Valentine’s Day! Here’s all I ever hear:

“It’s all commercialised. It’s stupid. There’s absolutely no point in celebrating it. My girlfriend, fiance or wife probably feels the same way.”

Let it be known: the story of a man who did nothing for valentine’s day one cold February. His wife immediately seemed unconcerned with this. However, in December, his romantic mistake arose in conversation. “You never care about holidays. You didn’t even care on Valentine’s Day!”

How is it that she says she doesn’t care about it, but can use it as ammunition later? Many men will claim this is evidence of a woman’s nature; to confuse and trap men. I think to the contrary: this is evidence of man’s oblivion. Your significant other may well agree that valentine’s day is stupid, but that doesn’t stop her from feeling crappy on the day you don’t get her anything.

Let’s get this straight: What a person says and what a person feels are not the same thing. Therefore, you should be considerate of what you determine a person feels, and not just what they say. Does that mean you have to be a mind reader? Yes. Sadly, it does.

Think about it. V day arrives and she’s at work. Every girl around her is getting flowers, chocolates and other romantic gestures from their love interests. And she’s there; receiving nothing. It may well be commercialised, but that’s not her fault. Not receiving a gift? That’s your fault.

It’s one day in a year. Go all out. Buy her flowers. Give her chocolates. Take her out for a nice dinner. Take her out to a movie. Do everything that she will enjoy.

Most importantly: Don’t skimp out on cost. If she’s worth your time, then she’s worth your money. Save your money another day; use valentine’s as an excuse to give her a great day, and maybe a great night.
