Can Quick Weight Loss Really Work?

Quick weight loss is promised by diets all the time. “Lose 10 pounds over night,” the ads will scream. Most people know in the back of their mind that quick weight loss is either not healthy or is a short term fix.

Most quick weight loss pounds are only water. Your body will flush water out of your system and the scale will show a quick weight loss of 3 to 10 pounds. The quick weight loss is however short lived. The second you drink any fluids your body will hold the water and your quick weight loss will disappear.

The short tem success of quick weight loss in a low carb diet is also this loss of water. Dieters are excited when they see the quick weight loss however this excitement is short lived. Once carbs are introduced back into their diet, boom, there goes the quick weight loss.

Instead of being suckered into all the quick weight loss claims, why don’t your try these common sense weight loss tips to use when dining out to help you achieve long term success. You won’t see a quick weight loss by following these tips but you will see some really great long term changes in your body.

If you must have a dessert, split it with a friend.

Start your meal with soup and a salad. If you fill up on healthy foods first, you may eat less of the high calorie entries.

Immediately ask for a box to go and place half of your meal in it. Not only will you cut calories but you now have an entire additional meal for later.

Ask for non-fat or low-fat dressing on the side when ordering your salad. You can then control the portion size.
A high calorie dressing can add 200-400 additional calories to your health salad.

At a fast food restaurant, always order the small size. Did you know a super size French fry at Mc Donald’s is 29g grams of fat and 610 calories??

Once again, these simple restaurant tips will not result in quick weight loss but if you start using these and other weight loss tips every day, you will start seeing the long term success you truly deserve. Always think long term and don’t be tricked by diets that promise “incredible quick weight loss”.

What is South Beach Diet

South Beach Diet appears to differ from other diets in that it does not rely on low carbs or low fat. Instead, it’s purpose is to educate people to rely on the right carbs and fats, and teach them to avoid the ?bad? ones.

South Beach Diet plan is not only for people who wish to lose weight but the ones who want to reduce cholesterol as well as decrease the risk of cardiovascular problems. This eating plan does require both determination and willpower like any other diet plan.

The South Beach Diet is not just another low carbohydrate diet. The idea with the South Beach Diet is to lose weight in a manner that’s healthy for the dieter. Unlike other low carb diets, it does this by having the dieter select between good and bad carb foods. For this reason a dieter on the South Beach Diet will often eat more fruit and even whole grain bread when compared to other low carb diets. The SouthBeach Diet is more balanced than many other low carb diets.

The South Beach Diet does not focus on just selecting low carbohydrate foods, instead, it focuses on how foods effect your blood sugar levels. This is measured by the glycemic index and this is what’s used to differentiate between good and bad carb foods.

Usefull Hair Care Tips

Hair is an important aspect in a person’s look. Every day almost every person thinks about what hairstyles to use or how to take care of his hair. The hair care methods are vital in having a great hair resulting in a great image. I will try to share with you some hair care secrets and advice that always worked for me.

Hair Care Tips

First of all you have to love your hair. You have to love it because it makes you look good, it gives you real advantages. But belive me that there are hundreds of people that hate their hair. And that’s not good because if you don’t like your hair then you will probably neglect it. You shouldn’t hate your hair because, even if it’s not such a beautiful type of hair like you see at other people on the street there are many ways to make it look real good.

Accept your hair for what it is. It doesn’t matter what kind of hair you have, thin, wavy, curly or stick straight, just accept it and respect it. If it’s curled than don’t try to straighten it. Using different damaging chemicals and methods to change your hair type it will practically destroy it. A person with curled hair will be desperate to straighten it up. A person with straight hair will surely want to get it curled. So try to make changes to your hair in the most kindly way.

Maintain your hair with pride and consistency. Depending on the length and style, have it trimmed appropriately. If you wear your hair short, have the style refreshed every 3-4 weeks. If you are growing your hair longer, have it trimmed every 6-8 weeks to remove split ends.

Choose a real good stylist for your hair styles. The styles has to respect your hair and all your demands and needs. Try too chose stylists recommended by friends.

Invest all the amount of money that you can afford on the best hair care products that you can find on the market.

Try to have as many activities as you can that are healthy for your hair. The hair is a part of your body and you should treat it well too. Exercise, eat well and avoid smoking and alcohol.

Try to pamper your hair once a week minimum. this means having a hot oil treatment or taking Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs). Also try to have a scalp massage as often as possible. If you treat your hair good belive me that it will respond.

All in all the hair is an important part in your body that should be well taken care of. Try to spend as much time as you can for your hair care.

Don’t Cake it On

There is nothing worse than cake-face, and heavy foundations are the last thing you need to be concerned with when starting school. Sure, you might look bangin’ during first period, but as the day goes on, chances are you’ll start to melt, and wind up looking like a hot mess before you even make it to gym class. Instead, opt for lighter, oil-free foundation which will ensure that you look fresh all day. I am so not a fan of mineral makeup for photoshoots, but for everyday wear, they can be a great option. If you have good skin, tinted moisturizers are super light feeling, but give you enough sheer color to even out skin tone. Just dab concealer over blemishes and your good to go!

Keep it Fresh-

School days are loooong, and chances are the makeup you apply in the morning is not going to last you ’til the end of the day. If you have any after-school activities, you can pretty much forget about it. Luckily, there are a few things you can do to stay fresh all day long.

1. Blotting Sheets:

These little things can be a lifesaver on hot days. I tend to get really shiny on my t-zone. When I was in high school I would constantly take down shine with my Covergirl pressed powder compact ALL day long, and at the end of the day my face felt so gross and thick from piling product on it non-stop. Blotting sheets solve this problem. Just press it on any shiny spot and it absorbs oil, leaving your skin matte without applying any product! The best thing is they are so CHEAP. Elf carries a pack of 50 sheets for $1! I use these on set all the time.

*Bonus Tip* If you are in a bind and all out of blotting sheets, book it to the nearest bathroom, rip a little piece off of a (clean) toilet seat cover and press it on your face. It does exactly the same thing, for free. I know… it sounds really weird and gross, but it totally works!

2. Primers

Using makeup primers are great ways to ensure you are getting enough longevity out of your makeup. I use primers for brides religiously because I am not always able to stay and make sure the makeup looks flawless all day. If a crazy bridezilla can keep her makeup fresh all day, I guarantee that you can too! I love Smashbox’s Photofinish Primer, it is a staple in my makeup kit. They also make a “light” version that is not as greasy as the original. Laura Mercier makes a great face primer as well. For eyes, I swipe Urban Decay’s Primer Potion on the eyelid before applying eyeshadow and it keeps the shadows from creasing all day.

3. Dry Shampoo-

I used to loathe gym class. Thinking about it still makes me nervous. My teacher used chase us on her mountain bike and threaten to “nip our heels” if we didn’t pick up the pace. Seriously, the bell could not ring fast enough, and when it did, I was sweaty, smelly, and my hair looked like crap.

Dry shampoo will save your life. Not really, but it is the perfect pick-me-up when your locks are not are luscious as they were 45 minutes ago. Spray or sprinkle the powder in your hair, brush it out and you can save yourself another day before washing. Use after gym, and your sweaty limp hair will be refreshed and ready for next period. I like and use Oscar Blandi’s Dry Shampoo (not the spray). Tigi just came out with a new one called Rockoholic. It’s pretty good and smells amazing, but the bottle doesn’t last very long.

*Bonus Tip* Baby powder is a super cheap way to soak up excess oils in your hair! Just make sure that you brush it all out ,or your hair will give off a gray hue and people might think you are prematurely aging. Not cute.

Prolong Your Summer Tan-

Everybody knows how bad tanning is for your skin, but let’s face it, it does not stop people from laying out. However you got your tan this summer, whether it be through frying in the sun, or slathering on self tanner, follow these steps to make sure your glow keeps rockin’ well into the school year.

1. Moisturize!-

Keeping your body moisturized will help prolong real tans as well as fake ones. Dry skin cracks, making your color fade much quicker. Lather on a moisturizer after you get out of the shower. Even better if it contains SPF!

2. Switch to Gradual Self-Tanners-

Once fall starts approaching, deep dark tans can scream fake. Switch to a gradual self-tanner and control the color of your skin. Gradual tanners also tend to look more natural and give you a subtle glow.

3. Bronzer-

Brush a little bronzer over your face for instant sun-kissed beauty. When applying bronzer, I like to only hit the spots of the face where the sun would normally touch: forehead, cheeks, chin and nose. Don’t go overboard or you can easily look dirty, not sun-kissed. I love NARS Laguna bronzer but N.Y.C makes an amazing bronzer for ridiculously cheap (like under $4)! It’s kind of an industry secret

Multitask-

Products with multiple purposes make my life a little easier, and I’m sure that you will be able to reap the same benefits! Add a little glow to your cheeks and your lips! These products do double duty, saving you some precious morning time.

Stila- Convertible Color: Lillium is a natural color that will brighten you up and give you a fresh look.

Nars- The Multiple: These come in 12 amazing shades. They are a bit more expensive but SOO worth it.

Benefit- Benetint: Give your lips a rosy stain and your cheeks a sexy flush.

Fake It-

Chances are you’ve been sleeping in all summer. Getting back in the swing of things once school starts can definitely prove to be difficult. Follow these simple tricks to give yourself that well rested look, even though you feel like hell.

1. White/Nude Eyeliner

Line the rim of your eyes with a white eyeliner and they instantly appear wider and brighter! If you’re feeling that white is making you look a little dated, try nude. I love using a nude pencil on models and actors that didn’t get much sleep the night before, and they love me for it!

2. Curl Your Eyelashes.

Using an eyelash curler can do wonders to make you look like you’ve got an easy 9 hours of sleep under your belt. Follow up with some mascara and you’re good to go!

3. Put a Little Color On Your Cheeks.

Adding color to your cheeks can make a world of difference to a dull complexion. It’s an instant pick me up brings life to your face. While you’re at it, dab some color on your lips too! (See “Multitask” Above).

You could be lucky. I was – just once. When my middle daughter was born I actually weighed 10 pounds less than I had when I’d conceived her. That’s not something you can count on, though, and I can tell you that from experience as well. Most women start their lives as a new mom with an extra 8 to 15 pounds that they didn’t have pre-baby. There’s a very good reason for that.

God designed our bodies with nurture in mind. Part of that weight that you put on during pregnancy was meant to nurture your baby AFTER birth. While your body requires an extra 300 calories a day to keep up with the nutritional demands of your baby during pregnancy, a breastfeeding mother requires at least 500 extra calories a day to produce enough milk and remain healthy. Your body stores up a little extra nutrition for after the birth just in case there isn’t enough food for its needs when it’s time to feed the new little critter.

If you’re breastfeeding, that’s part of the good news. You’ll automatically be burning an extra five hundred calories a day – which will make it considerably easier for you to lose the extra weight. In fact, you may not need to do anything special at all to lose weight. Just focus on eating a normal, healthy, well-balanced diet. If you’re not breastfeeding, you won’t find it quite as easy. Your focus should still be on healthy eating, with moderate exercise to burn extra calories.

Here’s more good news for new mothers. Exercising is easier. Actually, that’s not quite right. Burning more calories is easier. Walking alone for an hour burns 200 calories. Walking while pushing a stroller ups that figure considerably. Push a stroller uphill, and it’s even higher. You’ll get extra duty out of things you never thought of like lifting the stroller and car seat in and out of the car, carrying the baby up and down stairs and just plain carrying the baby.

Still, If you find yourself with stubborn pounds that simply won’t come off, exercise and a moderate reduction in calories is the way to go. Just like pregnancy isn’t the time for weight loss, just after pregnancy isn’t the time to stress your body further with severe dietary restrictions. Aim for losing about a pound a week, though chances are you’ll find it coming off faster than that. Being a mom is a high-energy proposition!

Folic Acid that helps prevent birth defects

The Government is considering adding Folic Acid to all bread except wholemeal at the milling stage.

Why Add Folic Acid To Bread?
As bread is part of the staple diet of most people, adding Folic Acid, will mean everybody will be taking Folic Acid, whether they wish to or not.

The people, who it is actually aimed at, are pregnant women. So by adding Folic Acid to bread, it could reduce the number of babies being born with Spina Bifida.

What Is Spina Bifida?
Spina Bifida is a serious condition where the baby is born with part of the spine not completely developed, so leaving the nerves in the back unprotected and exposed.

This defect can happen during the first month of pregnancy.

As the spinal cord is part of the brain … ie the nerves connected to the spinal cord are unable to send messages to the brain. This means that the baby may not be able to walk; and even the ability to learn may be affected.

It is possible to operate on the newborn baby to close the gap, but as the nerve damage has already happened, the damage is permanent and unfortunately an operation on the nerves is of no use.

Other complications due to the baby having Spina Bifida are that the baby may have problems with their bowels and bladder.

A close relation to Spina Bifida is Hydrocephalus (an accumulation of spinal fluid on the brain).

Is There Any Treatment For The Baby With Spina Bifida?

Apart from the operation soon after birth to close the gap, the best that can be done to help the baby to live as normal a life as possible is treating each problem with medication and physiotherapy.

Many individuals with Spina Bifida will need help of some kind for the rest of their lives. This may involve the use of devices, such as braces and wheelchairs.

What Is The Prognosis For People With Spina Bifida?

The prognosis for each individual is dependent on what defects there are:

Prognosis is at its worst for the baby born with complete paralysis. But with proper care most children with Spina Bifida can live for many years into adulthood.

How Many Babies Are Born With Spina Bifida? The number of babies born with Spina Bifida in the UK is between 700 – 900 per year; while in the US one in every 2000 births are affected.

Some countries have already started adding Folic Acid to their flour and this is showing as a drop of between 30 – 50% in babies born with Spina Bifida.

Who’s Idea Is This?
The Government’s food watchdog – The Food Standard’s Agency are putting forward the idea of adding Folic Acid to flour at its milling stage.

Although in 2002 the Food Standard Agency rejected a report put forward in 2000. So why have they changed their minds yet again? Maybe due to other countries that have been adding Folic Acid to their bread are showing a drop in babies being born with Spina Bifida.

How Much Is It Likely To Cost?
It has been estimated that the cost to industry will be around £700 000 a year.

Is There A Downside To Giving Everyone Folic Acid?
As people are being mass medicated this can cause concern for many. Also medically, taking Folic Acid can mean that older people with a Vitamin B12 deficiency resulting in Pernicious Anaemia may not be noticed immediately and so their treatment will be delayed.

What Can A Woman Of Child Bearing Years Do?
As many pregnancies are unplanned and it is being proved that a deficiency of Folic Acid may result in a baby being born with Spina Bifida; including Folic Acid in the food they eat should be a must have. It is highly recommended that all women of childbearing years should take Folic Acid in a Nutritional Supplement and eat plenty of green vegetables, as they are rich in Folic Acid.

By adding Folic Acid to bread it will hopefully result in less babies being born with Spina Bifida. And this can only be a good thing can’t it?
