What’s funny is that last weekend, some friends and I went to the Justin Timberlake concert in Charlotte. I said that it would be awesome if I pulled out my bassoon (ala Ron Burgandy and his jazz flute) and started playing up on stage. My friends just shook their heads since they know me so well. It probably would have sounded something like this, but cooler and sexier since JT makes everybody look cooler and sexier.

And when it’s performed by a group of people who are invested in its success and want to do it justice, it’s pretty much the most powerful thing you’ll ever experience. I have no doubt that music is an integral part of Heaven.

Frozen Music Theory Flashback

So after looking up to see who wrote the music for Frozen’s “Let it Go,” Wikipedia has this for you music theory nerds:

“Let It Go” is written in the key of Ab major; however, the song begins in F minor until Menzel begins the second verse (“Don’t let them in, don’t let them see”) in Eb mixolydian. Finally, after a short modulation, the chorus launches into the original Ab major for the remainder of the song excepting the bridge, which is sung in Db mixolydian and Eb mixolydian. The song is in a fast 4 and has a tempo of around 137 beats per minute. Menzel’s vocal range in the song spans from F3 to Eb5.

And what’s sad is that I understand it. Thanks Mrs. Lee (my old piano teacher who drilled theory into me). LOL
