What I loved about this interview (and the one with Aaron and Jasmine) is that it was clear that they all just genuinely enjoyed each other and the time they had on this show. Everyone grew from the experience and came out the other side truly ready for whatever the “real world” of dancing had in store.

I hope this isn’t the last time we see Amy & Fik-Shun together. Their chemistry was undeniable. I think they both have a lot to offer the world of dance! Thanks to Synergistic Productions, once again, for all your hard work with these interviews.

Congratulations, Amy & Fik-Shun! Your win was well-deserved. Hope we see you as all-stars in Season 11!

In order to ease my pain, let’s watch an interview with the runners up of this year –  Aaron Turner & Jasmine Harper.

Our friends at Synergistic Productions caught up with the members of So You Think You Can Dance Season 10’s Team Tall after the finale to see what their plans are for the future and if they plan to work together again.

I wish I could see them on the SYTYCD  tour!! They don’t come to Oregon anymore. (Nigel Lythgoe, you’ve broken my 10 year old daughter’s heart. I hope you’re happy!!)

While Nigel and Mary often seem to be a pain in each other’s side, the way they talk about each other in these videos it is clear they really have formed a strong bond sitting at the table together all these years. What is also clear is that they love being there and watching these dancers grow season after season. See what they told Synergistic Productions after the finale.

I think Nigel is right – for the most part, the part of the audience who didn’t have their preferred dancers win this season don’t want to say anything too negative about those who did. Just goes to show how great So You Think You Can Dance Season 10 was!

The Emmy Awards, taking place tomorrow (Sunday) night at 8e/5p on CBS will feature a brand new routine choregraphed by all the nominated choreographers: Mandy Jo Moore, Travis Wall, Sonya Tayeh, NappyTabs, Allison Holker and Derek Hough (the last two nominated for Dancing with the Stars). It will feature A LOT of familiar faces, as well as Emmy Host, Neil Patrick Harris. The award, which normally would have been given out last weekend at the Creative Arts Emmys, will be handed out during the regular broadcast!

Cat Deeley is the heart and soul of SYTYCD. From being a (very tall) shoulder for the contestants to lean on after a rough routine to keeping the judges in line, she maintains control of the show from audition process to finale. In this video she talks about what So You Think You Can Dance has meant to her.

Let’s all try to be a bit more Cat Deeley in the future, okay?

First up – choreographer, Christopher Scott!

Chris Scott has been part of the amazing group LXD and has done some really memorable routines on the show, one being this season’s Top 10 Guys performing with sand. Although my OCD kicked in while watching it wondering how the cleaned it all up. Check out this video where Scott discusses that routine, Mary & Nigel’s number and his connection to Fik-Shun.

The Top 4 with Mary Murphy and Nigel Lythgoe

So, this week my recap will be a bit shorter than normal because, well, we’ve seen a lot of this already. The point of this episode, besides the obvious, is to relive a lot of the wonderful dancing we got to see this past season by asking for judges favorites and having the finalists pick some favorites too.

Speaking of those judges. Sitting besides Mary Murphy and Nigel Lythgoe we have three special guests tonight. Paula Abdul, Adam Shankman and SYTYCD Alum and All-Star extraordinaire, Stephen “tWitch” Boss.

Cat Deeley spent much of the night introducing dances and some clip packages like the top moments of the season. We also got some very exciting news…. So You Think You Can Dance has been picked up for Season 11! I’m VERY EXCITED, y’all! VERY EXCITED. And not just because it means I will be back here at Small Screen Scoop next summer to write about it. I’ll be at Small Screen Scoop the whole time…. I write about other shows. But SYTYCD is near and dear to my heart. So I did my own little happy dance tonight.

The show started with a new routine from Season Two’s Ivan. It was a Broadway number that featured all of our Top 20. I love when they all come back again. And this routine did a fantastic job at highlighting just how talented all of these dancers are, and not just the Top 4.

Here are the featured numbers tonight (without commentary, since I’ve done it before)….

One of the best moments of the season is announced at this point – and that is the first group number. Putting on the Ritz. Of course. Because it is amazing. Always happy to watch that again!

The story of Nigel & Mary’s relationship is explained in a ridiculous, but funny, video package. And then they dance together and it’s adorable and awkward and sweet. And that’s just how I feel about Mary’s pink wig. But seriously – I think while they sit behind thattable, we forget that Mary and Nigel are both very accomplished dancers. It was nice to see some of that. And then Adam came on stage too, because he can’t stand to be upstage, that adorable little man.

Audience favorite: Amy & All-Star Travis

Contemporary – Travis Wall

I was really pleased with all the chosen dances. They were some of my favorites of the year. If Travis Wall doesn’t win an Emmy for this season, (and for last season) it will be so sad!!

The All-Stars performed a routine with our Top 10 that was sort of a Beach Blanket Bingo type routine. It was a lot of fun! I missed who choreographed it. Was it Ben Vereen? Because that’s who they showed in the audience. It was delightful, whoever did choreograph it!

And then came time for the winners to be announced and they are….. TEAM SMALL.

Fik-Shun & Amy. 

So sweet that they made it to the end together!! I think I would have been happy no matter who won this year. All four were just so deserving! They were fun to watch take this journey and I can’t wait to see what they have coming for us next. Like maybe being an All-Star for SYTYCD season 11!

Hope you all enjoyed watching the finale and the rest of So You Think You Can Dance Season 10 as much as I did! I can’t wait to do it all again next summer! However, the real world will be messing with the programming schedule, so click inside for the details!

Tomorrow night at 9pm Eastern/6pm Pacific President Obama will be addressing the nation about what is happening in Syria. The plan for the So You Think You Can Dance Season 10 Finale show is to air normally starting at 8pm Eastern. At 9, when it is time for the President to speak, they will stop the show, let Obama do his thing, and then come back and do the second hour in its entirety. This means that those of you who have your DVRs set to record from 8p-10p will miss the end of the show. I suggest having it go an extra hour. Obama is only scheduled to speak for 15 minutes, but better safe than sorry.

This should only impact those who live in Eastern/Central time, since Obama’s speech will air before the show in Mountain/Pacific. But I would set your DVRs to go long too, Westerners. Just in case. And don’t count on your cable/satellite provider to acknowledge this in the guide and change it for you. 24 hours notice probably won’t be enough for them.

Side note – with all the hoopla of the finale, it should be incredibly awkward tonally when we come back from Obama’s speech, huh? It will be interesting to see how that shakes out! The tragedies in Syria, no matter where you land on the political spectrum, is rough. Coming back to the confetti canons of SYTYCD after hearing what our President has to say should be… odd.

Amy may be a technically near perfect dancer with almost every genre given to her, but that isn’t even what has made her stand out during So You Think You Can Dance Season 10. It has been her ability to pour emotion – both happy and sad – into every routine given to her. She makes dance about more than the choreography, and that’s a special thing to achieve.

I have really grown to love Amy and I can’t wait to see what she will do when this SYTYCD journey is over!
