Wow, what outpouring sympathy! Yes, policy may have been followed in this case, but really, people need to use the brains god gave them. Is it worth it to HD to forfeit another 24 hours use of their equipment or $35 to keep a $10k customer? The line of thinking followed by HD in this story is more the reason we're 'in the crapper.' I know large companies don't exist to do us any favors, but in some instances it can improve their bottom line. Give a little get a lot - or be stingy and get nothing. Please, by all means don't give the companies whose service you're displeased with your money. It's the most influential way to voice your opinions and change their behaviors.

This is such whiny crap–I can't understand people like this. It's like demanding that the grocery store refund money for the ice cream that melted in your broken freezer. This kind of entitlement attitude makes you realize why this country is headed for the crapper.

> Willy, this is not really a bad thing.. this is called fairness and justice. I think when companies just stand by their profits and do not use common sense and fair judgment and compassion that is when a country is going do the drain.. like what the bankers have been doing to this country.

I recently hired a floor sander from HD which had a faulty power cable connector.. I had to stop my work as it was faulty and the guy did not check it before giving it to me. I stopped and fixed it while I was paying them for rental of this item.. They told me that I should have just taken it back.. they were closed when it happened and they would not have compensated me for the loss of my time yet they are happy to take money for loss of their time very easily.

I just signed up to make a comment here..

I don't agree with all the people who say this is an unjustified request.

1. If I rented something to use but could not use it because of adverse weather or some other reason I have in effect not made any use of that item. The lifespan of the item has not decrease and also in fairness if the reason I could not use it was outside the control of either party the rental company and the renter then I think it would have been much better for the rental company (Home Depot) to offer another day at some sort of discount or something.

2. It is not the same as plants dying due to frost.. that is something the person who purcahsed the plant needs to do to look after it from bad weather.

3. Let me ask the other posters one more thing.. what if the renter decided that since they rented the item and it was raining but decided to use in in the rain and it decreased the lifespand of the equiptment would HD be happy about that? I think not.. common sense and fairness should be above greed and illogical responses.

This reminds me of when I worked in a garden center and people would demand their money back when bad weather (early frosts, etc.) killed their plants. Sorry, people, but we don't cover acts of god.

I do agree that it would be better customer service in this case for Home Depot to have given you your money back. Or probably what I would have done is kept your money but given you a "1 free rent" rain check.

Why did you rent the tiller if the weather wasn't good? It isn't HD fault that the weather wasn't good for that 24 hrs. There are alot of customers that feel like you do that HD owes them something just for coming into their store. WHY???
If you were in a business could you really expect to make all customers happy? And give credit for the most unbelievable situations because a customer thought it was owed to them because they were LOYAL? It is absurb what customers think we owe them. I would never go into a store and act like someone OWED me something for being a loyal customer. You should have never rented the tiller and listen to the weather channel the next time you need to rent outside equipment.
Go to Lowe's or Ace Hardware, I am sure later in your blogs you will have some comment on why you are not shopping there either. I wish customers like you would just work the 9 hr. shifts I do on the hard concrete floors and have to listen all day long to customer's whining, it is unbelievable. As I always told my kids when they were younger.."Thou Shalt not Whine nor ever expect to get something for nothing!"
