From Comcast, (which stands to benefit as people realize dial-up won’t get you to church):

The sites share the same basic approach: rock-style worship music and a sermon recorded at the in-person weekend service that is quickly mixed with live or recorded greetings expressly for online viewers. Volunteers on live chat emphasize that day’s Bible teaching and block inappropriate posts. (During one recent service, a man who said he was logged on from India wrote that he was looking for a Christian wife.)

Still, each has individual features.

At Seacoast Church, based in Mount Pleasant, S.C., online viewers can repent by posting a private record of their sins on a cross. Thumbnails of viewers’ Facebook profiles appear during worship on Central Christian’s Facebook Church so people can click on each others’ pages to quickly connect. On the Granger site, visitors will be able to choose “seats” in an auditorium, then click on surrounding seats to exchange Facebook and Twitter addresses.

The authors of a timely new book claim that Muslim jihadists are infiltrating every aspect of the military. The book is entitled, Muslim Mafia: Inside the Secret Underworld That’s Conspiring to Islamize America. As Western Europe has found out, there is an organized strategy to “Islamize” the West. A large march by Muslims in London was just cancelled over security concerns. Muslims had previously taken to the streets to call for Sharia law to be established in that country. Counter protests turned violent and caused the cancellation of the march. The Islamists are on the march, and there is virtually nothing to stop them from their goal. The news media in America are bending over backwards this morning in attempting to downplay the Ft. Hood terrorists Islamic beliefs. Thankfully, we have other news outlets that are reporting the full story. This website is keeping a documented body count on Islamic terrorism from the so-called “religion of peace.”

I predict the emerging church will not last another 10 years, if that, and it may be in its death-throes already. It will be replaced by another heresy more exciting and more contemporary. That’s the nature of lies–they always breed new lies to keep pace with the times. Rob Bell, Brian McLaren, and others like them will enjoy their time in the limelight, peddling their agnostic nonsense, but they will be forgotten as forgettable faces in ever changing merry-go-round of charlatans and heretics. They will not be remembered because they will not prevail against the Rock of Divine Truth, and no one remembers the losers.

The fashion that is the emergent church is a dream, and like all dreams, it is exciting because for a moment it can set aside the rules of reality. It feels free, it feels real and exhilarating. It brings the thrill of something strange and exciting. But it is not real, and like all dreams, it will come to an end when the light of a new day, of reality, breaks clear and strong through the muddle of darkness that so facilitates dreaming.

Those in the emergent church heap scorn on those of us who embrace an ancient creed. Yes, my creed is ancient, and I embrace its antiquity with pride, for my creed is old enough and strong enough to become outdated. The truest and therefore the most relevant things are always the oldest and the most enduring. Their creed, if it can be called a creed at all, is subject to the whims of an increasingly bored society. It will last exactly as long as the public mood supports it, which will not be long at all.

The emergent church is a fad, and like all fads, it is fading. Its a fad because its both new and popular, and it’s fading because it is false. It is false because truth is neither new nor popular. Truth will prevail, because truth has prevailed. Only the truth survives fashions, moods, persecutions, governments, gods, foolish philosophies, and all the assaults of time. Only a lie can be truly new. Some lies are old, but the truth is always older. Indeed, truth is older than all philosophies, it is older than mankind, it is older still than the world, it is older than all the deeps of time. It is even as old as God.

Many months ago, SliceofLaodicea.com featured a piece about a church where a woman pastor tried to fill the empty pews at her dying church, so she opened up her service to dogs. It appears to be a trend. This article from Associated Press says the following about Covenant Presbyterian Church in Los Angeles:

So Eggebeen came up with a hair-raising idea: He would turn God’s house into a doghouse by offering a 30-minute service complete with individual doggie beds, canine prayers and an offering of dog treats. He hopes it will reinvigorate the church’s connection with the community, provide solace to elderly members and, possibly, attract new worshippers who are as crazy about God as they are about their four-legged friends.

Here’s a theological gem from “Rev.” Eggebeen.

“And when we love a dog and a dog loves us, that’s a part of God and God is a part of that. So we honor that.”

The article continues.

Traditionally, conventional Christians believe that only humans have redeemable souls, said Laura Hobgood-Oster, a religion professor at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas.

But a growing number of congregations from Massachusetts to Texas to California are challenging that assertion with regular pet blessings and, increasingly, pet-centric services, said Hobgood-Oster, who studies the role of animals in Christian tradition.

We all know that God-centric worship services went out of fashion a long time ago. There is some prophetic irony in all of this. Worship has gone to the dogs, quite literally, but also spiritually. These mausoleum churches are dying because they long ago made God over into an image of their own preference. God has now given them over to reprobate minds. So these befuddled pastors are running pet-centric church services and feeling like a success because 12 elderly folk showed up with their canines for snackies and a cuddle. Giving snacks out to dogs is about the only thing these churches are good for now.
