SFU Highland Summer 7’s Rugby Tournament

It’s been 27 years since we began our wee little tournament on the hill and we would like you to join us to usher in the next 27 years. As always the Highland Summer 7's Tournament will provide highly competitive rugby and an excellent social venue.

This year the tournament will be held on July 4, 2009.

In anticipation of the always-hot sun, we will again be having a BBQ and cold beverage garden. As usual, great SFU Rugby Tees will be available!

Based on the poll we conducted last month there will be three divisions:

Men's Premier Division	$250 per team
Women’s Division	$200 per team
Men's Social Division	$200 per team

As in past years, we expect each of the divisions to fill up quickly, therefore, in order to avoid disappointment, please register your team as soon as possible. PREMIER TEAMS MUST SUBMIT A ROSTER OF PLAYERS PLAYING IN THE TOURNAMENT.

The registration deadline is June 20th 2009.

Description

Tickets $60.00 which includes a meal and drink, plus your $50.00 buy in for the tournament (MUST BE 19 TO ENTER). Tickets will be available in early January at practice.

Tournament Structure

Texas Holdem - $50.00 buy in to start (your ticket).

If you get knocked out in the first hour you can buy back in for $50.00 but only one time. Those that have chips at the end of the first hour can buy another $50.00 top up. The blinds will go up every 20 minutes. Based on 50 person tournament the prize pool would work out to:

First place $1000
Second place $500
Third place $200

HOME OPENER WEEKEND Sat, Sept 22

Hi all,

This is our official home opener this weekend. We have 4 games scheduled:

U-19 at 10:00 am (against Ridge-Meadows )
Women First Division at 11:30 am (against Seattle)
Mens Second Division at 1 pm (against Kelowna)
Mens 1st Division at 2:30 pm (against Kelowna)

We will be having a social at the Point Pub in Port Moody following the games ($5 burger/beer deal). All are welcome and encouraged to attend this Saturday's big day of rugby.

We are pleased to extend this greeting to our alumni. Come check out our new clubhouse and if you have old pictures or plaques bring them to put into our trophy cases.

Medical Forms Needed

Please don't forget to print out the attached medical form, complete it and bring it to practice Thursday, September 13.
Megan will be collecting them at the end of practice to give to the Women's trainers.
Remember, you need these filled out no later than Saturday, September 22 or Tanya won't let you play!
If you don't have a printer, Rae will be bringing out some extra forms for you to fill out.

SFU Awarded BC Gaming Commission Grant

We have some great news for our upcoming season.
The BC Gaming Commission has awarded the club a $7,200 grant.
These monies will be allocated towards operational costs (such as field rentals, medical supplies, training staff, coaches, etc...).

Head Coach Quentin Fyffe and his staff have named a squad of 30 players who will travel to Blaine, Minnesota to compete in the CanAm tournament later this month. The squad will play two matches against their American counterparts on August 27th and 29th.

Hi all,

I was at the Bayside tourney this last week and talked to the guy who had a serious eye injury at our tourney. Looks like he will make a full recovery. On that note in my 25 years of the tourney I have never seen as many serious or, for that matter, the amount of injuries that we had that day. A BIG KUDO'S GOES TO OUR TANYA!! You did an excellent job on the first aid front. The eye injury fella said the ER Dr.'s were quite impressed. Once again my opinion of the toughest positions in rugby to fill are props, trainers, and coaches comes to fruition. All other positions in rugby are expendable.

Way to go Tanya!!!!

BC comes into the Final verses Ontario with wins over Alberta 25-5, Manitoba 74-5, and Saskatewan, 70-3

In celebration of our 25th anniversary this year promises to be our grandest tournament yet. As well, teams will have the pleasure of playing on the first official IRB approved all weather turf field (please bring your multis and your cleats).

In anticipation of the always-hot sun, we will again be having a BBQ and cold beverage garden. As usual, great SFU Rugby Tees will be available! Based on the poll we conducted last month there will be three divisions:

Trophies will be awarded to the top finishers in all divisions. The teams will be divided into pools, with the top two teams from each pool advancing to play off in a
single knock-out elimination round. Each team is guaranteed a minimum of three games.

Conratulations are in order for G on her placement in the Canada 7's squad as they compete this weekend in San Diego.

On Monday February 5th, the NSWT 7s departed for San Diego, California for a 4-day training camp in preparation for the USA 7s tournament to be held February 9-10. Upon arrival the Canadians took to the pitch for a 90-minute practice at Robb Field in beautiful sunny 85oF weather. Robb Field will be the location of the tournament pool play competition and semi-final matches on Friday, while the finals will be played at Petco Park on Saturday.

KIDS XMAS PARTY

WHEN: Sunday, December 11^th 1:00 – 5:00 pm

WHAT: games (musical chairs, hit the piñata, etc.), magician, fishing pond for prizes, potluck lunch and a visit from Santa.

WHAT PARENTS NEED TO DO:

· For each child you bring, also provide a small gift (for that child) to be placed under the tree and opened with Santa later

· Please bring a food dish as this is a potluck event. Scribes RFC will provide juice. Pop and adult refreshments will be for sale.

· If you are attending please be on time, as this year we will have an entertainer who will be dropping by at 2:00 pm.

· As in past years, we are also asking everyone to bring a non-perishable food item to be donated to the Vancouver food bank.

TO BE DONE AT THE CLUBHOUSE:

· General clean up of club, kitchen and bathroom.

· Purchase and decorate Christmas tree, as well as the clubhouse. There should be a stand, lights and various donated items from past years. From past experience it is easier to bring the tree in early (48 hrs +) so it can dry and drop, then get some help decorating on the Wednesday before the event.

· Usual stocked bar, some large cartons of juice (smaller cups for kids), and a piñata stuffed with candy.
