There's been a long time and new versions of Android kept coming out (Android 4 already!) but i didn't have enough time to release a new version of my app since over a year! :( Since a lot of users now have newer versions of Android i should not abandon the app so i started working on a new version.

This new version will be mainly a stability and performance improvement (maybe one or two small new features too) so the app will be able to take advantage of what the newer versions have to offer. If you've been following new Android versions carefully and you think there's a feature which would fit into the app, feel free to suggest it.

By the way, the next version of Tag-To-Do-List will probably only work with Android 2.1 or later.

version 5.0.0: A bunch of new stuff

- edit screen optimization
- graphic note orientation bug fixed
- fixed bug about showing note thumbnails in landscape
- optional tag navigation buttons
- you can have priority show next to the task
- optional dim (less light) with the alarm screen (in case it bothers you in the morning)
- you can now share a task on Facebook and Twitter
- the app now tells you if you're adding a task that already exists, and allows you to uncheck it if it's checked
- new default alarm sound
- an option for how time pickers work (AM/PM or 24 hours, the latter is default)
- you can now change the tag order from Menu > More
- the exported CSV now also contains due dates and times

Hi, this is just to let you know i'm still working on the app, although i haven't uploaded a new version for a while. This is partially because i'm busy but also because i'm working on a lot of new features which have to come together nicely. So you should know a new version is, indeed, in the works. Your feedback's been great, you may find some of your suggestions in version 5.

P.S. I'm always looking to fix bugs and crashes. Just so you know, i'm pretty sure the app doesn't like you installing custom ROMs because they'll probably change the default location of the app database. Still not sure what happens in these cases, if the app's been crashing on your phone please consider filling out this short poll.

version 4.2: Significant update again

You can now export the to-do list as CSV, so you don't have to rely on automatic backups, which are sometimes more automatic than you'd want :)
You can now set a limited playtime for your custom alarm song
You can choose to see a Snooze/Dismiss screen instead of a notification in the upper bar (You can snooze 2 times, each snooze means 5 more minutes, the app gradually wakes you by shrinking the snooze button :)
You can now set a custom task padding (the distance between tasks)

Oh, already working on a simple, multiple tags for the same task, system. I hope it will be ready in the next 2 weeks.

version 4.0.0: Ad moved

The ad has been moved to the edit screen, in an unobtrusive location. You can still remove it if you want, but you'd help if you'd leave it on.
The priority bar can now be removed from the edit screen (in options) in case you don't use priority at all.

version 3.7: Monthly tasks

You can now set monthly alarms for your tasks.
A lot of bug fixes, including a better alarm implementation. Alarms for old tasks shouldn't bother you anymore.
Theme settings now apply to most of the app.

version 3.5.3: Photo notes

Photo notes and some other improvements have been brought with this latest version. The photo notes feature is still experimental, but taking pics with the camera and attaching them to tasks as notes should work.
Another cool feature is the ability to email tasks, from the Share submenu (from the task menu), where you can also send SMS.
From now on, when you type in the home screen search widget, you can see task suggestions from Tag-ToDo-List. To enable this just go to your phone's settings, click Search, then Searchable Items and then select whatever stuff you want to see.

Version 3 is here! SMS, custom alarms and more!

Here's a complete list of the changes this new version brings:

You can now share a task by SMS, from the task menu (long-press the task to see it)
You can now set your own alarm sound from the configuration screen
The configuration screen is now organized in tabs and has some cool new options
One of the new options is enabling the display of due times/dates under the task, if it's the case
You can now press the task within the home screen widget to edit it
When task X has a number of subtasks, and all of them are checked, task X won't be automatically checked now.
In addition to trackball-ing left or right to change tags, you can now trackball up or down to select the next or previous task.

You can see below how showing the dates/times under the task looks like (be aware that this consumes just a bit more resources because the app has to check for and retrieve the dates before rendering the tasks):

UPDATE: If you use the home screen widget and it seems like the buttons act weird, try removing the widget and re-adding it. If that doesn't work, remove it again, restart the system and add it, now it should be ok. This is Android's fault, i can't fix it from within the app. I will submit this bug to the Android team though.

You can now swipe to the left or to the right to navigate between tags
You can do the same with the trackball (left, right)
Priority and time buttons have been moved up in the task screen, so now the soft keyboard won't go over them

The database model of the app has been significantly optimized, the widget and the fullscreen app should work better now in conjunction
The collapse and note buttons (if the user wants them to be shown) are now rendered to the right of the task, and without taking up a whole column.

Be careful what you install on your phone

There are clues that some 3rd party mods / ROMs like the one called "Cyanogen" might destroy some parts of the apps' database, including Tag-ToDo-List's, which would leave it completely useless, force-closing all the time. In case you don't have such 'mods' installed but still get force-closes at some point during your usage of Tag-ToDo-List, and you want to help, please see the latest poll on this blog or send a log recording the moment of the crash. Thanks!

There have been reports that the app crashes on G1 phones since version 1.8.1. If there's anyone who has the knowledge to produce a log showing the moment of the crash (G1 or some other phone), it would greatly help me in discovering bugs in the app. Btw, i forgot to say Happy New Year!

version 1.8.0: Which tasks have notes?

Well now you have an answer to that question :) If you turn your phone in landscape mode, you'll have a button on the left of the task for every type of note, if there is one attached. You also have an option to enable this for portrait mode.

Another new feature is the ability to hide checked tasks, a lot of users have been asking for this. You can do this from the 'Sort' window.

Also, the audio note bug has been fixed and should be able to see all SD cards now.

version 1.7.8: A lot of fixes

The app is now compatible with Android 2.0, should work without a problem on that platform.
The app looks much better now on small-screen devices (e.g. HTC Tattoo).
Some rendering issues for the widget have been fixed.
Users now have the possibility to help by allowing the app to upload anonymous usage stats once a month. Don't worry, the option is disabled by default :) You have to explicitly enable it for it to do something. You can enable it in the configuration screen. These stats will help me determine what phones most users have, what features they like and how they use them, so i can design new features and fix existing ones better.

ADC: Introducing 2 New Apps

As part of the Android Developer Challenge (ADC), a contest for great mobile apps built for the Android platform, i'm introducing 2 new apps i made:

Sleep Silencer - Automatically makes your phone silent during the night or a time of your choosing, so your sleep won't be disturbed and your 'phone silencing' rituals every evening will stop :)
Time Counter - A smart counter with time logging - it has export to CSV and clipboard features. It logs not only the time passed from the start of the session but from the last change as well.

These apps are now exclusively available through the judging application, called just like the contest: Android Developer Challenge 2. Everyone can download and score apps through it. You can find out more from this official post, where you can also download the judging app.

version 1.7.5: Speech & Better widget

In October, Android 1.6 (Donut) will be pushed out - when that happens, users will also be able to install the next version of Tag-ToDo-List, which only runs on Donut. Version 1.7.5 brings:

a 'visually challenged' mode: the app can now speak! (more)
a better widget: a lot of people asked for it and here it is:

The widget can cycle automatically through the tasks and tags or you can do that manually. You can also check or add tasks.

Another bunch of bugs have been fixed, so hopefully everyone can use the app now.

UPDATE: There have been reports of the app force-closing on a very recent ROM update for the HTC Hero phone. If there's a savvy user who can contribute with a log it would help a great deal. You can send it here. Thanks!

As you know, Tag-ToDo-List for Android is free and recently open-sourced. But writing code isn't the only way you can contribute. I'd just like to compile all the ways you can help this project as an ordinary user or a developer:

version 1.7.0: Breakthroughs!

You have been asking for them for a long while. And here they are: SUBTASKS!! :D The app now functions pretty much like Google Tasks (which you can see in GMail and Google Calendar) paving the way for a sync feature.
The widget is now updated every time the app is closed. More improvements in this area on the way.
