The website of Tata Consultancy Services, India’s largest software vendor, has been hacked. The hacker has posted a “For Sale” message on the site for a brief time, which is written in both French and English. Ironically, the company produces security systems software. This hack will definitely lead to total embarrassment for the software firm who thrives on creating software and security systems day in and day out.

The hack is believed to be a DNS hijack, which is similar to the breach that Twitter succumbed to last year.

Virgin Mobile to launch GSM services in South India this week

The already heated telecom war has yet another player announcing entry into the GSM market. CNBC-TV18 learns that Virgin Mobile is expected to launch GSM services in South India this week, using Tata Teleservices Ltd’s (TTSL’s) network (Tata DOCOMO, to be precise).

Virgin Mobile, which currently operates in the CDMA network, also plans to launch its services in Orissa, Maharashtra and North India by March 2010. Top officials from the company said, “GSM network is significant for growth and we will be launching it first in South India.”

It will be interesting to see if Virgin offers “Get Paid For Incoming” in GSM too.

HOW TO Update Nokia 5800 Firmware to V40.0.005

Now that finally nokia has released a new update which brings much needed features such as Kinetic Scrolling etc.

If it is then go to step 2 directly. Else, you need to change the product code of your phone. Don’t worry its very simple and the guide can be found here. Change the product code to something close to yours.

For example, the product code of my mobile was 0575590 which wasn’t listed there and hence i changed the product code to 0559673 since the phone belongs to India.

Step 2: Download the Nokia Software Updater. For some “God alone knows” reason, i wasn’t able to update the firmware using the Ovi suite.

Windows XP, Vista users download: Nokia Software Updater Setup EN

Windows 7 users download this: Nokia Software Updater Setup 2.4.3 BETA EN

Step 3: Rest of the process is very simple. After installing Nokia Software Updater, just launch it and connect the the Mobile using USB and the updater will identify your device and updates the firmware to v40.0.005

if it is not showing the latest update as v40.0.005, then that means you didnot change the product code to one list above.

Once the update starts, you will see the following screens.
As you can see in the above Screenshot, the update is 127.3MB.

4. Your 5800 XpressMusic will restart a couple of times and then..Voila! Your phone is updated and you can enjoy the Kinetic Scrolling and the improved touch sensitivity!

1. Download JAF 1.98.62.exe

2. Download JAF PKEY Emulator v5.0

3. Install JAF 1.98.62

4. Extract JAF PKEY Emulator v5.0 to desktop

5. Connect ur Nokia 5800 and select PC Suite mode on your Nokia 5800.

6. Now run JAF PKEY v5.0 and click on the GO button. It will come up with error: box driver not installed –> so click ok and now JAF v1.98 will run.

If you are using Windows 7, right click on the file, and in the Compatibility tab, select Run in Compatibility Mode and “Windows XP SP3″

7. Now in JAF, Select BB5 tab –> tick Product Manager –> then click the ‘Service’ button –> click the Read Values button.

8. Now u can enter the product code of your choice and press the Write Values button and its done!

To confirm, click on the Read value again. And now you should the new product code.

Nokia has finally released a new firmware V40 which has kinetic scrolling  for 5800 XpressMusic.

NEW DELHI: Direct-to-Home (DTH) service provider Tata Sky has moved the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) against Airtel Digital
Television, protesting the rival company’s claims of a superior picture quality in its television commercial.

In a letter to ASCI secretary-general Alan Collaco, Tata Sky charged that the ad aims to portray that Airtel Digital TV, with its use of MPEG 4 DVB-S2 technology, has picture clarity better than other service providers. The commercial, launched last August, “falsely suggests that other platforms have inferior picture quality”, it added.

ASCI is a self-regulatory voluntary organisation of the advertising industry that deals with consumer and industry complaints against commercials.

“MPEG-4 and DVB S2 are compression standards and have no impact on video picture quality. We want to correct the myth in the minds of the consumers that MPEG-4 DVB S2 provides better picture quality than other technologies used to provide digital signals,” said Tata Sky chief marketing officer Vikram Mehra.

The country’s six DTH service providers use different compression technologies ranging from MPEG2 to MPEG4 to provide digital television signals to consumers through satellite. Though compression technologies determine a service provider’s number of channels to consumers, they have no impact on video quality.

Airtel Digital Television launched two commercials titled “Dil Titli” featuring Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor— one is still running — which highlighted the clarity card. According to Tata Sky, ASCI has agreed to review the ad, which “seeks to disparage other digital platforms”.

But Airtel Digital Television spokesperson said ASCI has not upheld the complaint and his company is not targeting a particular operator. “We have sent our reply to ACI. Our claim is that our technology is superior to ordinary technology, which includes analogue cable.”

The campaign claims that there are several features that together make the experience of Airtel Digital Television subscribers better than others, he added.
