If you’re not familiar with the lovely “I love you, Man” movie you may not recognize this piece of charming music. But let me tell you something beyond the soundtrack featuring of one of Ray Lamontagne’s songs: Ray wasn’t always a songwriter/singer! Oh, no! He worked in a shoe factory, ladies! He worked in a shoe factory! Ain’t that something? And he quit that job to follow a musical career after he heard a song by Stephen Stills (Treetop Flyer – you can listen this song here).

After his musical epiphany, Ray Lamontagne kept on working outside his music (as a carpenter this time) but recognition didn’t fail to embrace him. He was often featured in television series (such as ER, Law & Order, House M.D.) and movies (27 Dresses, I Love you, Man). He has released three albums so far and his particular and appealing voice will definitely carry him further. Though he’s a folk performer and his fame won’t reach the Gaga stardomness, his warm songs and noble causes will always get close to people, closer than a Little Monsters label ever will! I’m an amateur fashion (& more) critic in my own way and I speak with words of worrying naturalness and normality about the catwalk ways of many design gods, without thinking about the freebies and the first row invites. Having a strong inner belief that all things art, fashion and style must spring from the same endless unspeakable beauty reservoir, I cannot bring myself to love the new fetish black drowning the fashion boat lately. Spotlighting what we were brought up with to be hidden and intimate, shouting the unspeakable in our very face isn’t enough to make a designated fashion good or a notable designer better, more appealing, more coveted and wearable. Daring, yes, mais how much is enough?

In our ever growing alarming need to shock more and further haven’t we spawned Lady Gaga? Don’t we love it when she calls us Little Monsters (she even ink-immortalized that appalling slogan on her Pantlessness skin just to make us remember where we’re standing on a scale from black to heaven)? Don’t we make pretty with thorns and ripped materials? The new zombie fashion calls for more. More body exposure, more trips, more toilet art, more hedgehog morphs transgressing into aesthetics.

I wish I could give these personal musings an historic time line and a graphic art situation of our current state of fetish art. Maybe some of you can help me pin down the facts and draw the new fashion war map. Because we’re at war, daaahlings! We’re the new tech geeks, sadly just marionettes in a staged evolution. We’re the fresh blood the zombie fashion was starving for! You thought bloggers were welcomed in fashion for nothing? No-no-no! It’s a mean, dark world out there on the catwalks of the world! And they will eat your very soul if you dare open wide your heart and mind to them! All that with just a handful of freebies and invites. Welcome to my Frizz fort! McDonalds’ McFancy is an artsy installation (read the same McDonalds fast food restaurant only with design furniture and complicated architecture) offering the same fries and burgers menu only with a couture label on. And make no mistake about it, the Burberry burgers and the Gucci fries taste just like ordinary burger and fries, it’s all in the calories, not the label.

Undoubtedly this pretty concept will seduce the fashion world beyond its trademark anorexia! Beyond any reasonable doubt, this is the gathering place for fashion people who’ll talk about Marc Jacobs’ latest collection while sipping on a cup of LVCola and tasting a crunchy Versace Apple Pie.
