The sisters, operating the lemonade stand in their front yard since Memorial Day weekend, have struggled to turn a profit in the ice-cold beverage retail market during their first full week in business.  Government officials also expressed concern that the sisters had not implemented an employment diversity plan nor had they properly calculated their carbon footprint.

“The sisters are adorable,” conceded one government source.  “However, when a private enterprise fails to secure enough capital to operate, or when it fails to hire neighbors and friends, or when it fails to properly account for its carbon emissions, directly or indirectly, we are left with no choice but to force them into a government-controlled semi-private entity subject to strict government regulations.”

Government officials tell Spotted Owl News the lemonade-stand industry is extremely important as it involves the use of migrant workers and ice, which is subject to melting from global warming.  Further, the government explains that letting two pre-school sisters run a lemonade stand that may fail could have a catastrophic effect on the global economy.

The sisters expressed extreme and immediate outrage at the takeover before going to the pool and forgetting all about it.

The cold blob has baffled scientists since it was discovered earlier this week as it departs significantly from other geologic features in the region.

Stanley Guttenberg, Ph.D., a leading geologist explained, “Typically you aren’t going to see a large, subterranean, cylindrical blob in that location.  When we first discovered it, naturally we assumed Michael Moore was hibernating.  However, we have learned Mr. Moore is not under the Nevada desert and is, in fact, above ground attempting to remain relevant in California.”

Scientists expressed some concern that the blob could rise up out of the ground and terrorize small towns, but conceded that would pose less of a threat than Michael Moore.
