and there is rarely a risk to your baby.

How will you know if you have Toxoplasmosis in pregnancy? Toxoplasmosis will cause flu like symptoms in yourself. Although blood testing is available for past or recent exposure it isnt routinely used unless its suspected during pregnancy.

There are several things that you can do to avoid contracting the parasite during pregnancy. If you have a cat at home and arent sure of his history (was he or his mom an outdoor cat) then have someone else clean his litter box or even have someone else care for the cat during the pregnancy. If for some reason you HAVE to clean the litter box clean it with rubber gloves and wash your hands thoroughly afterward. Try to have the litter box completely cleaned and filled with boiling water for 5 minutes.

If you are gardening outside or using soil in the house use garden gloves because the parasite is able to live in the soil as well. Wash your hands thoroughly afterwards. Cover any sandboxes you have in the back yard for other children because outdoor cats will use them as a litter box.

Toxoplasmosis in pregnancy can be spread by flies or cockroaches; toxoplasmosis that will spread through contaminated soil or cat feces onto food. Avoid eating raw or undercooked meat and unwashed fruits and vegetables. Anytime you are cooking you should wash your hands before eating either fruit, vegetables or raw meat. Avoid rubbing your face or eyes when you are preparing foods also. Toxoplasmosis in pregnancy can also be spread through raw eggs and drinking unpasteurized milk.
