I present you pocket fuzzer!
The circuit inside this effect box is great for creating 8bit sustains, noisy square waves and cool distortions. With the right settings you can use fuzzer with all your electric instruments.
There are 3 switches. Two of them are used to bypass input and output.The third switch is linked to a pot which controls the volume.
Built in an old VHS-C tape box and powered by a 9v battery which is included in the package.

Great for spicing up your noise toys!

There it is.. Famous DIY cliché...

This simple (yet very noisy) object is actually a 556 timer oscillator which generates pulses. Frequency and the length of the pulse are controlled by turning the knobs.
The original circuitry of the APC's creator Forrest M. Mims III was modified in this project.

The housing is made from a round Altoid (citrus sours) box. The push button acts as a trigger. The crystal clear red led
flickers in rythm with the pulses created by 556 ic.

It has a mono sound output. Powered by a 9v battery (included in the package)

Bent Sound Toy (Farm Animals with Strange Behaviors)

Hiya!

This toy contains a musical keyboard (12 keys) and seven different animal sounds. It has also a "mod button" which changes the function of each button. There are different mods; including animal beatbox function, musical keyboard, human(child?)voices and classic children songs.
In the bent version two pots were added for pitch bending.
There is also a red button (marked as break) which can be used to interrupt samples.
The knobs works opposite to each other. For example; to achieve the highest pitch, one knob should be turned to right while the other is on the left.
The normal pitch can be restored by lining up the red indicators of the knobs.

The toy has a mono sound output and a square shaped red on-of button.
The original housing is carefully painted with (metallic dark violet) acrylic spray paint. The original animal shaped buttons and some of the keys are painted red.

It's been tested with speakers.

Bent Educational(!) Toy: Fatmatron

Hiya,

I've bent an unusual toy which is filled with strange samples (vocalised by a little girl). It has output (mono jack), two pots, one ldr and 4 buttons. It needs fairly bright light to play it's sample in normal speed. Ldr is acting like an electric guitars tremolo unit. The first pot (bigger one) changes the speed and the second (which also basically changes speed) one acts as an heavy manipulation control. I've used an empty altoid tin (thanks to my girlfriend) as housing and drilled button holes on it with a dremmel (thanks to myloo).

Hi

I'm into opto-theremins nowadays. I'm not sure if there's someone reading these posts but i'm still pushing my patience to encode videos to show things. However my 5 yo operating system is in it's death bed so you have only pictures of it for now.
(I still don't have the heart to format the bastard)
But i'm planning to form a noise trio after refurbishing my first noise toy (smash,hit,run) in a gameboy cartridge box.

If you into opto-theremins you can learn the circuit i've used

i recommend using a crystal clear box.( The sound is a bit harder to control but much more musical than the sound of a light-proof design)

The first theremin i've made was a ghazala-looking present so i don't have the photos of it.

The first one (left) is made following the original circuitry. The second one is made from the components of a failed attempt and it has only one 555 timer (acting as an oscillator) and one ldr.

Hi

I'm posting photos of a little present that i made for a friend. It's a noise toy which used to be a keychain in it's previous life(when i was a little boy). RCA jacks were used for buttons.

edit: it seems that getlofi people have bent this kind of keychain. Their approach is much more practical and...portable :)
check it out. you can google it by the keyword "dub siren" if i'm not mistaken. (too lazy to double check)

Hi

I've been enjoying pinhole photography in flickr galleries. Beautiful photos out there.. I've been informed about pinholes while i was in college but never had the motivation till now. So after browsing net a bit about different pinhole approaches i've decided to make my own, an unique design, a holy artifact which will be discovered in 3000 AD by superior life forms..(if you saw the photos you already know that it's a crappy metal box covered with my beloved electricity tape but it took me hours and gave me several cuts and burns..so if there are ingenious men who like the cromagnon approach in making things, i bet they like it.)

Pinhole photography can be very serious (google pinhole size calculator) or fun (soda can, juice box, film canister, smiley cam etc..) It's your choice and your own unique creation. You can always use a drilled lens cap four your expensive DSLR or purchase a "lens baby". But none of these will give you the satisfaction of an crappy-looking-light-leaking-black-box.

-containers are matte black coated inside, very light proof
-metal is more durable than cardboard (heh!)
-it has stylish look with all the film brands on it

-it's a pain in the ass to load/unload it
-you always need black tape with you if you're willing to use it away from home
-metal can be sharp!!

I started mine by tearing apart film containers. I've formed a box glueing(hot glue gun) four containers together. I've made a small hole on the front side, cut some metal from a container, made it nice and shiny with a sandpaper. I've made a tiny hole( smaller than the previous) taped the metal on the bigger hole. For each side of the box, i've bent film containers film feeder thingies (black fabric tips which prevent light leaks) and i've put black plastic squares (cut from a wristwatch gift box) on the top of thingies . Two empty film canisters hold the empty reel and the unexposed reel which will be fed into the first. Lot's of black tape was used (of course)
I prefer the tape-shutter because a magnet-shutter does not hold to heavily-taped surface.

Looking forward to send some photos.. I'm not very hopeful about the first reel but who knows eh?

ps: Made a discovery in my dusty shelves. I have a 120 camera (Agfacolor, fixed lens, three shutter speeds-30/100/B-, very good looking simple camera..) I'm planning to use it after i repair broken corners(very leaky for now)

But i've find a decent speak n spell toy with my french mate david... Just put a phone jack and voila, a chaos machine. The name on the thingy is "my first laptop"( tr. ilk laptopum)

I've made a very crappy yet promising add-on for my camcorder... the idea for cheap'o wide angle solutions were bugging me for a time now so i started to experiment. The main rule is to spend almost no money while doing this. Combine a doorviewer with the proper housing, secure it with some found material (pillow sponge in my case) and fix the thing to your camcorder(with a nice material, if you don't have the electrical tape fetish -un?-like me )..check the following examples..the distortion in image is uncontrollable..kinda like it.tell me what you think.

Hiya!

I have plenty time to kill and the urge of breaking things...So i was bored and i combined my crappy webcam with the pseudo viewfinder of my Fisheye2 camera. The result is a very lo-res webcam for recreational purposes.If i find a decent webcam maybe it will work as a digital camera too. There are alternatives like combining a microscope and a webcam to record your rotten food etc. Give it a try...

Hi!

Kulig had it's first gig. There were problems, but it was fun and productive in overall. I've used the glitcher-ware and the projector (it was a sony..don't know the model) handled heavy glitches very well.. During the gig, there wasn't almost any "no signal" except a few black-out which took five second or so in total. Heavy distortions and strobes worked well in projection wall, covering the body of our sax player/vocalist... Hoping to record better the next gig, till then, feed yourself with

The new photos ( the normal one and the badly photoshopped one) of the Glitcher-Ware.
I've added some pots and buttons for glitches/heavy image distortion, there 4 LED with their own cycle (which are salvaged from an eiffel-tower-lamp-for-tourists thingy), it is now completely portable with shoulder strap and 9v. battery..Gonna post some video about it after making some tweaks...

Planning to combine it's images with Resolume's output..

Hi.. i've been busy with experimenting in vvvv, context free art, eyesweb, salvation etc... and 1 to 8 bit video encoding. I didn't touch to solder iron for a while but found pretty neat stuff to use for our (now promising) project Kulig. I'll be back (hopefully) with a tv tower, which will be fed by video consoles, processed image from computer, visual sounds pattern, including "Censtron's wave vessels"
