This modest wedding was taking place at Fulham so it wasn’t too much of a bother to get to.

I got there, where I was met by a friend and immediately set to work. The guest were migling ahead of the ceremony so I took a few shots while they were waiting. The room was quite small, so it was quite difficult to be invisible. Everyone was dressed to impress and even though all of them didn’t know I was going to be there, they quickly warmed up to me; mainly by me being a bit cheeky and telling some really rubbish jokes

Perhaps surprisingly, winter has as much to offer in terms of gorgeous wedding-friendly flowers as any of the other three seasons. Amaryllis blossoms are, for example, available throughout the winter months. Though these flowers do bloom in pink and purple, it is the white variety with deep crimson veins and a star-like trumpet shape that make particularly lovely seasonal additions to any winter wedding bouquet.

Snowdrops also flourish in the colder months and can be bunched together to make delicate seasonal bouquets or decorations. Gereber daisies also flower in the winter and come in a vast spectrum of colours which makes them ideal for any winter wedding colour scheme.

Slightly more unusual winter flowers include the anigozanthos which is available in yellow, pearly pink, lime green or deep red and nerine, which is a delicate bloom that flowers in either pink or white. Another great idea for winter wedding flowers is make most of the foliage naturally available at this time of year;  ivy, holly and red dogwood for example all make beautiful and seasonal additions to wedding bouquets.

I celebrated another birthday on Friday with my best friend. Then had another celebration with her and some more friends at the Thorpe Park theme park on Saturday and ended that day at my favourite curry house in Wendover. To cap off the weekend, we had a wedding shoot yesterday which quite frankly was great fun from beginning to end. At this point, I’m just backing up all the photos so I’ve not begun looking through them all yet, but I just wanted to say a big thank you to all my friends and to the newly weds Jeni and Ryan Yu for making this a weekend to remember.

In the modern world, regardless of the season in which flowers normally bloom and the weather it is outside, it`s possible to get hold of almost any flower at any time of the year. Sometimes this means the flowers have be cultivated in very carefully monitored greenhouses so that they flourish despite a standard sub-zero British winter outside. Other times this means having flowers flown in from a variety of exotic locations, where they have been able to grow naturally in an environment perfectly suited to them. Yet whilst the availability of every flower in every season is certainly impressive, it does also mean that we`re loosing a little of the charm that comes with having flowers that are only available for a few months of the year. There is also an assumption that beautiful flowers are only abundant in the warmer months, but Mother Nature has in fact bestowed us with colourful flowers throughout the year.

Many brides are now choosing to have seasonal flowers on their special day, rather than exotic blooms flown in from across the world. Not only do seasonal flowers respect the fact that there are bountiful and beautiful flowers available in our own country at any time of the year, they are also much more environmentally friendly and much less expensive than buying flowers not naturally in season. Here then is a guide to gorgeous wedding flowers according to the season in which they naturally blossom.

The season which somewhat unsurprisingly offers the greatest selection of blooming flowers is Spring. During the spring months a large number of flowering bulbs come into season, one of which is the tulip. Though perhaps not traditionally considered to be a wedding flower, tulips can actually make beautiful, simplistic and stylish bouquets, especially when tightly wound together by the stems. Additionally tulips come in a variety of different cheerful colours, perfect for a spring wedding. There are also many other beautiful flowers that bloom naturally in the spring, for example peonies, which are not only fragrant and attractive, but also very versatile. Many brides choose to have bouquets and other flower arrangements made from peonies whilst they are still in bud, which makes for a very stylish and sophisticated overall look. Alternatively, peonies are also delightful when in full bloom, making delightful bouquets which are rather different in appearance to the flowers when they`re in bud. For something still seasonal though a little unusual cherry blossom is a great option. Other flowers in season during the Spring are daffodils, honeysuckles, orchids, bluebells and hyacinths.

I arrived at the Registrar office with plenty of time, mind you thanks a woman who clearly hated her job I was lead in the wrong direction on the train. Not to worry, it is what makes life interesting. Because I was there ahead of schedule, I had 10 minutes to have a quick chat with a nice woman who clearly liked her job; she was very helpful. She led me to the garden at the back of the building where it is normal for the wedding party to have a few photos taken.

I returned to the front where some of the guests were already gathering. Everybody made great efforts to look fabulous and I was warmly greeted. Not long after the Bride and Groom arrived together and my day had properly begun.

It was clear that this was not going to be the usual wedding when I was told the reception would be held at a bowling ally in Brick Lane. I had never photographed such a place before so it was both exciting and challenging!

It was a fantastic day out, although long it was well worth the trip. I wish Sadie and Casper all the best in their big adventure together.

Gary played pieces of music that he wrote or rearranged. In fact if you’re reading this on my blog right now, then you can hear his music playing in the background. My favourite is the first track entitled Indulgence.

It was a real privilege to have Gary at the reception; he played a 2 hour session flawlessly and almost every commented on how great he was.

You are probably wondering what my point is, well I don’t have one. I just wanted to celebrate my talented friends by giving them the credit that they deserve… and he also happens to look good in my photos!

I had clients over at my home today, and what came out of that was the realization this is more than life and a job for me. I love it! Part of the reason I live it is because not because it is easy, but because it is difficult. Getting the detail is so important because those are little gems of moments that will never be repeated.

Take this shot above for example. To the outsider this is just and iPod sitting on a stereo, but to the bride and all those in the bedroom, it was the source of much fun, dancing and morning inspiration! I believe Abba and the Grease Soundtrack were playing for some of it!

Take note Male wedding photographer, never miss an opportunity to photographer the Bride’s shoes. I know first hand how much time and effort goes into finding the right shoot. For most of the day it will go unnoticed under the Wedding Dress, so while the Bride is getting ready ask to photograph the shoe and if you are lucky grab some jewelry as well. I only had 5 minutes to get a decent shoe/necklace shot but I think it worked out. Crucially I had a nice brown canvas to use as a chocolate backdrop to accent the subjects.
