Scarves are great for all types of weather – whether it warm and you want to be trendy or when its cold and you’re trying to stay warm. Here are a four of the many ways you can tie and wear a scarf.

The key is to pick and tie the scarf based on the weather. Tie a thin scarf more relaxed and loose when it’s a trendy look you’re going for. Thick scarves tied tighter and closer to your neck are great for cool/cold weather.

Coordination is what sells your style, not matching. There are three things to remember when it comes to coordination:

(1) Fit – casual and loose fitting shirts coordinate with casual and loose fitting pants/shorts. Same goes for more fitted styles. Fit also applies to the shoes you wear.

(2) Fabric – much like fit, certain fabrics coordinate better with each than others. Silk and polyester do not not mesh! Cotton tends to work well with most fabrics and almost every outfit will incorporate some element of cotton.

(3) Color – it’s easy and tempting to try and match colors together perfectly but it shows true style when you coordinate shades of a color or blend two or three colors together that compliment each other.

This tag is often left on the coats for two reasons (1) the wearer didn’t know that it should be removed or (2) having the label on the sleeve was a way to show people what brand you were wearing.

Keep in mind that your clothing (regardless of the brand) and the way it is worn (fit) should sell your style – not the label on the sleeve.

Most pieces of clothing are designed to be coordinated with other items that fit well with that particular style or concept. Sometimes we have a tendency to wear too may many styles at the same time.

Craig Stokes points out a couple of things we should avoid and how not to mismatch styles. One suggestion Craig makes is to wear a watch that reflects the style of your outfit (i.e. casual watch/band for casual outfits). He also points out that your shoes and outwear (i.e. coat, jacket, etc) should also reflect one consistent style.

With men’s fashion and styles changing it is no wonder that people ask whether they should buy (and wear) pants with or without a cuff. Craig gives his words of wisdom in this episode of Style Minute.

His answer: if your pants are pleated (the little folds of fabric in the upper thigh area of the pants) then you should go with cuffs. However, flat front pants will look much better without a cuff.

It’s as simple as that!

In this episode of Style Minute, Craig Stokes shows you the right way to pull of the “jeans w/ dress shoes” look. Most after hours events call for a more upscale attire with hard bottom shoes. Some events may let you wear jeans as long as you wear the appropriate shoes.

True dress shoes have a leather bottom, tend to be on the shiny side, and are often too dressy to wear with jeans. A better alternative is to wearing shoes that have a matte (dry) appearance and don’t have a cap or split toe. Instead your shoes should be rather plain and have a softer texture/feel/look (i.e. loafer). Refrain from wearing round-toe dress shoes with jeans (rounded toes are reserved for dress shoes while a slightly squared toe is more casual).
