Last Friday I received my visum for Myanmar by post. Everything went smoothly - perfect. The visa itself consits out of a entry and stamp in my passport and three Din-A4-pages with entry- and exit-data on it.

At the moment I am worried about the situation in Thailand and Bangkok. As I am arriving in BKK on Saturday around 1 PM I planned going directly to BKK in the afternoon. My flight to Myanmar is leaving next morning Sunday at 8 AM. Todays news are telling me, that the situation has de-escalated - I am going to get in contact with other travellers to check the situation.

The next days I am packing my backpack and things.

I have to change some EUR into US-$, as there are no ATMs in Myanmar to get cash. There is also no possibility to get money with my visa-card or cash-card at a bank-office as far as I read.

I am very excited now - there are still three days left. On Friday I am leaving.

I had to send

• my passport,
• the Visa-documents,
• three passport-pictures,
• an envelope with my adress and german stamps

to the embassy in Berlin. Beyond this, I had to

• transfer the amount of 25 EUR for the Visa to an account in Germany.

The interesting part here is the envelope with the “stamps” on it - to send the documents back to me.

From a european perspective, there are special international post-cupons available at every post-office for Europe as those are the unique currency in direction of stamps.

The thin is, that Germany is not accepting those international post-cupons.

As I am not having the possibility to buy german stamps at the post-office in Austria, I had to find a person in Berlin, who helps me in bringing there some stamps for finishing the approval-process. I started a call in twitter and facebook and was lucky to get in connection with a formal college from University, who supported me in going to the embassy with a collection of german stamps. Thanks for the support to my twitter-followers!

Although the whole Visa-process went wonderful, easy and smooth, I am wondering, that in times of a united Europe there is still a lack in a unique stamp-solution.

So, finally this worked wonderful and thanks Judith for your help.

Thanks also to the nice support from the Myanmar embassy in Berlin. It worked wonderful.

Now I am looking forward for getting the passport with the Visa within the next days.

I have just fixed the next journey and I am looking very much forward in visiting Myanmar for three weeks in April and May 2009. I booked a flight for about 540 EUR from Vienna to Bangkok via Dubai at www.checkfelix.com. Good price.

After India, Nepal, Vietnam, Thaliand, Cambodia it will be my 6th destination in Asia.

The next days I am checking my vaccinations and possibilities for a fast visa. I have already bought a Lonely Planet and looking forward for inputs, tipps and many, many inputs in advance.

Good. Looking forward to it. The countdown has started - I am leaving in 25 days from now on.
