This weekend, right between two episodes of Summer Fondue radioshow, a big bonus for podcast subscribers has arrived. This is my 5 hours (sic!) mixtape recorded live on a private party in Moscow on February 27th 2010. Featuring mainly soulful house it also contains some ‘dancing parts for adults’. I’m putting it as is and hope you’ll enjoy realizing it’s Live, led by party and people atmosphere. I’d also like to thank the client for inviting me and letting to share this with the world.

After two studio albums, they’ve launched the new imprint Reel People Music and will release the third EP on March 15th. That will be “The Tea” by US gospel diet, singer/songwriter Choklate. Saturated soulful vocals here join the production from Reel People themselves with a discofied one, The Layabouts duo for deeper touch and French producer Manoo with surprisingly soulful jam.

Beauville – Living Easy

US label Ospina Digital (obviously belongs to Davidson Ospina) is dropping its first 2010 release on March 9th: “Living Easy” featuring vocals of Jenny Halberg is a sexy soulful affair made by Beauville. That’s another stage name of dj and producer Damien J. Carter, who’s known for many different genres productions, and releases on Milk & Sugar in early ’00s. Soulful mafia should check Damien’s original mix and Rob Salmon Remix here, and there’s a couple of tougher versions.

Long time no news from him, but finally something: his brand new label Love Network was launched. Debuting with “U R Everything” on February 8th, Chuck collaborates with another OM diva, DJ, producer and singer Colette. Main Mix resembles Chuck’s signature sounds, Love Network Rework goes to a guitar driven ‘rocky’ stylah, and also there Santiago & Bushido version of a harder techy side. Initially on Dennis’ Objektivity, it later was signed to Defected and released on February 12th (oh yeah how could Simon miss this bomd?). Simple but powerful, intriguing and strictly underground, this is a biggest since the times of DF’s Fish Go Deep’s The Cure & The Cause remix.

Barry White’s one and only “Love’s Theme” is re-worked by Italian mafia, Vincent Valler and Alfred Azzetto, with shiny disco feel, with “strings and horns by Vincent Valler Orchestra”. Sounds familiar? No, DJ Meme has nothing to do about this track except suggesting doing a vocal version. So we have Savio on the vox of some versions. What label is the right one for this? Purple Music of course! Purple guys on the remixes as well: Walterino & David Rizzo, Alfred Azzetto, DJ Fopp, Luis Radio & Raffa – all mixes are great keeping the original vibe! Filin Brake is another house producer from Germany. Started to dj in 1995 and launched his own label Hausbrigade in 2002, he also plays it deep and funky. Many of his releases and remixes saw the light on Reelgroove. But on February 18th, his own Hausbrigade will drop Filin Brake Remixes for veteran gospel vocalist Jnr Robinson’s “Tell You Who“. A number of tracks in the package includes Classic Mix and Instrumental, Dub and Reprise, and are pleasantly soulful and polished.

By the way speaking of Micky More, do not miss his remix for New Jersey soul songstress Angela Johnson, “Better“. As you might already spotted it in 86th Summer Fondue, it’s a nicely done 123 bpm house version, with live instruments again and worthy soulful vocals. It was out in December 2009 exclusively in iTunes Store. Another MM’s news is that Micky’s doing a remix for Groove Junkies’ “Far Away” that will be out soon on MoreHouse. Looks like they’re swapping remixes.

Micky More – A Touch Of Jazz

Italian producer Micky More is the name that produce not very often, but do it a very superb way. Last year he launched his own label Street of Soul and dropped “Zero Gravity” as a debut back in July 2008. But finally he will be back with another jazzy masterly instrumented track entitled “A Touch Of Jazz“. Planned to be released on March 5th, the package includes Classic Mix, Organ Dub and Piano Deluxe from Micky himself as well as mixes from Groove Junkies, Scott Wozniak, Andy & Dave and Alex Dimitri. As usual, we know it’s all about original mixes.

Every country has its own house heroes, and former USSR republics are no exception. Estonian Dave Storm runs house label Ceremony Records that turned to the compatriot seeking for new talents. Out on January 27th, a new compilations entitled Clazz сompiled by Ricky Inch, features eight great house instrumentals with jazz influences, including 3 tracks from Russian young producers Elastic Sound, D’Flower and MHB Crew. Considering me being patriotic now, it’s good having small local artists exposed to the larger house scene. But the tracks are good!

Mustafa – Can’t Give Up

Qness – Uzongilinda

It’s a long time we haven’t heard from Israeli Avi Elman (aka UPZ) and his label soWHAT. The new release comes on January 14th: South Africa’s Qness with vocals of Malehloka sung in Zulu language with a chilled beautiful soulful affair named “Uzongilinda” which means “You will wait for me” in Zulu. Story tells that it was first heard by Avi Elman on Qness’s MySpace and immediately picked up for his label. The package includes 15 (omg) tracks with remixes from UPZ himself (very nice soulful), Abicah Soul (also unexpectedly soulful), and a bunch of deeper ones: from Rancido (Dutch), Euan Mitchell (British), and Sbonza, Infinite Boys, Mindlo (all three from SA as well).

Roberto De Carlo – Electric Soul Power

Our Swiss fella Roberto De Carlo reveals his new sound in the almost-anniversary 80th release of Purple Music on January 15th with “Electric Soul Power” featuring vocals of long-collaborated Colin Corvez. We’ve heard him on Roberto’s “You Are the One for Me” in summer 2009 as the first track in De Carlo’s new authentic sound direction of the 80’s disco funk, and back in 2004 on the same Purple in “Ready?!” by One Touch (that’s actually Roberto De Carlo together with Mirco Esposito). The title says it all: it has soul and a bit of electrique. Simon Grey as co-producer and Dario D’Aattis on the remix. Recognize.

Jay-J – Love Alive Remixes

One of the last releases of 2009, on December 29th 2009 Shifted Music dropped the 2nd part of Jay-J feat. Charlene Moore’s “Love Alive” (from Jay-J’s album of the same name) remixes. Besides Christian Alvarez and Genelec mixes, this EP is noticeable for the rework from Denmark’s Soulmagic: their Classic Mix utilizes piano, guitar and live bass being all classic elements, though sounds a bit like recent remix for Shane D’s “Silence“.

Fuminori Kagajo – Jazz Spectrum EP

San Francisco-based indie Fatsouls Records was launched in 2007 with the aim to release dance music with emphasis on Afrobeat, Dub, Deep House, minimal tech and other Afro rhythms. Now they grew to the 6th release, not so afro though. Filled with 3 organic jazzy and soulful tunes (Klondike, Explorations and Jazzabo), “Jazz Spectrum EP” comes from Sapporo based japanese producer and DJ Fuminori Kagajo. Teamed up with world-class musicians and bringing in live saxophone, trumpet, bass and keyboard, these tracks are really another light in this dark electrified times…

Fuminori Kagajo is a DJ and Producer based in Japan. Since 1996, he’s has been DJing in clubs and fashion shows, supporting the likes of Frankie Knuckles, Ian Pooley, Fabio & Grooverider and many more in his home town of Sapporo as well as in the UK. Fumi is also in charge of the music of his elder brother’s stage group called “Scherzo” which has toured Japan since 2005. Fumi started Jazz/Crossover unit “Rawtech 45 Adaptors” with Kats ‘ushi Okada in 2007. Their work licensed to the “Doin’ James” compilation released on the popular G.A.M.M label. Fumi has forthcoming solo singles on Trippin’ Records UK (known for their releases by Peven Everett, Glenn Underground and more) and Fatsouls Records US (known for their releases by DJ Said, Jerome Sydenham). In the forthcoming single on King Street Sounds NY, Fuminori Kagajo teams his 5 piece ensemble up with rising star vocalist Adeola Ranson and co-writer/producer Si Finnegan from Tone Control for a Japan – UK collaboration, entitled “Piece of Heaven”.

First off, we have veteran Danny Foster who was brave enough to cover “To Be Real“, originally by Cheryl Lynn in 1978. New Japanese label M2Vibe was launched in Autumn 2009. Their debut release is at the same time the first track of the new duo from Tokyo, Miss Envy and Yoshinobu Mizutani aka Soul Addict, who started in 2009 and claim to dedicate the full-time career to Soulful House. On the debut “Love The Hurt Away” released on December 21st, they have no other than Barbara Tucker on the massive vocals! What a nice start with a refreshing uplifting track.

Is Soulful House Dying?

US based house DJ Ricardo Torres recently posted a wonderful insightful article entitled “Is Soulful House Dying?“. With an accurate observations on soulful house scene and industry, this post caused a long discussion in comments (and on Facebook as well) where people from all over the world share the situations. I’d like to express my full consent on Ricardo’s vision and to invite every one and all to read that post. A bit of teasing quote:

The recent worldwide recession and financial crisis has left the music and clubbing business almost dead. [...] we have less and less house nights which in turns means that (soulful) house DJs have less gigs (where they really make their money) so they start making other type of music (like freakin’ hard electro) so they can get gigs and so on, and so on. It’s like a domino effect. Is that how a scene dies? Or if you look at it in another way, is that how a scene is re-born?..
