Authorities have hunted down several torrent and piracy sites but Pirate bay has been the only ship sailing high and proud.

There have been multiple attempts to ban, digrace, discourage, litigate Pirate bay, but it has survived and will survive. Pirate bay, moved their domain from TLD .org to .se to get out of U.S.’s control. Now, they are actually becoming Torrentless. They are getting rid of all the torrent files as they move to magnet links, which make them 100% clean.

One of the advantages of the transition to a “magnet site” is that it requires relatively little bandwidth to host a proxy site. This is needed, because The Pirate Bay is currently blocked in several countries, and more are bound to follow in the months to come.

Without torrents, the Pirate Bay also becomes extremely portable which makes it possible for people to download a personal backup. Using script called “allisfine” we managed to copy the title, id, file size, seeds, leechers and magnet links of 1,643,194 torrents. Comments were not copied to keep the files as small as possible, and the end result is a full copy of all magnet links on The Pirate Bay in a 90 megabytes file, 164 megabytes unzipped.

Download Pirate bay zip, while it lasts.

With the release of the copy everyone can now download a personal backup of The Pirate Bay in a few minutes. If you want to, you can search these text files to get almost any torrent but its not going to be convenient, but fun for sure.

Its justified if their claim is about analog cables like VGA (RGB) and audio cables where signal to noise ration is directly proportional to quality.

Better the cable, less the cross-talk, less the noise, better signal you get. But is it the same for digital cables like HDMI? Short answer, you DON’T need an expensive cable. Long answer: read on.
Signal Quality & Factors

HDMI & DVI use Transition Minimized Differential Signaling (TMDS).

Transition Minimized: The binary data (1s and 0s) at the source of a Bluray or HD box is not exactly the 1s and 0s your TV uses to create a picture. Before sending the signal out via the HDMI output, the 1s and 0s are optimized to minimize how many transitions there are. So instead of 10101010, the transmission may look like 11110000. Even though you might think the whole data is changed, its not hard to re-contruct the data at receiving end.

Differential Signaling: Each HDMI cable is actually multiple, small copper wires. Two versions of the data are sent over different wires. One of these is out of phase with the “real” signal. The TV receives all the data, puts the out-of-phase signal back in phase, then compares it to the “real” signal. Any noise picked up along the way will now be out of phase, and as such it is effectively negated and ignored.
This is exactly how Twisted pair in LAN networking works, there is no affect of external noise.

In digital world, either its all right or all wrong, no change of something in between. With HDMI signal, you either get everything and it’s perfect, or it isn’t perfect and you get nothing.

When there can be a problem

But there are scenarios where you’ve a long hdmi cable and you can have trouble in signal quality. If HDMI cable is faulty (this means one of the wires inside cable is broken) you would get white pixels. This a very rare scenario & is called Sparkles more like snow or sometimes static white pixels: image credit: cnet

Sparkles are not noise. They are failures that denote something is broken and you need a new HDMI cable.

No difference in Quality, whatsoever

But the thing to remember is that there is NO way that one HDMI cable would have “better picture quality” than another.
All the claims about differences in picture quality are remnants of the analog days, which were barely valid then and not at all valid now.

This is true for both Video & Audio, in fact audio has even better error correction, no way one cable is better than another.
Types of HDMI Cable

There are only 4 types of HDMI cables:
High Speed (also called Category 2) 1080p with or without Ethernet, and Standard Speed (Category 1) 1080i with or without Ethernet.

There is no difference in 100hz, 120hz, 200hz, 240hz cable. Its only 4 types of cables that we already mentioned. Everything else is a marketing gimmick. You don’t need a new HDMI cable for 3d, its all fake.

The HUD glasses look like Oakley Thumps having a front-facing camera used to gather information and could aid in augmented reality apps. the camera can of course shoot pictures, even in the dark using a small flash. Camera is extremely small yet ranging upto few megapixels.

However, there are differences from a standard heads up display (HUD). This one is only for one eye. It is not transparent nor does it have dual 3D configurations. Among its cool features, the navigation system currently used is a head tilting-to scroll and click. We’ve leant that it is very quick to learn and once the user is adept at navigation, it becomes second nature and almost indistinguishable to outside users.

Not just that, you can control the glasses with voice input and output could also be voice. It is speculated that this device runs Android OS on an older generation hardware ~1GHz ARM A8, 256MB RAM and 8GB of storage. So it also a phone or perhaps can integrate well with phone in your pocket?

We can only speculate what it could become, but it already sounds awesome.

and yes, Motorola already demoed something related to 3d glasses at CES:

Our previous guide: Install Mac OS X 10.7 Lion on your PC was rather difficult for beginners, this one is going to be way more simpler, thanks to the UniBeast.

UniBeast + MultiBeast makes thing smooth and easy. You can Clean Install OS X Lion 10.7.2 or update Snow Leopard 10.6.x to 10.7.2.

Pre-requisites:

All you need is:

Existing Mac OS X – For preparing bootable USB. You can borrow your friend’s Macbook or even do it via any hackintosh.

8GB or Larger USB pen drive

OS X Lion Install application (via Mac App Store) OR Official Apple OS X Lion Install USB drive. (Buy it at apple.com or Apple store)

You can easily pirate an OS, but we recommend you buy OS X Lion, that ways your hackintosh becomes semi-legal.

Update: We’re trying to make this OS X Lion guide compatible with OS X Lion 10.7.3 Update. Stay tuned.

How to Install OS X Lion 10.7.2 on PC [Laptop, Desktop] using USB

Step 1. Creating Bootable USB drive

I. Formatting your USB pen drive:

On a Mac OS X, insert blank 8gb usb drive, Open Disk Utility (Applications > Utilities).

Select your USB drive on left and click Partition tab on the right. Click Current, and choose 1 Partition.

Give it a name e.g. Geeknizer.

Click Options, select Master Boot Record and hit Ok.

Navigate to Format tab and choose Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and Apply, then Partition.

II. Modding OS X Lion with Unibeast.

If you’re using Install Mac OS X Lion Application (downloaded via App Store), make sure its available in Applications folder. In case you’re using OS X Lion USB drive, make sure its connected and mounted.

Download UniBeast and run it. (You’ll need to register on tonymac forums)

Proceed normally, when asked for destination choose your USB drive (geeknizer) that you formatted earlier.

Choose your installation type: Mac App store Install Mac OS X Lion or Thumb drive. If you will install this on a Laptop, check mark third option “Laptop Support” too. Click continue, then Install.

Sit back and relax while your USB pen drive (geeknizer) is prepared for the Hackintosh.

Step 2. Installing OS X Lion on PC

Go to the PC you would want to hackintosh.

I. Preparing BIOS:

While booting, press F12 (or f10 on older PCs) to enter BIOS settings.

Go to boot priority and set USB-HDD to highest.

Set HDD SATA mode to AHCI.

Set ACPI to S3

Set Xtreme hard drive to Disabled.

Now reboot your PC with geeknizer USB plugged in and you would be booted into Chimera boot screen that lets you boot from USB drive. For booting into installer, you may need to enter following flags.

Nvidia cards are supported by default. For AMD Radeon 6670 type – “PCIRootUID=0″

For Unsupported graphics type – “GraphicsEnabler=No”

Boot in single-suer mode – “-s”

Boot in verbose mode – use this if you face any issues, this will show detailed error messages that you can post in comments section at the end of the post – “-v”

Boot in Sage mode – Try this if you fail to boot into installer – “-x”

II. Preparing Hard disk partition for OS X Install

When you see the installation screen, follow the following steps, skip them if you’re upgrading from Snow Leopard.

Warning: This will erase all data on your HDD.

Open Disk Utility ( Menubar > Utilities). Select your target Hard disk on left > Partiton tab > Choose 1 Partition > Options > GUID Partition Method.

Give it a name e.g. LionGeek, Format > Choose Mac OS Extended (Journaled)

If you wish to install side-by-side with windows installation, create a new partition instead and format it with Mac OS Extended (Journaled). However, using HDD exclusively for OS X Macintosh installation would avoid a lot of trouble.

III. Proceeding with the Installation

Proceed with Installation and when Installer asks you the location to install Lion to choose LionGeek.

When installation completes, restart system.

IV. Booting the First time

At this point your LionGeek is not bootable, boot from geeknizer USB drive and choose LionGeek when prompted.

Download Multibeast, the one stop solution to fix Boot, all drivers for Audio, Graphics, Network. It also includes system utilities to repair permissions and more.

Go to DSDT database and Download DSDT corresponding to your motherboard. It would download a .aml file, move it to Desktop.

Run MultiBeast’s UserDSDT, select the .aml file and proceed with the install. Reboot when done.

Run MultiBeast and install any other drivers you may need to make your hardware peripherals like Sound, Network to work.

You should now have a fully self-booting OS X Lion installation.

Updating Hackintosh to 10.7.3 & later

One thing to remember is that updating to pretty straightforward and you won’t run into issues, but it’s good to check tonymacx86′s blog when updates are released to see what you’ll need to do. In most cases you’ll just download the latest update from Apple directly (rather than running Software Update), remove Sleepenabler.kext (provided you’re using it), and then re-install it and any overwritten drivers using MultiBeast.

In most cases, the only driver you’ll have to reinstall is the AppleHDA Rollback, because that driver needs to be installed directly into your System Library where OS X makes changes. If you made any edits to graphics drivers, the update may overwrite them so you’ll need to make those edits to the new, updated drivers as well.

Download the updater directly from Apple rather than Software update. If you ever get into trouble, restoring from a backup is considerably less time-consuming than going through this entire process again from scratch.

Its easy to be lost somewhere in the middle, feel free to ask questions via @geeknizer or +Geeknizer or in the comments below. Windows Phone 8 would follow the same trend for Windows phone 7.x with MEtro UI and take it further.

The core & features

All modern smartphone OS like iOS 5 & Android ICS 4.0.x support Multicore processors ground up. However, WIndows Phone 7.x is still lying in dark with no support for dual ormulticore processors. Windows Phone 8 will change this, by endorsing a same kernel as Windows 8. Windows Phone 8 would also support NFC, and full device encryption. Microsoft will also implement a “tap to share” capability, to enable easy sharing of content between phones, desktops, laptops, and tablets.

Windows Phone 8 is codenamed “Apollo” and will support processors with up to four cores, four different (and unspecified) screen resolutions, NFC for contactless payment, and removable microSD storage.

Data Management

Coming on-par with iOS & Android, Windows Phone 8 will now include full device encryption, based on the same technology as desktop Windows’ BitLocker encryption. WP8 Apollo will sport richer support for Exchange ActiveSync policies, and Systems Center inventorying and management. There will also be greater support for private deployment of custom line-of-business applications.

Inheriting Windows 8

Under the bonnet, lot of features would be inherited from Windows 8 desktop OS: networking stacks, security subsystems, and multimedia support, web browser i.e. Internet Explorer 10. To further improve web experience on WP8 devices, Microsoft plans to use server-side compression and proxying to reduce the amount of data needed to load webpages by a claimed 30 percent.

Apps & compatibility

WP8 would provide full backward compatibility for apps designed for WP7. The “most” code will be portable between the desktop and the phone. We would expect this to mean that Metro-style applications written using Windows 8′s WinRT will be readily portable to WP8 with minor modifications.

Windows 8 copies Android’s Intent based sharing to communicate with other apps, nicely renaming the concept to “contracts” that enables applications to communicate with each other in certain standard ways. Of course, it comes to Windows Phone 8 too.

WP8 also include a monitor for per app data metrics, similar to that of Android ICS & Windows 8 “Data Smart”.

Music, VoIP, Cloud Integration

You will also get the latest Microsoft’s acquisition, Skype integrated well into the WP8. Skype would be integrated directly to phone’s dialer, like Google Voice on Android. Hardware OEMs will have more control over the camera application, enabling features such as smile detection and burst shooting.

As of today, Windows Phone 7 uses the desktop Zune client to sync music and video; this will be dropped in favor of cloud by using SkyDrive, just like iCloud on iOS5, or Google cloud on Android.

You will be able to listen to your music collection on a new Windows Phone 8 handset without ever having to pair it to the PC, over the SkyDrive. This syncing will also extend to the Xbox.

WP8 would finally bring Windows Phones upto the level of iOS 5, Android 4.0 ICS, only year later. Lets hope Microsoft doesn’t get there late, this time.

E.g. with an Android Phone with USB host controller, you can connect USB pen drive, USB mass storage, external Printers, keyboards, mouse and what not.

XDA developer sztupy’s USB Host Controller takes advantage of native OTG Host functionality (available in many high-end Android devices) makes it easily accessible for the end user. The app is capable of showing the connected usb devices, and lets you mount external harddisks and connect as mass storage devices to the filesystem.
It does most of things very well and it has the ability to reload partition tables and reseting USB devices. It can also control the USB Host functionality of S5PC210 devices with the appropriate kernel patch.

USB Host API was made available for 3.x and above Android devices, but this app doesn’t depend on it and hence can run on older android 2.x devices, but requires root access.

If your device doesn’t have native USB OTG functionality, there are kernel patches for some older devices to enable the functionality, most notably for:

5PC210 based Samsung phones (Galaxy S, Captivate, Nexus S)

QSD8250 based HTC phones (G1, Nexus One, Desire, Incredible)

XDA developer mnomaanw has successfully installed Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows XP and Linux on HTC EVO 3D in a fairly easy process. To summarize, all a user needs to do is download the required software, modify a file or two and run the apk. And it boots into Windows.

This Windows port for Phones is one of the best ever. It does fair justice to the hardware buttons, touchscreen by giving you fairly easy controls.

How to Install Windows 95, 98, XP on Android Phone: HTC EVO 3D

Pre-requisites: Windows 95/98/XP Image: ISO or .IMG. (IMG preferred and tested).
Step 1. Download bochs.apk [mirror] and SDL.zip [mirror]. Put SDL.zip on root of sdcard/
Step 2. Put the Windows 95/98/XP disk image .img/.iso [(need to change setting in bochsrc.txt accordingly (iso not tested yet)] of any operating system in SDL folder and rename it to “c.img”.
Step 3. Run Bochs apk. Let it boot (takes a while) and enjoy.

Note: Use this bochsrc.txt to use a folder called “HDD” on your sdcard as a drive in windows. Replace the original bochsrc.txt withthe one stated before. Further updates on xda thread.

Instructions for input controls are as follows:

To emulate touchpad on touchscreen and left/right mouse buttons on volume

You can also click touch screen to generate mouse left button click.(this does not work everytime)

Back = BackSpace, Menu = Enter, left-upper corner click generates TAB

left-lower corner click popups keyboard

Apple would never let the powerful system apps to make their way to App Store. So all your mods and hacks would remain in the Cydia store.

Right now developing apps for Jailbroken iOS devices hasn’t been streamlined. One had to include several dependencies manually. iOSOpenDev aims to help Tweak developers to convert the ideas into app for Cydia Store in matter of minutes.

iOSOpenDev is essentially a ‘template for tweaksters’. iOSOpenDev makes development of Jailborken apps a breeze whether they’re based on Activator, MobileSubstrate, Notification Center or command-line. It does all the routine jobs like building debian packages (.deb files), and provides all the necessary facilities in order for you to submit your tweak into a Cydia repository: BigBoss or ModMyi repos.

Prior to iOSOpenDev, you had to do a lot of steps with Theos manually. iOSOpenDev comes packed with Xcode templates for creating jailbreak-style tweaks, including Activator listeners, command line tools, dynamic libraries, NotificationCenterwidgets, SBSettings toggles, and Mobile Substrate tweaks. It does not use ‘Theos’, however. Normally, jailbreak app developers do not use Xcode or other development tools of Apple iOS to create their packages. And since AppStore App developers use Xcode extensively, this is a golden opportunity for them to learn how to prepare packages for Cydia distribution and create tweaks for the jailbreak community.

iOSOpenDev is currently at a beta stage, but it should get better with time, of course its the first step towards Open development on iOS, way to go.

Video of a template for building SBSettings Toggle:

James is currently finalizing packaging and testing across multiple OS X installs to iron out any critical bug and ensure stability. The templates (along w/ a config for Xcode & SDK to allow such builds) will be publicly available in a few days.

Note: This app is just for fun, it doesn’t cause any damages to anyone other than annoyance. Use it with precaution.

The project is similar to the Upside-down-ternet project: from the phone you can flip pictures on someone’s computer upside down. There are couple of fun things you can do with this app. It lets you:

Flip pictures on someone’s PC.

Change Google searches keywords,

redirect websites to some other sites,

and many more features to come.

App works well in combination with Shark for Android – combined they allow you to capture packets when logged onto wifi networks.

Simply install from the Android Market (on a rooted device running >2.2), and download the setup files from the application. This requires about 600MB free SD card space. The program needs the phone to be rooted, and have busybox (most custom firmwares have this).

Developers can contribute at Launchpad (main project) and Sourceforge.

Download the App from Market.

The biggest debuts for a U.S. company is almost here as Facebook readies itself for its Initial Public offering. The Social networking company is valued at one of the highest ever nearing for a young Tech company: $75 billion to $100 billion.

With 800 million+ users, its a country of its own. Facebook would file IPO around Wednesday of next week (i.e. Early Feb 2012). Morgan Stanley would be leading the deal, but it could fall into hands of Gold man sachs as well, who valued them last year.

Of course Facebook and other investors have refused to talk about the matter but its already going deeper as me news resources. People familiar with the matter have said the company is targeting an IPO sometime between April and June.

A $10 billion Facebook offering would rank 4th among IPOs for U.S. companies. It would beat the record set by Google Inc., which raised $1.9 billion in 2004 at a $23 billion valuation. At a $100 billion valuation, Facebook would be worth about the same as McDonald’s Corp. and nearly half of Google. The IPO will mint a new generation of Silicon Valley millionaires on the level not seen since Google’s offering. Some 3,000 people work at Facebook.

Like Google, Facebook’s revenue is driven by advertising. In 2011, Facebook achieved $3.8 billion revenue.

For last few years, Facebook was reluctant about going public but it all makes more sense now as they could start gaining some financial benefit from an IPO, rather than stay private but have to release its financial information.

This year, the overall market has risen, and on Friday other Internet stocks rallied on news that Facebook would soon file for a deal. “,” said Max Wolff, an analyst at GreenCrest Capital, which researches companies going public.

The recent IPO climate hasn’t been particularly strong, but the excitement around Facebook is still enormous.

An Android device say e.g. Android tablet might be shared by multiple users and obviously, everyone wants a different profile/user to configure things as per there likes/dislikes. In other cases, you might need clean user profiles that provide an android environment which is totally different from another reason.

SwitchMe lets Android users switch User accounts, Profiles just like they can do it on a Windows, Mac OS X PC. SwitchMe allows users to create profiles specific to their needs. Those profiles are saved, can be loaded whenever and users can create new profiles that are on whole new installations on Android.

SwitchMe is a unique application for root users that allows you to log in and out of multiple installations of Android just as you would on a desktop computer. The technology behind SwitchMe saves all of your applications and data, protects it and stores it as a file in memory. You can then log out of an account and log into a fresh installation of Android or another account with its own unique content.

You may create as many profiles as the memory is capable of holding. Some of these may require very little free memory because they contain few apps, others will be larger as they contain many applications and lots of cache and data.
The uses for such an app are plentiful, as ftgg99 explains:

Privacy – the most obvious benefit is that you can securely share one device among multiple users, which gives you privacy and peace of mind.

Testing – if you are a developer, you can use profiles as clean sandboxes to test your applications and their interaction with the system.

Gaming – with multiple installations of Android on a single device, you can now play online MMOs as different characters.

Speed – the games your kids play slow down your tablet, but with SwitchMe you can easily create profiles without games or instant messengers.

Battery life – when the battery is low but there are important emails or documents to edit later, switch to a profile which only contains these essentials.

You can download it from Android Market for free. Perhaps, Siri takes it to another level.

Lingual for iPhone 4S offers functionality based on Siri tweak. Lingual would leverage the latest AssistantExtensions mod, allowing users to dictate a word or phrase to Siri and request real time translation in one of the 35 supported languages. As of now, AssistantExtensions is available via Cydia for free. Developers can write plugins to hook into the Extension tweak, and Lingual has done exactly that.

Of course you need to have your iPhone 4s jailbroken on iOS 5.0.x and AssistantExtensions installed.

How to use Siri to Translate Languages.

Install AssistantExtensions, then Linugal from cydia. Then onwards Siri would understand all your Translate requests.

Translation commands would go like “translate [phrase] to [language]” or “what is [phrase] in [language]” and Siri will respond instantaneously with the required translation. It is indeed a blessing for anyone travelling abroad or trying to learn a foreign language. Try it out, watch the video below after a break:

Note: Lingual will be available in the coming days on Cydia. we’ll notify you as soon as it is available, subscribe below:

Researchers at the Niels Bohr Institute have managed to successfully combine two different worlds: Quantum physics & Nano physics.

Semiconductors are building blocks of Technology and gadgets and the limiting factor of Silicon chips has always been heat dissipation: More efficiently we can remove heat from semiconductor chips, higher clock they can run on.

LASERs are here to save the future, as they pave way to building most effective, efficient means of cooling Semiconductors.

How LASER Cooling works

Ironically, cooling is observed by actually heating the material. Using lasers, researchers cooled membrane fluctuations to minus 269 degrees C with fractions of energy utilization.

“In experiments, we succeeded in achieving a new and efficient cooling of a solid material by using lasers. We have produced a semiconductor membrane with a thickness of 160 nanometers and an unprecedented surface area of 1 by 1 millimeter,” explained Koji Usami, associate professor at Quantop at the Niels Bohr Institute. “In the experiments, we let the membrane interact with the laser light in such a way that its mechanical movements affected the light that hit it. We carefully examined the physics and discovered that a certain oscillation mode of the membrane cooled from room temperature down to minus 269 degrees C, which was a result of the complex and fascinating interplay between the movement of the membrane, the properties of the semiconductor and the optical resonances.

What is worth noting here is that even though the membrane is getting a little bit warmer overall, the membrane is cooled at a certain oscillation and the cooling can be controlled with laser light. So it is cooling by warming! Laser cooling of atoms has been work in progress for years in the institute and they have successfully cooled gas clouds of cesium atoms down to near absolute zero i.e. minus 273 degrees C – using focused lasers – while creating entanglement between two atomic systems.

This is like rocket science, but they make it sound so easy.

What it means for Science & Computing

It Opens entirely new possibilities for a new field of Science called Optomechanics, which is the interaction between light, and a mechanical motion. Optomechanics could pave the way for cooling components in quantum computers, computers of the Future.

This invention could also lead to the development of new sensors for electric current and mechanical forces. Such cooling in some cases could replace expensive cryogenic cooling, which is used today and could result in extremely sensitive sensors that are only limited by quantum fluctuations. The possibilities are endless, you could hold a supercomputer without melting your hands in the future, thanks to Laser cooling.

We all admire and use reopen last closed tabs on our favorite modern browsers. It comes really handy when we accidentally close a running browser tab or realize immediately after closing it that you missed something.

What if it was possible to ReOpen closed explorer windows, Applications. Thanks to UndoClose, its possible on Windows.

Windows 7 application windows has totally different way of operating, even though it maintains a list of recently opened programs and items in Start Menu, it doesn’t support bringing them up again using a hotkey.

UndoClose remembers all recently closed folders and applications, and lets you restore them in the same sequence in which they were closed using two hotkeys.

Using two hotkeys you can do pretty much all. Use Ctrl+Shift+F to open last closed folder (in Windows Explorer) and Ctrl+Shift+A, to open last closed application. You can use them multiple times to cycle through the history. You can even change the hotkeys from Settings of the application that sits silently in system tray.

Application is light weight and eats nominal RAM. No installation required, its portable across all version of Windows7.

Here’s our comprehensive list of Apps, Tweaks for iOS 5, iOS 5.0.1 on iPad 2.

1. RetinaPad

Normally iPhone apps run at double scale on iPad and they look ugly. RetinaPad enables Retina display functionality on iPad. Instead of running apps at a normal iPhone screen size, or at two times the resolution, RetinaPad alleviates that problem by rendering applications in a different fashion giving it a sharp look as if it was designed for iPad. RetinaPad is available on the BigBoss repo for $2.99.

2. FullForce

An app very similar to RetinaPad but with a different approach. Instead of scaling iPhone applications and rendering them to be sharper and clearer on the iPad screen, FullForce brutally forces the applications full screen. For some applications it works perfectly, but for others you get a distorted application experience. You can try both of these mods and use the one that you like better.

3. FullScreen for Safari

Native Safari browser has good support for tabs but it still covers a large portion of the screen with it’s Chrome. Fullscreen for Safari makes Safari Chromeless, it not only full screen Safari, but also the support for gestures: swipes, shakes. Using these inputs you can switch between working tabs, go back, go forward and close the current tab. Its fully configurable via Settings. Available via BigBoss repo for $2.19.

4. iFile for iPad

iFile is a file manager straightforward. iFile allows fast navigation through the file system with inbuilt support for various file types: PDF, ZIP and most Video & Images.

iFile also features a built-in web server which allows files to be uploaded and downloaded at will. iFile is shareware, you can try it free initially.

5. Activator

Activator provides centralized gestures, button and shortcut managements for iOS. Activator allow users to assign certain gestures or button presses to user defined operations. You can change any of the default or app based gestures to suit to your needs

Activator is free and available in BigBoss repo.

6. NoLockScreen

For the impatient ones: NoLockScreen removes swipe to unlock screen, so when you press power or home button in standy mode, device directly comes to home or app screen, no lockscreen. Its available for free via BigBoss Repo.

7. Music Controls Pro

This is how the Music app should have been. It inherits features from Android’s PowerAMP music player. You can control music with swipes, gestures. Among other features, there is support for third-party track information, video playback in background, Notification Center plugins and status bar integration. Music Controls Pro also has support for 46 different popular music applications. Its available via BigBoss repo for $5.99.

8. SBSettings

You can configure all of your frequently used items: Toggles, notifications and pull them down witha simple left to right swipe on notification bar. Users can swipe and simply toggle settings on or off as opposed to navigating through the boring settings app. SBSettings is available free via the BigBoss Repository.

9. ProTube HD

The way Youtube app was meant to be on iPad. With ProTube HD you can download videos in high definition, stream to an AirPlay enabled device and also extract only the audio and add to iPod playing list

ProTube you enables you to browse, play, favorite and comment on videos as well as maintain and operating a registered account. ProTube HD is available on the Big Boss repo for $1.49.

10. FolderEnhancer

FolderEnhancer lets you create multiple pages of icons within a folder, have folders inside of folders, assign folders to the dock and opens folders a lot faster than the native experience. Its available via BigBoss repo.

Bonus:

TwitkaFly: One stop solution for all you regular Twitter usages. Integrates with activator, quickly reply tweets and do more for $1.99 via Big Boss repository.

WinterBoard: The good old customization back from iOS 2.0 world. WinterBoard allows users to perform certain graphical changes to the iPad. Winterboard has loads of themes that you can play with which includes all graphics aspects of UI and even sounds. Of course its free.

Such security is really consumer grade, its secure in the real world but may not be secure enough for driving Top most secret tasks like the ones Government agencies like NSA is involved with.

The National Security Agency (NSA) released the first version of their custom build of Google’s popular OS, called Security Enhanced Android. The system is designed to minimize the impact of security holes on Android. The SEAndroid project is enabling the use of SELinux in Android in order to limit the damage that can be done by flawed or malicious apps.

SEAndroid is born with robust support for:

Per-file security labeling support for yaffs2,

Filesystem images (yaffs2 and ext4) labeled at build time,

Kernel permission checks controlling Binder IPC,

Labeling of service sockets and socket files created by init,

Labeling of device nodes created by ueventd,

Flexible, configurable labeling of apps and app data directories,

Userspace permission checks controlling use of the Zygote socket commands,

Minimal port of SELinux userspace,

SELinux support for the Android toolbox,

Small TE policy written from scratch for Android,

Confined domains for system services and apps,

Use of MLS categories to isolate apps.

You can integrate SEAndroid into your own Custom ROM. First, you should make sure that you are able to successfully download, build and run the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) source code by following the instructions starting from http://source.android.com/source/initializing.html

Once you have successfully built and run AOSP, you can obtain a local manifest specifying the SE Android git trees from http://selinuxproject.org/~seandroid/local_manifest.xml. Copy this file to the .repo subdirectory of your AOSP clone, and then run repo sync. Your tree should now include the SE Android modifications. For further dev info, visit the official Wiki.

The good news comes for Jailbreak iOS 5 on A5 devices after 520+ days spent by PlanetBeing. He recently tweeted about the progress on 11th January, updating that he had managed to escape the Apple Sandbox.

Update: HowTo: Jailbreak iOS 5 Untethered iPad2, iPhone 4S

The most recent update which has brightened up Twitter users timeline today has come from PlanetBeing. The announcement that he has finally managed to get his iPhone 4S to run unsigned code and even more recently, iPad 2 was jailbroken to run Cydia:

iOS 5.0.1 Untethered Jailbreak on iPhone 4S, iPad 2

Important: Attention all A5: iPad 2, iPhone 4S users

Are you still rocking iOS 4.3.3 on your jailbroken iPad 2? Time to bite the bullet and upgrade to iOS 5.0.1. If you don’t, you might lose your window to jailbreak iOS 5.

Apple is due to release 5.1 soon. When that happens, they will stop signing 5.0.1. This means you will only be able to restore to 5.1. 5.1 breaks the upcoming jailbreak. If you are currently a 4s owner or an ipad 2 owner, you will want to Update your device to 5.0.1 ASAP. This way when the jailbreak is released, you will be able to use it. If you do not restore to 5.0.1 now, in a few days when 5.1 is out, you may never be able to get from 5.0 to 5.0.1 and only option will be to wait again.

We know the untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 for iPhone 4S and iPad 2 are definitely coming, so if you want to make sure you have an iOS 5 jailbreak this year, better try to live without your jailbreak tweaks for the next couple of days and take the plunge into iOS 5.0.1.

How To Jailbreak Untethered iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch iOS 5.0.1

Step 1: Launch Sn0wbreeze or PwnageTool, and click next. Browse the downloaded IPSW fie for your iOS device and click next. Click the next arrow again to proceed.

Step 2: Now, if you need to preserve Unlock, make sure you preserve your iPhone’s baseband for Gevey SIM or Ultrasn0w unlock. Choose Expert Mode and click next to select target for built IPSW. Sn0wbreeze will now hack the iOS 5.0.1 IPSW file. It may take a while, please stand by.

Step 3: Connect your device and hit OK, then enter DFU mode. Don;t worry onscreen instructions would help you. When DFU mode is entered, Open iTunes, hold down left Shift key on your keyboard, hit the Restore button, and select custom firmware file you just created.

Let iTunes restore iOS 5.0.1 on your iDevice and on next boot you will have Jailbroken Untethered iOS 5.0.1. Enjoy!

Its fair to be scared, it might have a keylogger installed and incognito mode just won’t help.

Google has launched a new way to authorize and login with your credentials without actually logging in with password or keyboard onto any PC. It’s called Sesame.

How Google Gmail Sesame Authentication Works

It’s simple: Remote Autherization from your mobile. You personal mobile device’s browser is already logged-In with your Google credentials.

Step 1. Go ahead and Open http://accounts.google.com/sesame on the desktop browser where you need to access your gmail / google account.

Step 2. Launch your barcode scanner and scan the QR code that appears on /sesame. You’ll be asked to authenticate the PC for access to your Google / Gmail account.

You’ll automagically be logged into the Desktop PC. Remote authorization at its best!

Do you need a reason to workout? Here’s a one.

How about a game controlled by effort? By using your iPad, iPhone’s camera and accelerometer, BitGym can control the game, while you are making effort to burn those extra calories. You can keep the iDevice on your exercise equipment of choice. Harder you workout, more vibration are created that drives your game forward, of course, at the rate you workout.

The first one of its kind is a racer that converts rate of exercise to acceleration and head movement to steering. While you move your head around, you control the direction car steers to.

The developers will make an SDK available for just about every developer to leverage this platform.
Fitness Freeway is available now, and you can get a preview in the video below:

Fit Freeway is easy to play. The exerciser simply places an iPad or iPhone on the fitness equipment, (e.g. an exercise bike or elliptical trainer) and begins their workout. No special hardware or cables required – just the iOS device and the exercise equipment. Using BitGym’s patent-pending algorithms and motion sensing technology, Fit Freeway senses the rate of the exercise on the equipment, as well as the head position of the user. Exercise faster the accelerate your car and simply tilt your head left or right to steer.

“We think that FitFreeway is just the start for BitGym. We have ambitious plans to change the way people think about cardio. For too long people have been told to worry about minutes, miles or calories – but really what is important is that people are engaged, have tangible goals, and keep coming back. Cardio machines are awful at all these things, but with videogames we can change that. Research out of the Behavioral Medicine Laboratory at the University of Virginia sees cardio machine exergames increasing workout adherence by 83%,” says Alex Gourley, BitGym’s CEO.

Spoiler: It can work without actually working out too, just by shaking the iPad, iPhone. But don’t go lazy

2011 was the year of thin and ultralight Macbook Air where Apple proved that people are willing to sacrifice computing power if they get a gold of a light and portable laptop. Intel’s next move is about to prove Apple wrong.

Intel has introduced a new segment of Laptops that would make notebooks, netbooks things of the past. Ultrabooks is a new segment that would bring portability to laptops without sacrificing performance. Ultrabooks would be powered by dual core i5 and even upto quad core Cire i7 processors with performing GPUs, which can give enough throttle to your Ultrabook to play graphics rich games.
Lets take a look at the best Ultrabooks that caught limelight at CES 2012.<

Acer’s S5-shaped
Acer S5 weighs merely three-pound and has a 13.3-inch display that turns on instantly. The body is sleek onyx black magnesium-alloy cover. Its all-metal chassis still feels solid, and we continue to be wary of that shallow keyboard. That 15mm-thick chassis is as impressive as ever — maybe even more so, now that we know half of this year’s Ultrabooks are likely to be larger. But man, is this thing even more beautiful in the light.

Thunderbolt port and an SSD for easy flinging. It’s the world’s thinnest Ultrabook, measuring just 15mm. Sadly it’s not all great: it’s got a scratchy, shallow keyboard. The ports drop down from a motorized back cover – Thunderbirds fans out there will adore it just for that.

Dell XPS 13
XPS 13 is Dell’s first Ultrabook with thickness varying from 18 to 6mm, made from aluminum and carbon fiber. The entry-level model would sport a Core i5 CPU, 128GB SSD, 4GB RAM and a backlit keyboard. Build quality is not all that pleasing althoug its priced at $1,000.

XPS 13 weighs in less than three pounds (2.99 pounds) and has a wedge profile that tapers from 18 to 6mm. With a starting price of $1,000, it sports an aluminum lid and carbon fiber chassis — a material we love & wish more Ultrabook makers would incorporate. Generally speaking, expect this to be one of the most compact Ultrabooks around (though not the lightest).

Entry level model is Core i5 processor, 128GB SSD, 4GB of RAM and backlit keyboard, though you’ll also be able to upgrade to a 256GB SSD and either a Core i5 or i7 CPU (Sandy Bridge at launch, with Ivy Bridge to follow in a refresh later this year). Other specs include a 300-nit, 1366 x 768, Gorilla Glass display; Intel HD 3000 graphics; a 47Wh battery rated for up to eight hours; Bluetooth 3.0; and Intel’s Smart Connect and Rapid Start technologies.

Samsung Series 9
This is a revamped version of original Series 9 that was launched a year ago. It gets thinner, lighter and sexier. The 15-inch Series 9 is the only laptop that thin with that large a display. A 13-inch remake, priced at $1,399 and up, and a new 15-inch form number that will cost $1,499-plus when the two go on sale next month.

Samsung isn’t positioning the Series 9 laptops as Ultrabooks, but is quiet thing and packs Core i5 processors, 4GB of RAM, 128GB SSDs, six-hour batteries and backlit keyboards — Ultrabook-like specs if ever we’ve heard them.

Even the 15-inch model is missing an optical drive, and isn’t much larger than the last-gen Series 9. It has a solid unibody aluminum design and a heartbreakingly beautiful display: a 1600 x 900 panel with a matte finish and 400 nits of brightness.

HP Envy 14 Spectre
Envy 14 is priced at $1,400 computer and is a “premium Ultrabook,” built from glass, weighing 3.79 pounds and it measures 20mm. It has a 14″ 1600 x 900 radiance display, NFC in the palm rest, Intel Wireless Display spanning, WiDi, Wireless Audio, and Beats Audio.

But with that weight, its more like a laptop than Ultrabook. Other than that you get Core i5-2467M CPU, 4GB of RAM, a nine-hour battery, backlit keyboard, carrying case. Upgrade options include a 256GB SSD and an extra 4GB of RAM

Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga
The 17mm thick flip-over device can be used as a laptop, tablet or kickstand-tablet for movie watching. You’ll want to watch movies on this thing, too: it’s got a 1600 x 900 IPS multitouch display, unheard of in a device of this caliber. It’ll retail for around $1,000 when Windows 8 arrives, but even the prototype models scream of quality.

This as a laptop first, and tablet second. The proof is in the specs, really. It weighs “less than 1.5kg,” or 3.3 pounds, making it heavier than some Ultrabooks. Not only is its display IPS, but it boasts 1600 x 900 resolution — an unheard of pixel count for tablets, let alone most 13-inch laptops.

And when this hits, it’ll pack “next-generation” (read: Ivy Bridge) Intel Core processors — albeit, of the ULV variety. Accordingly, it has a laptop price: around $1,000, when it eventually ships, sometime later this year after Windows 8 gets finalized.

Fortunately, the battery life is worthy of a tablet: Lenovo says the 54Wh juicepack can last up to eight hours. This is the most cost effective Ultrabook we’ve seen at CES. Our bets are on it.

Asus UX21

This was announced last year, but is still the sexiest Ultrabook we’ve come acros. Checkout Asus UX21 details.
