To kick off 2010 we're rolling out some new features we think you'll enjoy. The changes are going online these next few days, so bear with us as we iron out any kinks.

It's Your News. You can add or remove sources from your My News page with a single click on the green plus icon beside each source anywhere on the StateNewslines sites.

Log in and start personalizing

Politically Correct

Secondly, we're adding much deeper coverage of state political news with an all new politics section. Just click the politics tab on your StateNewslines site and you'll be able to see press releases and clippings for elected officials in your state. You can also add these to your personal My News page.

Select your state and see all the latest political news

Just Log In to Enjoy

Many of the new features will need you to login to the site.
Roberts Ramblings: The fine folks at the Associated Press, in showing their newfound love for all things social media, have decided to let the Facebook hive in on their yearly top stories survey. This marks the first time in the survey's 70+ year history that the public has been invited to participate. Status update: Voting for the top news stories of the year! YAY! LOL

“We are thrilled by this opportunity to work with StateNewslines – it's the most innovative and time-saving resource for local news I've ever seen.” said Healy Baumgardner, President of Strategic Communications for Capital Communications Group. “There is no other way to get such instant, real-time access to state, local and community news. StateNewslines truly enables decision makers and leaders – from CEO's to elected officials as well as press secretaries, corporate communications practitioners, government relations professionals and busy professionals – to quickly get most accurate information on a local level – which is critical for successful decision making and execution. In today’s 24/7 online world, StateNewslines free set of news/media tools are a powerful resource to save time and quickly find state and local articles of interest.”

StateNewslines provides great value to publishers as well. In today’s environment publishers are facing many challenges building new digital business models. StateNewslines helps publishers in two ways – first by indexing links to local news articles and sending publishers valuable traffic and increasing their readership – often 30-40% of a publishers web traffic comes from search engines, indexes and social media mentions by readers. Second, many executives have disengaged to some degree with their local news, because they are just too busy to visit the dozens of sites they would like to keep up with. StateNewslines helps professionals save time finding articles of interest – and reconnects them with publishers to stay current and connected.

Many users have asked how current are the news headlines?

More than 90% of the news sources we monitored are updated each hour. You’ll see a small timer underneath each news source showing you how long it has been since the last update.

It takes a fair amount of processing time and bandwidth to search, parse and aggregate these public headline links for you - so we’ve set the maximum threshold for updates to one hour. If you need even more current news - simply click on the name of the news source and it will take you directly to the content provider where all the latest news is posted.

Several publishers such as weekly newspapers and many magazines are updated less frequently. In those cases, we run a daily search aggregation to look for new news articles and update your news page daily for those publishers.

FAQ: Can I View Past Headline History?

Many users have said when they are away for a few days, that it’s sometimes difficult to quickly catch up on past news. Our main screen just shows the most recent 15 articles from each news publisher in your state. For some publishers that might just be a few hours of stories, others a day or even a week's worth of news.

Now you can click on the ‘See More Headlines’ link next to the title of the news source or after the list of headlines. You'll get a quick, concise look at the that particular publisher's past news.

We work to index the main/most popular sections of many publishers. This is a great way to ‘look back’ at past news. We hope you enjoy this new feature.

Many users have said its a convenient feature that is greatly appreciated and helps them save time when catching up with some of their favorite news sources after being away for a while.

Remember too, that most publishers show their articles published in their free sections of the site for a little while. Often after a few days or a couple weeks - then the publisher moves their articles into registered areas or even paid archive areas.

We reference the link of the original article which usually gets you right to the article or the archive for the story.

Thanks for the Feedback

Thanks to everyone for the great feedback that has been shared with us over the past couple months, the header and navigation menus to the site have been updated.
