For years, Apple has relied heavily on computational photography to improve the camera experience on the iPhone. While rivals often highlighted bigger sensors, higher megapixel counts, or unusual camera hardware, Apple typically focused on software processing and image tuning. That approach has worked well, helping iPhones remain among the most popular smartphone cameras in the world.

However, the iPhone 18 Pro could mark a notable shift in strategy.

Recent supply-chain reports suggest Apple is planning to introduce a variable aperture camera system on the iPhone 18 Pro series. The technology is reportedly more expensive than the premium lens systems currently used in Apple’s Pro models, but there are no strong indications yet that the company intends to significantly increase prices to compensate for the added cost.

If the reports prove accurate, this could become one of the most meaningful camera hardware upgrades Apple has introduced in years.

What the Camera Upgrade Could Bring

The biggest change is expected to come from the primary rear camera. Unlike a conventional smartphone camera that uses a fixed aperture, a variable aperture system can physically adjust the amount of light entering the sensor. In simple terms, the camera can adapt more effectively to different lighting conditions.

When shooting in low-light environments, the lens can open wider to allow more light to reach the sensor. In bright outdoor conditions, it can narrow the aperture to improve image control and potentially deliver more natural depth effects.

For users, the process would likely remain automatic. Most people may never need to adjust anything manually. Instead, the camera system would make decisions in the background to optimise image quality depending on the scene being captured.

The result could be better low-light photography, improved portrait shots, and more flexibility across a wider range of shooting conditions.

Why the New Lens System Is More Expensive

According to industry reports, the variable aperture mechanism required for the new camera system is considerably more complex than the fixed-aperture systems used in current iPhones.

Supply-chain sources indicate the component may carry an average selling price roughly 50 percent higher than the premium lens systems currently found in Apple’s Pro devices.

That increase comes from additional engineering requirements, moving mechanical parts, and stricter manufacturing tolerances. Smartphone makers have experimented with variable aperture technology before, but implementing it at the scale Apple operates can be particularly challenging.
Producing tens of millions of units while maintaining consistency and reliability is very different from launching a niche flagship device in limited volumes.

That makes the reported cost increase easier to understand.

Why Apple May Be Willing to Absorb the Cost

Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the reports is not the technology itself but Apple’s apparent willingness to absorb some of the added expense.
Over the past few years, smartphone innovation has become increasingly difficult to communicate to consumers. Faster processors, AI features, and software enhancements certainly matter, but many buyers struggle to notice major day-to-day differences between generations.

Camera improvements remain one of the few upgrades that consumers can immediately see and appreciate. A meaningful hardware improvement could therefore help Apple strengthen the appeal of its Pro lineup without necessarily relying on large design changes.

The premium smartphone market has also become more competitive. Manufacturers across the Android ecosystem continue to invest heavily in camera hardware, imaging systems, and specialised photography features.

By introducing a more advanced camera system while maintaining relatively stable pricing, Apple could potentially increase the perceived value of the iPhone 18 Pro without creating additional price concerns for buyers.

What It Could Mean for Users

If the reports are accurate, the real benefit may not be a single headline feature but rather a more consistent photography experience.
Many smartphone users simply want better photos regardless of the lighting conditions. They are less concerned about technical specifications and more interested in reliable results.

A variable aperture system has the potential to improve performance across multiple scenarios, whether someone is taking pictures indoors, outdoors, at night, or during travel.

Importantly, the upgrade would represent a genuine hardware change rather than another software-driven enhancement. That alone makes the rumour stand out, given Apple’s recent focus on computational photography and AI-powered image processing.

Why Apple Appears Ready to Spend More This Time

Apple is still many months away from officially unveiling the iPhone 18 Pro series, and supply-chain reports should always be treated with caution until the company confirms its plans.

Even so, the rumoured variable aperture camera is shaping up to be one of the more interesting developments surrounding the next-generation iPhone. If Apple successfully delivers the technology while keeping pricing largely under control, the iPhone 18 Pro could offer a camera upgrade that users actually notice in everyday photography rather than just on a specification sheet.

June 2026 is shaping up to be a busy month for smartphone buyers in India, with several brands preparing launches across premium and performance-focused segments. Xiaomi has already confirmed the India launch of the Xiaomi 17T on June 4, while Motorola Edge 70 Pro+ is also expected to launch in India on the same date. Other phones such as the OnePlus 15s, Redmi Turbo 5 and iQOO Z11 are also appearing in upcoming launch trackers.

For buyers planning to upgrade, waiting a few days could make sense as these launches may bring fresh options, introductory offers and possible price corrections on older models.

Xiaomi 17T Could Be the Headline Launch

The Xiaomi 17T is the most clearly confirmed smartphone in the June launch list. Xiaomi India’s official event page confirms the June 4 launch and highlights Leica branding for the device. Reports also say the Xiaomi 17T series features a Leica-tuned 5x telephoto camera, marking a major camera upgrade for the T-series.

Reports also say the Xiaomi 17T series features a Leica-tuned 5x telephoto camera, marking a major camera upgrade for the T-series.

Motorola Edge 70 Pro+ May Target Premium Android Buyers

Motorola Edge 70 Pro+ is another major device expected in June reports say the phone will feature a 6.8-inch AMOLED display with 144Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ support and up to 5200 nits peak brightness.

Motorola has been trying to build stronger visibility in India’s premium Android market. With a clean software experience, premium design and high-end display features, the Edge 70 Pro+ could attract buyers looking beyond Samsung, OnePlus and Xiaomi.

OnePlus 15s Could Keep the Flagship Race Active

The OnePlus 15s is expected to launch in India around the end of Q2 or early Q3, according to reports. It is also expected to follow OnePlus’s earlier strategy where a China-launched model is brought to India under a different name.

For OnePlus, this launch matters because the brand still has a strong user base among performance-focused buyers. A compact flagship with strong battery life, fast charging and a flagship chipset could get good attention if priced aggressively.

Redmi Turbo 5 and iQOO Z11 Could Fight for Performance Buyers

The Redmi Turbo 5 and iQOO Z11 are expected to target users who want strong performance without paying flagship prices these phones could be attractive for gamers, students and heavy users who care more about speed, battery life and charging than premium design.

This segment has become highly competitive in India, with brands trying to offer flagship-like chipsets, larger batteries and faster charging at mid-range prices.

Vodafone Idea Limited (VIL), the third-largest telecom operator in India, has a Rs 44 prepaid plan for the consumers. The Rs 44 plan will come with JioHotstar for the users. The Rs 44 plan is perfect price point for getting access to JioHotstar. The Rs 44 plan is a data voucher. If you are thinking this plan will give you service validity, well, you are wrong. Let’s quickly go through the benefit of this prepaid plan.

Vodafone Idea Rs 44 Prepaid Plan

Vodafone Idea Rs 44 prepaid plan comes with 1GB of data only. However, the main benefit of this plan is the OTT (over-the-top) subscription bundled for the users. The Rs 44 prepaid plan comes with free access to JioHotstar. The JioHotstar Mobile subscription is offered to the users for 28 days with this mobile plan of the telco.

The 1GB of data that is bundled will expire at 11:59 PM on the day of recharge. Users, as mentioned above, do not get any service validity with this prepaid plan of the telecom operator. There are no outgoinig SMS benefits either. This is primarily a plan one would recharge with if they were looking for a JioHotstar Mobile subscription.

JioHotstar Mobile Subscription for Three Months

If you want, you can directly purchase the JioHotstar Mobile subscription from the platform’s plans section. The mobile subscription is very cheap, and comes for a three months bundle. For three months, you will get the plan from the platform for Rs 149 only. Spending Rs 44 with Vodafone Idea will also get 1GB of data. Alternately you can also get data bundled JioHotstar Mobile plans from Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio.

Nothing, a London based consumer tech company, launched the Nothing Phone (3) in India in July 2025. In less than a year, the price of this flagship phone has dropped by more than Rs 37,000 in India. Mark our words, this is still one of the best looking phones out there. The device is still a great value phone for someone who wants a great software as well as a camera experience. Of course, you don’t get the best chipset inside the phone, but this phone is powerful enough to do gaming, record videos for a long time (if you are a creator), and features a large and a very smooth display. Let’s first go through the price of Nothing Phone (3) in India, and take a look at how it has come down in a time where all the brands are actually taking the price up of their phones.

Nothing Phone (3) Price in India

Nothing Phone (3) was launched in India with different memory variants:

12GB + 256GB = Rs 79,999

16GB + 512GB = Rs 89,999

The Indian consumers and the media did not react very positively to the high price of the device. Sure, it featured a cool design, but, it was not worth that price. That’s what the brand eventually realised, and has lowered the price of the phone. The price has now dipped by more than Rs 37,000 for more the base variant. Let’s take a look at the updated price in India in May 2026 of the Nothing Phone (3).

Nothing Phone (3) latest price in India:

12GB + 256GB = Rs 44,999 (white) and Rs 42,900 (Black)

16GB + 512GB = Rs 54,999 (white) and Rs 51,980 (Black)

So the 16GB + 512GB variant of the phone is actually down by Rs 38,000, in fact.

Nothing Phone (3) Specifications in India

Nothing Phone (3) features a large 6.67-inch 1.5K resolution, 120Hz AMOLED flexible LTPS display. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 SoC coupled with up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. In the camera department, there’s a 50MP periscope camera comes with OIS, 50MP primary camera with OIS, and a third 50MP camera. For selfies also, there’s a 50MP camera at the front of the device.

The phone (3) packs a 5000mAh battery for the consumers and will get 5 years of OS updates and seven years of security updates. So this phone is good for you even beyond 2030 when it comes to software alone.

Nothing Phone (3): Honest Thoughts

It is definitely a phone which stands out. If you have ever wondered of getting a cool phone, this phone can be at the top of your list. Nothing will not launch a flagship phone in 2026, and thus, the Phone (3) will be safe for you as a flagship for one more year to come.

The latest software update on the OnePlus Nord 6, OnePlus Nord CE 6 adds Motion Cues, May 2026 Android security patch, and system-level improvements for battery, camera, network and stability. OnePlus is rolling out a new software update for the OnePlus Nord 6 and OnePlus Nord CE 6, bringing a feature that is more practical than flashy. The key addition in the latest update is Motion Cues, a feature designed to reduce motion sickness when users look at their phones while travelling in a moving vehicle.

The update also includes the May 2026 Android security patch, along with improvements to system stability, battery life, camera performance and network compatibility. The update appears to be rolling out with software version CPH2805_16.0.5.901 for one model and CPH2793_16.0.5.901 for another, with the Nord CE 6 update package shown at around 1.63GB. As usual, the rollout may happen in phases, which means not every user may receive the update at the same time.

Motion Cues Is the Main Addition for OnePlus Nord 6, OnePlus Nord CE 6 5G

The biggest new feature in this update is Motion Cues. Once enabled, the feature shows small dots on the screen that move based on the motion of the vehicle. These dots respond to acceleration, braking and turns, helping the user’s brain process movement more naturally while using the phone.

For users who feel uncomfortable reading messages, browsing social media or watching content while sitting in a car or bus, Motion Cues could be useful. The idea is simple. When the eyes are fixed on the phone screen but the body feels movement, some users experience motion sickness. By showing visual movement indicators on the display, the phone gives the brain additional motion context.

OnePlus says the feature can be found under Settings > Accessibility & convenience > Motion cues. The screenshots show that users can turn the feature on or off with a simple toggle.

Battery, Camera and Network Improvements

Apart from Motion Cues, the update also brings a set of regular system improvements. For the OnePlus Nord 6, the changelog mentions reduced power consumption to extend battery life. This should help improve efficiency, though the real-world impact will depend on usage patterns.

The update also improves system stability and performance. These are standard update notes, but they matter because mid-range devices are often judged by how smooth and reliable they feel after months of usage. OnePlus has also mentioned camera performance and stability improvements, along with better network stability and compatibility.

Another important fix mentioned in the changelog is for an issue where the screen might turn black after the device is unlocked. For users facing this problem, the update should bring relief.

Reliance Jio, India’s largest telecom operator, has filed over 6817 patents in total as of March 31, 2026. These are a huge amount of patents, and out of the total, 2393 were filed in India, said a report from Reliance Industries Limited (RIL). The remaining 4424 patents were filed outside in foreign jurisdictions. Again, out of the total, 1009 patents have been granted globally, comprising 538 grants in India and 471 across foreign jurisdictions. Reliance Jio is not only the largest telecom operator in the country, but it is also becoming one of the largest intellectual property creators in the country, and globally.

The company’s focus remains on distributing affordable network connectivity services, along with the expansion of 5G, and the launch of 6G in the future. Reliance Jio is also trying to become a global tech provider by launching its own gear, however, that side of the business is yet to make a material impact in the business revenues of the telco.

In FY2025-26 alone, the report said that Jio filed approximately 3476 new patents. This translates to about 10 patents in day, which is huge. Jio has patents across technology such as 6G, 5G, AI-LLM, AI-Deep Learning, Big Data, Devices, IoT, NB-IoT, and homegrown 5G stack technologies.

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) Chairman and Managing Director, Mukesh Ambani, said at the 2024 AGM (annual general meet), “Reliance has now become a net producer of technology…Reliance internalised this Vikas Mantra at every stage of our growth. In recent years, this mantra is transforming Reliance into a Deep-Tech company with Advance Manufacturing capabilities.”

This statement is now becoming true. Jio is definitely becoming a net producer of technology. This is not only a good sign for the retail investors looking to get a stake in Jio, but also for India, which is looking to become a export first nation. With indigenous telecom stack and technology, India is poised to grow its economy multiplefolds in the coming years.

Reliance Industries Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani has said that India is witnessing a once-in-a-generation transformation powered by technology, artificial intelligence (AI), digital connectivity, and energy transition, with Jio set to play a pivotal role in shaping the country’s digital future.

In his statement to shareholders on May 27, 2026, Ambani said the world is undergoing rapid change as industries, technologies, and nations are being fundamentally reshaped. “Global supply chains are being reconfigured. The energy transition is accelerating. The exponential rise of data and artificial intelligence is reshaping the architecture of the modern world. In such moments, history is not inherited—it is created,” he said.

India as a Global Technology Power

He noted that India is no longer merely participating in the global economy but increasingly shaping it, driven by scale, demographic strength, digital depth, and entrepreneurial energy.

“India stands at the forefront of this transformation. With its scale, demographic strength, digital depth, and entrepreneurial energy, India is not merely participating in the global economy—it is increasingly shaping it. Our aspiration of Atmanirbharta is now evolving into global leadership,” he said.

According to Ambani, Reliance has consistently prepared for these transitions by investing ahead of the curve and building capabilities aligned with India’s national priorities.

“Reliance was built for moments like these. We do not follow change—we build for it, ahead of it,” Ambani said.

“This is India’s decade—not by chance, but by choice and conviction. Reliance was built on this belief. Reliance was built to serve India—and to scale with its aspirations,” he added.

Jio’s Next Phase: From Telecom to Global Tech Platform

A major focus of the address was the future of Jio, which Ambani described as one of the most significant corporate transformations in India’s history. He said Jio’s journey is still unfolding as the company evolves into a global technology leader.

“As Jio evolves into a global technology leader, we are taking deliberate steps to strengthen its institutional framework, enhance transparency, and prepare it for the opportunities ahead,” Ambani said, adding, “We will continue to evaluate strategic pathways that can broaden stakeholder participation and support Jio’s long-term growth, always guided by the principle of sustainable value creation.”

“Our vision is clear: to position Jio at the forefront of the global digital revolution—driving innovation across connectivity, artificial intelligence, cloud, and digital services,” he said.

Highlighting the telecom and technology platform’s broader national role, Ambani stated, “From connecting India to empowering India, Jio is now poised to help lead India into the digital future.”

The Reliance chairman also stressed that despite expansion across energy, digital, and consumer platforms, the company’s vision remains rooted in India. “As we expand across energy, digital, and consumer platforms, we remain anchored in a simple truth: Our vision is global, but our purpose remains deeply Indian,” he said.

Reliance Intelligence and Sovereign AI

On artificial intelligence, Ambani announced that Reliance has launched “Reliance Intelligence” with the aim of democratizing AI and ensuring that sovereign AI capabilities are designed, developed, and scaled in India while being made accessible to individuals, enterprises, and institutions.

“In the age of intelligence, we have initiated Reliance Intelligence with a singular vision: to ensure that the power of artificial intelligence is not concentrated, but democratised. We aspire to create sovereign AI capabilities that are designed in India, scaled in India, and made accessible to every Indian—empowering individuals, enterprises, and institutions alike,” Ambani said.

Green Energy Push

In the energy sector, he described the Dhirubhai Ambani Green Energy Giga Complex as a defining initiative representing India’s transition toward clean, secure, and affordable energy. The project integrates solar photovoltaic manufacturing, energy storage, and green energy infrastructure to strengthen India’s energy independence.

Retail and Media Expansion

Ambani also highlighted Reliance Retail’s expanding role in reshaping India’s consumer economy. He said the retail business is redefining how Indians buy, consume, and experience products and services, while Reliance’s media and digital platforms continue to transform storytelling and customer engagement.

JioHotstar

“Our media platform, JioHotstar, is reimagining storytelling for a Billion voices—bringing together technology, creativity, and cultural relevance to shape how India experiences content,” Ambani said speaking about OTT platform, JioHotstar.

Financial Performance

“Our financial performance reflects not just growth, but the strength and discipline that underpin it.”

“RIL has become the first Indian company to cross USD 10 billion in annual net profit.”

Reliance Industries reported strong financial performance for FY 2025-26, recording consolidated revenues of Rs 11,75,919 crore, EBITDA of Rs 2,07,911 crore, and net profit of Rs 95,754 crore. Ambani said the results reflect the company’s financial discipline, execution capabilities, and resilience amid global uncertainty.

He also underlined the company’s responsibility toward sustainability and inclusive growth, noting that artificial intelligence and the global energy transition will shape not just economies but also the quality of life for generations to come.

“True leadership is measured not just by growth, but by impact,” Ambani said, while reiterating Reliance’s commitment to building sustainable businesses, creating opportunities, and ensuring that growth remains aligned with the interests of society and the environment.

Reaffirming Reliance’s long-term philosophy, Ambani concluded, “What is good for India is good for Reliance. The story of India’s rise will be written in this decade—and we intend to contribute significantly towards its most defining chapters.”

The market for true wireless stereo (TWS) earphones in India has become increasingly competitive over the past few years. Features that were once limited to premium earbuds, such as active noise cancellation, improved call quality, low-latency gaming modes and extended battery life, have gradually made their way into more affordable products. As a result, buyers no longer need to spend a significant amount of money to enjoy a reliable wireless audio experience.

With dozens of options available across online and offline channels, choosing the right pair can sometimes be confusing. If your budget is capped at Rs 2,500, there are several strong contenders that offer a good balance of sound quality, battery life, comfort and everyday usability. Prices may vary depending on ongoing offers and discounts, so it is always worth checking the latest pricing before making a purchase.

1. OnePlus Nord Buds 3

The OnePlus Nord Buds series has earned a reputation for offering dependable performance without stretching the budget. The Nord Buds 3 stand out for their balanced sound profile, comfortable fit, active noise cancellation support and feature-rich experience. They are designed for users who want a reliable pair of earbuds for music, video streaming and daily communication without making major compromises.

2. CMF Buds 2a

CMF, the budget-focused brand from Nothing, has quickly attracted attention in the Indian audio market. The CMF Buds 2a offer a modern design, punchy sound signature and useful software features. They are particularly appealing to younger users who want stylish earbuds that also deliver a solid audio experience for everyday listening.

3. Realme Buds T200 Lite

Realme continues to be aggressive in the budget audio category and the Buds T200 Lite reflect that strategy. These earbuds focus on delivering dependable performance, stable wireless connectivity and good battery life. For students and professionals looking for affordable earbuds for daily use, the T200 Lite remains a practical option.

4. OPPO Enco Buds 2

OPPO’s Enco line-up has consistently received positive feedback for comfort and call quality. The Enco Buds 2 are known for balanced sound, dependable battery performance and reliable microphone quality. They are particularly suitable for users who spend a lot of time on voice calls, online meetings and video conversations.

5. Redmi Buds Series

Redmi continues to offer competitive products in the budget TWS segment. Its earbuds generally combine practical features, long battery life and stable connectivity. For users already familiar with Xiaomi’s ecosystem, Redmi Buds can be a straightforward choice that delivers solid value without unnecessary complexity.

6. Noise Buds Series

Noise has emerged as one of India’s most popular wearable and audio brands. Several models in its Buds line-up fall comfortably below the Rs 2,500 mark and often include features such as environmental noise cancellation for calls, gaming modes and long battery life. They are aimed at buyers who want the maximum number of features at an affordable price.

7. boAt Airdopes Series

The boAt Airdopes range remains one of the most recognisable names in India’s TWS market. While individual models change frequently, the overall focus remains on delivering strong battery life, bass-heavy sound and competitive pricing. For users who primarily consume music, videos and entertainment content, Airdopes models continue to offer good value.

What Should Buyers Look For?

Price is naturally an important factor, but it should not be the only consideration when purchasing TWS earphones. Battery life remains one of the most important aspects, particularly for users who travel frequently or spend long periods away from charging points.

Call quality has also become increasingly important. Many budget earbuds now include environmental noise cancellation technologies designed to improve voice clarity during calls. Gamers may want to pay attention to low-latency modes that reduce audio delay during gameplay.

Comfort is another factor that should not be overlooked. Even the best-sounding earbuds can become frustrating if they are uncomfortable to wear for extended periods. A lightweight design and secure fit can significantly improve the overall user experience.

It is also worth checking whether the earbuds support a companion app, customisable controls, fast charging and water or sweat resistance. These features can make a noticeable difference in day-to-day use.

Choosing the Right TWS Earphones

The good news for buyers is that the budget TWS segment has matured significantly over the past few years. Spending under Rs 2,500 no longer means making major compromises on sound quality, battery life or everyday usability. Features that were once available only in premium earbuds have gradually made their way into more affordable products, giving consumers far more choice than before.

For users looking for an all-round package, the OnePlus Nord Buds 3 and CMF Buds 2a stand out as strong contenders thanks to their balanced mix of sound quality, features and design. Buyers who prioritise value can also consider options from Realme, Noise, Redmi, OPPO and boAt, all of which offer compelling products within this price range.

Ultimately, the right choice depends on what matters most to you. Some users may prioritise battery life for long commutes, while others may focus on call quality, gaming performance or music playback. Before making a purchase, it is worth comparing features and checking current prices, as discounts and offers frequently change in the budget audio segment.

What is clear, however, is that buyers no longer need to spend a premium amount to enjoy a good true wireless audio experience. The TWS market under Rs 2,500 has become highly competitive, and that competition is benefiting consumers with better products, more features and greater value than ever before.

India is emerging as one of the fastest-growing markets for OpenAI’s Codex, with the company revealing that weekly active users in the country have increased 27 times since the start of 2026. The update was shared by OpenAI on the sidelines of Mumbai Tech Week and highlights the growing role of AI-powered tools among developers, startups and professionals across India.

According to OpenAI, daily interactions with Codex in India have also grown significantly, rising more than 20 times by late April compared to the beginning of the year. The company said India is now among the top five countries globally for Codex adoption and among the top ten for overall engagement.

Codex Is Expanding Beyond Software Development

While Codex is widely known as a tool that helps developers write and work with code, OpenAI says its use in India is expanding well beyond software development. More than a quarter of Codex requests from Indian users are now related to non-coding tasks.

Users are increasingly relying on the platform to synthesise information, draft documents, automate research tasks and organise workflows and communication. The trend suggests that AI tools are becoming useful across a broader range of professional activities rather than being limited to programming alone.

The latest figures build on data previously shared by OpenAI, which indicated that India is already one of the world’s most active markets for advanced AI usage. Earlier findings showed that Codex use for coding tasks in India was around three times the global average, while coding-related questions were nearly three times the global median.

OpenAI Sees Adoption Across Multiple User Groups

OpenAI believes the latest growth reflects how AI adoption is spreading across different user groups in India. While developers remain a key part of the Codex user base, the company says founders, operators, researchers, students and business teams are increasingly turning to AI tools to help turn ideas into practical outcomes more quickly.

Commenting on the trend, Thomas Jeng, Head of Startups APAC at OpenAI, said adoption in India is no longer limited to software engineers. He noted that users across different professions are increasingly using Codex to move from intent to execution faster, adding that India’s strong builder culture is contributing to the rapid pace of adoption.

Enterprise Adoption Is Supporting Growth

OpenAI also highlighted the role of India’s growing builder ecosystem and enterprise adoption in supporting Codex growth. The company has previously announced Codex-related collaborations in India with organisations including TCS, Infosys and Razorpay across software engineering and enterprise workflows.

The latest data points to a broader shift in how AI tools are being used in India. While coding remains a major use case, OpenAI says a growing share of users are now applying Codex to everyday work, research and productivity tasks, reflecting the expanding role of AI across the country’s technology and business landscape.

Once dismissed as a relic of the pre-AirPods era, wired earphones are attracting renewed attention as consumers rediscover the value of simplicity, reliability, affordability, and a listening experience that does not depend on batteries. Not very long ago, wired earphones appeared to be heading towards extinction as smartphone brands steadily removed the 3.5mm headphone jack from their devices and encouraged consumers to embrace wireless audio, the industry’s direction seemed firmly set.

Products such as Apple’s AirPods transformed wireless earbuds from a premium accessory into an everyday gadget, while improvements in Bluetooth technology made cable-free listening more convenient than ever before. For several years, it seemed only a matter of time before wired earphones would become a niche product used primarily by audiophiles and a shrinking group of loyal users who simply preferred the old way of doing things.

That prediction, however, has not entirely come true while wireless earbuds continue to dominate the market and remain the preferred choice for millions of consumers, wired earphones have quietly started finding their way back into the conversation.

The renewed interest has become increasingly visible across social media discussions, technology forums, and consumer culture, where a growing number of users are questioning whether the shift towards wireless audio delivered as many advantages as the industry promised the trend gained additional attention after technology creator Mrwhosetheboss highlighted the phenomenon in a recent video, but the underlying reasons behind the resurgence run much deeper than a single viral moment.

What appears to be happening is less a rejection of wireless technology and more a reassessment of priorities after spending years chasing convenience, consumers are beginning to place greater value on reliability, simplicity, longevity, and overall value for money. In that context, wired earphones are no longer being viewed merely as outdated accessories from a previous era of smartphones. Instead, they are increasingly being recognised as practical devices that continue to solve everyday problems without demanding constant charging, software updates, or replacement every few years.

Years of Living With Wireless Earbuds Have Made Some Consumers Miss Simplicity

The popularity of wireless earbuds was built on solving genuine frustrations that consumers had lived with for years. Tangled cables, damaged connectors, and wires getting caught on bags or clothing were common complaints, making the arrival of wireless audio feel like a natural evolution.
As Bluetooth technology improved and manufacturers refined their products, wireless earbuds became smaller, smarter, and more reliable, while features such as active noise cancellation, transparency modes, and seamless device switching further strengthened their appeal. For many consumers, moving to wireless audio felt less like an upgrade and more like an inevitability.

Yet the longer consumers have lived with wireless products, the more they have become aware of the compromises that accompany that convenience. Batteries need charging, charging cases need carrying, and battery health inevitably declines over time many users have experienced the frustration of preparing for a journey, an online meeting, or a workout only to discover that their earbuds are running low on power.

Others have dealt with misplaced earbuds, unexpected Bluetooth issues, or devices that require troubleshooting when all they wanted to do was listen to music. While none of these inconveniences are serious enough to make people abandon wireless audio altogether, they have helped create a renewed appreciation for products that simply work the moment they are plugged in.

In a world where smartphones, smartwatches, laptops, tablets, and even smart rings compete for charging time and attention, the appeal of a device that requires no battery management is becoming easier to understand. Wired earphones may not offer the same freedom of movement, but they deliver something many consumers are beginning to value again: predictability.

Reliability Has Become More Valuable Than Many People Realise

Technology companies often compete by adding new features, but consumers do not always make decisions based solely on specification sheets. In many situations, reliability matters more than innovation a student attending an online lecture, a professional joining an important video call, a gamer relying on low-latency audio, or a content creator editing video footage all have one thing in common: they want their equipment to work exactly when needed.

This is where wired earphones continue to hold an advantage. A wired connection does not depend on battery levels, Bluetooth pairing, software compatibility, or wireless signal stability. It provides a direct connection that behaves in the same way every time it is used that consistency may not sound exciting in a marketing campaign, but it remains one of the reasons many consumers who own premium wireless earbuds still keep a pair of wired earphones nearby.

The importance of reliability becomes even more apparent during long journeys, workdays, or situations where access to charging is limited. A wired earphone can sit unused for months and still function immediately when required. In an age where many gadgets demand constant maintenance, that level of dependability continues to hold real value.

The Audio Quality Debate Never Really Disappeared

Wireless audio has improved dramatically over the past decade, and modern premium earbuds deliver a listening experience that would have been difficult to imagine just a few years ago. For most users, today’s wireless products provide more than enough quality for music, podcasts, videos, and calls.

Despite that progress, wired audio continues to enjoy a strong reputation among enthusiasts. Part of that reputation comes from the belief that a physical connection provides a more direct path between the source and the listener, avoiding some of the limitations associated with wireless transmission. Whether every listener can hear a meaningful difference remains a matter of debate, but the perception has remained remarkably persistent.

The rise of lossless and high-resolution music streaming services has also helped keep the discussion alive. As platforms increasingly market premium audio experiences, some consumers are revisiting wired solutions in search of the best possible listening quality. Even if the audience remains relatively small compared to the broader market, it is large enough to ensure that wired earphones remain relevant.

Rising Prices Are Making Wired Earphones Look Attractive Again

Another factor helping wired earphones regain attention is economics. Premium wireless earbuds have become increasingly sophisticated, but they have also become increasingly expensive. Flagship models from leading brands often cost well over Rs 20,000, placing them in the same price range as some mid-range smartphones.

While features such as active noise cancellation, adaptive audio, and spatial sound undoubtedly add value, not every consumer views them as essential. Many people simply want a reliable way to listen to music, watch videos, join calls, and attend online classes. For those users, spending a fraction of the price on a pair of wired earphones can feel like a far more practical decision.

Wired earphones also avoid one of the biggest long-term challenges facing wireless products: battery degradation. While wireless earbuds inevitably lose capacity over time and eventually need replacement, a well-maintained pair of wired earphones can continue working for years. That longevity adds another layer to their value proposition at a time when consumers are becoming increasingly conscious about technology spending.

Younger Consumers Are Helping Drive the Trend

Perhaps the most surprising aspect of the wired earphone resurgence is that it is not being driven solely by people who remember life before Bluetooth audio became mainstream. Younger consumers are increasingly contributing to the trend as well, reflecting a broader pattern that has emerged across several technology categories in recent years.

Technology trends rarely move in a straight line. Products that once seemed destined for history often find new relevance when consumer tastes shift. Vinyl records have experienced a remarkable revival, compact digital cameras have become popular again among content creators, and even flip phones have managed to build niche audiences despite years of predictions about their decline.

Wired earphones appear to be benefiting from a similar shift. For some younger consumers, they represent something different in a market where wireless earbuds have become almost universal. What was once dismissed as outdated technology is now being viewed as practical, distinctive, and even fashionable. Social media has amplified that perception, helping transform wired earphones from a forgotten accessory into something that feels unexpectedly current.

The Future Remains Wireless, but Wired Earphones Are Unlikely to Disappear

None of this suggests that wireless earbuds are about to lose their position at the centre of the personal audio market. Their convenience, portability, and integration with modern smartphone ecosystems ensure they will remain the preferred choice for most consumers for years to come.

What the renewed interest in wired earphones demonstrates, however, is that technology adoption is rarely as straightforward as industry trends sometimes suggest. Newer products do not automatically make older technologies irrelevant, particularly when those older technologies continue solving real problems in a simple and affordable way.

The story of wired earphones in 2026 is therefore less about nostalgia and more about practicality. After spending years in the shadow of wireless innovation, a technology that many assumed was slowly disappearing is once again attracting attention because consumers are reassessing what they truly value in everyday gadgets. While wireless earbuds continue to dominate sales, the growing interest in wired alternatives suggests that reliability, affordability, simplicity, and longevity still matter. Sometimes the technologies that endure are not necessarily the newest or the most advanced, but the ones that continue doing their job well long after the spotlight has moved elsewhere.

Vodafone Idea is directly attacking the service launched by Airtel recently, which is Priority Postpaid. The priority postpaid is basically 5G network slicing, which promises a superior experience for the postpaid consumers. Airtel’s prepaid consumers, at this point, could be worried about a downgraded experience. While Airtel has maintained that it is not reducing the experience of the prepaid consumers in any manner, there are questions in the minds of people, especially as the service is under government lens too.

Capitalising on this situation, Vodafone Idea is trying to add new customers. The telco, known for offering REDX postpaid plans, is saying that we don’t do ‘preferential treatment’ when it comes to customers. The telco said that every customer deserves a fair and consistent network experience.

Vodafone Idea Launches Aggressive Campaign to Add Users

Vi has launched an aggressive campaign for adding new prepaid and postpaid users, and is telling people that they will get equal priority and treatment. The telco is continuously strengthening its network capabilities by rolling out 4G and 5G in new areas and towns of the country.

This has helped the telco in growing its overall subscriber base in the short-term. Vodafone Idea is basically trying to get the prepaid customers, who are confused or are feeling dejected because the postpaid users are now getting priority services, or better services.

Bharti Airtel is not charging anything extra to the customers who are getting Priority Postpaid. The telco said that its 5G network slicing services will be available to all the postpaid users across India. The prices of Airtel’s postpaid plans start at Rs 449 per month. So you are basically still paying the same amount of money, but getting preferential services from the telco. Airtel maintains that the Priority Postpaid is not degrading the service for the prepaid consumers in any manner.

The next generation of Wi-Fi technology is beginning to take shape, and Asus wants to be among the first companies ready for it. The company has unveiled the Asus ROG Rapture GT-BN98 Pro, which Asus describes as the world’s first Wi-Fi 8 gaming router. The launch comes even though the Wi-Fi 8 standard, officially known as IEEE 802.11bn, has not yet been finalised.

The announcement offers an early glimpse into where home networking could be headed over the next few years. Unlike earlier Wi-Fi upgrades that were largely marketed around higher peak speeds, Wi-Fi 8 is being positioned around better reliability, lower latency, stronger coverage, and more consistent performance in real-world environments.

Asus ROG Rapture GT-BN98 Pro: What Makes Wi-Fi 8 Different?

Wi-Fi 8 is being developed as the successor to Wi-Fi 7. While previous generations often focused on delivering faster theoretical speeds, Wi-Fi 8 is expected to concentrate on improving the quality of wireless connections in everyday usage.

According to Asus, the GT-BN98 Pro can deliver up to twice the throughput and twice the IoT coverage compared to previous-generation solutions. The company says these improvements become particularly noticeable in medium-to-long-range scenarios where Wi-Fi signals often weaken, such as upper floors, garages, gardens, or rooms located farther away from the router.

Another major focus of Wi-Fi 8 is improving communication between routers and connected devices. As homes continue to add smart TVs, cameras, speakers, sensors, and connected appliances, maintaining stable connections across dozens of devices is becoming increasingly important.

Rather than simply pushing for higher peak speeds, the next generation of Wi-Fi aims to deliver a more dependable experience across the entire home.

A Router Built for Gamers

As expected from the Republic of Gamers (ROG) brand, gaming remains a major focus of the new router. Asus has included a feature called AI Game Boost, a three-level acceleration system designed to prioritize gaming traffic from the user’s device all the way to the game server. According to the company, the feature can reduce latency by up to 34 percent, potentially delivering smoother online gameplay and faster response times.

The hardware itself is equally impressive. The GT-BN98 Pro comes equipped with dual 10GbE ports supporting link aggregation, four 2.5GbE ports, and an additional 1GbE port. Asus has also included a dedicated 10G gaming port that automatically prioritizes gaming traffic without requiring any manual setup.

For households with multi-gigabit fiber broadband connections, the router is positioned as one of the most powerful consumer networking products Asus has introduced so far.

Designed for Growing Smart Homes

While gaming is a major selling point, Asus is also targeting users with increasingly connected homes. The number of smart devices inside households continues to grow, from security cameras and smart speakers to connected appliances and home automation systems. Each new device places additional demands on the home network.

To address this, the GT-BN98 Pro includes features such as guest networks, VLAN controls, VPN support, enhanced AiProtection security tools, and real-time Wi-Fi interference monitoring. These capabilities are intended to help users manage more complex home networks while maintaining security and performance.

Asus also says Wi-Fi 8’s enhancements could help low-power IoT devices maintain more stable connections, an area that is becoming increasingly important as smart home adoption expands.

Built for the Next Generation of Home Networks

Beyond wireless performance, Asus has also focused on thermal management. The company says the router uses a thicker aluminum top plate, an upgraded nanocarbon coating, and a redesigned airflow system that improves heat dissipation by up to 35 percent compared to the earlier Asus ROG Rapture GT-AXE16000.

That may sound like a small detail, but it becomes increasingly important as routers handle higher data loads, advanced security functions, and AI-powered optimization features. Better cooling can help maintain consistent performance during extended periods of heavy usage.

Although Asus has not yet disclosed pricing or complete wireless specifications, the launch demonstrates how networking vendors are already preparing for the Wi-Fi 8 era even before the standard officially arrives.

The Future of Home Connectivity

For most consumers, Wi-Fi 7 routers will remain more than sufficient for the foreseeable future. Wi-Fi 8 devices, smartphones, laptops, and other client hardware are still some distance away from becoming mainstream, meaning widespread adoption will take time.

Yet the Asus ROG Rapture GT-BN98 Pro is not really about what consumers need today. Instead, it offers an early look at where home networking is headed. Future Wi-Fi networks are likely to focus not only on faster speeds but also on better reliability, wider coverage, lower latency, and stronger support for a growing number of connected devices.

That shift reflects how internet usage is changing. Homes today are filled with smartphones, smart TVs, gaming consoles, security cameras, smart speakers, and a growing number of connected appliances. As broadband speeds continue to rise and households add more connected devices, maintaining a stable connection throughout the home is becoming just as important as achieving faster download speeds.

Whether Wi-Fi 8 arrives in consumer devices next year or takes a little longer, Asus’ latest announcement makes one thing clear: networking companies are already preparing for the next phase of wireless connectivity, and the race to define that future has already begun.

If you have been planning to buy a new smartphone in India, this may be one of the most difficult times to make that decision. Smartphone prices have been steadily moving upward across several segments, newer launches are arriving with higher price tags, and even devices that were once considered affordable are becoming more expensive. At the same time, the market is preparing for another cycle of launches, discounts, exchange offers, and festive promotions. This leaves many consumers asking a simple question: should they buy now or wait? The answer is not as straightforward as it may seem because while waiting could unlock better deals, broader industry trends suggest that smartphone prices may continue rising over the long term.

Smartphone Prices Are Quietly Moving Up

Over the past few years, India’s smartphone market has undergone a significant transformation. Research firms such as IDC and Counterpoint Research have repeatedly highlighted the rise in average selling prices as consumers increasingly gravitate toward premium devices. Even when overall shipment growth has slowed, the value of the market has continued to increase because consumers are spending more on each smartphone purchase.

Several factors are driving this shift component costs have risen, especially for memory and storage manufacturers are also investing heavily in artificial intelligence features, more powerful processors, advanced camera systems, larger batteries, faster charging technologies, and longer software support cycles. All of these improvements add value for consumers, but they also contribute to higher pricing.

Interestingly, many brands are not always increasing the price of an existing model. Instead, they are launching devices with larger storage configurations and more premium features, which naturally pushes the average purchase price higher. As a result, consumers often end up spending more than they would have a few years ago even if they are buying within the same product category.

The Affordable Segment Is Feeling the Pressure

One of the biggest changes is taking place in the budget smartphone market. For years, India was known as one of the most competitive smartphone markets in the world, with manufacturers aggressively targeting consumers in the entry-level segment. Today, however, maintaining those low prices has become increasingly difficult.

Industry reports have shown that shipments in lower-priced smartphone categories have declined as manufacturers struggle with rising costs. Some brands have reduced their focus on the entry-level market altogether and are directing more resources toward mid-range and premium products where profit margins are stronger.

This trend has led to what analysts often describe as “premiumisation” of the smartphone market. Consumers who might have previously purchased a phone below Rs 10,000 are increasingly finding themselves looking at devices in the Rs 12,000 to Rs 18,000 range because that is where manufacturers are placing more emphasis.

For buyers, this means the definition of an “affordable smartphone” is gradually changing.

Premium Smartphones Continue to Attract Buyers

While budget-conscious consumers are facing higher prices, premium smartphones continue to perform remarkably well. Devices from Apple, Samsung, OnePlus, vivo, OPPO, and other leading brands have continued to attract strong demand despite economic uncertainties and rising costs. Consumers are increasingly willing to spend more on smartphones because these devices have become central to work, entertainment, communication, payments, photography, and even content creation.

A premium smartphone purchased today may remain useful for four to five years thanks to longer software support and more powerful hardware. Many consumers therefore view a higher upfront cost as a long-term investment rather than an expense.

This trend is encouraging manufacturers to prioritize profitability and premium experiences over simply chasing shipment volumes. As more brands adopt this strategy, upward pressure on pricing is likely to remain.

Why Waiting Could Make Sense

For many consumers, there are still good reasons to delay a purchase. The second half of the year typically brings a fresh wave of smartphone launches whenever a new generation of devices arrives, older models often receive price reductions, cashback offers, exchange bonuses, and bank discounts.

This is especially true during major shopping events and festive sales when retailers compete aggressively for consumer attention. A smartphone that sells for Rs 50,000 today may become significantly cheaper a few months later through a combination of direct discounts and promotional offers.
Waiting can also provide consumers with more choices. New launches may introduce better features at similar prices or force competing brands to adjust their pricing strategies.

For buyers whose existing smartphone is functioning properly, patience could result in better value for money.

Why Waiting Is Not Always the Right Strategy

At the same time, waiting does not guarantee savings. The smartphone industry continues to face cost pressures related to components, manufacturing, logistics, and technology development. Industry executives and analysts have warned that pricing pressure could remain a reality throughout much of 2026.

This means future smartphones may launch at even higher prices than current models in some situations, consumers who delay their purchase may discover that newer models cost significantly more while discounts on older devices remain relatively limited.

There is also the practical aspect of everyday use if your current smartphone suffers from poor battery life, storage limitations, performance issues, software problems, or connectivity challenges, postponing an upgrade may create more inconvenience than savings. The value of a reliable smartphone often extends beyond its price tag.

How Buyers Can Navigate Rising Smartphone Prices

The smartest approach may be neither rushing to buy nor endlessly waiting for the perfect deal. Consumers should first evaluate whether their current smartphone still meets their needs if the device is working well, waiting for upcoming sales and launches could be worthwhile better exchange values, cashback offers, and promotional discounts may provide meaningful savings.

However, buyers should avoid assuming that smartphone prices will return to the levels seen several years ago the market has changed. Manufacturers are focusing more heavily on premium products, consumers are demanding more advanced features, and production costs remain elevated.

For those planning to upgrade, the goal should not necessarily be finding the cheapest possible smartphone. Instead, it should be finding the best value based on features, software support, performance, and long-term usability.

India’s smartphone market is becoming more sophisticated, but it is also becoming more expensive. For many buyers, the challenge is no longer deciding which phone to buy. It is deciding when to buy it.

Reliance Jio, India’s largest telecom operator, is IPO (Initial Public Offering) bound, and will soon be listed in the stock exchanges. The company’s IPO is spearheaded by Mukesh Ambani, chairman and managing director (CMD) of Reliance Industries Limited. Mukesh Ambani, in the recent annual report for Reliance Industries said that Jio is guided by the principle of sustainable value creation.

“We will continue to evaluate strategic pathways that can broaden stakeholder participation and support Jio’s longterm growth, always guided by the principle of sustainable value creation,” said Ambani.

Jio IPO Needs to Protect Retail Investors

One of the reasons why the IPO’s structure has been reportedly (internally) changed is due to the uncertainity in the global capital markets. The existing investors wanted the IPO to be an offer for sale (OFS), but now, Mukesh Ambani believes that is not the right way to go ahead. The IPO needs to protect the retail investor. If the IPO is structured as an OFS, that would push the prices to be at the maximum point for each share (meaning a high valuation), which would ensure healthy returns for the stakeholders, but that could potentially expose the retail investors to a possibility where their shares list on red in the stock exchanges.

This is something Ambani wants should not happen with the retail investors. At this point, Jio is one of the most valuable companies in India and is a major contributor to the economy. The company’s IPO is reportedly going to fetch $4 billlion in fresh capital, would allow Jio to reduce debt, and aggressively expand the network and tech ecosystem.

“From connecting India to empowering India, Jio is now poised to help lead India into the digital future,” Ambani said. Jio has more than 500 million mobile customers in India, and would now look to monetise them deeply to boost revenues.

Global telecom merger and acquisition (M&A) activity remained under pressure in the first quarter of 2026, with deal value declining 18% year-on-year as operators continued to prioritize asset sales, portfolio optimization, and infrastructure-focused investments over large-scale acquisitions.

According to Bain & Company’s latest analysis of global telecom M&A trends, total deal value fell from $16 billion in the first quarter of 2025 to $13 billion in the first quarter of 2026 while activity showed a modest improvement compared to the previous quarter, the broader market remained subdued as economic and regulatory challenges weighed on dealmaking.

Also Read: Global Telecom-OTT Collaboration Key to Tackling Scams, Says GSMA: Report

The report suggests that telecom operators across the world are becoming increasingly cautious when it comes to pursuing large acquisitions instead, many companies are focusing on improving balance sheets, simplifying operations, and unlocking value from existing assets.

Macroeconomic Challenges Continue to Weigh on Deals

The telecom sector is facing several external pressures that are making major transactions harder to justify high interest rates remain one of the biggest hurdles with borrowing costs staying elevated in many markets, financing large acquisitions has become more expensive at the same time, uncertainty surrounding global trade policies, tariffs, and broader economic growth continues to affect investor confidence.

Regulatory scrutiny is also playing a role Telecom remains one of the most heavily regulated industries, and large transactions often require extensive approvals from competition authorities and government agencies this can add both time and complexity to potential deals.

As a result, many operators appear to be taking a more conservative approach, choosing to strengthen their existing businesses rather than pursue aggressive expansion through acquisitions.

Asset Sales Take Centre Stage

One of the most notable findings from Bain’s report is the growing importance of divestments Asset sales accounted for 53% of total telecom M&A value during the first quarter of 2026, making them the largest contributor to deal activity during the period.

This trend reflects a broader shift across the telecom industry rather than buying new businesses, operators are increasingly selling non-core assets and streamlining portfolios such transactions allow companies to raise capital, reduce debt, and focus resources on areas that offer stronger long-term growth potential.

Also Read: Reliance Jio IPO Could See Stake Sales by Meta, Google and Global Funds: Report

Many telecom operators have spent the past few years evaluating which assets are essential to their future strategy businesses that no longer align with core objectives are increasingly being sold or spun off, creating a steady flow of divestment-related activity even as traditional M&A remains weak.

Infrastructure Deals Continue to Dominate

The report also highlights the continued importance of scale and infrastructure transactions according to Bain, scale and infrastructure deals have accounted for more than 70% of total telecom M&A value over the past five years this indicates that investors and operators continue to see long-term value in assets such as towers, fibre networks, data centres, and other critical communications infrastructure.

Demand for digital connectivity continues to grow globally, driven by cloud services, artificial intelligence applications, enterprise digital transformation, and increasing data consumption as a result, infrastructure assets remain attractive investment targets even during periods of broader market uncertainty.

The continued dominance of infrastructure-focused deals suggests that while overall telecom M&A activity may be slowing, strategic investment in foundational network assets remains a priority.

Scope Deals Gain Momentum

Another notable trend identified in the report is the rise of scope deals scope transactions accounted for 23% of total telecom deal value in the first quarter of 2026, up significantly from 11% a year earlier these deals typically involve operators expanding into adjacent markets, services, or capabilities rather than pursuing traditional scale-driven acquisitions.

The increase suggests that telecom companies are looking for targeted opportunities that can strengthen existing businesses without requiring the financial commitment associated with large mergers.

Where Telecom Investment Is Heading Next

Bain expects telecom M&A activity to remain relatively stagnant in the near term persistent macroeconomic uncertainty, elevated financing costs, regulatory challenges, and ongoing trade risks are likely to continue affecting dealmaking decisions. However, the underlying need for network investment and digital infrastructure development remains strong.

For now, the message from the telecom industry appears clear rather than pursuing headline-grabbing acquisitions, many operators are focusing on portfolio optimization, infrastructure investment, and selective strategic transactions in a challenging market environment, preserving flexibility and strengthening core operations may prove more valuable than chasing the next big deal.
