Who doesn’t love a good pizza?! The iconic doughy treat made its way to America’s shores in the early 20th century and has since earned a permanent spot in the hearts and stomachs of millions. Its impact is undeniable! According to The Washington Post, today Americans consume around “3 billion pizzas…every year.” If you do the pizza math, that’s 46 slices of “‘za,” every day, for every person in the country. With that many slices in rotation, it’s no surprise that sometimes we get tired of the same pepperoni, sausage, cheese monotony.

Here at Grubhub, we like options! And variety! So the next time you’re craving a pizza pie, check out this list of 10 unique pizza topping combinations to inspire your next order and get you out of that pizza rut.

Hawaiian Pizza

Topped with pineapple and ham, the Hawaiian pizza is obviously not of Italian origin. However, pineapple on pizza enthusiasts may be shocked to know that it doesn’t come from Hawaii either. This truly worldly invention of a pizza was actually created in Canada in 1962 by Greek immigrant Sam Panopoulos. Today you can find Hawaiian pizza all over, with the traditional ham and pineapple offering. But if you like a good kick, consider adding jalapenos for a truly umami pizza experience.

Italian Beef pizza

In Chicago? Perfect. Missing Chicago? That’s nothing a little giardiniera, a hot and tangy pickled pepper relish, can’t fix! When you order an Italian Beef pizza, you can expect the classic Chicago combination of thinly shaved beef, mushrooms, bell peppers and of course, giardiniera — all piled on top of mozzarella, red sauce and a thin crust. Cut into squares. If we’re being really authentic. Labriola Chicago does it right, order their famous “Richie’s Italian Beef Chicago Thin Crust Pizza with the works.

Pizza Bianco

Close your eyes and picture a pizza. Chances are there’s a red marinara sauce base, right? Well it doesn’t necessarily have to be this way. Pizza Bianco doesn’t use tomato sauce, instead, olive oil, garlic, and herbs are covered in a melty white cheese like ricotta, parmesan or fresh mozzarella. That’s the basic recipe, but feel free to get creative with the toppings. NYC is a pizza town, but Joe’s Pizza (The Greenwich Village Institution) has a great white pie with dollops of whipped ricotta cheese and whatever unique pizza toppings your heart desires.

Penne alla Vodka Pizza

Pasta ON a pizza? Now we’re talking. If carbs are your thing, try penne alla vodka pizza. As its name suggests, this pizza consists of penne pasta tossed in a creamy, tomato-based, vodka sauce and baked to perfection with bubbly mozzarella cheese and more vodka sauce for the dough.

Pesto pizza

Pesto pizza topped with fresh, ripe tomatoes and mozzarella is another delicious alternative to the traditional red sauce pie. Pesto is made from ground pine nuts, garlic, spinach, and a flavorful olive oil. It’s hard to go wrong with a melty white cheese and this flavorful spread as your base.

Mac & Cheese pizza

Mac & Cheese pizza combines two comfort food favorites for a best of both worlds pizza topping combo! Melty cheddar cheese, pasta and bubbly pizza dough is an amazing combo as is. But add bacon, or prosciutto and a fresh herb like green onion or chives to your order and you’ve got yourself a truly decadent pizza experience.

Buffalo chicken pizza

Buffalo Chicken pizza is the perfect thing to order when you’re craving something spicy. Like say, the buffalo chicken wings you were going to add to your order anyway. Order your pizza topped with spicy chicken, melted mozzarella, blue cheese crumbles and a drizzle of ranch for the perfect Buffalo Chicken pizza experience.

Taco Pizza

The rerelease of Taco Bell’s famed “Mexican Pizza” has brought the taco pizza back into the spotlight! But there’s no need to hit the drive-thru to get your hands on these trending pizza toppings. If you’re in Boston, you can order a pie from Alexandria Pizza topped with ground beef, melty cheddar cheese, fresh tomato, shredded lettuce, taco sauce and a sour cream drizzle. All the taco flavors you love on a pizza base.

BBQ Chicken pizza

Sweet tangy BBQ sauce, tender chicken, crisp red onion and a blend of mozzarella and cheddar cheese is a classic, though non-traditional pizza combo. This pizza was made famous in the 80’s at California Pizza Kitchen by chef Ed LaDou. Since then, its popularity has skyrocketed and it’s popped up on menus all over the country — much to the delight of BBQ Chicken lovers everywhere. If you’re in Philly, Brandywine Pizza has a grilled BBQ chicken with the most perfect BBQ sauce spiral – guaranteed sauciness with every bite.

Breakfast pizza

You’re an adult, you’re allowed to have pizza for breakfast! In fact, there is a pizza topping combination specifically made for breakfast. Order your pizza with scrambled eggs, bacon or sausage crumbles, a bunch of melty cheese and a sausage gravy base to take breakfast for dinner, or dinner for breakfast to the next level.

It doesn’t have to be Tuesday for you to enjoy a good taco or three. According to statistics, Americans are eating upwards of 4.5 billion tacos a year! This comes as no surprise to the average taco enthusiast. If you know anything about all the different taco styles out there, you know the options are plentiful when it comes to choosing what types of tacos to order.

Originating in Mexico, different types of tacos have been prepared and eaten as a quick, on the go street food since the 18th century. Since first arriving in the United States in 1905, Mexican-style tacos have been tweaked and remixed into countless variations, inspired by flavors from all over the world. These days, a taco can pretty much be defined as anything eaten on a tortilla.

But to really test your taco knowledge, let’s get into the classic types of Mexican tacos. Traditional Mexican ingredients and flavors are inseparable when it comes to the classic taco varieties. And while you may be familiar with a few different types of street tacos and the typical American cheese-lettuce-tomato style — here are 15 classic taco varieties that you just have to try in order to consider yourself a true taco connoisseur.

15 Types of Tacos Everyone Should Try at Least Once

Carne Asada

Carne asada, or grilled steak tacos, are one of the more well-known types of street style tacos, but that doesn’t make them any less traditional. Early Mexico is known for its cows and “cowboys,” so it makes sense that hungry ranchers would stuff grilled steak into a corn tortilla for a filling meal in a pinch. Today’s carne asada tacos still closely resemble classic recipes: Marinated skirt or flank steak is cooked over a flame and thinly sliced. Add a warm corn tortilla, cilantro, onions and a salsa of your choice and you’ve got yourself a solid carne asada taco.

Carne molida or picadillo

The mother of the classic American taco we all know and love. Carne Molida or picadillo

Tacos are made with seasoned ground beef and served in a corn or flour tortilla. You can dress them up the way we do stateside, with cheese, sour cream, lettuce and tomato. Or go the more traditional route with cilantro, onion, and red or green salsa.

Birria

Birria tacos are experiencing a resurgence of sorts thanks to popular social media networks. But in case you’ve never heard of this popular taco option: Birria is a flavorful, chile braised, pulled goat or beef stew that is stuffed in a corn tortilla, griddled and served with its own braising liquid or consomme for dipping. Typical birria toppings include onion, cilantro and, if you order it quesabirria style – melty cheese. Viva La Birria in Boston takes it a step further, serving up these flavorful braised meat in bowls, chimmichangas, tortas and burritos. Order now and get your birria tacos in less time than it’ll take to post about it.

Tinga

Tinga tacos are made with shredded chicken cooked in a spicy tomato-chile sauce. Tinga makes a great filling for flour, corn tortillas and tostadas alike, and pairs best with a tangy pickled red onion and a drizzle of crema to cool it down. As always, add as much or little cilantro and chopped white onion as you want.

Pescado

Typically, when you see pescado tacos on a menu, you can expect a flaky white fish that has been battered, deep fried and paired with sliced avocado and a tangy cabbage slaw. That is what we taco connoisseurs call baja style, named after its inception in the beach-side towns of (Mexico adjacent) southern California. If you’re in Philly, you can get your hands on these bright and crispy tacos from Iztaccihuatl for pickup or delivery with Grubhub.

Al Pastor

Have you ever walked into a Mexican restaurant and seen those big standing rotisserie spits full of roasted pork and caramelized pineapple? That, dear reader, is Al Pastor. The classic Al Pastor recipe is pork shoulder that has been marinated in an adobo-based rub and then slow roasted with fresh pineapple for a succulent, smoky sweet final product. Pair it with a warm corn tortilla, chopped cilantro and onion, and a salsa verde for the perfect taco al pastor.

Barbacoa

Recipes for barbacoa vary depending on which parts of Mexico you may be in. But in essence, goat, or beef chuck roast is slow cooked in a flavorful, seasoned broth and shredded. When ordering barbacoa tacos you can expect them to come with fresh lime, chopped cilantro and onion, and a spicy salsa. You can get these more elusive goat version of these tacos from Empellon Taqueria in NYC when you order now for pickup or delivery with Grubhub.

Chorizo

Not all chorizos are made the same, and the one you choose will determine the type of pork taco you’re going to get! Unlike Spanish chorizo, which is a cured pork sausage that has been seasoned with paprika. Mexican chorizo is a spicy, ground pork sausage that has been seasoned with red chile peppers to get chorizo rojo. Or, it can be made with green chile peppers and cilantro, which will get you chorizo verde. Both options are delicious, but you’re more likely to see chorizo rojo tacos on the menus at your favorite Mexican restaurants.

Carnitas

Though carnitas are typically reserved for weekends due to their long, slow cooking process. When you order from Carnitas Uruapan on Grubhub, you can get these tacos any day of the week. Carnitas are chunks of crispy pork that have been roasted in seasonings and its own fat. With you order carnitas mixtos, you can expect the chopped pork that fills your tacos to be a mixture of all of the best parts of the day’s roast. Crispy skin, chewy fat, succulent roasted pork all come together to make the perfect bite.

Chiles Relleno

Not to be confused with a jalapeno popper, a chiles relleno taco is composed of a smoky, roasted poblano pepper that has been stuffed with meat or cheese, battered and then deep fried. This one does not hail from Mexico, we can thank New Mexico and southwestern cuisine for chiles rellenos tacos. These pair best with pickled red onion or cabbage, crema and a salsa of your choice.

Every year on June 19th, communities around the country come together to celebrate Juneteenth. Also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, Juneteenth commemorates the day that news of the emancipation proclamation (issued more than two years earlier on Jan. 1, 1863) reached enslaved persons in Texas, the last confederate state to practice slavery.

Last year, on June 17, 2021, the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act was signed into law, making Juneteenth the first national holiday to be recognized since Martin Luther King Jr. Day in 1983. Since many of us will be off work, Juneteenth serves as the perfect occasion to learn more about Black culture and traditions, and support Black businesses by way of your fork!

Though the celebration started in Texas, as people have migrated to other parts of the country, so has word of the Juneteenth tradition. You can now find a unique local celebration in almost every major city in the country! A quick search of “Juneteenth festivities in my area” should reveal a whole host of parades, pageants, cookouts, festivals and events meant to teach about the past and empower the future.

Not able to make it out to any events? No worries, you can still celebrate Juneteenth by exploring some of your favorite Black-owned restaurants’ takes on Juneteenth food traditions. We’ve compiled some Juneteenth meal ideas you can order to kick off your holiday celebrations right!

If you want a traditional Juneteenth meal, then you’ve got to order some traditional soul food dishes. A hefty plate of BBQ or fried fish will do if you find yourself without an invitation to a cookout. While you’re adding items to cart, don’t forget the go-to sides: collard greens, candied yams, and baked macaroni and cheese. And of course, you can’t skip dessert! Be sure to grab something decadent like pound cake or banana pudding to round out your Juneteenth meal.

This indulgent comfort food has become a global favorite, but its roots are firmly planted in Scottish and Southern American culture. The Scots have been deep-frying chicken in fat since the middle ages, they then brought the method with them when they immigrated and settled in America. When enslaved Africans in the south got their hands on the recipe and combined it with West African seasoning techniques from back home — the crunchy, flavorful, flour-coated and deep-fried version we know and love today was born.

A traditional piece of fried chicken is marinated, seasoned, coated in egg wash, and flour to ensure a crispy crunchy coating – and then deep-fried to a crisp golden brown. Fried chicken aficionados know that a couple of dashes of hot sauce and a good biscuit are must-have pairings and can be found almost anywhere southern-style fried chicken is sold.

But whether you like your chicken with 11 herbs and spices, or prefer a spice blend all your very own, there’s no denying that the love for fried chicken is real with our Customers! We counted a whopping 2,782,872 orders in the last year alone. Everything from wings to tacos to tenders, and of course the sandwich wars that had your timelines in a frenzy — the fried chicken options are truly limitless.

With today being a holiday and all, we thought we’d present you with a few yummy deep-fried options to inspire today’s takeout order. Which is your favorite way to enjoy a piece of fried chicken?
