Prepaid users are often subjected to stingy quotas at expensive rates. The usual pay as you go rate doesn’t really cut it but luckily we are seeing telcos introducing weekly and monthly data plans lately to make mobile internet affordable for the prepaid users.

Now TuneTalk has something different which is affordable for light but consistent daily mobile internet users. Apart from its low 5sen/MB data rate, they are offering a daily 50MB for 88 sen. The service is activated by SMS by sending “50MB” to 7777. The plan is renewed automatically on a daily basis and you can stop the subscription by SMSing “STOP” to 7777.

While 50MB/day doesn’t seem that much, but on a monthly basis that’s 1.5GB over 30 days for RM26.40. That’s pretty good value only if you’re a consistent user that uses less than 50MB each day. Once you exceed the 50MB quota, you’ll be charged the usual 5sen/MB rate. So if you have a suddenly craving to download huge files or stream video in a single day, you might want to keep your usage in check as you’ll be paying excess charge upon exceeding 50MB. Your data usage can be checked by SMSing “STATUS” to 7777.

The Samsung Galaxy S III will be commercially available next week but those hoping to get their hands on the Pebble Blue version might need to wait much longer. According to some sources, production issues of the Pebble Blue rear casing is said to be a cause and may delay its availability during the launch.

Globally, the delay seems to be evident considering the telcos in the UK are only carrying white versions. Earlier when it was spotted on sale in Dubai with only the white version available. For us folks in Malaysia, the trend seems to be similar with signs showing DiGi & Celcom offering only the Marble White version next week. So far there’s no news when the blue version will be available and hopefully it won’t take as long as the white iPhone 4.

While white colour seems to be the more popular choice for phones, personally we felt that the Pebble Blue version is a better colour on the Galaxy S III. In our brief hands-on, the Pebble Blue Galaxy S III looks and feels better and it isn’t as glossy as the white version. Then again, that’s just our personal preference.

Which one would you prefer? The glossy Marble White or Pebble Blue version? Drop them in the comments below.

If you haven’t seen it yet, check out our unboxing of the Marble White Samsung Galaxy S III.

Maxis has introduced a faster wireless broadband plan that runs on its newly upgraded DC-HSPA+ network. DC-HSPA+ is the next evolution of HSPA which offers download speeds up to 42Mbps and U Mobile was the first to offer it in Malaysia.

For Maxis, they are offering a 6GB broadband plan at RM98/month which it claims to offer download speeds up to 10Mbps. In the FAQ, they are claiming best effort speeds between 1-8Mbps download and 0.5-2Mbps upload. The modem is offered at RM160 on a 12 months contract and there’s a one time RM100 activation fee for new subscriber.

In terms of coverage, Maxis seems to have a wide DC HSPA+ coverage across the Klang Valley. You can check if your area is covered here, but make sure that DC HSPA+ is ticked.

We’ve have a Samsung Galaxy S III for review courtesy of Samsung Malaysia. As usual, we have unboxed the device giving you a peek into what’s inside.

The unit which we have is the 16GB version which is expected to be available commercially by 31st of May. The 32GB version is said to be coming to Malaysia later on though no dates were given. The highest capacity 64GB model is still being considered but is subject to market reception.

In terms of colour, we have the Marble White version which looks glossy but without being a fingerprint magnet, and that’s a good thing. However if given a choice, we prefer the Pebble Blue version as it looks more premium with its brushed aluminium appearance.

To recap on the specs, the Galaxy S III comes with a 1.4GHz quad core Exynos 4 processor, 1GB of RAM and has a 4.8″ HD Super AMOLED. It has a 8MP camera what’s capable of shooting 20 photos in burst mode and able to record HD videos at 1080p

Stay tune as we will be having a hands-on first impression next.

As mentioned earlier during the BlackBerry Curve 9220 announcement, TuneTalk is offering a special bundle for the Curve 9220 which is now open for pre-order. If you purchase the device from TuneTalk at RM599, it will come preloaded with 12 months BBM service.
UPDATE: Celcom has removed the Samsung Galaxy S III Pebble Blue colour option & collection dates from their ROI form.

Celcom today has just started its pre-registration of interest for the Samsung Galaxy S III. Apart from the usual form of personal details and colour preference, the registration form also lets you pick your preferred collection venues – Midvalley South Court KL, Queensbay Mall Penang and Suria Mall JB. The earlier Midvalley venue for Galaxy S III was discovered earlier by one of our sharp readers, which gave us an indication that it is launching next week.

The pre-registration form also reveals that the collection date of 31 May – 2 June, which is a clear clue that the device can be in your hands as early as next Thursday. So this is it! Mark 31st of May on your calendar as the official availability date of the Samsung Galaxy S III in Malaysia.

For more information, head over to Celcom’s Galaxy S III ROI page.

After the Samsung Galaxy S III media preview last night, DiGi has enabled back its registration of interest for the new Android flagship device. Compared to its earlier ROI which we saw, the new form is simpler without you having to choose the colour. If you’re wondering what storage comes on the Galaxy S III, it was revealed last night that Malaysia will be getting the 16GB version first followed by the 32GB version sometime later.

If you’re eyeing the Galaxy S III on contract with DiGi, and want to be among the first to know its subsidised pricing, head over to the registration page.

Do look out for our unboxing and first hands on impression of the Galaxy S III soon!

Earlier on during MWC 2012, Samsung had announced the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1, which is basically a Galaxy Tab 10.1 with a stylus. When the new iPad was launched, they didn’t hesitate to compare its features side by side.

So far the Note 10.1 is yet to be made commercially available but Samsung has went back and improved the device with more grunt. Instead of a dual-core 1.4GHz processor, SamMobile has reported that the Note 10.1 is now rocking a quad-core processor (believed to be similar as Galaxy S III) and comes with a smaller S-Pen which is now stowable within the tablet itself. Earlier on, the stylus was a separate item which is carried separately like the HTC Flyer. The bigger stylus is still available as an option but a separate holder can be purchased separately.

The Galaxy Note 10.1 is said to be commercial available by end of June though pricing details and local availability is unknown at this point. Head after the break for more photos of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 and its stylus.

Most Android smartphone owners are eager to get the latest OS updates for their device. HTC is no exception with its wide range of smartphones that come with decent specs that’s capable of running the latest Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

With speculation and unofficial announcements flying around, HTC has published a full schedule which sets the record straight on their commitment to upgrade its current and past models. So far we have seen several models being upgraded including the HTC Sensation XE. The Android 4.0 upgrade comes with its HTC Sense 3.6.

Next in line will be the HTC Incredible S, EVO 3D, Desire S & Rhyme which is scheduled for June/July. Surprisingly, the granddaddy HTC Desire HD is still included with roll out expected in July-August.

Unfortunately not all devices are listed especially the lower end HTC Wildfire S, Chacha, Salsa and Explorer. Even their 7″ tablet HTC Flyer is not listed as well.

Head over to HTC’s blog to check out your device’s roll out timelines.
