Introduction:
Have you ever wondered how big could phone screens get?Judging by recent trends, manufacturers seem to be constantly raising the norm as they continue to produce bigger and bigger handsets. We’ve already seen many such offerings, sporting 4+” screens, like the Samsung Galaxy S II and the Motorola DROID X2, but one product easily overshadows them all, in terms of size.
Of course, we’re talking about the Samsung Galaxy Note. This beast of a phone actually carries a 5.3” display – the biggest you can find on a device, marketed as a “phone”. We can already see the debate over whether the Galaxy Note should be considered a giant phone or a mini-tablet, however, we’d prefer to stay away from this, and rather focus on the unique capabilities of the handset, in order to see if it has a chance in this cruel world. After all, not many smartphones today come with a special stylus of their own, designed to ease the process of note-taking. Unfortunately though, none of the U.S. carriers has announced plans to carry the Galaxy Note yet.
Anyway, let’s see if Samsung’s Galaxy Note has the potential to become the next big thing in wireless!

Design:
So, um… what should we say? The Samsung Galaxy Note is one monster of a phone! It is gigantic, and it doesn’t feel like anything you’ve used before. And if you’re the type of person who’d say that the Galaxy S II is just too big, then wait until you see this guy. Don’t think you’ll be able to use it just like you use your typical smartphone – you can’t fit the Galaxy Note comfortably in your pocket. Well, you can carry it in your pocket, but don’t try to sit while it’s in there. It’s by no means heavy, but it is too cumbersome to handle normally. This “phone” is designed for the biggest of hands, but we don’t believe that it will fit well even in such hands.

The Samsung Galaxy Note is made of plastics, but it doesn’t feel cheap at all. The device is solid, and even the capacitive stylus stays very firmly in its spot, and requires a bit of force to be removed. No wiggle whatsoever.
Now, let’s turn our attention to the gargantuan 5.3” display of the Galaxy Note. It is, of course, of the capacitive type and utilizes the Super AMOLED technology, which translates into rich colors, deep contrast levels wide viewing angles and… a bluish tint on top, mostly visible when displaying white. Having so much real estate however, means that screen resolution should also be abundant, in order to keep a respectful pixel density. This is one area where the Galaxy Note performs admirably, having an 800×1280 pixel res, which translates into 285 ppi. We’re happy to say that everything on the screen is very clear and easily readable.

All the keys around the device are comfortable to press, while the special capacitive stylus is positioned at the bottom of the device. As we said, it requires a bit of force to have it removed, but that’s fine, as it wouldn’t have been better if it was wiggling. The stylus itself is long enough, and more importantly – isn’t too thin, so overall we are happy with its design.

Samsung Galaxy Y review

Samsung wants to cater for a range of users, not just those wanting the biggest, fastest and most media hungry phones and the Samsung Galaxy Y looks to bring functionality to the low-end range.

The 'Y' stands for 'Young', which clearly signals the market this phone is targeted at. The Galaxy Y sells itself as a budget Android device which allows you to keep updated on the go, from poking your friends to tweeting what you had for lunch.

The Samsung Galaxy Y replaces the Galaxy Mini at the bottom of the Galaxy range and this puts it head to head with the Orange San Francisco 2, HTC Wildfire S and Alcatel One Touch 990.

The Galaxy Y is low on specs, but this means it is also low in price – available for free on contracts starting from just £9.99 per month, or £90 on PAYG, making it very competitive. A SIM-free option will set you back around £115.

The Galaxy Y is a dinky device measuring 104 x 58 x 11.5mm and housing a 3-inch QVGA (240x320) TFT touchscreen.

You'll notice that the screen is certainly petit, but Android 2.3.5 (Gingerbread) still works well – albeit looking rather grainy due to the low-res TFT display.

Pick the Galaxy Y up and it sits nicely in the hand; the rounded textured back provides a comfortable and firm grip while weighing in at 97.5g grams giving a solid feel without seeming heavy.

The build quality of the Galaxy Y is sturdy with no flex in the handset when pressure is applied. The back cover is plastic but it fits snugly on the phone and when removed feels thick enough not to be a worry.

Flip that handset over and you're greeted with a 2MP camera and speaker, which has a raised grill – bit of an odd feature but is likely there to provide a bit of distance between the lens and a surface when placed on a side.

There is just one button on the right hand side which is the power/lock key. Thanks to the Galaxy Y's small size, it is easy to reach when using one handed.

Move to the top and there is a 3.5mm headphone jack and a covered microUSB port. Providing you have not bitten your nails off, the cover is easy to remove.

On the left of the handset there is a volume rocker switch and hole where a lanyard can be fitted - if you're in to that sort of thing.

The is not much happening on the base of the Galaxy Y, just a microphone pin-hole and a dent in the chassis to allow you to take the back cover off – which we did with ease.

Back to the front and it's the classic Samsung three button combo below the screen, with touch Back and Menu buttons flanking a physical Home button. The Home button has a premium textured look and feel which seemed out of place on the budget Galaxy Y. It made us shudder if we caught it with our nail, as it felt like scraping your hand down a blackboard. We also found the touch buttons quite unresponsive, requiring firm taps to register.

Under the hood there is an 830MHz processor powered by a 1200mAh battery. The Galaxy Y is not going to be winning any speed races and it shows when using the phone with it slow to start up and load apps, but we expect this from cheap handsets.

Samsung has stuck a miserly 160MB of internal memory inside which can thankfully be upgraded to 32GB with a microSD card. Granted it's a budget handset, but even the San Francisco 2 and Wildfire S offer 512MB.

Most speed tests on the Internet let you connect to one of their servers to perform the test. That’s sometimes not beneficial especially if the servers are not located in your country.
Tracert and ping are available on the local system but they do not reveal the speed of the connection.
SpeedTest is a free client and server software for Windows that can be used to test the connection speed of a local network or the Internet.
Users can install the client version to test the connection speed to IPs or Internet domains, or the Server version to allow clients to connect to that server to test the connection speed.

To test the speed users enter either an IP address or domain name in the Server form in the application interface. A click on connect or the enter key will connect to the location and record information about the connection. This includes the time, duration, bytes received and speed in KB/s.
The speed tester creates a visual representation of the connection speeds in a chart automatically.

The name of this app is Terminal. Now we are going to show you step by step instructions using which you can create audio files using the Text to Speech feature of Mac OS X. Now follow the steps carefully.

INSTRUCTIONS

STEP 1. From the Applications:Utilities folder, you have to launch the Terminal app.

STEP 2. At the command prompt you have to type cd ~/Desktop and then simply press Enter.

STEP 3. Now simply type “read this” then press Enter so that your Mac read a string aloud. Also you can replace the text in quotes as you wish.

STEP 4. Now type v Alex “read this” and then press Enter so that your Mac can read in a different voice. You can replace Alex with any of these Mac voices i.e Vicki, Alex, Kathy, Victoria, Fred, Bruce.

STEP 5. Now type v Alex -f “textfile.rtf” and then press Enter so that your Mac can read from a text file. You can replace textfile.rtf with the filename of a plain text file that you have placed on your desktop.

STEP 6. Now type v Alex -o “audiofile.aiff” “read this” and then press Enter, it allows your Mac to read straight into an audio file type. You can replace “audiofile.aiff” with the audio filename you would like created.

How to setup Facebook Chat within iChat in MacOsX

After you have your account, please sign in to www.co.cc with your account.
Click the Getting A New Domain tab (with assumption that you haven’t had your domain name).
Type the domain name you want, click the Check availability button to check the availability of yourdomain name, repeat if unavailable.
If the domain name is available, click Continue to registration button as the screenshot below
Congratulations, you now have your own domain name of Co.CC. To be noted, you haven’t managed the setting to your new domain.

In order to do setting to your new domain of Co.CC you can follow these steps below:

As usual, you sign in first with your account, then click Domain Settings as you see at the screenshot below
Click Set up at your new domain name as seen at the screenshot below, then it will appear the wordsPlease domain setup now as the notification that your new domain name of Co.CC has not been set up.
Click the words Please domain setup now to set up your new domain name of Co.CC. On this page, you will choose one of the three domain setup as Manage DNS, Zone Record, and URL Forwarding. For those who want to change the blogspot domain name with Co.CC, you should choose the ZoneRecord by click it or its radio button.
After you choose Zone Record, there will appear the setting option as the screenshot below At the dialogue box, fill the Host with your domain name of Co.CC, e.g. www.loanconsulting.Co.CC(the Host name of my Co.CC domain). Then at TTL let it as 1D, for Type, choose CNAME, and Valuefill with ghs.google.com. After all fields are filled out, click the Set up button. You can see the exampleof my setting as the screenshot below
Now you finish setting your new Co.CC domain, but usually you have to wait for about 48 hours until your new domain is active.

Well, now it’s time to change the blogspot domain with Co.CC domain. Please follow the steps below:

Log in to blogger with your account.
Click Settings at the dashboard
At the Settings page, click Publishing
When you are at the Publishing page, click Custom Domain
At the page of Publishing on custom domain, you are not asked to buy the domain (except you want it), but we will use the blogspot domain that we have made, then click Switch to advanced settings to change your blogspot domain with Co.CC domain.
At the page of Advanced Settings fill with your Co.CC domain at the field of Your Domain e.g.www.loanconsulting.Co.CC (it’s my Co.CC domain). The for Use a missing files host? Leave it asNo and at the field of Word Verification fill with the words that appear with blur (colored and unclear). After all fields are filled out, click Save Settings.
Be sure that Save Setting at Point 6 is successful with the sign as the words Settings Were Saved Successfully at upper right of the page
You have finished changing your blogspot domain with Co.CC domain.

Note: usually you have to wait for about 48 hours until your new domain is active as Co.CC regulation.

HTML5 Based Application to share, buy and discover new music everyday

Ever since MySpace cut its staff the other week, we’ve been wondering what social network/music discovery service could possibly replace it should it totally collapse. Well, UK-based startup MFLOW probably won’t be that service, but it certainly is fun.

MFLOW, by its own description, is “Twitter meets iTunes,” in that it allows users to both share and buy music. In essence, it’s a music discovery service/social network.

Basically, you create an account on MFLOW (for free) and connect it to your Twitter, Facebook and Buzz accounts (or any combination of the three). You can then search for music within the service’s 5 million song database (which is also ad-free), and then “Flow” a track. Flowing a track basically means sharing it on the aforementioned social networks.

When it comes to music, I was able to find a lot of my favorite bands thanks to UK partnerships with Sony Music, EMI and Universal, along with most of the independent labels and big aggregators. According to CEO Oleg Fomenko, MFLOW is currently working on deals that will hike 5 million tracks up to 7 million.

The first 10 tracks you Flow can also be downloaded for free and can be listened to by other users — sans payment. The only catch is that you can’t listen to a Flow over and over again, preventing people from liberally reaping the benefits of the services without paying anything.

Speaking of payment, you can also buy tracks using partner bank HSBC, and if another user buys a track that you Flow, you get credit for future purchases (20% of the cost of the song your friend bought).

Perhaps the most useful aspect of the service is discovery — the site features a “People Wall” that you can use to explore other people’s Flows (which you can listen to in full). You can also follow people on the service to get their latest picks. The only annoying thing is that the service doesn’t pull friends from Facebook, Twitter and Buzz, which makes it hard to find people.

Currently, the service has no mobile apps, but it is accessible on any device that supports HTML5, which is pretty awesome, because it will work on the iPad. Also, much like Spotify, MFLOW isn’t fully available in the U.S. yet — you can still listen to Flows and download your 10 free tracks, but you can’t buy music. MFLOW, however, has plans to become fully available in the U.S. toward the end of 2011.

MFLOW launched in the UK back in December and currently has 80,000 users who have — to date — sent more than 700,000 “flows” and purchased more than a quarter of a million tracks.

Turn-Off Laptop or Desktop Monitor Instantly

Most laptops don’t have a hotkey or button to turn-off their monitors. The only thing you can do is either decrease the brightness of the screen or close the monitor itself. The former still consumes precious laptop battery, while the latter is not practical because it traps heat and the sounds coming out of the speakers.

You can also tweak the PC’s Power Options in the Control Panel but the turning-off of the monitor will not take effect immediately — you still have to wait one minute (at the least) and that your machine should be inactive.

The WinFlog software can instantly turn-off your laptop or desktop monitor. The main program that runs this tool is incredibly undersized at only 20kb, yet it functions as expected. Also, it does not need to be installed.

WinFlog is a compilation of small but very useful applications. Aside from turning off laptop and desktop monitors, with proper registry setting, you can also use this software to turn-off and on Vista’s Aero, eject a CD, and switch windows in 3D.

Select whether you want to open or save the zip file, and then click OK.

Wait for the download to finish.

If you’ve opted to open the zip file, an archiver program will immediately open the file for you after the download is complete.

Extract or de-compress the zip file to your preferred computer directory.

After extracting, open the WinFlog executable file (as shown below).

Click the Yes button to proceed to the next page.

This is the program’s primary interface. You can select your ideal language by clicking one of the language buttons.

To use WinFlog’s tools, just press the buttons with the green check mark. As an example, we will click here the Monitor OFF check button.

This function, however, only works with Window XP. I will show you latter on how to turn off your monitor if you’re using Vista as your operating system.

After pressing a button, the command is now set (for this instance, the turning-off command is now enabled).

To turn-off a monitor, just right-click the My Computer icon and

press Monitor OFF. This will instantly turn-off your laptop or desktop monitor. Aside from the My Computer icon, you can also apply the Monitor OFF command to your Desktop and Windows Explorer.

In Windows Vista, to turn-off a monitor, go to the location of the unzipped file and then double-click WinFlogTurnOff.exe (as shown below).

You can create a desktop, taskbar, and / or system tray shortcuts of this tool so that the turning-off of the monitor is just a click away.

Print Photos in a Picture Package layout

Place multiple photos into a picture package

To use the optional Picture Package plug-in described below, first download it for Windows or Mac OS. You can also create picture packages and custom packages in Photoshop Lightroom, if you have it. See Choose a print template in Lightroom Community Help.

With the optional Picture Package plug-in, you can place multiple copies of an image on a single page, much as portrait studios do with school photos. You can also place different images on the same page. You can choose from a variety of size and placement options to customize your package layout.

A picture package layout

Do one of the following:
- (Photoshop) Choose File > Automate > Picture Package. If you have multiple images open, Picture Package uses the frontmost image.
- (Bridge) Choose Tools > Photoshop > Picture Package. The Picture Package command uses the first image listed in Bridge unless you select a specific image before giving the Picture Package command.
If you’re using only the frontmost image or a selected image from Bridge, skip to step 3.
Add one or more images to the layout by doing one of the following:
- In the Source Images area of the Picture Package dialog box, choose either File or Folder from the Use menu and click Browse (Windows) or Choose (Mac OS). If you choose Folder, you can select Include All Subfolders to include images inside any subfolders.
- Click a placeholder in the preview layout and browse to select an image.
  Click a placeholder in the Picture Package preview layout, then browse to select an image.
- Drag an image from the desktop or a folder into a placeholder.
  Add an image to a picture package by dragging the image from the desktop into a placeholder.
You can change any image in the layout by clicking a placeholder and browsing to select an image.
In the Document area of the Picture Package dialog box, select page size, layout, resolution, and color mode. A thumbnail of the chosen layout appears on the right side of the dialog box.
Select Flatten All Layers to create a picture package with all images and label text on a single layer. Deselect Flatten All Layers to create a picture package with separate image layers and text layers (for labels). If you place each image and label on a separate layer, you can update your picture package after it’s been saved. However, the layers increase the file size of your picture package.
In the Label area, choose the source for label text from the Content menu or choose None. If you choose Custom Text, enter the text for the label in the Custom Text field.
Specify font, font size, color, opacity, position, and rotation for the labels.
Click OK.

Customize a picture package layout

You can modify existing layouts or create new layouts using the Picture Package Edit Layout feature. Custom layouts are saved as text files and stored in the Layouts folder inside the Presets folder. You can then reuse your saved layouts. The Picture Package Edit Layout feature uses a graphic interface that eliminates the need to write text files to create or modify layouts.

Do one of the following:
- (Photoshop) Choose File > Automate > Picture Package.
- (Bridge) Choose Tools > Photoshop > Picture Package.
In the Picture Package dialog box, choose a layout from the Layout menu if you’re creating a layout or customizing an existing one.
Click the Edit Layout button.
In the Picture Package Edit Layout dialog box, enter a name for the custom layout in the Name text box.
(Optional) In the Layout area of the Picture Package Edit Layout dialog box, choose a size from the Page Size menu or enter values in the Width and Height text boxes. You can use the Units menu to specify inches, centimeters, pixels, or millimeters.
Dragging a placeholder to a new location in the Picture Package layout
In the Grid area of the Picture Package Edit Layout dialog box, select the Snap To option to display a grid to help you position the elements in the custom layout. Enter a value in the Size text box to change the appearance of the grid.
To add or delete a placeholder, do one of the following:
- Click Add Zone to add a placeholder to the layout.
- Select a placeholder and click Delete Zone to delete it from the layout.
To modify a placeholder, select a placeholder and do any of the following:
- Enter values in the Width and Height text boxes to resize a placeholder.
- Click and drag a handle to resize a placeholder. If you resize a rectangle placeholder with an image in it, Picture Package will snap the image within the vertical or horizontal placeholder, depending on the way the zone is being resized.
- Enter values in the X and Y text boxes to move a placeholder.
- Click and drag a placeholder to the location you want in the layout.
Click Save.

If you like gaming and 3-D, Nvidia is currently offering the cheapest way into the 3-D world with its 3-D Vision GeForce graphics card enhancement package ($200 and up), which with a fast enough monitor (such as the 120 hertz, 22-inch Samsung SyncMaster 2233RZ at $300) would still bring your budget 3-D setup in at well under four figures. With recent model GeForce cards (details on Nvidia's Website), a 3-D Vision's Infrared emitter modules plugs into a USB por tand chirps its "left-eye, right-eye" syncing signal to Nvidia's active 3-D glasses while its pipes 3-D signals to the monitor. And unlike Sony's PlayStation 3, which boasts only a handful of full HD 3 games, there are more than a hundred Nvidia 3-D Vision-enabled games for the PC. Some streaming noninteractive content-such as this past spring's golf Masters Tournament-is also 3-D Vision-ready. Of course, whatever desktops can do, laptops will be doing soon. In November, Asus announced the first Nvidia 3-D Vision gaming laptop.

With one downloadable firmware upgrade. Sony's PlayStation 3 (US $300) will support 3-D video game titles. As of mid-May, neither Microsoft nor Nintendo had announced upgrades of their Xbox 360 ($200( and Wii ($200) systems to do 3-D gaming on this year's new line of HD 3-D television. Of course, old-fashioned red-blue anaglyph glasses-the king used for 1950s horror movies-can be used for a 3-D effect with any console and any television. In fact, Majesco Entertainment's new shooter Attact of the MOvies 3-D ($30 Xbox, Wii) draws inspiration from the 3-D creature features of yesteryear-and gives its users four pairs of kitschy plastic gel glasses for the full dimensional experience.

The world of 3-D video games, any gamer will tell you, is almost as old as video games in color: Nintendo titles in the late 1980s like Rad Racer and 3-D WorldRunner each had 3-D modes that used red and blue passive eyeglasses to produce images that jumped off the screen just like 1950s era movie monsters.

What's new in 2010 is the prospect of 3-D games running on the new 3-D television sets coming onto the market place. Sony is promoting 3-D video games on its PlayStation 3-firmware upgradable to run on 3-D TVs.

With the exception of LG's anomalous LD950 LCD panel-which requires merely the same cheap polarized glasses found in most 3-D movie theaters today-every consumer 3-D television in the market place uses active LCD glasses to achieve the optical illusion of depth. Turning each eye's lens dark and transparent again 60 or so times per second-and alternating that with another 60 or so "winks" per second in the other eye-active 3-D glasses give the relatively slow brain the impression of depth form the flat screen. You'll know that 3-D TV has really caught on when high-end eyewear designers start making frames for active 3-D glasses that look as flattering on the face as they make the television's frame look to you.

The bad news: For at least the next few years, cable and satellite set-top boxes won't match the full HD resolution to each eye that 3-D Blu-ray discs do(1080p). The good news: This bit of hardware probably doesn't need replacing, just a (typically free) firmware upgrade.

Box makers have for the moment pushed to keep their 3-D and 2-D content the same size image with the same number of frames per second. Inevitably, it's 3-D's resolution that suffers. "Side-by-side 3-D" (which DirectTV uses) squishes the images seen by the left and right eye into a standard high-def frame (makeing the iamge that each eye sees 960 by 1080 instead of the full-HD 1920 by 1080), while "top/bottom 3-D" does the same trick in the vertical dimension. In both cases, the set-top box splits up the image being transmitted and fills the whole of your TV screen with the left eye's image while syncing with the active glasses to darken the right eye, and then vice versa.

That means any 3-D HD Blue-ray player on the market today that sports the 3-D Blue-ray logo will support the highest standard definition for 3-D content-1080p 3-D to both eyes at 240 frames per second-and will also spin regular Blu-ray discs and those stacks of DVDs and CDs in your media cabinet.
