Yandex (Russian: Я́ндекс) is a Russian IT company which operates the largest search engine in Russia (with 64% market share[3], ranked eighth-largest in the world) and develops a number of Internet-based services and products. The Yandex.ru home page is the highest traffic page been rated as the most popular web site in Russia.[5]

Yandex was launched in 1997. Its name can be explained as "Yet Another iNDEXer" (yandex) or "Языково́й (language) Index". The Russian word "Я" ("Ya") corresponds to English personal pronoun "I", making "Яndex" a bilingual pun on "index"; another pun is based on yin and yang contrast (Russian: инь - индекс, ян - яндекс).

Now I tell you what, guys. Life becomes more and more interesting for web-developers, SEO-optimisators and simple bloggers. In Russia, they optimise their Internet sites for both search engines: Google & Yandex. Their methods are different.

What is really cool is Yandex Blog Rating that is updated nearly once a day. To get to the top is a really challenging task. If you want to get to the top, you have to start working on you blog to optimise it for Yandex today, unless you know how :-) Seriously, when Yandex will be mentioned on all the top-bloggers sites, I guess some of you would remember this very post...

A hint: a number of back-links is not everything, back-links have quality like wine in a shop. What do you prefer: 1000 back-links from porno-sites or 10 back-links from blog-posts devoted to the them your blog? Those 10 links are of better quality that is why your site will be more ranked. You can buy back-links (grey SEO), na-a-a, it wouldn't work 100%, Yandex has an algorithm of finding paid links, so those links will be excluded from SEO-results.

Another hing:
My main Russian-language blog http://blogion.ru/aussiebuck floats between 15 000 and 20 000 in all-Russian-language blogs rating. There are nearly 20 000 000 Russian blogs on the Internet. I'm good! :-) Soon, English-language rating starts... Beware! You have got someone who knows what to do :-) to become a top-blogger there ;-)

Tons of music can be found on the Internet and it exists as tracker-music files: it, xm, s3m and others. Why not make a radio based on that material? Just like Radio Sega, a radio broadcasting music that came from Sega platform. I will post a link when the project starts.

2) I nearly finished writing docs and FAQs for English verstion of blogowar.ru.
3) Thinking of paying money to a real programmer to finish my project :-)
4) ... This blog was excluded from Entrecard :-( due to inactivity :-( I hope soon they will give me my membership back.
5) I am going to start my own 24 hour on-line radio devoted to computer music.

But I have a problem with the last project. I still in trouble configuring my router. I need to broadcast my audiostream from local IP (192.168.1.2:8000/stream.ogg.m3u) to the IP, that my new Internet provider gives me...

Wish me good luck :)

The idea is the same: the members of the site submit news (texts, posts... it is a very wide meaning) and other members can VOTE FOR or AGAINST the news post. The site is a good means of promoting own blog, etc.
My dear readers, would you like me to start such a site? Leave your comments, please. Do you think it could be a site for friends only, who can become a member if he/she has an invitation. Any other ideas?
If I see that you need it, I will start it at once :-)

The values returned by a hash function are called hash values, hash codes, hash sums, or simply hashes.
Hash functions are related to (and often confused with) checksums, check digits, fingerprints, randomization functions, error correcting codes, and cryptographic hash functions. Although these concepts overlap to some extent, each has its own uses and requirements and are designed and optimised differently. The HashKeeper database maintained by the National Drug Intelligence Center, for instance, is more aptly described as a catalog of file fingerprints than of hash values.
A cryptographic hash function is a deterministic procedure that takes an arbitrary block of data and returns a fixed-size bit string, the (cryptographic) hash value, such that an accidental or intentional change to the data will change the hash value. The data to be encoded is often called the "message", and the hash value is sometimes called the message digest or simply digest.
---
2^2=4, sqr(4)=2: those are the two functions which are connected: if we know the result, we would know what was the data used.
If we use hash function we can’t find what data was at the beginning. So it’s good to encrypt passwords. If a hacker steals a base of hashes of logins and hashes of passwords, there will be no use of such a base.
Practically an example of a hash function which uses mathematical rules is rounding.
3/2=1,5-->1
10/8=1,25-->1
1.38*0.99=1,3662-->1

Do I think in the right way? :-)

One can use them on their blogs that are Entrecard members and get 25 ECs for every post just for doing nothing. I used such a technique for blogowar.ru and received good points. That blog gathered RSS from 4 or 5 news sites and published them on one site. So my blog could get up to 30 new unique posts a day. Very good for traffic from search engines! But there was a problem... Plugin that publishes posts using RSS from aside + hundreds of visitors were a heavy load on my hoster’s server. So, I had to pay and get to a higher tariff, where I could use more processor’s energy. (I hope you understand what I’m talking about, uptime, etc.) 5% was not enough, I paid for 10% and then for 15% which was a maximum. And it was not enough! The next step was to pay for dedicated server and use 100% of processor’s resources. Too expensive for me, so I had to deactivate the plugin at all. In a couple of weeks I got less and less visitors. Processor stopped heating :-)
The Project is going to monitor RSS of it’s members’ sites. Does it mean that it should be placed not just on a virtual hosting, but on a dedicated server? I guess it does. It’s not cheap so the Project anyway must have a commercial side. Ads on its pages first to cover the expenses. But no ads on members’ site, at least for the first 5 or more years, like it was on Entrecard. Or never if the first option would be enough to pay for a server. I hope this time would come :-)

I could do it in an old way: using a text file.
XML is a great thing, and now I know how to manage it in VB.NET. Though I am not good with databases, the best way is database. Here’s the quotation from “Beginning ASP.NET 3.5 in VB 2008, From Novice to Professional, Second Edition” by Matthew MacDonald.
You can perform many tasks with XML - perhaps including some things it was never designed to do. For most ASP.NET programmers, XML file processing is an ideal replacement for custom file access routines and works best in situations where you need to store a small amount of data for relatively simple tasks.
XML files aren’t a good substitute for a database, because they have the same limitations as any other type of file access. In a web application, only a single user can update a file at a time without causing serious headaches, regardless of whether the file contains an XML document or binary content. Database products provide a far richer set of features for managing multiuser concurrency and providing optimized performance. Of course, nothing is stopping you from storing XML data in a database, which many database products actively encourage. In fact, the newest versions of leading database products such as SQL Server and Oracle even include extended XML features that support some of the standards...

I have list of blogs’ URLs in a text file. Then I realized putting the links to an html-file. No I think that it could be a set of html-files: the main file, a sidebar frame and the main frame to show the content of blogs where sweet DROP can be found.
The structure is just simple.
You need two files:
main.html, which has a set of frames:
(sorry, I am using images, blogger converts it to real HTML code and It also doesn't see PRE-tag or something)
And the second file links.html, which has all your links like this
A navigating system is ready. Adding new links and removing broken links is on your own by means of notepad.exe. So I came up with an idea of a site that works just like a bookmarking system and has a similar (framed) interface. Someone who wants his/her blog bookmarked by others can get an html-code like “Add me to your drop favourites” similar to “Twit me” or whatever.
Tagging system, descriptions and all that stuff is not necessary for this project, just a convenient browsing system. Something familiar you can do using Entrecard panel for your browser. But I do not like it, it doesn't work sometimes and you have no favourites...

I do not know what program manages such a thing like local URL. Actually, I know, but I can’t do anything with that. I just can’t change it.
I have MS Windows Vista with IIS and Framework 3.5 installed. But where’s inetmgr.exe?
If I run a project under MS Visual Studio 2008 it opens a browser using local URL http://localhost:49578, which gives error “cannot display the web page”. If I manually change the word “localhost” into “127.0.0.1” the project works. Dynamic pages work fine. What I have to do is just to change Start URL in web-properties.
If I run a web-service with local URL like “http://127.0.0.1:49578/Service1.asmx”, everything is OK until it wants me to press “Invoke”, which redirects me again to http://localhost...
Is there a way to change localhost into 127.0.0.1 forever?

Namely two RSS channels: main RSS, which is blog posts itself, and RSS for comments. Unfortunately, not every platform has RSS for comments. So, here are two ways of managing the Project.
1) Exclude usage of RSS for comments from the Project to make its members "more equal".
2) Keep working on RSS for comments and leave comments as one of strategies.
The second variant is more preferable, because I think that the time the Project starts, every blog platform (ever blogger.com) would have such a feature like RSS for comments.

They have good features, benefits and such features that I do not like. I want to start a site like all of the services above. I am going to make my dream come true using VB.NET & SQL. Name of the Project, domain name, technical features and behind-the-scenes are to be discussed here. I call it “The Crazy Project” because I am the only (at least now) who is going to support it: write a full code for it and sponsor money.

Main features of the Project:

1) Free membership only. Free membership is equal opportunity in getting traffic. Entrecard.com has paid members to advertise their sites, it means that people who have more money, have more than others. What I like in Entrecard is getting traffic right after placing their code. Unfortunately, the purpose of browsing is to find DROP. It makes visitors remain visitors, not readers.

2) Point system. Points are the core of the system. Entrecard has one type point system, points are EC. You gain them and spend them. Blogowar.ru has many types of points, let’s call them “A-points”, “B-points”, etc. A member gets A-points and becomes higher in ratings, B-points are like money or EC in Entrecard. C-points are gained for some actions, etc. Such a mixture of points of different types gives opportunity to every member be at the top.
3) Project is a game. Yeah, a game! Just like Blogowar.ru where bloggers beat each other with magical weapons, buy anti-magic, etc. Bloggers fight against each other, get into clans, etc.
4) Multi-strategy. Every member can choose or work out his/her own strategy of getting point, getting to the top, etc. Tastes differ :-) Points are gained for posts, for putting links to other blogs (if you are a member of Blogowar it will be considered like a magical punch, you get points and the “enemy” loses them); clicking DROP buttons (the Project will have different DROPs), etc. In Blogowar if you write posts on you blog, a so called “traffic-flower” gets in blossom on your blog and your visitors have to click it to get it. What a source of traffic! Different types of traffic-flowers can be used for creating magic potions.
5) Better than others. Yes, the members of the Project should have more benefits than members of other systems. Why? The project needs its niche and defence capability to other multi-billion budget sites. More visitors, more traffic, etc.
6) Quality of traffic. Visitors that come to your site to click DROP are low-quality traffic. Visitors that come to your blog to read and leave comments are high-quality. Sezwho.com tries to play with comments, so the Project, probably, can acquire a couple of ideas from this system.
7) Simple! To install Google-Followers gadget to a stand-alone blog is a task. One has to download two files from Google, then upload them to his/her host and then add html/javascript code. For a simple user even if he/she uses a stand-alone WordPress blog, it can be a difficult challenge. Sezwho requires some changes of the template and sometimes it works not the way it should do... So, html/javascript added to a site is the only way for the Project. Well, even copy-paste mechanism can be difficult for some bloggers, but it is the simplest and most common way of integrating a site with a new system. Well, may be some day the Project will have a special WordPress plugin...

Any time the features of the Project can change. It's just natural :-)
