Higher Quality, Faster, and Now the First Total Workflow Solution for Video Encoding and Publishing

Sorenson Media

Sorenson Media today announced the immediate availability of Sorenson Squeeze 6, a significant update to the gold-standard video encoding software application. Sorenson Squeeze 6 provides the first total workflow solution for video professionals, enabling customers to employ innovative tools - such as email and text notifications and a secure review and approval process - that simplify the overall workflow and allow them to more easily encode and publish their video files on the Internet. Optimized video codecs and new filters have also been added, significantly improving video quality and encoding speed.
Video Management Made Easy
Working in tandem with the Sorenson 360 Video Delivery Network (Sorenson Media?s re-imagined online video publishing platform), Sorenson Squeeze 6 includes a variety of new unique features that make encoding and publishing videos online easier:

E-mail and Text Notifications. Sorenson Squeeze 6 can now send automatic notifications to clients, colleagues, supervisors, friends or the users themselves via e-mail and text message (SMS) when encoding jobs are completed. With this new feature, users can start an encoding job and walk away, knowing they will be notified immediately when the process is done.
Review and Approval Workflow. Video professionals can now add their clients? and supervisors?contact information to Sorenson Squeeze, which will automatically send them secure, password protected videos for review and approval after encoding jobs are completed. This automated workflow is accessible from desktop computer Web browsers as well as the iPhone, enabling busy professionals to review and approve content on the go. After viewing a video, reviewer feedback and comments are immediately sent back to the Squeeze user, thereby streamlining the workflow of today?s video professionals.
Direct Publishing and Syndication. In addition to seamless publishing to the Sorenson 360 Video Delivery Network, Sorenson Squeeze 6 users can upload high-quality encoded files directly to popular social media sites, such as YouTube and Twitter, as well as to content delivery networks, including Akamai and Limelight.
Enhanced User Interface. The Sorenson Squeeze 6 interface has been re-designed to simplify the video compression workflow and provide easy access to the software?s powerful features, including encoding presets; high-quality audio and video filters; DVD burning tools; and the new review, approval and notification functions.
Complimentary Sorenson 360 Review & Approval Account. Every purchase of Squeeze 6 includes a complimentary one-year Review & Approval account to the Sorenson 360 Video Delivery Network, making Squeeze the first end-to-end encoding and publishing solution.

Higher Quality, Faster Encoding, Expanded Compatibility
Sorenson Squeeze 6 surpasses previous versions of the software in both speed and quality by incorporating and optimizing the latest On2 VP6 and MainConcept H.264 codecs. Internal benchmark tests have shown Sorenson Squeeze 6 is up to 500 percent faster than Sorenson Squeeze 5 when encoding in the H.264 and VP6 formats, both of which are standard formats included with every copy of Squeeze 6. New video filters, including blur, RGB, tint, white balance and timecode, have also been added to improve the quality of any encoded video. New input and output formats have also been added to Sorenson Squeeze 6, including:

New Input Formats: AVC-Intra and WMV with VC-1 for use in Blu-ray and Microsoft Silverlight
New Output Formats: AVI, AIFF, DV Stream, Image Sequence, Wave, and WMV with VC-1

To coincide with the release of Squeeze 6, Sorenson Media has also launched an innovative new Preset Exchange, an online repository of professional "video encoding recipes" or presets. The presets in the Exchange have been created by top industry compression experts, thereby providing Squeeze 6 users with direct access to the same encoding tools used by seasoned encoding professionals to get the best quality out of their encoding processes. Because the Preset Exchange is seamlessly integrated with Squeeze 6, users can instantly import new presets into Squeeze by clicking "Install" on the Preset Exchange Web site. Along with previous integration with Avid?s suite of editing applications, Sorenson Squeeze 6 also now works seamlessly with Apple?s Final Cut Pro and iMovie. This process significantly improves workflow times by eliminating the need for cumbersome exporting and importing between applications and enables users to tap into the powerful Squeeze feature set directly from their favorite editing software.
Pricing and Availability
Sorenson Squeeze 6 and Sorenson Squeeze 6 for Flash are available for electronic download or for shipping in CD form. Sorenson Squeeze 6 is $799 and Sorenson Squeeze 6 for Flash is $499. Upgrades from previous versions of Sorenson Squeeze begin at $199. The complimentary one-year Sorenson 360 Review & Approval account includes 5 gigabytes (GB) of storage, 100 streams per month and a maximum video length of 30 minutes.

Telestream

Telestream, a leading provider of digital video workflow solutions, has announced the first solution which offers YouTube fingerprinting for both live and file-based workflows. Digital fingerprinting is a process that uniquely identifies video, making it easier for media companies to discover and track their video content which is uploaded to YouTube. Media companies are increasingly opting to partner with YouTube by claiming videos as their own, which results in the ability to share revenues with YouTube for advertising placed around their videos.
"Telestream customers include the largest content owners in the world, many of whom have an interest in controlling and monetizing their content on YouTube, even if they didn?t upload it," said Barbara DeHart, VP of Marketing at Telestream. "This new integration allows our customers to achieve that goal with significantly more of their content, without adding any steps or costs to their workflow."
Telestream products are used to cost-effectively ingest and convert live event and on-demand programming for multi-platform distribution to broadcast, cable, web and mobile viewers. The company?s installed base of thousands of major media companies can now use FlipFactory and Pipeline to easily create YouTube fingerprinting to ensure content identification and tracking.
"It is vital that content owners be able to quickly and easily identify and manage their video on YouTube," said George Salem, Product Manager at Google. "Telestream is a natural partner because they offer a comprehensive live and file-based solution, and the majority of major media companies are already using their products."
Telestream?s industry-leading FlipFactory is a full workflow automation system that offers the industry?s broadest video file-format support for transcoding, and the industry?s deepest integration with third-party systems for file discovery and delivery. The new solution allows FlipFactory to create a digital reference file, otherwise known as a fingerprint, and automatically upload the reference file to YouTube. This allows content owners to automatically track and protect their content, without incurring any extra steps, costs or processes. This new capability can be added to any existing FlipFactory workflow, providing the broadest file-based fingerprinting support in the industry.
Telestream?s Pipeline network video capture system extends the capability of FlipFactory to provide real-time fingerprinting for live production environments, including sports, awards and press events. One or more channels of Pipeline can be used to capture video from cameras or live broadcast feeds and immediately ingest it into FlipFactory for fingerprinting, creation of the digital reference file and uploading to YouTube ? all within a few minutes of the live event. This allows media companies to either block or monetize videos of their live events on YouTube.
Pipeline live video capture and FlipFactory fingerprinting will be demonstrated by YouTube to interested partners. YouTube fingerprinting is a new feature in FlipFactory 7.0 which will be available this month. More information about Pipeline and FlipFactory is available at www.telestream.net.

Matrox® Video Products Group today announced that Windows drivers for Matrox CompressHD1 and Matrox MXO2 Mini2 with the MAX option are now available as a free download from the Matrox website for registered owners. Matrox MAX technology uses a dedicated hardware processor to accelerate the creation of HD H.264 files for Blu-ray, Flash, YouTube, and the web. By using specialized hardware acceleration, jobs are finished with amazing speed and system resources are liberated for other tasks. Ease of use is ensured through direct integration with Adobe Media Encoder and Adobe Premiere Pro on the PC.
"Users of Matrox MAX technology for Windows get the HD encoding speed and quality of a high-end workstation from a laptop or older PC when delivering to Blu-ray, Flash, and YouTube," said Alberto Cieri, Matrox senior sales and marketing director. "If they are lucky enough to own that high-end system, the Matrox MAX hardware can be dedicated to cranking out HD H.264 deliverables, letting them use more system resources to continue editing."
"Creative professionals who use PC laptops for H.264 encoding can expect a huge performance boost with Matrox MAX technology," said Chris Yigit, Matrox technical marketing manager.
Tech Werks releases new interface to Twitter. This new interface can automatically or manually post videos directly to your Twitter account as a Tweet.
Tech Werks understands the value of social networking on the Internet and this new interface allows Tech Werks clients to take advantage of this new technology. "Tech Werks is fully committed to "making technology work for you" and we believe adding this Twitter interface will help our clients to share their videos much easier than ever before" said, Bill Baker, President of Tech Werks. "We have given our clients two different ways to post a "Tweet" on Twitter. The first works with our Auto Publish feature. When a new video is Auto Published, the name and link of the new video is sent to your Twitter account. The second, you can manually select any of your videos and send the name and video link to your Twitter account."
"In May 2009, the Wall Street Journal reported that Twitter had over 13 million users. We want our clients to be able to take advantage of this new social network on the Internet and to be able to record a video, have it Auto Published to their web site, AND published on Twitter, giving our clients a very powerful tool," said John Bonicoro, Director of sales. "The process is easy; a client must have a Twitter account, enter their Twitter user name and password in their "SMART" online management account and select auto publish to Twitter. Our technology does the rest".

Adobe

At the 2009 IBC tradeshow, Adobe Systems Incorporated (Nasdaq:ADBE) announced that the public preview of Adobe® Story software, a new online and offline collaborative script development tool, is now available on Adobe Labs at http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/story. Adobe Story begins the planning and preproduction phase of video workflows and will be integrated with other Adobe products, including future versions of the Adobe Creative Suite® product family. Developed to create more efficient video production workflows while reducing production costs, Adobe Story automatically turns content in scripts into relevant metadata that can be used throughout the Adobe digital video workflow. Adobe will demonstrate Story during the IBC 2009 Exhibition at its stand (Hall 7, Stand H.23) in the RAI Convention Center, Sept. 11-15.
"Today, broadcast and media companies are looking for next-generation video workflows that transform how content is created and consumed," said Jim Guerard, vice president and general manager of Dynamic Media at Adobe. "By capturing valuable script information in the preproduction phase, Adobe Story provides these companies with a groundbreaking new tool that can radically streamline production workflows, reduce overall costs and make entertainment more interactive and engaging."
From Script to Screen
Adobe Story offers many ways to simplify the production process, reduce costs and bring new efficiencies to camera operators, editors, directors and others involved in the project development. Once information, such as script location and character biographies, are captured or entered into Adobe Story the valuable metadata will automatically flow into other products in the Creative Suite Production Premium toolkit, improving the efficiency for capturing clips and editing footage. When the video production is ready for online distribution, the metadata can also help viewers discover and search through content online to find their favorite characters, episodes or scenes, making the entire viewing experience more interactive and engaging.
Collaborative Scriptwriting
Scriptwriting typically goes through several phases: initial outline, several drafts, final draft, shooting script and creation of a production shot list that accompanies the final script. Adobe Story is designed to help simplify and accelerate this process for virtually any creative endeavor.
With Adobe Story, project participants have a visually rich environment where they can share their ideas at any time. Users can create a script from scratch using Adobe Story, leveraging its industry-standard formatting. They also can import scripts into Adobe Story from a variety of applications, including Microsoft Word, Final Draft or export into Adobe PDF, text, XML, Movie Magic and CSV. Project participants can use Adobe Story to work online and offline and automatically synchronize input and comments once they connect to the Internet. During this phase, the software captures metadata such as scene locations and other pertinent information automatically, creating a more efficient end-to-end workflow.
Pricing and availability
The preview version of Adobe Story is currently available at no charge on Adobe Labs at http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/story.

Avid

Avid® (NASDAQ: AVID) today introduced new versions of its Media Composer® (4.0), Symphony™ (4.0), NewsCutter® (8.0) professional editing software and Interplay® (2.0) production asset management system. Reinforcing Avid?s commitment to providing open and flexible solutions, these new offerings enable broadcast and post production professionals to lower production costs and enhance their productivity by:

Eliminating timely transcode processes with the capability to mix and match different frame rates and resolutions in an open timeline within the same project.
Expanding native support for file-based media with the addition of industry-leading formats such as Panasonic AVC-I and Ikegami GFCAM. GFCAM support is a result of Avid Media Access (AMA).
Empowering production teams to become more efficient by extending workgroup capabilities to the Wide Area Network (WAN) - allowing journalists, producers and assistants to work with media at any time, from any location.

What Customers are Saying
Emmy® and A.C.E. Eddie winning editor Steve Cohen has beta tested Media Composer 4.0 and said, "My first experience with AMA was eye-opening, largely because it's so trivially simple: no logging, no digitizing, no importing is required. Clips appear in a bin magically, with all the metadata available and ready for cutting. The fact that it's possible on a laptop with no extra hardware is also very impressive. And Avid's Mix and Match is one of those features that's so well designed that it's completely transparent. You simply edit as you would with any other material and the Media Composer does the right thing automatically, adjusting the speed as needed, without rendering."
Industry Standard Editing Tools - Fast, Reliable, More Native Formats
Media Composer (named the preferred tool for acclaimed editors by the American Cinema Editors (A.C.E.)), Symphony and NewsCutter software now offer customers a wide array of new features designed to streamline the production process including:

Improved Stereoscopic 3D editing: Enables customers to view 3D material side by side in addition to over/under - ensuring greater accuracy of editing decisions and a wider choice of cost-effective monitors for stereoscopic viewing.
Monitoring HD and SD cross-and-down converted formats from 1080p24 masters: Enables customers using Mojo DX or Nitris® DX hardware to view HD material on an SD monitor, eliminating the need to incur additional hardware costs.
Panasonic AVC-I encoding support: Allows customers to deliver final masters in Panasonic?s AVC-I format while working natively in the Avid editing system from acquisition to final delivery.
Mac support for Pro Tools® Video Satellite: Offers customers the ability to work with Mac or PC when using Media Composer as a video satellite with Pro Tools systems to deliver frame-accurate, synchronized and full resolution monitoring of video.
Mix and Match capabilities: Provides customers with the flexibility to use media sources of different frame rates and resolutions (SD and HD) in the same timeline - eliminating external transcoding and time-consuming frame-rate conversions.
Avid Media Access (AMA) enhancements: Delivers native support for the popular Ikegami GFCAM 100 mb/s format. Customers can now directly access GFCAM media, including full metadata, and begin their work immediately without transcoding, copying or re-wrapping the material.
New Production Suite updates: Include new versions of Boris Continuum Complete, Sorenson Squeeze and SmartSound SonicFire Pro to provide customers with more creative possibilities and media delivery options.

Production Asset Management ? Extending Flexible Anytime, Anywhere Collaboration
With more than 600 Interplay sites deployed worldwide, Avid has enhanced its industry-leading production asset management solution by delivering the most significant update of the product to date: Interplay 2.0. The new version empowers broadcasters and post facilities to extend collaborative productions beyond the four walls of a facility - enabling customers to consolidate production operations as well as manage and contribute to projects when working remotely. Lower bandwidth streaming proxies enable Interplay workgroup members to work with media at anytime from anywhere, using a qualified Mac or PC with a 1Mb/s Internet connection.
Highlights of Interplay 2.0 include:

WAN Workflow with Interplay Access: Enables journalists, producers and editors to remotely search and work with media assets across multiple workgroups ? no longer requiring them to return to the edit suite/news station to assemble stories. A new streamlined interface allows users to browse, log and shot list media in three unique viewing modes, via a single screen, and easily toggle between views -ultimately offering more time savings and reduced production costs. Additionally, station groups will now be able to consolidate functions by increasing the range of material available for users to share across geographically-dispersed newsrooms.
Final Cut Pro (FCP) workflow support: Offers check-in and check-out of FCP media with project links as well as media and metadata conversion of FCP-to-Avid and Avid-to-FCP projects - providing customers with more platform flexibility.Interplay Delivery: Simplifies a previously time-intensive process of media transfer by offering a one-step transfer of materials such as subclips and shot lists.
Interplay Transcode with new mixdown capability: Enables users to mixdown full audio and video sequences while transcoding to a specified output format, simplifying downstream processes such as archiving or publishing to formats such as mobile, the Web or digital signage.

Pricing and Availability
Media Composer, Symphony and NewsCutter systems will be available on September 30. Interplay 2.0 will be available on September 16. Media Composer 4.0 is just $295 USMSRP for educational institutions and students. Beginning September 30, 2009, students with academic versions of Media Composer software (versions 3.5 through 4.0 purchased on or after March 1, 2009) will qualify for complementary upgrades for four years from the date of software activation.
Blackmagic Design

Blackmagic Design today announced DeckLink Studio, a new model capture card designed as a replacement for standard definition cards, with increased analog connectivity for older analog equipment as well as SDI/HD-SDI and HDMI connections for the latest cutting edge digital equipment. DeckLink Studio 2 replaces current model DeckLink Studio and adds 10 bit HDMI capture and playback for the same low price of $695.
DeckLink Studio features independent connections for SDI, HDMI, analog component, S-Video and composite video, so all types of external video equipment can remain connected without re-cabling. DeckLink Studio also includes SDI and HDMI connections that switch between SD and HD, as well as an SD only output that always outputs via a built in hardware down converter even when running in HD. The SD down converted output is great when you need to monitor your work in both SD and HD at the same time. No other product has a built in high quality hardware down converter at this low price point.
The built in 10 bit hardware down converter is selectable between letterbox, anamorphic 16:9 and center cut 4:3 modes, and operates when running in all HD video formats as well as in capture and playback modes. Embedded SDI audio is supported via the hardware down converter and output on the SDI output. When running HD video formats, both S-Video and composite video are output from the down converter so video is always present, independent of what video standard is used.
Because DeckLink Studio is designed for creative professionals who have many generations of broadcast video equipment, it includes greater audio connectivity for when customers need to use older broadcast decks such as Betacam SP. DeckLink Studio 2 includes 4 channels of balanced analog audio, as well as 2 channels of AES/EBU digital audio. For extra digital audio, the channel 3 and 4 analog audio outputs can be switched to AES/EBU for channel 3 & 4 and 5 & 6 output. That provides 6 channels of digital audio output in total, and is perfect for 5.1 surround sound monitoring or multi language work.
DeckLink Studio features a 1 lane PCI Express connection that works in lower cost computers, while still retaining high data speeds, perfect for 10 bit HD video and real time effects.
While DeckLink Studio has powerful HD features, its low cost and compatibility with affordable entry level computers makes it great for SD work, and HD is included free and ready for use at any time. This means DeckLink Studio is perfect for post production and broadcast users even with the tightest budgets. No other product provides as much power for the price as DeckLink Studio 2.
When doing broadcast work, DeckLink Studio 2 has a built in SD keyer that allows RGBA graphics to be keyed over the SDI input in standard definition. If external keying is required, DeckLink Studio can also output key on the SD-SDI output and fill video on the main HD/SD-SDI output. DeckLink Studio also features black burst and tri-sync input and a RS-422 deck control connection.
DeckLink Studio 2 Key Features

10 bit SDI capture and playback with full HD-SDI and SD-SDI compatibility.
10 bit HDMI capture and playback with HDMI audio
10 bit analog component capture and playback.
S-Video capture and playback.
Composite NTSC/PAL capture and playback.
Dedicated SD-SDI output for SD, down converted HD as SD out, or SD key channel out.
SDI and analog component switches between SD and HD.
Hardware down converter selectable for Letterbox, Anamorphic 16:9 or center-cut SD modes.
Built in internal SD keying, or select to output both fill and key via SD/HD-SDI and SD-SDI outputs.
8 channels of SDI audio capture and playback in HD and SD.
2 channels of AES/EBU audio capture and playback with sample rate converter on input.
4 channels of XLR professional analog audio capture and playback.
Genlock/Tri-Sync reference input for locking card to large systems.
RS-422 remote control for broadcast decks.
PCI Express plug in card at 2.5 Gb/s speeds for maximum real time effects.
Real time effects in Apple Final Cut Pro™ and Adobe Premiere™ Pro.

Availability and Price
DeckLink Studio 2 is available now for US$695 or ?545 from Blackmagic Design resellers worldwide including Safe Harbor Computers.

Sonic Solutions® (NASDAQ: SNIC), has released the Sonic BD PowerStation™, a new cost-effective Blu-ray Disc (BD) production suite for professional videographers that's built on Sonic's Hollywood-standard CineVision® HD video encoding and Scenarist® authoring products, which have been used to create millions of DVD and BD titles worldwide.
Configured and priced to meet the needs of professional videographers, independent film and corporate video producers, Sonic BD PowerStation includes a special version of CineVision featuring multi-codec and segment controls, as well as DVDit!® Pro HD for authoring BD and DVD titles and Scenarist QC™ Studio, a specialized BD emulation system that provides a detailed title proofing step during the authoring process. The result is the world's first truly focused BD authoring solution for desktop video professionals that delivers the ease of use, quality, speed and the dependability required for meeting tough production schedules.
Priced at $2,499.00, the Sonic BD PowerStation breaks the financial barrier-to-entry and immediately expands the availability of high-quality HD title creation solutions to a broader range of post-production facilities and specialized content owners looking to enter the Blu-ray Disc market. In concert with the recent reduction in AACS-LA licensing costs, Sonic's introduction of the BD PowerStation is perfectly timed to energize a hungry high-definition content creation industry and initiate a new wave of BD title production beyond the traditional Hollywood community.
"Sonic's BD PowerStation is the perfect combination of technology, product and price positioning that independent producers and small production houses have been waiting for to start offering BD production services. Until now, producing reliable replication-ready BD masters has been financially out-of-reach of most businesses" said Gary Bettan, VP of Business Development at Broadfield Distributing a leading distributor of desktop production solutions. "Sonic is the standard in Hollywood and since BD PowerStation is based on that same proven technology we feel confident that this is going to be a very important product for our market".
The Sonic BD PowerStation leverages the same exclusive video encoding and title multiplexing engines used in Sonic's industry-leading products for high-end facilities, which are responsible for the vast majority of commercially released BD titles. Capabilities include: support for MPEG-2 HD, VC-1 encoding with segment re-encoding that provides significant video encoding image quality controls; simple-to-learn and use authoring application that offers HD motion menus and interactive navigation programming without the need to understand the BD specification; and detailed title proofing based on Sonic's BD and DVD navigation engine that is used by leading CE vendors worldwide for set-top and in-car playback devices.
"BD PowerStation is another example of Sonic's unprecedented tradition of constant development and investment in the growth of the professional content production and delivery industry. We've combined our expertise in video encoding, authoring and playback with our clear understanding of 'what's important' to content owners, videographers and producers and delivered an amazing new suite to jump-start their BD title production," said Rolf Hartley, senior vice president and general manager, Sonic's Premium Content Applications Group. "With tried-and-true technology and break-through-pricing, BD PowerStation makes it possible for post-production facilities, independent and specialized film creators, event and corporate videographers to increase their services and use BD to showcase HD content."
The Sonic BD PowerStation is available now from Sonic's professional products reseller network including Safe Harbor.
