I had the great honor of attending the #Echo11 Breakout by the LifeChurch media team, aka The Bling Team. I’ve been taking a look at their Bling Blog and stumbled upon this simple yet elegant promo for their series entitled “One Thing”. Looks like a lot of work for just 21 seconds. Time well spent. I haven’t used this blog in a while. It used to be a very scripted collection of ideas, and then images. Now I want it to be a little less filtered. In fact, I want this to be my literal sketchbook and notebook so that my team and volunteers can benefit from whatever scraps I place here, typos and all.

So without further ado, here are some note I took while watching the great documentary “Art & Copy”

The agencies can’t do ads without the creatives. Therefore the CREATIVES should be in charge! Rise up!

You should see something and think it’s outrageous and then in a few seconds think “Man, that’s on the nose”

Great advertisement makes food taste better.

You manufacture any feeling you want people to have.

Brutal Simplicity – a philosophy of advertisement.

Art serving Capitalism // Art serving the city // art serving ministry.

Got Milk campaign. Great advertisement starts with something true.
People don’t drink milk after running (does the body good…’). They drink milk when they want to eat something sweet.

Entertainment form. Advertisement is entertaining people with products. Helping them connect to it.

FAIL HARDER. Take that risk with ideas.

“Strong ideas, simply presented.”

I’d rather deal with a tyrant any day than with a committee.

If there’s a truth in the ad, it’s not about the product, it’s about people wanting to be in on the joke, on the secret.

We have higher aspirations for our clients than they do. You can be more than just a company.

Advertising is an avenue to express an emotion.

People buy into ads because they’re buying into a life they WANT to live.

Move people with emotion. “Just Do It” campaign moved so many people to take action in life.

People don’t mind being sold to if they know why it’s happening and they enjoy the process.

Most advertising is trashy, they aim so low. They just want 5 points communicated. It can be so much better.

Advertising, when done right, can be part of our culture instead of pollution.
Think of iPod ads, tallouse lautrec ads. Now considered art.

FEAR IS A VERY POWERFUL DEPRESSOR. Don’t fear. Create a nurturing environment for the creatives because many people will shoot down their ideas A LOT.

Need a deep sense of affection for people you work with.

Artists have a need to express themselves and tell stories.

CF’s mission – ideas on how to communicate that.

Come on the weekend. // Worship together.
Join a small group. // share your life with others.
Serve in ministry. // be the change.
Reach out to other people. // show others how.

Uh oh. It’s been a while since I posted something on here. I definitely need to because a lot has happened in the last couple of months. Give me a little time to put something together.
