It is very likely that Sonny Liston was standing to Mr. Oswald's immediate right and was cropped out of this photo.

You must hand it to Cagepotato.com for this little gem.

I wish it weren’t the case, but I myself admit to having struck this nearly unavoidable and instinctive defensive posture when standing next to fighters of all stripe. I personally believe it has something to do with the autonomic nervous system’s response to a base fear of being suddenly socked in the neck for annoying a famous fighter with a photo request.

On the other hand, I can say with certainty that I once (during a binge of drinking and degenerate gambling in Atlantic City) handed promoter Don King a camera to take a photo of a friend and I, we squared off with each other and struck the pose, then took the camera back and left without taking his photo or asking for an autograph.

This drunken ploy left the inimitable Mr. King scratching and shaking his head in wonder as we waddled unsteadily away chortling like schoolboys…

I am convinced this selfless act of anti-celebrity terrorism earned me forgiveness for my shameless fist-pose transgression in the past and for those to come.

It may well be that physiology of the human body itself makes this pose impossible to avoid.

Josh Barnett Returns to MMA at DREAM.13 Against Siala Siliga

Josh Barnett (24-5 MMA, 0-0 DREAM) and Siala “Mighty Mo” Siliga (3-1 MMA, 0-0 DREAM) are signed to face off at DREAM.13.

Siligia’s manager, Steve Rusich, confirmed the bout.

DREAM.13 is set for March 22 at Yokohama Arena in Yokohama, Japan and also features a featherweight championship bout between current champ Bibiano Fernandes and top-ranked Joachim Hansen.

The show will be broadcast live on HDNet at 3 a.m. ET/12 a.m. PT.

DREAM confirmed Barnett’s slot on the card on Friday but his opponent remained unclear.

The 32-year-old Barnett has not fought since submitting Gilbert Yvel with strikes at Affliction: Day of Reckoning.

He signed to fight Fedor Emelianenko in August of 2009 before he failed a pre-fight drug test administered by the California State Athletic Commission testing positive for steroids. Barnett’s failed drug test brought down the upstart Affliction promotion.

Japanese promotions are considerably more lenient when it comes to drug testing fighters.

Barnett is yet to gain clearance to fight in the US and has postponed further testing on a number of recent occasions.

Siliga will fight in just his fifth MMA rules bout. He has extensive experience as a kickboxer.

The two-time K-1 World Grand Prix champ began his MMA career with three-straight wins but was choked out by Semmy Schilt in his last fight.

Bellator Champ Hector Lombard Defends Australian Cage Fighting Championship Title

The Bellator Fighting Championships policy of allowing fighters to take fights outside the promotion while No. 1 contenders are determined in four different weight classes looks to be an excellent strategy.

As Bellator gears up for its season-two middleweight tourney to determine a No. 1 contender for the champs, Hector Lombard (23-2-1) defended his other title, the Cage Fighting Championship middleweight belt, in Australia.

Lombard’s win over Art Santore (18-8) extended Lombard’s unbeaten streak to 18 fights and marked his 13th straight win since a 2007 draw with Kyle Noke.

The Bellator champ’s win came at the 11-bout “CFC 12: Lombard vs. Santore” event at the 5,500-seat Hordern Pavilion in Sydney, New Wales, Australia.

Lombard opened a cut on Santore’s head, and Santore was not allowed to continue. Lombard scored a TKO win which meanse ighteen of his 24 career wins havecome via stoppage.

Lombard was close to signing with the UFC in 2007.

In 2009, Lombard defeated Virgil Lozano, Damien Stelly and Jared Hess to win the first-ever Bellator middleweight belt title.

Back in the day – and before he was a star – Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell was a Division I wrestler at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.

Chuck went on to graduate with a B.A. in Business and Accounting in 1995, which ultimately made him the Baddest Accountant on Planet Earth.

This fight, against Vernon “Tiger” White at UFC 49: Unfinished Business, marked the second for Liddell in a seven-fight win streak that began with Liddell’s victory over Tito Ortiz in April of 2004, and ended with a loss to Quinton “Rampage” Jackson at UFC 71.

In May 2007, Roger Huerta became the first mixed martial artist to make the cover of Sports Illustrated Magazine as part of a story showcasing the rising popularity of mixed martial arts.

Huerta submitted Clay Guida by rear naked choke in the third round on December 8, 2007 at The Ultimate Fighter 6 Finale. After taking the worst of hit early on, Huerta stunned Guida with a knee to the face and went on to an impressive come from behind win.

Losses to Kenny Florian and Gray Maynard spelled the end to Huerta’s stint with the UFC and brought on his signing with Bellator’s lightweight tourney.
