I had a very strange experience. My Dad had passed away about 1 month earlier when this happened. My Mom and I had decided to go and eat at the Buffet in the Stratosphere. After dinner my Mom left me to use the Ladies Room and I decided to try a keno machine at the end of a group of machines. I was sitting there playing when I looked around to see if my Mom was back. I saw a monk in old monk clothes with dirty sandles and feet, walking passed me. He never looked at me but walked with his head bowed down like in prayer. I saw he had a rope belt around his waist. He had grey hair and was very thin. I thought it was odd to have a monk walking in the casino. He went behind me, and as I turned to see him go passed, he wasn't there. I was shocked. I told my Mom about him and she said lets go look for him. We hurried around the area but never saw him. There was no way he could have slipped in to a room or elevator were this happened . My cousin Jim and I saw a very large metalic saucer shaped object flying from northwest to southeast at about the same elevation normal passenger aircraft fly. My friend didn't want to wait so she went into a dark stall. After a few seconds I heard her scream. She ran out and told me she seen a little girl looking down. I thought she was just messing with me but she looked really freaked out and was sweating. She was scared to go into that bathroom she would always want to go to a different one. But, a few weeks later she finnaly went into that one again. She was less scared because the lights were on, so she went in and saw the little girl again and when she came out her arm was bleeding. She was screaming crying and she never went into that bathroom again...

There is a ghost of a woman that haunts the women's restroom near the hotel check-in lobby. I personally experienced a sighting of her in April of 2011, but never knew that this place was even haunted. I saw her (eerily enough) as a partial-bodied apparition. As I walked into the bathroom and rounded the corner, I saw out of my peripheral vision what I thought was a woman walking towards the wall, with her back turned towards me. I could make out a white Victorian style dress that had puffy, quarter length sleeves with white lace eyelets. At the time I actually saw her, I didn't really think anything of it, just assuming it was someone else in the bathroom. It wasn't until after a minute or so that I realized this 'person' wasn't making any noise (washing hands, flushing the toilet, etc.) and the fact that I recalled that she was wearing a Victorian style dress!! Almost like fog, on a clear night, and it follows us till we were home and inside, and was gone once we looked back. We have both had moments when we could not move and felt like a large weight was holding or pinning us down. It was always very early in the morning, like 2 am when this would happen, but now it has been happening whenever. There have been times Jenny and I have woke up in different rooms, outside, or in the garage, with no idea how. But before we did, i wanted to do an e.v.p (electronic voice phenomenon) so my cousin got her phone out and started recording us.

after i was done asking the questions we played back the recording and we heard noises and we were like no way. so i decided to get out the ouija board and a shot glass and tried it with an e.v.p too

so the best part was.. the glass moved and we were talking to a little boy and i was so happy. but when i was listenning to the little boy on the e.v.p i was crying my eyes out.

The ruins of St. Thomas, which are visible after the water level in Lake Mead lowered, are protected by the National Park Service as a historic site. The cemetery was relocated to Overton, Nevada where there is a St. Thomas interpretive center with a staff archaeologist doing on-going research into the history and settlement of the Muddy River.

Gold was first discovered in 1872, followed by exploitation of the deposits using hydraulic mining techniques. Two ditches, the Osceola West Ditch and the Osceola East Ditch were built to convey water from the mountains for use in mining. Water production was less than hoped and hydraulic mining ceased in 1900, when the population had declined from 1500 at its peak to 100. The town was located at the former interchange point between the Southern Pacific Railroad and the Nevada Northern Railway, and came into being when construction of the Nevada Northern began in 1905. The Nevada Northern was constructed primarily to serve the copper mines and smelter near Ely, Nevada. In 1910, Cobre reached its peak population with a total of 60 residents. Over the next few decades Cobre's population would slowly declined due to travelers' preference to the automobile over the train. This led to the Southern Pacific Railroad abandoning the Cobre station in November 1948. A post office was established at Cobre in 1906, and it was discontinued in 1956.

Gold Point, is a well preserved ghost town in Esmeralda County. In 1927, a miner by the name of J.W. Dunfee went down the mine and made an even better discovery – gold. Within a few years, more gold than silver was being mined and the town’s name was changed to Gold Point. It was after this discovery that Gold Point enjoyed its longest period of success, at a time that the rest of America was suffering from depression. However, when World War II began, the government ordered all gold mines to shut down as nonessential to the war effort. Beowawe is a ghost town in Eureka County, situated on State Route 306 immediately south of Interstate 80. Beowawe was founded in 1868 with the arrival of the railroad. Gravelly Ford, a noted site on the California Trail, is a few miles east of Beowawe on Pioneer Pass Road. The famous "Maiden's Grave" marker overlooks the ford. A tall cross in the Beowawe cemetery commemorates the burial of Lucinda Duncan, a grandmother who died on the trail in 1863. Workers building the Central Pacific Railroad first noted the grave along the Humboldt River, and in 1906 it was moved to the hillside cemetery when the Union Pacific realigned its tracks. Gold Center was a mining town in Nye County, located in the Bullfrog Mining District south of Tonapah, Gold Center was established in December 1904 with a United States Post Office being authorized on January 21, 1905. Blair, is a mining ghost town in Esmeralda County. Today a historical marker commemorates Blair along State Route 265 just north of Silver Peak. At one time Blair was a thriving, albeit short-lived, mining boom town. As mining reached a fever pitch in Nevada during the Tonopah boom, the effects spidered out in all directions to revive many a dormant mining town. Nearby, in Silver Peak, land speculators were driving land prices so artificially high that the 100-stamp mill planned for Silver Peak was relocated and built a mile and a half west, where it became the hub of Blair. It was the Pittsburg-Silver Peak Gold Mining Company that was responsible for the large mill that went up in 1907; at the time it was Nevada's largest such facility. Coaldale is a ghost town in Esmeralda County. Coaldale had a store, cafe, motel, and service station as late as 1993, but is now abandoned. The service station was closed down because the EPA did testing and found that its underground fuel tanks were leaking in 1993. Shortly after the restaurant and motel closed down since the service station was the main reason for passersby to stop in. Sometime between 2006 and 2008 a fire destroyed the restaurant.

Columbus was a borax mining boom town in Esmeralda County. Its remnants are located on the edge of the Columbus Salt Marsh. Settlement came to the Columbus Salt Marsh in 1865 with the raising of a quartz mill. Columbus was the ideal location for a mill, as it was the only stop for several miles with sufficient amounts of water for the operation of a mill. It wasn't until 1871 that borax was discovered near the town's site, and as a result Columbus increased substantially in its importance. Shortly after the discovery of borax by William Troop four borax companies were actively working the deposits on the marsh. Columbus' zenith occurred around 1875 when there was around 1,000 people in the town. By that same year many businesses flourished in Columbus as well as a post office and local newspaper... It also housed two hotels, three general stores, a Wells-Fargo office, a church and more than a dozen saloons. Marietta, was a town in Mineral County. It is now a ghost town. Marietta was formally established as a town in 1877, and soon contained several hundred people. Exact figures are hard to verify, because many of the workers involved in the scraping process, and at the processing plant on Teels Marsh were Chinese, whose population figures were not accurately kept. The town soon boasted 13 saloons, a post office, several stores, and many stone and adobe structures. Marietta was a rowdy camp, despite its size, and seemed to garner more than its fair share of criminal activity. The stage service working to and from Marietta was reportedly robbed 30 times in 1880, within one week of that year alone it was robbed 4 times. Paul Laxalt State Office Building (Old Federal Building)-Named for former Nevada Governor and U.S. Senator Paul Laxalt, this four-story, red brick structure at 401 N. Carson St. was erected in 1890-91. The distinctive Victorian building originally housed the post office, federal courts, U.S. Weather Bureau, and other federal agencies. Prominent 19th century government architect, Mifflin E. Bell, was responsible for its design. As with many of his structures, Bell incorporated a clock tower into the building.
The last court case was heard in the building in 1965, after which the federal court was moved to Reno. The post office moved to new quarters in Carson City in 1970. The Nevada State Library moved into the building and remained there until the early 1990s, when it was extensively restored and became the offices of the Nevada Commission on Tourism and Nevada Magazine. The population remained fairly constant during the remainder of the century. Mining activity came to the area in 1914 when gold was discovered on one of the ranches. It never amounted to much. When mining activity was stopped, Curran wasn`t affected in any way. Things remained pretty much the same until the late 1930s when magnesite deposits were discovered. Although the major deposits were located in White Pine County, Nye County contained small but highly productive claims. This activity came to an end in 1942. The town was actually discovered in 1862 by a horse belonging to a W. H. Talbott. The horse, by accident, kicked up a piece of quartz containing gold and silver. Talbott sent the piece to Virginia City for assay. He staked out a claim and, when word got out, others followed, and a silver rush was on. One year later, 10,000 people occupied the town. A lumber mill had been built and four hundred homes had been constructed. There were schools, churches, hotels, stores and, of course, the required number of saloons and pleasure houses. Many of the structures were of adobe and brick, which minimized the damage from fires. Floods, however, were the culprit, especially those of 1868 and 1874 which ravaged the town. By 1880, the mines began to show signs of exhaustion and its total of $50 million in ore production was history. Once so difficult to reach, Austin is now immediately accessible on highway 50. Grantsville never made it to the top. In fact, the history of the town suggests a promotion scheme was more primary than was the search for gold bearing ore. Although a vein of gold was discovered by a P. A. Haven, it was he who promoted its potential far beyond that which it produced. He sold real estate to incoming prospectors as well as his claim. Shortly after he left town, his claim was soon worked out and the town began to fail before it even got started. In 1887, a large mining firm acquired the property and developed it to the point where it really became a viable town. The story of Golden Arrow has a most unusual beginning. Discoveries in 1905 by Claudet and Marl Page, both of whom were deaf-mutes, resulted in a small rush to the area. The two men sold their claims for $45,000 in January 1906 and the Golden Arrow Mining Company was formed. Soon there were four mining companies along with many individual claim miners in the district. A new two-story hotel was built and filled to capacity and the population reached 200. By 1907 the town had a number of frame buildings, a mercantile store, a restaurant, and at least six saloons. Unfortunately for Golden Arrow, the town was more of a real estate promotion than a profitable mining camp. The ore did not last long enough for a large town to form. Golden Arrow was practically empty by 1909. A short revival in 1911 brought forty-five people back to the district but by September 1912 only eight people remained. Pine Grove is one of the lesser-known gold mining camps but lasted longer than most. Gold was first discovered here in 1866 and within a year or so the town had grown to 300 people. Its zenith was in the 1880s when three mills were shipping $10,000 in gold bullion each week and the town had grown to over 1000 people. One building, thought to be a cookhouse, had newspaper on the walls to help keep out the cold winter blasts. The other towns in Gold Canyon, Silver City (population 1,200 in 1861) and Gold Hill (population 8,000in 1873) were also significant population centers. Major mining continued on the Comstock until the late 1930s.

Mexicans discovered silver ore here in 1864. Nothing happened until 1879 when a mixed group of foreign born prospectors, mostly Germans and Slavonians, moved in and built a boomtown. The big producer was a mine called the Northern Belle that produced $15 million in silver. But there was no water. Water was transported from a spring nine miles away and cost a dollar a gallon. Whiskey was less expensive. Even the stampmill operated without water creating an atmosphere of dust, which settled in the lungs of the miners, causing many to die of "miners consumption."

Mexican prospectors first settled the town in 1864 who named the mine and the town after a Catholic Mass day. Beginning in 1880 the area began to prosper and in 1882 a good water supply and a spur of the Carson & Colorado railroad came to the camp. The town quickly grew into a modest community of saloons, stores, two hotels, restaurants, a brewery, a bookstore and daily stage to Winnemucca. A large mill was built at nearby Queen City, which treated the ores of this district. A post office opened in 1878. Population peaked at 150. Peak years were during the 1880s, with more than $1 million produced. The area declined and the post office closed in 1895. Subsequent mining revivals too place 1907-1915 and 1931-1935, but the town was never revived.

Haunts-
Some of the old patrons who died or visited the bar are there today, the most famous is a cowboy form the 1800s/early 1900s who wers a hat and appears often.

History-
The Pioneer Saloon, built in 1913, is one of the oldest bars in the state of Nevada. Inside this historic old saloon you`ll find bullet holes still in the walls, original poker tables, an 1860s cherrywood bar & when it gets chilly an old potbelly stove heats the place.
On a July afternoon in 1915 at the then-bustling Pioneer Saloon in Goodsprings, Paul Coski was drinking heavily as he played poker with fellow miners.

Caught cheating, a drunken Coski scooped up the $10 worth of chips in the pot and told proprietor Joe Armstrong to cash him out. When he refused, Coski attacked Armstrong, who pulled a pistol and shot Coski twice.

One of the bullets went through Coski and, 90 years later, remains lodged in the barroom`s wall.

I stood on the 16th floor of this hotel with my girlfriend for New Years Eve 2007. Very early morning on the 31st I was sleeping with my back away from the wall and I woke up because I felt as if I was punched in shoulder. I woke up and my gf asked what was wrong, and I told her, she thought maybe I was dreaming. Less than 10 minutes later it sounded as if someone had walked on a plastic bag I had on the floor in the corner of the room, this time not only did I hear it but my gf did as well. We had slept with the bathroom light on (as we usually do when we`re at hotels so we know where we`re going in the middle of the night) but I didn`t see anyone in the room, and the bag couldn`t have moved from air current because the air was off and the small box I had in the bag was sort of heavy and laying flat. I learned the following day, through my own research, the only possible thing that could have caused a haunting was a murder that occurred back in 1998. Someone was attacked and died...
