New Recruits

The Frankston YCW Football Club is pleased to announce the signing of two new players in Byron Barry & Lew Roberts for Season 2010.

Lew Roberts

Lew was brought up near Wagga Wagga NSW. Lew played local footy, starting his senior football career as a 16 year old. Lew represented NSW as part of the RAMS side in 1999 and 2000 finishing Runners Up Best and Fairest in 2000. At 17 Lew moved to Adelaide and played for Port Magpies and worked as a Football Development Officer. Following the illness of his grandmother Lew moved back closer to home playing footy in Canberra for the Queanbeyan Tigers where he won the League Rookie of the Year in his first year and also was an AFL Canberra Rep. He was also named in the team of the year in 2003 and 2004. A move to Melbourne 3 years later saw Lew playing at Noble Park Footy Club where he won the Recruit of the Year. Most recently, Lew has joined YCW after 3 years at the Edithvale Aspendale FC where he played in the last 2 grand finals and won their club’s Best and Fairest in 2008. We extend a very warm welcome to Lew, his partner Kelly Holt and their daughter Maggie.

Byron Barry

Bryon has joined YCW as an assistant coach after spending the last 5 years at the Frankston Dolphins where he managed to clock up 74 senior games. Byron played the majority of his junior footy with YC juniors before crossing to Seaford in the under 16’s then played Under 18 footy with Karingal before joining the Dolphins. We wish Byron and girlfriend Rachel Jackson a long and happy association with the Frankston YCW Football Club.

This Sunday brings and end to season 2009 in what has been a great year for the club

Our Under 18 meet Mornington in the Under 18 Grand Final for the fourth time this year hoping to make it a clean sweep and go thru the season undefeated a feat only accomplished by the 1976 under 17 side. As the sides in the last 2 games have only been separated by a total of 3 points another down to the wire , drag em out, last man standing affair can be expected due to the evenness of the sides. For the Coaches views and the Teams..hit..bring home the bacon !!

Never been done before and probably a long, long time before we see it again..4 Club teams in Finals on the same Day on the same Oval…Not bad at all, and all we need to put the Icing on the cake, is 4 big wins…a big,big call but the 4 YCW teams are all up to the task.

First to hit the ground running AT 8AM will be Kenters Kolts, Minor Premiers and now going for the big one against Mornington Red after moving in to the Grand final with a big win over Langwarrin.. Last time they met we won 18.14.122 to 4.0.24 but don’t let that lull U in to false sense of security ..finals are a different kettle of fish altogether..

…that also goes for Mather Marvels who once again go in to a 2nd Semi against Mornington having come out of the H&As Minor Premiers and winning their two games against Mornington this year 11.77.77 to 3.9.27 in Rd 9 and a real close one in Rd 18, 7.8.50 to 7.7.49..

This promises to be a beauty, the usual tough, hard give no Q they always are..and when asked about the teams chances, Coach Mather’s had this to say…. “The Under 18s continue their rivalry with the Dogs this weekend, like always this clash will be hard fought and the result will go down to the wire. To win we will need a real focus on our pressure, skills and structure….NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE DOGS”... Scary stuff indeed !!

Schneider’s Scintillating Seconds go in to this 2nd SF against Eady/Asp having also finished Minor Premiers and only dropping 3 games, one of which was against Eady/Asp in Rd 3 when we lost unluckily by 3 pts 9.9.63 to 10.6.66. We turned this defeat around in Rd 12 in another close game 6.11.47 to 6.6.42.

Another tight tussle can be expected for sure but I feel the boys are up to it playing some great tight football in the last 1/2 of the season.. Coach Schneider when pressed for his thoughts on the contest said ..…”The boys have worked extremely hard this season to follow the game plan and pressure the opposition for 4 Qs . This was particularly evident in out last 2 games of the year. We are extremely confident that if we continue to play in this manner we will give ourselves the best opportunity for our finals campaign” …..I`m with you Coach Schneider!!

In the Big One, Bugs Battlers hit the ground for yet another biff and batter with our old foe and last years premiers Seaford. A tough combination again this year who rolled us by 32 pts at the Den but were lucky to beat us at home in Rd 15, 8.6.54 to 9.12.66 when our game went nuts in the last mins of the match.

When pressed by Rocky for a comment on Saturdays match, Bugs thought deeply and then said……” all the boys are chomping at the bit to have another shot at the Tigers. The boys and I spoke about it in the showers after the Mt Eliza game and everyone was looking forward to the challenge”… when pressed further he stated that.. “the Team has a great opportunity to have a crack and the boys are really keen to right some wrongs and…. whens that beard coming off ? ..

The Sages say, we learn from our mistakes and hopefully we have taken stock and done some hard learning.. The game will be won or lost in the center and Poole, Lester, Tellis and Stewart are all capable of providing the drive we need for our forwards in Ulms, Hackett and the smalls to kick a winning score. The backs in Ducky, Dougy, Nakers, BJ, Dylan and Kiells will be out again to show just why they where the tightest backline in the competition this year, and will be sure to make life a misery for the Tiger Forwards..and hopefully a loosing score.

All Stonecat Past Players, Supporters, Committee, Members or just someone wanting to see some good footy are asked to get down to the Frankston Oval at 8am and throughout the day to support all our 4 teams.. I`m excited !!…FOR THE TEAMS … hit the link
