On what it’s like to see herself on the screen: “Laurence Olivier was asked, ‘Actors, what’s the impulse? Why?’ And he was just like, ‘Look at me, look at me, look at me, look at me….’ That was his answer. But at the same time it’s like, ‘Nooo, don’t look at me. Look at some version that I’m going to present to you. Let me control it.’ ”

Premiere: What made you go back to Cannes with Cosmopolis?

David Cronenberg: The festival and I have a long history. In a sense I have the feeling of coming home. I think it is an ideal film for Cannes and I’m excited about the idea of having ​​Rob with me.

Q: Today it is impossible to imagine someone for this part. However, you offered it before to Colin Farrell …

DC: When Colin left the project to film the remake of Total Recall, it made me rethink everything. Anyway he was too old for the part: he’s 35 and I wanted to be faithful to the book, it was necessary to have 25 year old actor. Then I started to check all the actors of that age and that’s how I thought of Rob. I had seen him in Twilight, of course, but nothing he had done so far really predisposed him to act in Cosmopolis. Even tho you choose an actor by the perceived potential you see in him and not by his resume. And the more I thought aout it, the more I liked the idea.

Q: Did he went through an audition?

DC: No. We talked a lot on the phone. Rob is not one of those people with a big ego. He really wanted to make the movie, but seriously wondered if he could. It was his only concern. He said “do you really think I’m good enough to play this part? I’m afraid to ruin your movie.” I told him that this conversation more than convinced me that he was perfect for Cosmopolis.

Q: It’s hard to imagine you watching Twilight. Have you seen all four movies?

DC: (laughs). No, not really. I must have seen one and a half.

Q: The saga has made him a star, but has also created an absurd situation: people who have not seen him act shout that he is an idol for young girls, and lacking any talent.

DC: This reflects the world we live in today, where the Internet, among other things, promotes this kind of hasty and dangerous judgement. I ignore them and try to see beyond. The advantage is that Rob’s fans are waiting for the moment when he will show everyone that he is able to exist beyond Twilight. And if they’re all going to see Cosmopolis, I don’t worry about the future of the film.

Q: How did the other actors react when you told them that Robert Pattinson would have the lead role?

DC: Paul Giamatti, who was one of the first actors to join the cast, thought it was a brilliant idea. I’m not sure if Juliette Binoche could have weighed the popularity of Rob when she signed for the film, but none of them expressed doubt or contempt about him. Nobody told me: “What the hell were you thinking when you hired the guy from Twilight?” Quite the contrary. In fact, I caught Rob and Juliette having very deep conversations about French cinema. They got along really well.

Q: Do you have in mind a particular scene in which he has impressed you.

DC: By the end of the shoot, he was so into his role that we would only do one or two takes per shot. And he surprised every time by the way he managed to secure all the emotions that were at stake. He was completely impregnated with the loneliness and pain of the character. Because we shot the film more or less in chronological order, the final scene we shot was the last. And I just needed to do one take because of how perfect Rob and Paul were. When I said “cut” all crew members looked stunned by what had just happened.

Q: Seeing Robert Pattinson in the movie, you immediately think of Johnny Depp and Brad Pitt, who were teen idols before they could really show their potential when directed by Tim Burton and David Fincher …

DC: Some actors become stars thanks to their pretty faces and a charisma that comes off well on the screen. At first, they’re rarely offered the opportunity to show more than that. But it happens that they only have this to show… With Cosmopolis I was proud to give Rob a chance to prove the ability of his talent. If he does well, I see him having, with no difficulty, a career like Johnny Depp’s or Brad Pitt’s. Or maybe even better.

Noel Fisher was interviewed by Purple Revolver about Twilight and Shameless.

Purple Revolver: How was it joining a group of actors who had worked on so many of the Twilight films already?

Noel Fisher: “It’s been a very welcoming expereince. There were so many people who were veterans of the series and who had already created a kind of family, but they were all very good at welcoming all the newbies.

“But the other good thing was that were so many new people joining the cast it was kind of like having a whole new family joining.”

PR: Did you feel any pressure taking on a role in a series that has been so hugely popular and scrutinized?

NF: “More than pressure there was a feeling of not quite believing that it had happened.”

PR: So are you ready for all the Twilight mania then?

NF: “I think so. There is a massive, dedicated fan base, but my experience of them so far has been very welcoming too and very supportive.

Shooting is underway in London on Vertigo Films’ Viking story Hammer of the Gods, the debut from Farren Blackburn.

Set in Viking Britain in 871 AD, Hammer of the Gods is described as “a visceral, intense tale set in a world whose only language is violence”.  The film will follow a young Viking warrior, Steinar (Charlie Bewley), sent by his father the King on a quest to find his estranged brother.

Charlie Bewley (Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn part 2, Like Crazy) stars as Steiner, aslongside Ivan Kaye (Layer Cake, Dark Shadows) and James Cosmo (Braveheart, Game Of Thrones). Matthew Read has written the script.

Blackburn’s recent TV credits include The Fadesand 2011 Doctor Who Christmas special The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe.

Protagonist are on board for international sales.

Producer Rupert Preston said of the project: “This will be an exciting, barbaric, stylish and heroic film that will entertain genre fans around the world.”

The six week shoot will take place in London and Wales.

Both Twilight stars earned the same amount of money over the last 12 months, $26.5 million. So how did Lautner beat Pattinson? Fame. Lautner simply garnered more press attention. Because Lautner had the filmAbduction in theaters within the last 12 months in addition to Twilight: Breaking Dawn, he was in the press and on TV and the web more than Pattinson.

To compile our list we talk to dozens of agents, managers, producers, lawyers and other people in the know to come up with estimates for what each celebrity earned over the past 12 months. We don’t deduct for things like taxes, agent or manager fees.

We then combine that earnings number with a fame metric based on web hits, press mentions, TV and radio mentions, magazine covers and social networking prowess. The result is out Celebrity 100 power list.

THR article describing the difficulty in getting OTR made!

For the role of Sal and Dean’s free-spirited companion, Marylou, Salles had found little-known actress Kristen Stewart through Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu.

“‘Look no further,’ ” Salles remembers the Babel director telling him. “‘I’ve just seen the first cut of Sean Penn‘s Into the Wild, and there’s this 16-year-old girl you’ll fall in love with.’” But once she became a star of the blockbuster Twilight franchise, much maneuvering was required to accommodate her schedule. It was critical that filming on Road end before October 2010, when shooting needed to start on Breaking Dawn — Parts 1 and 2. To Salles’ relief, Stewart remained committed to the role for which she received about one-hundredth of her $20 million salary for Breaking Dawn — Part 2.

“There is something scary and unpredictable and animalistic about Marylou,” she explains about her attraction to the character.

When On the Road debuts in May at Cannes, audiences will see whether the film warrants these years of effort. They also will see whether Stewart, 22 (whose Twilight co-star Robert Pattinson is in Cannes, too, with Cosmopolis), has the chops to create a post-vampire career. And they will see whether Salles, 56, can repeat the success of his most recent Cannes triumph, Motorcycle Diaries.

Warner Bros. was the first studio to try to make On the Road, offering Kerouac $110,000 to option the novel. Much to his chagrin, his agent, Sterling Lord, turned it down, hoping for more money, which never materialized.

In other BBFC decisions, the upcoming drama Cosmopolis, directed by David Cronenberg and starring Robert Pattinson, also gets a 15 certificate for “strong sex and language.” It is due in cinemas on June 15, 2012, and has a running time of 1 hour 49 minutes. Pattinson recently spoke about the film and his attempts to move on from associations with the Twilight franchise.

Alex Meraz and his wife, Kim, have welcomed their second son, Talus Alexander Meraz.
“He was born last week,” a source close to the couple tells Life & Style.
The pair already have one son, Somak. Alex and Kim got married in December 2007 in Santa Barbara, Calif., while Kim was pregnant with their first child.
“Alex is so happy as a father,” pal Iscah Trujillo, who photographed the couple during Kim’s first pregnancy, has said about the 27-year-old actor. “He loves it. And you can really see the love come through.”

Maggie Grace has been cast in a big role on Californication that could lead to its own series spinoff. Here are the details from Deadline:

Lost alumna Maggie Grace is set for a major nine-episode arc on the upcoming sixth season of Showtime’s dark comedy Californication, playing the role of Faith. The part was designed as heavily recurring with a regular option behind it, so if it chooses to, Showtime could do a separate series centered on that character. Faith is described as a former Catholic school girl-turned-groupie who has been on the road with various bands for years and is considered a muse to elite artists. Though she has a fondness for sex, drugs and rock and roll, she remains quite religious. She meets and becomes friends with Hank Moody (David Duchovny) and eventually, that friendship blossoms into more.
