Samsung’s tradition of showing handsets before the official announcement continues. At a Corby event, two upcoming phones were snapped that will supposedly be marketed under the “Diva” brand, targeting the fairer sex.

Starting with S5150 Olivia, the phone has a clamshell form factor with a small external display gracing the front beneath the mirror-like body. Other things confirmed in the Olivia are a 2.2-inch QVGA display and 3MP camera but going with the current feature trend, it won’t be surprising to find features like microSD card slot, Bluetooth or music player.

S7070 on the other hand, looks as a reincarnation of Star with touched up design and a new diamond center button. Specs-wise it includes 5MP camera, 3-inch WQVGA resistive touchscreen, Bluetooth, microSD card slot and FM Radio.

Both the phones are expected to hit retail shelves in Q1 2010.

We’ve seen iPhone being adopted as an instrumental tool in various fields and it’s good to see its potential been tapped by the Indian doctors. Narayana Nethralaya Postgraduate Institute of Ophthalmology in Bangalore are pilot testing an iPhone software that will push retinal images of patients living in rural areas to doctors’ iPhone devices.

The images received can be analysed by doctors after which, send their recommendation back to the recipient via their iPhones.

Anand Vinekar, retinal surgeon and project coordinator says the hospital will mostly use the tech to save infants from a potentially blinding disease known as Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) and other ailments.

This project is part of hospital’s rural reach program where such technology can be a boon to save a premature baby’s eyes. Trained hospital staff are placed in remote areas where they take eye images with a special wide-angle retinal digital cam and uploaded it to a server, which e-mails it to a doctor for further diagnosis.

Sony’s PS3 console is about to get a new browser, if the report from PSInsider is to be believed. A source close to Sony hit them up claiming the Japanese multinational is in talks with Mozilla to port Firefox to the console. However, it’s not clear if both the companies have signed the dotted line or not.

This if true, will be a boon to PS3 users as no matter how well PS3 renders games, its integrated browser is a disappointment.

Well, well, what do we have here? Another Motorola Android phone, of course. Dubbed as Motus the phone’s image was leaked on a Russian forum, which is said to be from the Cliq family with the new external design. Specs are unconfirmed as of now but Androidandme claims some meaty specs like quad-band GSM, 3G, 528MHz CPU, 512/256MB ROM/RAM, 3.1-inch HVGA touchscreen display, 5MP camera with LED flash, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, Android 1.5 OS with Motoblur and unique reverse flip keyboard and rear directional touchpad.

Expectedly, Google gave the first glimpse of its Chrome OS at the Google HQ yesterday. Sundar Pichai gave a quick demo of the OS and it does look promising. The OS, which is nothing but a browser boots in 7 seconds and enables to do most of the things like checking e-mail, chat, edit office files, social networking and more within the browser via dedicated apps. Google Chrome OS will be available to consumers by end of next year but if you want to try out the OS now, they’ve open-sourced the project as Chromium OS. With the price tag it carries, SanDisk is definitely not targeting the average consumer wanting to store content. In fact, these exorbitantly priced cards come with crazy speed, which SanDisk claims is apt for DSLR users. This 32GB SDHC card gives a read/write speed of up to 30MB/s, thus allowing the DSLR users to click pictures in rapid succession.

The card complies with the Class 10 specifications of the SD association and allows to store up to 2500 RAW images or up to 160 minutes of video shot at full HD resolution.

Sony Ericsson’s Kurara has sprung up again revealing more details of the promising device. Kurara is claimed to give Samsung’s Omnia HD run for its money with the integration of ARM’s Cortex-A8 processor, 256MB RAM and PowerVR graphics. It also supports 720p and claimed to be the fastest S60 around.

Sony has another reason to touts its PS3 as the console that does everything. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Cyber Crimes Center also known as C3 uses the cheap $300 PS3s to crack passwords of computers of alleged child pornographers.

A warrant allows the government officials to seize the suspect’s computer but due to Fourth Amendment they can’t force suspects to reveal their passwords. In such a case, cracking password is the only option.

There are up to 282 trillion combinations in a six-digit password and breaking the correct combination is only possible when a machine can process heaps of data quickly. Networked PS3s used by C3 processes 4 million passwords per second, making it a cost effective solution compared to the $8,000 Tableau/Dell server combination that was used previously.

C3 plans to buy more original PS3s because of its flexibility to run Linux.
