This week’s Golden Earthworm’s CSA box included a very large and beautiful green cabbage. So what to do with this healthy leafy green now that it’s in season? Stuffed cabbage! For the stuffing, I decided to go in a fresh vegetarian direction and used lentils and Israeli couscous (trusty pantry staples they are). They work [...]

I love polenta. It is one of the quicker cooking whole grains (done in under 20 minutes), and it is extremely versatile. It can be cooked into a layered casserole, made smooth and creamy, or it can be baked and cut into squares, which is what I did tonight.
I made this dish with kale, [...]

Homemade cheese might sound like a ridiculously scary undertaking, but it’s actually so easy that not only did I make it, but I made it while making a video about making it. I’ve been using this super-simple recipe from Madhur Jaffrey’s ‘World Vegetarian’ for a few years now, and it never fails.
Golden Earthworm farm harvested hundreds of pounds summer squash last week, and we scored ten in our CSA box Tuesday night. Summer squash is in peak season all around the US right now, so there’s a good chance you’ve been seeing it in your local farmer’s markets and CSA boxes. We got a serious lesson [...]

Tonight was the 13th of 26 weeks of our wonderful CSA from Golden Earthworm Organic Farm. Apparently, it’s zucchini-time at the farm ’cause tonight’s share included (count ‘em) 10 pieces of summer squash (8 green and 2 yellow); also in tonight’s box: garlic, tomatoes (beefsteak and cherry), green peppers, eggplant, basil and arugula.
Last week we were fully sustainable, meaning that everything we ate for 7 days straight was made from scratch in our kitchen. No ordering in dinner, no buying breakfast on the way to the subway, and no grabbing a mid-afternoon snack at work…and we think that if everyone knew how easy it actually is to [...]

Making bread and pizza at home is all about planning. Once you’ve got the timing right, it requires very little active work. I hadn’t made bread at home in over a month since we had been out of town, and well ya know, summer… but when I saw artisanal multigrain loaves in the store selling [...]
