Life happens….whether it’s in operating your home business or living your life. How you react to the stresses and roadblocks placed in your way, will have a direct impact on your successful your home business becomes.

For instance, yesterday I headed back down to St. Pete Beach for about ten more days. My folks condo is exactly 121 miles – driveway to driveway – from our home. The drive usually takes between 1 1/2 and 2 hours depending on traffic.

It’s actually a pretty simple drive – Take the 417 tollway to I-4 to 275.

But it’s not always an easy drive. Yesterday it took 4 1/2 hours.

They’ve been working on I-4 as long as I can remember and that, combined with a rainstorm laid the foundation for not one – but two – serious accidents.

Rather than get mad because this was screwing up my plans, I first said a prayer for the people in those accidents and thanked God that I was safe, albeit sitting in an immovable block on cars. (I learned later that one of the accidents resulted in a fatality…I am sure that person would have be grateful to be in traffic for 4 1/2 hours.)

So, I tried to think how I could take advantage of this “bonus” time for myself.

I got out to meet my car “neighbors”. The guy behind me, Tom, said he makes this trip 2–3 times a week and it’s always bad. He’s in sales and mentioned that it just depresses him that he’ll have to do this another 20 years until he retires. Of course, he and I exchanged business cards and I shared with him that there are alternatives out there that may be of interest to him.

Couldn’t work on the computer, as I’d forgotten to bring my car adaptor. Then, I remembered the book, “The Success Principles” by Jack Canfield, which I’d just bought for my trip. What a perfect opportunity to start reading this book.

I had a deja vu moment reading this passage:

On Page 7, it said, “If You Don’t Like Your Outcomes, Change Your Responses” and gave an example of a CNN reporter interviewing people sitting in traffic after the 1994 earthquakes in California, where many of the main thoroughfares had been damaged. While most complained about the traffic and frustrated in their incapacity, one guy had a smile on his face. He knew there wasn’t anything he could do about the traffic, so he decided to take advantage of a situation he couldn’t change. He had a thermos of coffee, Spanish tapes (he was trying to learn the language), the newspaper and some CD’s.

So, what ingredients do YOU need to make Home Business Lemonade?

    * Know up front that just because success can be simple, it’s not always easy.

    * Be prepared for obstacles thrown in your path. Where are your weaknesses? What could go wrong? Who / what should you have at your disposal in case these obstacles show up?

    * Remember that your ATTITUDE has us much to do with your success as your talents.

    * Stick to your goal. It might take you longer to get there, but if you don’t take your eye off the target, you’ll make it eventually!

If you are someone who really wants to start a business, but is strapped for cash to start, here’s a potential solution for you.

Or…if you’re a networker who is tired of hearing the “It sounds good, but I don’t have any money” EXCUSE, here is a great place to steer your prospects and see if they are serious or wasting your time.

I actually found this website through a forum post which talked about good places to have audios transcribed into reports and ebooks. In reviewing the site, I noticed they were looking for transcriptionists on a per-audio basis.

Now, I have not used this company but, based on the forum comments, they seem legitimate.

There appears to be no start up cost and someone can do as much or little work as they wish. This would especially work well for programs costing less than $150 to start, as they should be able to amass that amount within a week or less.

UPDATE: The above link no longer goes to the site I wrote about above. Instead, it goes to Amazon’s Mechanical Turk, another way to make some quick money. I’ll be doing an article specifically on Mechanical Turk shortly.

Last week I had an incredible adventure in New York City and all of it was courtesy of networking.

Whether your business is under the network marketing umbrella or not, the art of networking is one that everyone should master.

The purpose of my trip was a business meeting about working with an international businessman opening several US-based companies. He found me from a mutual friend who recommended me to him.

Now I met this mutual friend at an Internet marketing seminar in 2003. I was attending – he was a speaker – and we became friends and business partners through the years. I was invited to the event from another business acquaintance. (Actually, she and I met when we were roomies at an invitation-only leadership conference.)

The second part of my trip was the mixing pleasure with business part. I have some very good friends who live in New York City and quickly made plans with them when I learned my evening was free. I happened to meet this couple through the same woman, but during a group cruise. (By the way, if you ever want to have a great cruise experience, I know the guy!)

A lot of people question attending seminars or other events. If I had not attended that event – over four years ago – many of my business dealings would not have surfaced. Because it was through the networking of all these individuals that I’ve met other people ….and on and on it goes.

If you are not taking advantage of networking events, start today. It can be a local women’s or leads club , or a national or international seminar. The power of online marketing and email communication will never replace the opportunity to meet in person, shake their hands, and look them in the eyes.

Thanks to my friend in Maryland. 6 Degrees of Separation Really Does Work – Put it to Work For You!

Act In Spite of Fear
by T. Harv Ecker

The formula for manifestation in our physical universe is known to be “thoughts lead to feelings, which lead to actions, which lead to results.” Most people have plenty of thoughts and feelings, but the breakdown for many seems to be ability to take “action.” The culprit, of course, is fear. That is why to succeed in life, you must cultivate the trait of courage.

Courage is “taking action is spite of fear.”

In fact, you can only experience courage in the face of fear. Fear is our greatest obstacle to living happy, peaceful, and powerful lives. The true definition of fear is “anticipation of pain.” Since anticipation is based in the future and the future only exists in our imagination, fear does not exist in reality. It only lives in our head. Therefore, it is our own protective mind that prevents us from taking the actions necessary to attain our dreams. As the cartoon character Pogo so appropriately states, “We have met the enemy and he is us.”

The protective mind is like an over worried mother. It is constantly creating “doom and gloom” scenarios trying to scare the heck out of us, in the hopes that we won’t try anything new. Its favorite words are “what if.” “What if this happens? What if that happens?” Even though none of these things have actually happened, and chances are none of these things will ever happen, this “soap opera” script continues to blare loudly in our head.

Unfortunately, we tend to take this mind trick as gospel, and our wonderful ideas of growth and opportunity become full of uncertainty and doubt. Recognize that our protective mind is not necessarily to be believed; that its agenda has nothing to do with making us happy or successful, but only to keep us in a place that is safe, secure and familiar. Unfortunately, many people wait for their fear to subside before taking action. Big mistake!

It is not necessary to get rid of fear in order to act.

It’s not necessary to “kill” the cobra! The more effective strategy is to learn to “tame” the cobra of fear by acknowledging the feelings and then taking action anyway. “Fear itself holds no real power over you.” You, and you alone, give fear its power. If you allow fear to stop you, it will. If you recognize it as the protective part of you, doing its job (far too well), you can simply say to your mind, “Thank you for sharing” and then proceed into action.

Realize that successful people have fear. Successful people have doubts and successful people worry.

The only difference between those who succeed and those who don’t is that successful people act in spite of their fear, doubt, and worry. So can you!

The darkness of fear begins to disappear in the light of action. Because your protective mind (where fear resides) lives only in the past or future, fear cannot exist in the present moment. Actions, however, only exist in the present moment, meaning that in the midst of focused action, fear dissipates.

The voice of fear is not you. It is only a conditioned ‘tape’ from the past projecting into the future. Once you can recognize that you are the one playing the tape and not the tape itself, you are free!

Ask yourself, ‘What would I do, if I absolutely knew I could not fail? ‘ The answer will give you a good indication of what you would do and who you would become if you lived based in heart and spirit vs. fear!

Where in your life are you letting fear, doubt, or worry stop you from taking the necessary actions for happiness and success? What would you do if you could not fail? From this day forth, begin to act as if you could not fail and watch as miracles unfold!

Declaration:
I act in spite of fear, doubt, and worry!
I take action toward my happiness and success!
