According to an official press statement released by JPJ today, the decision stems from non-compliance with agreed contractual terms and conditions, as well as unresolved obligations and responsibilities that have yet to be fulfilled by the service provider.

However, JPJ said that existing bookings for the computerised Driver Education Co-Curriculum (KPP01) test made through MYEG before 5 October will remain valid and proceed as scheduled. New bookings from 5 October onward must be made directly through KPP Test Centres at registered driving institutes nationwide.

The suspension follows mounting scrutiny over the company’s financial obligations. Just hours before JPJ’s announcement, The Straits Times of Singapore reported that Zetrix AI has been facing headwinds over unremitted funds collected on behalf of the Road Transport Department, with total outstanding sums reportedly exceeding RM200 million as of late September.

That means MyDigital ID users can now verify their identity or registration with the new MyKAD. To recap, there was an issue where the new MyKAD was rolled out before the system was fully ready. As a result, users had to register physically through the kiosk to enable MyDigital ID.

MyDigital ID has resolved the issue, but it doesn’t support all mobile platform.

New MyKad holders are advised to update their app to the latest version on Google Play Store.

If you need to get a MyDigital ID account urgently, you’ll have to do it at a physical MyDigital ID kiosk.

For those who are planning to switch to the new MyKad, they can pre-register at JPN for MyDigital ID by informing the on-duty officer.

What’s new with the next-gen MyKad?

To recap, the new MyKAD was launched on 16 September and offers 53 advanced security elements. Some of it includes both contact and contactless NFC, intricate patterns and enforcement QR code for quick digital verification of authenticity by authorities.

Previously, the new redesign had affected the eKYC systems of government and private sensors because the MyDigital ID app is still showing the template of the previous generation MyKad which has the cardholder’s photo on the right while the chip is on the left.

As a result, the new MyKad was also rejected during the eKYC process when attempting to sign up for TNG eWallet, Ryt Bank, AEON Bank and GXBank.

JPN had acknowledged the issue and are engaging with relevant agencies and eKYC providers to tackle the issue.

Launched at Universiti Malaya, ILMUcode combines an AI coding assistant with ILMU-GLM-5.3, the latest model to join the ILMU family. The model was developed in partnership with Chinese AI company Z.ai.

Besides generating and modifying code, ILMUcode is designed to work across software projects, troubleshoot problems and carry out development tasks with less manual intervention.

Universiti Malaya students get RM300 in ILMUcode credits

Universiti Malaya is the first university in Malaysia to introduce ILMUcode to its students.

As the new semester begins, 800 first-year students from UM’s Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology will each receive RM100 in credits per month for three months (total: RM300 in credits) to explore and build with ILMUcode.

That’s what a Taiwan-based smartphone case maker wanted to find out, so it conducted what could be one of the most epic iPhone drop tests yet by sending it more than 30km above the ground.

It all started from the CEO’s crazy idea

Rhino Shield. Pte.Ltd. and Sent Into Space Ltd. (UK) teamed up to break the record for highest drop of a mobile phone in a phone case (natural landforms). The company dropped the iPhone 17 Pro equipped with its special phone case from a height of 100,416 feet (30,607 metres) above Earth. That’s more than triple the height of the world’s tallest mountain Mount Everest 29,031 feet (8,848 metres).

Recovered in Kiruna, Sweden, the phone landed undamaged despite being dropped from such height. As a result, this feat earned a Guinness World Records title for RhinoShield.

According to Mujou Hsiao, Brand Experience Manager, it all started with the crazy idea from the company’s founder, Eric Wang. Initially, the plan on the 50 consecutive 15-metre drops or most durable mono-material case.

The company even considered dropping it from hot air balloons, while skydiving, or weather balloons. But, it felt that those heights were not enough. That is, until Eric said:

‘If we’re going high, let’s go as high as humanly possible.’

And that was how the idea for “Stratospheric Drop” was born.

How did they pull this off?

The phone was carried more than 30km above the ground by a balloon before it was dropped, leaving everyone involved in the stunt nervous as it plummeted back down towards Earth.

For context, the standard lab drop tests are around 1.2 m. For extreme testing, RhinoShield regularly drop its phones from the 6th floor of their office (about 23m). But the stratosphere is 26,000 to 36,000 m, over 1,000 times higher than its office building.

In order to fulfill the requirements for the Guinness World Records, Sent Into Space created an Ejection Payload comprising the phone, a camera to capture the impact, a tracking system to confirm the descent speed, and a stability-inducing drogue chute to ensure the phone hit the ground first. Dr Chris Rose, Head of Projects at Sent Into Space said:

“The chute size was calibrated precisely to offset velocity increases caused by the additional mass of the recording equipment, enabling the speed of the Ejection Payload to match the terminal velocity of an unencumbered free-falling phone. This was verified by an independent third party at leading academic institution.”

Sent Into Space also recommended setting up the base at Esrange Space Center in Sweden, a restricted zone twice the size of Luxembourg (roughly 5,200 to 5,600 square km).

The location was purposely chosen so the phone would land in an uninhabited wilderness area, minimising the risk of anyone getting hurt. Even so, finding it proved challenging. Mujou said it felt like looking for a needle in a haystack.

“Finding a single phone in a wilderness that vast was like finding a needle in a massive haystack. The tracking was narrowed down to 2 km, but it still took us more than five hours to find it.” – Mujou Hsiao, Brand Experience Manager

With help from Sent Into Space, the team eventually managed to locate and recover the iPhone.

On top of that, external factors such as unpredictable crosswinds, descent speeds, landing surfaces, and deadlines were some of the huge challenges faced by team as they are only in Kiruna for a week.

It also doesn’t help that there is a strict helicopter payload limits, only four people (excluding the pilot) could go up for the initial search: two engineers from Sent Into Space equipped with tracking gear, and two videographers. So, they had to wait for a long time before getting the result.

When the team finally recovered the phone, they found out the phone was completely undamaged. Notably there are no visible cracks on the phone screen, and it doesn’t seem there’s any damage with the phone’s internal parts or hardware.

Guiness then confirms the phone is fully functional and congratulates the team for their new world record.

1.4MW of EV charging capacity deployed at Sepang

Several months ago, JomCharge had deployed three DC Chargers at Sepang International Circuit that provide a total of 360kW of charging capacity across six nozzles.

Another 1,050kW capacity is provided across seven mobile charging nozzles through its collaboration with Kelle Energy. This brings the combined charging capacity to 1.4MW.

JomCharge said the charging infrastructure is being used to support the event’s private fleet, helping to keep vehicles used by teams, partners and event operations charged throughout the weekend.

The Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia is taking place at Sepang International Circuit from 2 to 4 October 2026. This marks Formula 1’s return to Sepang for the first time since the circuit last hosted an F1 race in 2017.

Kelle Energy mobile EV chargers add temporary DC charging capacity

As shown above, JomCharge and Kelle Energy have deployed the newer third-generation mobile EV chargers (EPLVS).

The units deployed at Sepang are capable of delivering up to 150kW of DC charging and feature an integrated battery energy storage system with approximately 200kWh of stored energy capacity.

Instead of relying entirely on a fixed charger installation, the mobile chargers can easily provide additional DC charging capacity where it is needed without having to install another permanent charging point.

Similar to Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) assisted EV chargers, these mobile EV chargers would need to be recharged once the battery is depleted.

The mobile units have motorised wheels and can be repositioned using a remote control. So in this setup, these mobile EV “powerbanks” can be recharged at the JomChargeX chargers when needed.

In February this year, Kelle Energy announced a partnership with JomCharge, to deploy 100 mobile EV chargers in Malaysia. The version demonstrated at the time was equipped with a 60kW DC charger and a 184kWh BESS.

The mobile chargers were pitched as a way to add EV charging capacity at locations with grid constraints, as well as for commercial fleets, temporary sites and events where installing permanent charging infrastructure may not be practical.

The temporary deployment at Sepang provides a real-world example of how such mobile charging units can supplement existing fixed DC chargers when significantly more charging capacity is required.

Mobile EV chargers like these could also be useful during festive seasons, when demand for quick EV top-ups typically increases at highway R&Rs. However, this would only be practical if there is a sufficiently stable power source nearby to recharge the mobile chargers once their onboard batteries are depleted.

With twin electric motors, Gen6 M eDrive technology and a preliminary WLTP-rated range of up to 830km, could this be a new rival for the Tesla Model 3 Performance?

At the moment, BMW hasn’t revealed its power output or acceleration figures just yet. However, it has shown the design and a combination of M-specific driving controls, steering-wheel paddles and design tweaks to set the M60 apart from the regular i3.

BMW i3 M60 gets Gen6 M eDrive and Heart of Joy

The BMW i3 M60 xDrive features a twin-motor electric powertrain with Gen6 M eDrive technology. Working alongside it are BMW’s Heart of Joy computer and BMW M Dynamic Performance Control, which coordinates the car’s driving responses with ultra-low latency.

Beyond a quicker sprint time, we’d expect the new setup to deliver more precise power delivery and improved handling compared to the “regular” i3 50 xDrive.

Being an electric M Performance model, the i3 M60 also gets steering-wheel paddles that allow the driver to adjust the electric powertrain’s responses.

For context, the regular i3 50 xDrive already produces 345kW (462hp) and 645Nm, enabling a 0-100km/h time of 4.7 seconds. It also offers a 108.7kWh usable battery, up to 912km of WLTP-rated range and up to 400kW DC fast charging.

Despite being a more performance-oriented EV, it still appears to be a capable long distance cruiser. While the battery and charging specs have yet to be revealed, BMW has indicated a preliminary maximum range of up to 830km WLTP for the i3 M60 xDrive.

M Yellow Lights and exclusive 21-inch wheels

The i3 M60 xDrive gets its own front “M” lighting graphic on the central “grille”, complemented by BMW’s new M Yellow Lights. These are also offered on the petrol-powered BMW M350 xDrive.

At the rear, it also gets a different tail light design, similar to the M350.

Also offered are exclusive 21-inch Style 1067M aerodynamic wheels along with red brake callipers.

The i3 M60 isn’t the electric M3

The M60 won’t be the peak of BMW’s electric 3 Series performance lineup. This is still an M Performance model and there’s the upcoming first-ever fully electric M3 to take things further.

BMW has teased repeatedly that its next generation of fully electric high-performance M3 will feature quad-motors, with one driving each whee. It is expected to deliver a combined power output of over 800hp.

Together with M-specific Heart of Joy control software, the system can manage power and torque individually at each corner. It can even disconnect the front axle for a pure RWD driving mode.

Spiritual successor to the BMW i4 M60?

While we wait for the i3 M60’s performance figures, the BMW i4 M60 xDrive provides us with an idea of what to expect from an electric M Performance model.

The i4 M60, which wasn’t officially offered in Malaysia, features a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup producing up to 442kW (592hp) and 795Nm. With Sport Boost, it accelerates from 0-100km/h in 3.7 seconds and reaches an electronically limited top speed of 225km/h.

For our market, we had the BMW i4 M50 xDrive which was launched from RM430,000 back in 2023. It offers 400kW (536hp) of power and 795Nm of torque, capable of a 0-100km/h time of 3.9 seconds. It had an electronically limited top speed of 225km/h.

With the new i3 M60, we expect comparable or improved performance, potentially with quicker acceleration. As a comparison, the Tesla Model 3 Performance has a listed 0-100km/h time of 3.1 seconds and a top speed of 261km/h.

The BMW i3 M60 xDrive is scheduled to debut in 2027. So far there’s no indicative pricing and availability details for the BMW i3 lineup in Malaysia.
