An Extraordinary Preggy experience

A few weeks ago, I attended a meeting of a breastfeeding support group where I met the lovely owner of Mommy Matters, Ms. Candice. She asked me if I want to model for their clothes on a fashion show to be held at Tintin Bersola's baby shower party. Of course, I didn't even think twice and said yes :)

The event was held at Cafe La Carmela Makati

Hosted by the owner of Parentin.tv herself Mrs. Tintin Bersola-Babao. Such a pretty preggy :)

Part of the program was a 15 min-fashion show of Mommy Matters. My hubby took these videos for me:

TBS event: Bringing Back the 80's Favorites and Body Butters

The Body Shop launched the 1980s favorite Originals Collection with its new packaging last Friday. It was an 80s pop-themed event and bloggers had fun learning about these new products with the activities TBS team prepared for us.

Of all the products I've mentioned, I chose the Cucumber Cleansing Milk. I said that my pick was the Dewberry but on second try, this one got me hooked. I'm also excited to use my new body butter, the Wild Cherry :)

Reminiscing 2009

2009 is the most unforgettable year for me. There are gloomy days but all-in-all, I can say that God really blessed me this year.

Here are the highlights of my life this year:

January:

Pau and I got married January 31 teehee and we spent our Honeymoon in Bohol.

April:

I took makeup lessons at Basement Academy. One of the best decisions in my life.

June:

My mom passed away. 
I found out I was pregnant.

July – September

I started building my makeup portfolio.

October

Pau and I went to Cebu. One of the best trips I’ve had.

November – December

I got to do 4 weddings gigs. Awesome!

I know 2010 will be very challenging. OMG I’m going to be a mom! It’s scaring me the hell out of me but I’m so excited to meet my little angel already! Wish me luck guys.

I'm still alive blogworld! It's been a while since my last post I know. I had difficulty juggling between work, makeup gigs and pregnancy. Excuses excuses...excuses..

I'm just so eager to report to you guys that we now have a registered dealer of Occ cosmetics here in the Philippines. I've been reading/hearing a lot of raves about the OCC Lip Tars and wished to try them. And look what I have now:

One thing I noticed, it won't look good if you have dry/cracked lips so exfoliate and moisturize before you apply.

Aloha! With a very gloomy weather today, I was so tempted to just stay at home and sleep. Too bad I can't. Have to makeup for my absences last month ugghh. But after a long time...things have been manageable today finally!

This is not my first post about Amici. Some of you already knows that hubby and I love Italian food. But I've been trying to avoid fatty foods since I got preggers that's why when I got a chance to try this resto again, it was so memorable.

When my MUA friend Jean Gatchalian invited me for a makeup gig at ABSCBN, I can’t find any reason not to grab the opportunity.

We were able to sneak some shots during their photoshoot. These guys will soon appear on a new ABSCBN TV show so watch out for them.

Falsies madness!

I hope everybody's having a blast on this long weekend. As for me, at last! I'm feeling a lot better lately, my appetite is back (oh no!) and I don't have to go to work tomorrow. I'm satisfied with those for now :)

Back to my topic, I used to hoard falsies at Landmark. It's where I get the natural looking ones for beauty shots for only P35-50/ $1 or less. But tomorrow I'll be doing avante garde looks for a photoshoot that's why I'm badly in need of those heavy-looking, feathery-like falsies I see in the Avante Garde pegs. When I checked the mall for those, they're uber expensive. I can't even buy it with my TF for the shoot.

Heaven-sent, Oliver, my photographer friend who's the owner of the Artmovement Studio in Mandaluyong, asked me to check out an adult store in Metrowalk. Look how fab these falsies I found:

I was blog hopping yesterday when I found a post from Frances about Mio - a child who’s currently suffering from an illness. I met this child last year when I had a one-on-one makeup lesson with his mom, Jasmine Mendiola. Didn’t hear from them since that’s why I was shocked when I read about the child’s condition.

I know how hard it is to see someone dear to you suffering and it’s really heartbreaking when you know that you can do nothing --- but keep the faith strong and comfort that someone to ease the pain a little.

Let’s help their family pray for Mio’s recovery. Read Jasmine’s blog if you wish to extend your help to them.

One of my favorite topics in makeup school was Bronzing. For me, it’s is something exceptional and appears really good in photos. Here are some of my recent works:

Currently I’m using the following to create a bronzed look:

Dark Foundations
MAC NC50
The Face Shop Dark Cocoa Foundation
Dark 2-way foundation or Translucent loose powder if you don’t have one.

Shimmery Eyeshadows: golds/silver/shimmery white..etc

Shimmery lipstick: I don’t own a lot of shimmery lipsticks so I use a nude lipstick as a base then dab it with a shimmery eye shadow then lipgloss

Contouring: I use the darkest shade of concealer from Cinema Secrets.

Bronzers and Highlighters: I use Elf Bronzing powder and Paul and Joe face color 01

Super Black eyeliner: I use MAC BlackTrack Fluidline

Don't forget the falsies :)

I thought this is going to be a bad day coz it’s a holiday and I’m working booo! But my dad called this morning and told me that my sister is also pregnant. She and her husband has been waiting for it for years and finally. God is really good. We even have the same month due haha. I told my dad….”see how mom is so close to God now? Almost all of our prayers has been answered when she left”…My sister told me that my dad cried when she said those same words to him.

Review: The Body Shop's Cocoa Body Butter

Hi everyone! Work has been stressing me these past two weeks --- the culprit for the lack of updates. But things are getting better now thank God :)

Pregnancy update: I’m in my 12th week now and my belly is starting to grow. I still can’t believe it but look how huge it is now. Still not wearing maternity clothes but I bought a number of tights already.

I feel more energized this week. At least the “all-day-sickness” was reduced a bit. The only worry I have right now is having stretchmarks.

A few days after I discovered this great news, my niece told me to start applying shea butter or any creams which contains Vitamin E on my belly to improve my skin’s elasticity – thus, preparing it for its rapid expansion. It has been said that keeping your skin well-moisturized beginning in the first trimester may help prevent stretch marks.

The first product I’ve tried is Body Shop’s Cocoa Body Butter.

Product Description: Doubly rich for extra dry skin with a yummy chocolate-and-vanilla scent. An excellent moisturizer that melts at body temperature, leaving the skin feeling soft and silky smooth.

The product is thick and creamy. A little goes a long way.
Keeps my skin moisturized which lasts for hours. I apply it day and night.
Leaves my skin soft once it is absorbed by the skin.

The smell is a bit strong for me. My nose is a bit sensitive lately and I go prefer light scents. But I’ll keep using this till I finish it.

Will I buy this again? I can’t say yet if it really prevents stretch marks but I’ll update you guys soon. But so far, this product gives promising results. The only con for me is the smell so I might try the Body Shop’s Shea Butter next time.

Kenny's Roast & Grill experience

Yesterday, I helped out Pau's sister Kabbie with her wedding gig at Diamond Hotel. I was the one who did the makeup for the mother of the groom and bride. It was my first time to do makeup for older women and it was hard eeekkk. I was just glad it turned out nice. But I'm really going to invest on cream foundations from now on :)

It was a very cool experience but tiring at the same time. The bride did gave us food for lunch but I was still so hungry. I'm now eating for 2 remember? hehehe. So right after the gig, Pau and I headed to Powerplant mall to grab some food.

My hubby's not really into Kenny's. We seldom dine there when we were still dating. He said the amount of serving is not worth the price haha. But he just can't say no to a preggy girl who's craving.

As soon as we sat down, we were given the menu. It's not like the other chain of Kenny's where you have to line up for your order. But when we saw the price, Pau and I looked at each other and said "Watda???"on our minds haha. We just ordered, nontheless.

What we had:

Grilled Chicken Fillet - P285. Comes with 1/4 chiken fillet and 2 side dish. We were given the option to choose the side dishand the type of chicken meat. I chose white meat with mashed potatoes and penne and cheese.

This is indeed a better version. The grilled chicken fillet tasted so good, the mashed potato is herbed, and the mac and cheese became penne and cheese with bacon on top.

Seafood Primavera - P295. Thumbs up for the presentation, thumbs up for the taste and thumbs up for the quality of ingredients used.

All in all...yes we find it pricey and the serving...hmmm not too generous but when we experienced the taste of their food, ambiance of the place and saw how they put so much attention to the details..hubby and I say it's worth it. We enjoyed our early dinner there and will definitely try it again soon :)

A few days ago, I was invited to a gig by a group of photographers I met through my Multiply contacts. I asked them to send me pictures of their models so I could plan the looks I'll be doing and pack only the things I'll be needing. I got excited when I received them coz I've already worked with these models on previous shoots and thrilled to see them again.

How are you doing ladies? Thanks to Tish I've realized I've been neglecting my blog for days now. I'm so sorry..it's just that I've been feeling sick lately :-( I actually didn't go to work today coz I've been vomiting the entire morning. arrrgghhh it's hard but I want this :-)

Although I'm struggling a bit...and I can't even put makeup on my own face that much =) It's a good thing I can still do gigs. I really enjoy it to the point that I can endure all those I've mentioned.

Last Saturday, I was invited to a gig. A group of photographers named "Lensmates" was looking for a MUA because the one they've booked backed-out. So I went there without knowing what I'll be doing. All I knew was that there'll be one model and 3 layouts.

They haven't given me all the photos but I'll show you my fave shots:

Sir Buds of Lensmates told me he wanted the model to look like a Japanese (anime style). I really had no idea what to do with this layout. The only anime I've watched is Naruto hahaha. At first I planned to make her look like Chun Li of Street Fighters but she told me that the outfit she brought was school girl so I chose pigtails for her hair style instead.

A timid to alluring transformation

Bridal makeup II and an update

Another addition to my bridal portfolio. What I was most happy about was when I received this comment from Phantom Critic: Love the hair and makeup. Nice cascade of locks over the shoulders and great skin tones and eye definition. Thank you so much *teehee*.

A friend recommended his friend, Stef, to become my canvass for my bridal portfolio. A sweet-looking 22 yr old girl who I believe has the “it” to model. On her makeup, I concentrated more on achieving a flawless and glowing skin then put on the traditional color for a bridal makeup.

To create a flawless face, my fave combo: MAC Studiofix (NC42), Paul and Joe dual foundation 40 and Revlon Translucent Loose Powder. It worked with almost all of the faces I’ve done hehe.

Basco girls makeover

I feel like I haven’t updated this blog for so long…. Sorry :-( I haven’t been busy…all I did the past week was sleep sleep and sleep. And I feel sooo lazy…..if you read my post last week you’ll know why.

A few weeks ago, I went to my cousin’s house who’s into photography and invited my other cousins who really love to pose for a makeover. When the Basco girls unite….it is indeed hilarious!

Where is the groom?

Bridal-themed photo shoot – one of the concepts I’ve been wanting to do for so long. It was my first time to organize one. I thought it wouldn’t push thru because I didn’t know it would be a little complicated.

Looking for a studio – If you have a target studio, call and have it reserved a month before to ensure your slot.
Looking for a team to collaborate with you – (photographers, models, designers, hair stylists, MUAs). If you don’t have a big budget, look for a team who can do an xdeal with you. Give them a good proposal. If you can’t find one, there’s always a search engine you can rely on. Look for their portfolio and ask for their rates.

In my case, my sis-in-law who's also an MUA wants to build her portfolio so she shared expenses with me :)

3. Prepare your props – for a bridal-themed photo shoot, there should be a veil, flowers, shoes, hair accessories and jewelries.

News...Personal :)

More than a month ago, I lost someone so dear to me. It has been a painful chapter of my life. But I’ve learned to accept it already and I know that wherever she is right now, she’s happy.

Before she left us, I asked her to pray for our family’s intentions. Now I believe in what others say that when you lost, you gain something in return. Here's my news:

Yes you saw it right! According to my OB I'm 5-6 weeks pregnant. I really really need this after all that happened. My hubby and I have been waiting for this for months :). I posted this because I'm happy but nervous at the same time. 6 days after confirmation but I'm still in an astonished-stage. My dear readers, please help me pray that my baby will be healthy.

Food Chronicle 2: Oil and Garlic Shrimp Pasta

Have you guys tasted the “Oil and Garlic Shrimp Pasta” in Avenetto Pizzeria or in any diner that has this on their menu? The reason I ask is because imho, it’s one of the best pasta. Simple but oh so good :) Without searching for recipe, I went to the grocery last weekend and bought the ingredients I believe used for cooking it.

Olive Oil
Butter
Shrimps
Lots of Garlic
Parmesan Cheese
Salt and pepper

Here's the result:

And yes it indeed tastes the same. I’m proud of it. My taster’s (Pau) comment: You just need to add some garnish or any greens and we can already start a pasta resto. Hahaha

For those interested in trying this, here's the cooking procedure:

In a boiling water with oil and salt, place the noodles until cooked.
Saute garlic in olive oil and butter. Add shrimps until color changes.
Add the noodles and continue cooking for another 2-3 mins.
Serve with parmesan cheese on top.

I'm no expert in cooking so if you have any comments or suggestions, just let me know =D.

Another best part of our night out last Saturday was sighting Brent Javier. He was one of the hosts in the Bandafest event held at Hard Rock Cafe, Makati. I’m sure you know him if you’re a reader of Cosmopolitan(ph) magazine. He’s currently one of the sought after Filipino models.

Spotted Arnel Pineda at Hard Rock Cafe

Together with cousins and friends, I went to Hard Rock Cafe last night to support HedgeZero as they joined Bandafest, a band tournament for a cause.

One of the highlights of the night was when we saw Arnel Pineda. For some who do not know him, he's the current lead-singer of a popular American rock band named "Journey". Trully, he's one of the Filipino artists who makes us proud.

When we asked him if we could have a picture taken with him, he humbly smiled and said "sure". Thank you so much.

Filipina Beauty

The exotic features that make up the beauty of a Filipina is indeed something to be proud of. We have straight, black hair that tumbles down softly in waves against our shoulders. Our dark eyes gaze at you sincerely, captivating you. Our small noses don’t stand out from the rest of our faces, rather it seems the perfect finishing touch. And our skin color is just right: not too pale, and not too dark, just the perfect shade of a golden brown. - www3.niu.edu

Here's Cristal, a perfect model for the Filipina Beauty. She modelled for me in one of our shoots a few weeks ago.

To achieve this look:

Face:
The peg that was shown to me was a bronzed look but she doesn't want to appear too dark in the pictures so I just did a little bronzing. Use the darkest shade of Loreal True Match foundation mixed with a little Faceshop Dark Cocoa (great in achieving the shade you want). Set with Paul and Joe dual foundation 40 for a smooth finish then dust with Revlon Translucent Powder.

Eyes:
Line the brows with any dark brown e/s. Use a gold base for the eyes then deposit black e/s on the eye lids. Blend blend blend. Line the upper and lower lashlids with black eyeliner. On her, I used Urban Decay 24/7 liner in Zero. Curl and apply mascara.

Cheeks:
Contour cheeks and sides of the nose with Artdeco Bronzing compact 03. For the blush, I used a peach shade in the Coastal Scents 78 pc palette.

Lips:
Lastly, use a rosy pink shade of lipstick for a softer look.

Pink and Purple Evening Look

A month after our graduation in makeup class, I went back to Basement Academy to have a refresher in the “Evening look” subject. I want to master it and I need to keep on practicing to progress right?
